Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel & Conference Center
4 reviews for Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel & Conference Center
We stayed in this hotel for a wedding. The people working there were extremely polite and very friendly. The common areas were kept relatively clean. I didn't use the pool or gym so I cannot comment on those.
The building has a starbucks downstairs, which is very handy. There is some lounging space and a little computer/wifi center attached. Nice to have if you don't have a laptop. As for wifi in the rest of the building, you have to pay for it ($10 - 1 day, $15 for 2 days). This is not exactly business friendly. In addition, depending on your room, wifi may or may not work. I was in room xx26 and could not get a signal so I had to work in the lobby. They may have "accelerator" kits at the front desk to help with this problem. Oh - and not too many sockets, so if you have a lot of plug-in needs, you'll need to do some hunting.
A few other things that I found strange - rooms did not have safes, though you could sign up for the safes behind the front desk area. This is free of charge. There are a limited number of them though. Rooms also did not have refridgerators. You can rent one for your stay - $25. Lastly - the shape of the corner rooms is ridiculous. The rooms are in an "L" shape, so you have to walk in and make a 90-degree turn to get to the rest of the room. It wouldn't be a big deal, except it makes a decent sized room feel much smaller.
The building itself is well maintained. It has tons of meeting space. The staff is very accomodating when it comes to specific needs.
Morning breakfast "club lounge" is basically a suite on the 21st floor. Has some pastries, bagels, eggs, cereal, and juices. They have some tables, a tv, and a couch set up. As for the lobby restaurant (Chairman's something or the other), the food is not exactly great. We had one meal here. Very, very standard. Don't expect anything great going in. Staff, though friendly, was very slow in doing anything.
Stayed for 5 weeks in January and February as my client was in the neighboring office building. Very nice, but noting special, although the staff was nice and the rooms and public spaces newly renovated.
But, OH MY F... GOD - try to find this hotel from the Jersey turnepike. Its almost impossible. I think it cost me an additional $10 for going back and forth 4 times to find the exit which I found only by mistake.
The independent limo company based in that hotel is fun. We had a driver who was supposed to bring us to an address on 42nd street in Manhattan and dropped us 4 blocks away from the real address, making us walk at -5! On another occasion the driver cut through some solid lines and lanes and front of the lincoln tunnel, whereas we got stopped by a friendly officer. Turned out our driver's business license was expired. Therefore we had to wait until the limo company send us another driver. Well,it was fun, but would I have been under time pressure I would have went ballistic - oh I forgot, I actually was under time pressure. Guess, I am getting old.

My employer booked my reservation here for a national conference. All of my colleagues and peers were also checking in or meeting in the lobby or bar. I travel allot for work, and my company has "Platinum star wood guest membership" The manager and associate told me that the reservation was not under my name so I could not check in. It was in my boss's name and on his credit card. Basically the guy made me feel like a dead beat who was trying to scam a room. Really am I going to con my way into a hotel in Jersey and attend a business conference?! Instead of looking into what was clearly a glitch, they moved on to the next person leaving me in the lobby with all of my luggage. They could have offered to call the card or account holder. No, my boss had to call them to straighten it all out. Over all the hotel was nice and clean, newly renovated. I had a view of Manhattan. The bell guys and housekeepers were nice. The staff in general were good. On my second day here my key failed to let me in my room. I called the desk using the phone in the elevator lobby and the person who picked up just said "you are here through the 19th." Okaay... not "please come to the desk and we will give you a new key, sorry for the inconvenience" I am normally a nice yelper, this place is not a bad place. Its clean and the finishes are new, the staff worked their butts off to serve the conference event, however my experience with checking in was not acceptable.
update: as I am still staying here, Andre at the front desk is great.

I attended a conference in New York, and the person who coordinated the conference recommended this hotel. This is Holiday Inn grade. Sheraton hotels are not always consistent in grade.
The bars close early in New Jersey. My friend and I ended up taking a cab to hang out at a bar nearby.
There's complimentary internet access at Starbucks at the lobby level, so I hung out there in the mornings. There's also a business center by the escalators.
Ask for Jacob. He's a contract- driver for Sheraton Meadowlands. He's funny and personable. You can hire him by the hour so that you don't have to worry about catching different cabs. The cab drivers in New York are all shady, especially the ones who don't have a meter. They're unlicensed cab drivers.
I got into a fight with one in New York. I was almost certain that I was going to have to physically beat him down.
Giovanni is the manager there. He hooked me up because I got in at 6 a.m. He was very accommodating, and I appreciated that, especially after my altercation with the cab driver.
