Ask the Community
Q:
Are the Nigri sushi served in the chef's choice sushi course and shiro's omakase different or basically the same?
A:
My understanding is that the omakase sushi is different at the sushi bar versus at the tables in the dining room, but I don't know the extent of difference. You might want to call the restaurant to check.

Delayed review. Very delayed review.
BUT SO GOOD.
I mean ...Chicago is atrocious but I'm pretty sure even against normal people standards, this is delicious sushi.
When I visited Seattle from Chicago in December, friend took me here for the omakase. He heard it was much better to sit at the sushi bar though it's possible to have omakase seated at tables in the restaurant, so we came and took our chances. Fortunately for us, the wait for the bar was only 10 min (and they don't take reservations for it) and they even gave us hot tea on a cold rainy day while we sat and waited.
Omakase at the bar is indeed a much better experience. Our sushi chef was right in front of us, and his English was heavy accented but he was friendly and quick. He was able to keep an eye on us and work on the next round in a timely manner. If you sat at a table I imagine the turnaround time would be much longer.
For the omakase, they just give you food until you're full. My friend tapped out way early, but I went all the way to the end! I just wanted to keep trying everything, so when the chef was like, "NOW are you full?" I asked him what else he had, and he was surprised. Then relieved. Because I said I'm full if he's done. He even threw in a giant tuna handroll LOL.
Overall a delicious experience. Best uni I've ever had, Best geoduck and raw scallops I've ever had. Raw sweet shrimp, rivaling my experience at Next and Alinea.
Would most definitely come here again. Less than Chicago prices for way better sushi. Mmm. People on coasts, you have no idea how spoiled you are :(Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jacob D.Bagley Downs, Vancouver, WA09Apr 2, 2024
I have been to Japan and can CONFIDENTLY say this is the CLOSEST to authentic Japanese sushi from Japan as it gets.
When I tried the omakase it was like I was back in Japan.
Service was PHENOMINAL. Showcasing real Japanese customs as well as making a birthday feel special.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 17282514Mar 18, 20241 check-in
$85 for 19 pieces of omakase sushi...the price doesn't get better than this! You also have the choice of paying an extra $15 per person for two additional premium options. We were there already so why not?
This isn't a fancy omakase restaurant where there's only two seatings of 8 people per night. The restaurant is opened with plenty of tables and you can walk in without reservations. Note: if you want to sit at the bar, reservations must be booked ahead of time and I believe it is $140 per person.
We should of opted out of the premium dishes because 19 pieces of nigiri is actually A LOT. We were overly stuffed at the end of the meal. My favorite pieces were the uni (sea urchin), hotate (scallop) and the sweet shrimp. Everything tasted fresh and service was wonderful! The servers explained to us which pieces of fish are on the plate and the best way to eat it.
Come to Shiro's if you want to try out an affordable Omakase experience!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - 28216563Apr 17, 2024
Shiros always has good cozy vibes + high quality food + great service but it blew my mind with its restaurant week menu this time around. I was able to make a reservation the day of on a weekday and we got a 5 course nigiri sushi totaling 19 pieces per person for 65 dollars. We added chawanmushi and hojicha tiramisu as a add on and they were an absolute delight. We ordered a regular chawanmushi but it accidentally came as the upgraded version which we got for the price of a regular one! Im glad they messed it up because the uni & ikura were extremely fresh and i wouldnt have gotten to taste it in chawanmushi otherwise. The presentation, quality, service were consistent as my previous visits and i couldn't be happier. They have a spacious waiting area which is a huge plus. I can't wait to come back soon!

Service was 5/5. Our server was professional and friendly. She explained each of the dishes that arrived and a little backstory on each part of the fish.
Restaurant was very busy at 5:30pm. I would recommend getting reservations. Inside the restaurant was very clean like the tables utensils and bathroom.
Food I ordered the omakase. 19 pieces for $85 is extremely worth it for this type of quality. Omakase was excellent and paired well with the two shot sake tasting. The fish on each piece was fresh and well prepared. Appetizer was the seasonal Hotaruika Sumiso. Small baby squid with miso, would not order again but was worth a try.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 5, 2024
I'm from Dallas and I've had a lot of omakase and sushi so I'm very picky about them now. This omakase was good but very very standard and basic. We were celebrating our anniversary on this trip so I wish it was a little more special. There was really nothing unique about the experience. The flavors on each nigiri were barely there but the cuts of fish were fresh.
The staff was wonderful! Our main server was very kind and always checked up on us. He and the others explained what we were eating for each course. I will say their hot black cod fish dish was very delicious and I'd eat that again. The hojicha tiramisu was also very yummy. It wasn't overly sweet. Looking online and such, it gave the ambiance of something for special and intimate but I think this place is pretty casual. I think my expectations were places wrong, hence my overall review :(Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jan 6, 2024
This was my first Omakase experience and though there were no more chef omakase seats left, we decided to still take the table reservations since we were only in Seattle for a few days.
The experience and food left me speechless! Every fish tasted of quality and you could taste the level of care the chefs put into the bites. The desserts were also out of this world. The matcha cheesecake and the ice cream were soooo delicious.
I still think about this meal time to time. I would definitely come again if I ever am in Seattle!Helpful 5Thanks 1Love this 5Oh no 0 - Dec 11, 2023Updated review
Always a good time with Shiro's!
We had Chef Masaki and Chef Chris serving us at the sushi bar. Janeen was an attentive server and made sure we were well taken care of. Kudos to the staff like usual!
Omakase at the bar is now $140 per person. $25 corkage fee for sake not on their menu. $8 Asahi drafts.
Like usual, great sushi and great course. I do appreciate Chef Masaki ensuring quality control for the food he serves. He pulled a box of uni out and it was a bit funky. He let me try it and it definitely tasted more on the bitter side. He pulled out a different box and ensured a better quality serving.
Street parking only. During peak evenings, be sure to give yourself an extra 10-15 minutes to find parking and walk over.
Until next time!Helpful 22Thanks 1Love this 20Oh no 0Jun 19, 2023Previous reviewI LOVE SHIRO'S.
Visiting Seattle again, so you already know I had to stop by and see the folks at Shiro's!
I had the omakase with my friend at $140/per person. Each piece was delicious as usual! We opted to add another 2-3 more pieces. I also added a tempura assortment while we ate our early on apps in the course.
Alcohol wise:
We drank a few $8 sapporos. I also checked with staff beforehand. You can bring your own sake (as long as they don't have it on their menu), but you must pay a $25 corkage fee per bottle. Still, saved a little bit of money by going this route.
Always love the friendly staff here. Shoutout to Chef Masaki for serving us once again! Thank you Yuriko for the communication and reservation set-up!
Until next time!Feb 8, 2023Previous reviewEvery time I go to Seattle, it is a must stop for Shiro's! I make sure I book my reservation for the bar ASAP! (They open up reservations about a month before)
Post-COVID, they serve two dining experiences. One at the bar, the other at the dining area. As of Nov'22, experience at the bar is now $125 and dining is $85 per person. The two menus are completely different. The pieces at the bar at bigger and higher quality. However, it definitely is a higher price tag, so if you are looking for a cheaper option, definitely do their dining area (or even take out!) My preference is 100% to go to the sushi bar. You get to chat with the chefs, eat fresh pieces one by one made right in front of you, and overall have a great time.
Shoutout to the staff as always...thank you Chef Masaki for the great experience...and thank you Yuriko for helping with reservations!
Street parking only. Cashless payments only.
Go follow the IG @shoyuthebest! I've highlighted Shiro's on there :DAug 14, 2022Previous reviewFinally got to visit Shiro's at the bar during COVID...and it was so good and nostalgic!!!
I made reservations a month in advance...and someone even took the time I wanted (a month early!) so be sure to book in advance if you know you will be visiting Shiro's! I highly recommend booking for the bar. If you have more than the allotted (4 people at that time), you can give them a call to see if they can accommodate a slightly larger party. I had 5 in our party, so they were able to accommodate us :) ALSO, the menu is different than the actual dining area...and I must say, the quality of fish and taste is different. I believe the bar was $120/pp, and Dining is ~$75-80? Definitely worth the bump to experience the sushi bar!
We had head chef Masaki serving us. I thoroughly enjoyed his professionalism and humor during our meal. It really makes a difference to eat the fish right when the chef places it on the plate. I also recommend asking for wet wipes for your fingers, so you just use your fingers to eat...really makes the experience :)
We ordered their $120 omakase bar set. This included a firefly squid with mustard miso, white asparagus (starter), smoked cherry trout, smoked bonito (intermezzo), young sweetfish tempura (seasonal fish from kitchen), and then with 15 pieces of Chef's choice nigiri sushi...all honestly better than the next..so good!
We also ordered a suigei "drunked whale" sake which wasn't bad, and a few rounds of asahi. I ended up buying a bottle of sake for the staff after their work day, since I could see how much effort they put in, in preparing this amazing experience!
I'll provide the fish information in the pictures, because honestly, each piece of fish was delicious!
Street parking only. You may need to park a few blocks away if it is during peak hours. Be sure to make your reservations EARLY!
Huge shoutout to Chef Masaki and staff (Taro, Shinnosuke, Jose), Albert, and Yuriko!
Can't wait to be back at my favorite sushi restaurant! Shiro's is honestly the best value omakase I've ever been to. Always try to see if you can get sat at the bar!
Hope to be back at Shiro's in a few months when I visit Seattle :)
Follow the adventure @shoyuthebest on IG!Mar 2, 2022Previous reviewEvery time I'm in Seattle, Shiro's is a must! Everybody who asks me for recs, I always tell them to try Shiro's. Reservations are easy to make!
This time around, we were given appetizer menus. We tried a carpaccio dish which had really unique flavors, salmon collar, and tempura. I also recommend the apps when you go so you have a mix of delicious raw fish as well as cooked items.
This time around, I enjoyed the Burito (Wild Yellowtail) the most! But like usual, they all tasted great.
I'm excited to go back to Shiro's again soon :)Sep 22, 2021Previous reviewIt's been almost 2 years since I was able to sit down and eat at the sushi bar at Shiro's. I came around last year, but only had their takeout (which is delicious btw!)
Came in with a reservation for a party of 4 for dinner. (Reserve through Resy, I saw that it has more times than Google). We were seated in their sectioned room which had 5-6 tables.
They only served the 19 pc omakase, but you can ask for the a la carte menu after to add on different fish they might have!
The omakase meal was great. My favorites included: albacore tuna, salmon, katsuo (bonito), tuna 4 ways, ikura, and unagi. From the a la carte, I liked the ora king salmon they had. I also grabbed another ikura :) Staff had recommended another eel, but I thought it was only ok.
Overall, meal was great. It was definitely a bit different than our previous times sitting at the bar and getting handed each piece by the chef, but COVID, so makes sense. I think next time I'm in town, will wait for the opportunity to eat at the bar again :)
Appreciate the entire staff at Shiro's! Whoever is running their instagram page, thank you! They were helpful in answering my questions during COVID, since I was just waiting to get back :)
Street parking only.Aug 22, 2019Previous reviewAug 2019 update:
-Went to Shiro's again for another round of omakase
-Waited in line to sit at the bar and had Chef Aaron again serve a delicious meal
-Attentive staff this time around
-Excited to come back in October :)Jul 23, 2019Previous reviewTLDR: Best omakase in Seattle. Best bang for your buck!
My order: Omakase, I told Chef my preferences toward fatty fish and my dislikes toward some others (crab, shrimp, scallop, uni)
Pros:
-Fresh fish
-Attentive chefs if you sit at the bar
-Ask for sea perch, Chef Aaron blew my mind
-You can get away about $125-$150/ head, with alcohol, eating 20+ pieces
Cons:
-Uni doesn't seem that fresh so I kind of avoided, also one of the more pricey pieces
-Waiters don't do too much, so I would suggest you sit at the bar
Tips:
-They do not take reservations for the bar, show up about 30 min before they open and you are likely guaranteed a spot at the bar
-Tell the chef what you want from the start, you'll have a better experience
-Try to get a seat with Chef Aaron
-I've done omakase here 3-4 times, and it has been great every single time...I plan to stop by 3 more times before 2020 :)
See you soon Shiro's and Chef Aaron! - 1081177Mar 21, 2024
Came here for omakase for the first time in Seattle! The omakase set we got was $140/person with 19 courses. I was full but wasn't stuffed (definitely could have had a couple more pieces if included). Chefs were kind and attentive which made the experience so much more fun. A smaller restaurant which can get a bit loud during peak times but very intimate setting. The menu changes daily, but the highlights of my meal were the scallop and anything bluefin tuna. Want to come back to try the regular menu someday.
