I must start this review by saying that pet photography was a foreign concept that never EVER crossed my mind. I hate the cheesy backdrops and the stupid costumes/set accents that I see in pet photos. But one day while browsing YELP, I came across Shine Pet Photos. Probably because I was having a bad day, I decided to look into it because furry animals always cheer me up. The photos posted were amazing and made me crave for more. Then I clicked on the business website URL hoping that the website will have more photos of cute furry dogs but I got more than I bargained for. I got the link to Grace Chon's blog.
Before I knew it, I finished reading her blog from December 2008 all the way to her very first entry. I was so impressed by her background as an Art Director and her ability to capture the souls of these furry friends in her photographs. The photos are so artsy, I started wanting a session too. I did not hesitate and called her immediately and I am so glad I did.
Grace is so professional & so amazing around my dog, the photos turned out beyond my expectations. I love her ability to capture my dog's personality & quirkiness in her shots. Her patience & sharp eye for framing each photo result in absolutely amazing photographs. Choosing my favorite photos is the hardest part of the overall process. I just want to buy all the shots!
Two paws up!! The photos speak for themselves. As an art director and snob about most aesthetics, her photography is a treat for the eyes. The colors and light in her photos make every pet's personality shine through. I spend hours on her blog just coooing at all the adorable pets. Any of her pictures would be an amazing piece of art to hang in your home.

My experience with Shine Pet Photos is nothing short of amazing. From first e-mail contact to last camera click, Grace was professional and personable.
I scheduled a shoot for my little munchkins 10th birthday (hey, when you're a mommy, your baby will always be your baby, no matter how old they get). We arrived on location at Venice Beach, bright and early at 8:00 a.m. You would not believe how beautiful, serene and refreshing it is in the morning, before all the tourists, body builders and roller skaters come out to play.
We shot at the Venice Canals, beach side, and at the graffiti walls.
Tenzo immediately warmed up to Grace and her healthy treats. He seemed to really enjoy all the attention from her and smiling passerbys.
She truly is a master at her craft; she does what it takes to get great shots and you can really see that she takes pride in what she does and genuinely cares about capturing great shots that convey your dogs spirit and personality. For many of the shots, Grace was either crouched down or lying down to get face to face with Tenzo at some really unique angles.
I think it's an absolute must for a pet photographer to be an actual dog lover. Grace epitomizes the gold standard in her profession.

I was so so lucky to meet Grace (top notch, dog lover photographer) at the Modern Dog . We happened to be shopping for a collar for our puppy, Olive. Grace was on the floor with her camera...getting just the right shots at puppy level...her subjects were a bunch of adorable french bulldog puppies. I introduced myself and Grace was super friendly (as if I had known her for years). Fast forward a few months (the holidays were busy), and here we are.
Grace just left our home and we are so excited to see the proofs. She was absolutely professional and prepared (with treats and toys) and really had a special way with our 2 love bugs, Simba and Olive. They warmed up quickly to her and her camera.
I also love that Grace was also open to our ideas and requests. She shot indoors and outdoors, and gave us a preference of meeting in our home, or any local area. Also, I'm 7 months pregnant with our first and she gladly shot photos of our family, including my belly. We all felt really comfortable which I think is essential in getting great shots.
I highly recommend Shine Pet Photos and Grace Chon to anyone who wants beautiful, modern, and candid photos of their beloved pets/dogs. I know I'll treasure these photos forever.
This will be a two part review. First, I have to thank Elaine M and Vincent L for their reviews. I got their further input then contacted Grace at Shine Pet Photos.
Her blog and her portfolio were amazing. Then working with her to get a date, arrangement of the deposit, etc. was very smooth and professional. I felt great about the experience.
Today she came and brought an assistant, in case my boxer was very hyper. But he was his usual self, and very cute and loving. They worked with my dog and us to setup natural photos, candid settings, and very natural. She also took time to make sure he got breaks and interacted well with my dog.
She also suggested doing pics with us (both as a major part or background images to our dog). These are quite interesting, especially based on the pics I have seen on her blog.
We went from my house, to the local park, to other areas around the neighborhood. The settings were amazing, and she guided him well (despite his interest for the treats and getting more attention from her).
The next step will be the pictures themselves. And I will re-review based on those.
Saw ShinePetPhotos at Royal T at the Culver City artwalk. Apparently she won a nationwide award and a show in her honor there. The wine was free...

My husband and I hired Grace to do some portraits of us with our dog Dottie. Like other reviewers, we had never considering having portraits with our dog. However, we realized we didn't have any good photos of us together with our dog.
We found her through an article on Apartment Therapy - L.A. Grace is very easy to contact and was very professional. On the day of our shoot, Grace completely put us and our dog at ease. We have a 70lb. dog who tries to intimidate strangers. Grace was not put-off at all and by the end of the shoot had Dottie in the palm of her hands. The shoot was like hanging out with a good friend.
Aside from the service, the photographs are amazing. Everyone that sees them comments on how natural they look and how happy we all look. We couldn't help it. We were working with the best pet photographer in town.
If you couldn't tell by this review, we highly recommend Grace. Contact her soon before she's completely booked!
I just finished my session with Grace and my two cats. She made them feel so comfortable, and she was so ambitious and really went after each moment. she was so aware of every detail of the shot, as well as the comfort of my cats. i saw a few of the photos on her camera. i can't wait to see my proofs online.
