25 reviews for Sheraton Pasadena Hotel
5 stars if someone else (my office, in this case) is paying. 4 stars otherwise.
I stayed here on business for 3 nights, and the service was outstanding. From a 3 page restaurant list broken down by cuisine type, to friendly offersto direct me walking, look up movie showtimes, and dirving directions to various locations, the staff was very helpful and pleasant. They even have good directions to Occidental College (random, but I had to go there) and other local spots, already printed for guests.
The room was spacious and very clean. The bed was very comfortabl. Most importantly, my request for more towels and shampoo was fulfilled by housekeeping within 5 minutes of my placing a call.
The location is convenient for finding dinner and shopping... you can walk across the street (out of the back of the hotel) and buy a suit for your meeting, new shoes, a cell phone charger, and an ything else you need... and also eat at restaurants with a variety of cuisines and price ranges.
Great business travel hotel.
I am having a very bad experience with this hotel, currently, and I feel the need to warn other potential future guests. I am not trying to be malicious, I just do not want other individuals to have to go through the same bad situation that I am going through.
On March 24th, 2009 I placed a reservation using the Starwood/Sheraton system for a stay in November. The type of reservation that I made was fully pre-paid. Of which the terms are:
Rate Plan Description: Reserve & Relax - Advance Purchase Rate is Fully Prepaid, Non-changeable, Non-Refundable. If Booked 21 Days in Advance, Receive 20% Off Of Rack.
GTD/Deposit Policy: USD 429.60 deposit is due on 03/24/2009 and will be charged to the credit card provided.
As seen/stated in my receipt / invoice:
http://www.flickr.com/...
My account was charged that day, as stated in the terms and conditions.
http://www.flickr.com/...
This is all fine and good. However, a few days later the transaction, I can only guess, was reversed from my account. I have it on my printed statement, but can find no record in my online transactions.
A few days ago, with no warning or communication from the hotel, I was charged for the room, again. This is MONTHS LATER WITH NO COMMUNICATION.
As I had assumed that the money had been paid on the account, as my bank statement indicated it had, I did not see a need to keep other money in my checking account, as I always try to move my money into savings, unless I plan on spending it.
Let me be clear that I am happy and fine paying for the room, but the random billing activities are unacceptable. I usually keep a small amount of money in my checking account, and move everything into savings. I need to know when large transactions are going to be going through, which doesn't seem like a lot to ask.
However, I would assume that when something is fully pre-paid, and you are charged that day, that it should be the final transaction.
Because of the lack-of-communication I have now incurred a number of over-draft fees because I had not moved money from my savings into my checking to cover the transaction.
On Monday I tried contacting the hotel, they sent me to the accounting department numerous times, where I was informed that the accounting dept. is on vacation until November 2nd, 2009.
On Tuesday I called the Sheraton corporate offices through the number in my "Starwood" account. Starwood is the parent company of Sheraton. They said that I needed to deal with the hotel directly, and forwarded an email the hotel.
On Wednesday I finally got a very nice woman to help me, but apparently she is an assistant or an admin, and even though she thinks the whole thing is bizarre, she cannot help me. I faxed over my bank statement, and my original invoice. She took this information and the emails that I have sent to the general manager, who claims he has called me back. He has not. I got one voicemail on Tuesday from Sheraton, from a Michael, who says the problem is with my bank, and to talk to them. The problem is not with my bank, it is with the Sheraton for randomly charging my account after the original date.
No other date other than my check-in and out, and my original billing date has been provided to me.
The following is an excerpt from an email I sent yesterday afternoon:
I had no way of knowing you were going to choose the 22nd of October to charge your account. If I should have known this date, where that was documented originally and communicated to me.
So ask how was supposed to know that they were going to charge it on the 22nd. I cannot express the undo stress this has put on me because of the lack of communication.
I want the amount to be refunded to my account, until my arrival, at which time i am happy to pay the full amount. If for some reason I do not show up, as the cancellation policy indicates, i will still be responsible for that full amount.
This hotel has provided me with unacceptable service and communication.
Insurance kindly put us up here when we had to do some repairs on the home. Stayed here for 1.5 months. 3.5 stars.
Beds are ultra comfortable.
In-room internet is NOT free. $59 a week. Would sometimes have issues. LAN speed is fine, wireless not so much.
Business Office has 3 free public computers. Small monitors, sticky keyboards. Prob should be cleaned more frequently.
LG Flatscreen TVs are nice but have issues at times w/ the visuals not turning on (only audio). Frustrating to repeatedly turn on/off TVs to get something.
Customer service @ the front desk was great. Friendly and fast.
Elevators are INSANELY slow.
Great location walking distance to Paseo Colorado & Old Town.
Pool is like 3 feet deep. Built for kids.
Gym is so-so. They have some medicine balls, which is kinda nice.
USA Today newspaper delivery every morning (except weekends). I believe you can also request the WSJ.
Maid Service does a good job but had a habit of leaving behind cleaning supplies, like random rubber gloves.
In room-movies are pricey, like over $15.
No free continental breakfast.
The faster (newer) washing machine is very sensitive in throwing error "Unbalanced", and when it does there goes $1.25.
All in all, no major complaints. Thanks Sheraton.

The Pasadena Westin hotel's pool was closed and since both are Starwood properties they shuttled us to the Sheraton to use their pool. The Sheratorn is not nearly as nice as the Westin (Sheraton is a category 3 and Westin is category 4) but the staff was very friendly even though they knew we were not guests of their hotel.
Located right next to the Paseo so you can walk to many restaurants, shops, convention center and movie theatre.
We loved this place. The only thing they should improve is their restaurant service. The servers seemed a bit incompetent.
Much better than the average Sheraton. Very clean, comfortable beds, no construction, very friendly staff, and the A/C works.

My expectations are usually quite low when staying in suburban Sheratons but this one was a little surprising. This place seems to specialise in weddings and when I arrived the place was overrun with wedding guests in various states of drunkeness.
Checking in was a breeze and as a Platinum Preferred Guest I got myself a massive suite on the first floor. Steps led down into a huge room with high ceilings with the bed one end and the living room at the other. Nothing to complain about here. The room seemed to have its own private balcony but access could only be gained climbing out of the one opening window. This was a little odd and I wasn't sure if the balcony was meant for me or not which was exacerbated by the presence of a small table and set of chairs outside.
Parking here is a very reasonable $13 a day with no valet available but the elevators serving the hotel are pretty slow and I found myself taking the stairs more often than not.
Food-wise, I had a tuna sandwich in the bar which was tasty yet unremarkable and I took advantage of the complimentary breakfast in the Club Lounge. This lounge is on the Club floor and consisted of two TVs (one showing Fox News, the other VH1, both at a pretty full volume!) when I asked if the VH1 set could be muted and the news channel changed the staff said they couldn't change the news channel because it was what the hotel GM watched. They did turn down the other TV a little but it was strange in such a small room to have two TVs blasting out different channels. The food was again unremarkable, with the usual bagels, toast, yoghurt selection. I would have liked to have seen some cold cuts and sliced cheeses rather than the ubiquitous pots of Philadelphia.
I paid $89 for my room which I thought represented excellent value for money but their website did say that you got complimentary internet access as part of their Club package. This was somewhat misleading as the free wifi only applies when in the restricted hours Club lounge.
Overall a very competent yet average Sheraton. The whole hotel could do with freshening up as the decor was very 1980s.
I am definitely a fan of this Sheaton Hotel. My family had to find a place to stay for an overnight because we had some plumbing issues at the house that could not be addressed in one day, so I was looking for a place that would take us all (including the dog).
Unlike most hotels I researched, the Sheraton did not charge extra for our dog (who is a 20 lb shih tzu). They also checked us in to a ground level room with stairs going down to the living room/bedroom area. The front desk person had a bellman bring us a doggie bed with a water/foodbowl and a goodie bag that included poop baggies.
The bathroom was clean and good sized. The shower had enough force and heat to make for a great shower experience. After being in a house with no running water for a day I was very happy to see this bathroom. The patio had a green area where our dog could do his thing with ease and as an old dog I know he appreciated that greatly. We all got a good night's sleep and I have never felt so welcomed when travelling with my dog as I did here.
I must say that this Sheraton is better than average Sheraton's. It has a lobby, huge rooms and clean bathrooms. It still has that old hotel feel like any other Sheraton but is at least spacious. It is located in the residential neighborhood which is awkward but than it gives more cozy feel. They have 2 business centres which is very helpful. They charge for parking so if you come after 5pm you can park on the street for free :) this hotel is located away from the downtown hustle and bustle
Literally the most generic hotel in the entire universe.

But after all, parking was a dope. Why the hell should you pay to park in a hotel you paid high for?
Otherwise: I liked the stairs in the rooms, made everything look so fancy. And the safety was really secured. *Thumbs up. Comfy room and bed also
Get a ground floor room if you can. There was a staircase in our room, I'm not kidding, that led from the room entrance area down to the rest of the room. Huge vaulted ceilings. A nice patio that looked out directly to the pool. The room was kind of strange but the beds were comfy enough. Good location.

I stay here for it's location and normally from a bid from Priceline. The room is okay and seems on the older side. It's clean but it doesn't have that super clean and fresh feel. It within walking distance to all the restaurants and bars.
Yeah, you have to pay for parking but in downtown San Diego they charge you $30 dollars a day for parking at several places so $13 was no big deal. I don't like having to pay for internet though. :(
There's a swimming pool here but it's super tiny but at least, there's a place to layout.

The room I'm in is nice, and clean. That's the best I've got for this place.
As others have said, $13 for parking. Huh? No thanks.
Also, $10/day for internet access. I refuse.
Breakfast. Don't bother. The buffet, which has a nice selection (scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, toast, fruit, yogurt, bagels, juice, etc) was $15. The service was very attentive. Eggs prepared to you liking were part of the buffet, which is recommended as the scrambled were cold. They did have a nice flavor, obviously cooked with milk or cream. With tax and tip, the breakfast experience was $19. There goes half the per diem. I'll hit the little cafe on the way to my work location, thank you.
Check-in service was courteous.

First - all the good things i have to say:
Really comfortable beds, and bedding. I felt all cuddly and warm.
Safe hotel.
Flat screen tv
Thermostats in the rooms
Great location - l like to walk and there's lots to walk to.
Gelson's market is a short walk - good alternative to a big, fat stuffy meal.
If you stay on the executive floor - continental breakfast, coffee, and evening wine and beer and noshes.
The bad stuff:
Why on earth does a hotel that charges $200/night also feel justified in charging for internet access (and a slow connection, to boot)? I can stay at a Holiday Inn Express and get it for free. I can get it for free at my airport, I can get it for free at most cheap hotels, and some cheap motels. Why does a big hotel have to gouge it's guests for this? It's poor form, I say.
What is with $ parking? C'mon, again - if I stay at a cheap motel, I get that for free. I honestly will never understand the "you paid more for the room, now you get to pay more for everything else" syndrome.

3.5*
Can't say that this is a horrible or great hotel either way, but it was comfortable for the price we paid off hotwire - actually, quite a good deal. The hotel itself is comfortable with nice amenities, a comfy bed, and a very nice gym and pool as told to me by the companion.
THeres an in-hotel restaurant, and while we never ate there, it shouldn't be tooooo shabby. Free hour'deorves during happy hour, and a free shuttle within a 5 mile radius.
Close to the nice old town Pasadena, which is very nice, as well as close to LA proper and the nearby cities of Alhambra, El Monte, San Gabriel, etc. etc. For many reasons, this place is a good choice if u want a clean, comfy hotel close to everything that Socal has to offer.
HOWEVER,
$13/Day for Parking = CRAP.
:(
Even, so this place was nice, but next time I come down here, maybe I'll check out the Hilton or Westin close by! :)

I actually just got back from there today. (=

It's an average 3 * hotel after all.
Pro:
The mall is right behind the hotel walk about 3 minutes (1 block) you will be there.
Con:
$13.00 a day self parking.
We walked around the mall area around 7 pm and there was couple homeless people begging for money.
In a residential area therefore it takes around 15 mins to get to the closest highway

Thank god I got this room at a huge discount and didn't have to pay higher then a room at Motel 6, but I did expect more from a Sheraton. I've been to plenty this past year and this one has to be my least favorite.
First of all, no matter how much they seem to talk up the 3rd floor as being a special "Club Level", don't get stuck with the wheelchair accessible room unless you like your bed to be on the floor. We weren't sure what was going on as the light switches were all super low, and the curtains had strange circular handles, but then noticed the roll in shower and...no thank you!!! My bf and I are both tall (which the front desk manager saw when he booked us in the room) and we felt like we walked in to an Oompa Loompa room. Thank goodness the front desk staff was extremely helpful and even though they said the higher the floor you go the smaller the room, I didn't care we were on the top floor (5), as long as I didn't have to get on my knees to get into bed. Our room was decent size but the ceiling needs to go. Old holey square panels that felt like they were going to fall on you. Bed was comfy, bathroom was clean, but if you are hungry past 11pm...you are shit out of luck! It's Pasadena...it's Labor Day weekend...why stop food service early??? RETARDED!!!!
Anyway, it's convenient to the main street but even when you get there...there isn't much to offer either. Oh well, been there done that! No need to go back after seeing it once!
I didn't stay overnight.
We attended a wedding reception last night. The day was hot and miserable. We couldn't wait to get to the reception so we could sit back, drink and cool down. Twas not in the cards. There were two rooms reserved for this gathering. The first, Piazza Atrium, was the bar/cheese n cracker table/pre-dinner entertainment. No fucking air conditioning. The second, Justines Ballroom, was the dinner room. And it was Alaska cold. Which is what we needed at that particular moment. But they wouldn't let us in. : l
We had to wait what seemed like forever before they opened those doors. The other problem I had with the first room was they had seating for only about 20 people and there were upwards of 80 to 90 people. The majority of us were overheated, tired and hungry and we had to stand for an hour and a half fanning ourselves with tiny cocktail napkins. Now for the bar....it was makeshift and they had the slowest bartender in wedding reception history. Scott had told me that Kevin wanted us to drink as much beer as possible because the Sheraton was going to resell to regular bar customers whatever wasn't finished. He also mentioned that it was an open bar up to $1000 so drink up and do it fast! We kept an eye on the tally all night and it wasn't even close to $1000. Scott went up to the bar after dinner and noticed the tally was at $800. He ordered a whiskey and coke and the bartender said that the bar was closed. He mentioned that the tally was only $800 and he should keep serving up to $1000. The bartender said that they were not getting the tips expected so they closed the bar and kept the $200. Unfuckingbelievable.
The buffet was a standard L shape, the tables were decorated beautifully with Gardenia floating candles, the room itself was sparkling with all the crystal on the tables. They played "finish these lyrics" to get food. We won the first round. Some silly emo boy at the table next to us messed up the number to Tommy Tutones- Jenny but our table was practically jumping out of our seats to give the right answer. We got it and were able to eat first. The food was very good. I had the roast beef. Not the best I've ever had but it did the trick.
I would never book this place for my reception. Big venues like this have limitations, restrictions and you HAVE to do it their way. No thanks.

We booked a pre-paid room through http://Starwood.com the night before our planned stay. Thanks to the yelp comments, we took advantage of a street parking space right outside the hotel. We walked into the very noisy hotel - a wedding was wrapping up on a Saturday night. We got to the front desk and discovered the hotel was completely full and we were going to get "walked" to the Hilton around the corner. Pretty surprising for a 1) pre-paid room, 2) booked through Starwood, and 3) I'm a Platinum Starwood member!!! So my conclusion is that regardless of the mediocre reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor, this is still a very popular choice.

I stayed overnight on a weekend. The parking was somewhat difficult but found a spot in 10 minutes. Check-in counter was friendly and helpful. The rooms on the first floor have patios which are wide open, so make sure to lock the sliding door before you leave for the day. The bed was comfortable and the decor adequate. In the end, nothing to write home about, but definitely doesn't hurt the Sheraton name.

Cal had to be in Pasadena for a fencing tournament, and I have a good friend who lives there, so he invited me along. We were thinking about asking one of our friends if we could crash at their place, but since he was fencing two days in a row, I decided to book a nearby hotel for his convenience (awww, I know, I'm a good gf ;) ). Being the librarian that I am, I decided to find all the hotels within walking distance and price them. This seemed like the best value for the location. Little did I know that it was right next door to the venue (Pasadena Center). On the map, it seemed like it was just on opposite sides of a big block. So, it turned out to be the best hotel in the area. The room was super clean, the bed was really comfortable, the toiletries rocked, and everyone was super duper nice...like, beyond great customer service. I wish we had time to hang by the pool. The one thing that that sucked was paying $13 to park for a night. Oh well. I'd stay here again. Plus, my friend lives right down the street from this place so it all worked out.

This is one of the two hotels my company sets us up in whenever we're down south for training, meetings, or company functions. The rates can be a little high but I've managed to book it through Hotwire for around 30-40%off...pretty sweet considering it's right there in Old Town Pasadena and it's a nice, clean hotel with plenty of amenities. Friendly service, convenient location. But I don't like how they charge you $7 a day for parking. It's socal give me a break parking should be free. They have free shuttle service running until 11pm too in case you wanted to go bar hopping in old town and didnt want to drive. You'd just need to take a taxi back.
Horrible Experience. We had pre-paid for a room through http://Hotels.com, and arrived late - around 1am to check in. The manager handed us a letter informing us that they had sold our room, and that we were to go across town to the Marriott. We mentioned that we had pre-paid, but the manager said that that didn't matter since the rooms were all sold, and the letter would pay for our room at the Marriott. In fact, we had paid for a premium room which we now did not receive.
The night manager explained that the previous manager earlier in the evening had given away the rooms and there was nothing that he could do. Needless to say we are disappointed with the Pasadena Sharaton regarding this incident.
We did get accommodations at the Marriott, which showed much better customer service than this hotel so we don't plan on booking again at the Pasadena Sharaton. This is just bad management.
We complained to Sharaton, but it's been over a week, and heard nothing from the company. Sad.
