This place has been refirbished resently.  The furniture inside the lobby as well as the rooms are somewhat new, but the building itself is old and as soon as you enter the very first time, it smells that way too.

First of all, parking is somewhat confusing at first.  I read about the parking situation from http://www.tripadvisor... and also called to ge tthe lastest rates.  Valet is $22 and self parking is $12.  I opted for the valet this time do to the fact that I got a good rate and the hotel.  Once you valet, they ask if yo wanted to velet or self park and told you the rates.  I told them valet and left the car.  On my way to the registration desk, another valet guy asked if I wanted to valet or self park and explained the rates again.  I told him I intended to valet and the other valet guy was taking care of it.  As I was registering, they too ask and told me about the rates.  I told them I was aware and to add it to the room charge.  I guess they must get a lot of complaints and it is understandable.  Valet is over-priced for the area!  As for the self-parking, you can do that but the garage is across the street and if you have bags and all that stuff, could be a hassle to drag along with you.  You could park in front of the valet area and unload and check in than park your car, but that could get old after awhile if you plan to use your car a lot.

The lobby is quite small and half of it is taken up by the new "Link" by Sheraton which consist of computers, chairs and a roomy sitting area with a large screen TV.  The fitness area is on the lobby area as well and the restaurant and bar are as well and face the water.

The room was average at best.  Nothing too exciting.  The offer cabled high speed internet for a fee.  There is a flat screeen TV about 32"s.  The bathroom was a bit small and had some runnning rust in the shower.  Well, I think it was running rust?

There was a club lounge but I think it was closed as it was the weekend?  I only tried to go in once and it was about 8pm to try and get a bottle water.  The card did not work so I assume it was closed.  They did offer a few extra amenties in the Club Level Rooms like water, shower gel and mouth wash.

I had a free breakfast (Platinum Member) the next morning.  You could either have the buffett or order from the menu.  I ordered from the menu French toast with eggs and coffee.  The meal was hot and tasty, so no complaints, but service was a tad slow, but I was in no hurry.

The hotel is next, not connected to The Waterside Shopping Area.  however, the shopping area had only about half of the stores occupied.  It is an easy walk to the McArthuer Shopping Center.

The hotel is okay, and probably one of only a few decent hotels in the downtown area.

I was sent to Richmond for 3 weeks and I made the drive to Norfolk for one weekend. The hotel was huge and nice. The people at the front desk were really nice and I got a great travel agent rate for like 35.00 per night so already it was worth it. The room was regular size with a work desk and a few chairs to lounge in. The bar in the hotel was cool because it overlooked the water. There is a mall right next door that had other places to eat like Hooter's and Joe's Crab Shack. In the mall there was quite a few gift shops and tons of little places to eat. The day that I was leaving to go back to Richmond I stopped by the mall to grab something to eat and to my surprise the mall was having a open audition for "The Biggest Loser" and needless to say that place was packed (in more ways than one). I had a great time in Norfolk and if I ever go back I will stay at this hotel.

Peace Out
MZ

Got a great deal here through http://priceline.com, and had a wonderful stay. The lobby here is beautiful and they offer plenty of amenities such as a fitness center and i noticed some pretty big conference rooms.

The rooms were nice, but a bit on the small side. The bartenders in the hotel bar were very friendly despite our crowd being a little on the rowdy side.

My only problem with this hotel in particular is that the closest parking is in a garage thats a good walk from the hotel. Not a problem when the weather is nice, but if it's windy or cold (and its often windy so near the water) its an annoyance.

The people working the front desk were very courteous and quick to supply us with some incidentals that we had forgotten. All in all we had a good stay here. Would stay there again for sure.

We had a TERRIBLE experience at this hotel.  We tried checking in a little early and the rooms weren't available yet so we decided to hang out in the lobby until we were allowed to check in.  It got SOOO crowded and there were people everywhere - crying kids, barking dogs, upset people - not good.

Great place to stay. For those people associated with EVMS you can get a great deal. I've only been to Norfolk 3 times and all 3 times I've stayed here. They have a free shuttle service that when not in use can take you to wherever you need to go and pick you up from wherever. Their City Dock restaurant is fantastic as well. They have wonderful steaks.
