5 reviews for Sheraton Tucson Hotel & Suites
I've stayed here twice in my life:
1996 for my friend's wedding & 2009 on my way from Houston to LA.
Wow...what a huge difference 13 years can make! I remember when I was in school at U of A, we'd stick out parents here on occasion when they'd come to town. I even recall how odd it was that the doors were sliding glass doors instead of wooden ones!
But now, well...now the Sheraton is a little gem in the heart of Tucson. With it's MAJOR overall, the hotel is more boutique-like and less stucco-maven-esque. The lobby is nicely appointed as are the rooms and I highly recommend upgrading to a suite for a few extra bucks. It's definitely worth it. We went through Hotwire this time around and got the room for $75 a night as opposed to about double that AND they upgraded us for $15 bucks more per night but ended up not charging us. how cool is that?
Speaking of cool...we had been on the road for oh, 14 damn hours from Austin to Tucson and were a little, how should I say it..Grumpy MF'ers by the time we actually made it to the hotel. The 10 freeway was being revamped and all the darn exits from downtown til a few past the grant exit were CLOSED. Who the hell blocks off the whole city at once from traffic? That planner would be fired I tell you. We had to go about 17 miles out of our way to get to the hotel. So it was a very pleasant surprise when the hostess in the lobby offered us FREE glasses of Prickly Pear and Vodka! Ahhhhh....peace was had.
The pool is open 24/7 which I find to be AWESOME, there are firepits around the courtyard, and there's a drugstore across the street in case you need or forgot something. Also, just a note...our room didn't have a hairdryer so I'd suggest bringing your own! Lots of dining within walking distance (I suggest the Chicken Sonoma at Buddy's Grill...my fave back in college and it's still pretty damn tasty!)

Stayed here on a Hotwire deal in September 2009
Pluses:
* Internet terminals in lobby were fast and easy to use; I think they also have free wi-fi in the rooms but didn't have a computer with me
* Service was appropriately professional for a corporate hotel
* Air conditioning works well
* Nice restaurant bar next to interior courtyard pool and lounging area
Minuses
* Aging a bit from its ~70s origin
* No pool for laps and fitness center is kind of small (but has an elliptical and treadmill)
Overall
Not a memorable experience but solid place to stay.
I used to work at the Westin La Paloma in the foothills. I believe in the Starwood brand and think that they have some quality hotels. However, the La Paloma really costs an arm and a leg. So instead, the Sheraton is a nice cheaper little sister to the La Paloma.
The rooms are about as big as the La Paloma rooms and nicely appointed. Getting a suite is just a minor price upgrade and worth the money. Prices are way cheaper here than the resorts, but you're not getting the usual Tucson el cheapo dirty room. Plus you have the benefit of being right in the center of town, whereas the La Paloma is up in the foothills and more of a drive to major attractions.
They have a decent continental breakfast and the pool is nice to just sit around all day and soak up that hot Tucson sun. If I can't stay at the resorts, I'll happily stay here for a fraction of the cost. Well worth it!

I have a love hate relationship with Tucson, although were getting therapy. When it comes to accommodations, It's just hate. Rooms fall into two categories,
Cheep and Dirty
Clean and friggin Expensive
No in between, except for the Sheraton Suites. I have to admit that I only stay at starwood hotels (great rewards program) and that is the problem. I have three choices the four points, the La Poloma, and this hotel.
The Four Points is a museum of dirty carpet (keep your socks on) and the Westin never has rooms in my budget. That leaves me with the suites.
The rooms are big, quiet, and clean. They're a little corporate, but the service is nice. My only complaint is it that the hotel is in the middle of nowhere. If your on business, you could do worse.
*****Updated*****
I stayed in Tucson this week and have changed my rating to 4 stars. The hotel has been renovating rooms and the new suites are tight and clean. For the money. These are great rooms to stay in.

I stayed 4 consecutive nights here and I would definitely stay here again. overall, it was a nice hotel. I just loved the french doors that lead into the living-room portion of my suite. The bed was very comfortable and the sofas in the living area were so comfortable that i fell asleep on one of them for half a night. The courtyard contains a patio, large pool, and a spa, with a sauna and gym just steps away. I loved it so much, i didn't want to leave.
