I think 3.5 stars is a bit more realistic.

Evidently this is one of the Sheratons that was skipped over during their multi-million dollar renovations...

I stayed in the "Bay Room" suite and it really could have used an update. The bed was comfy, but the couches in the living room were whack.

Stayed for three nights while attending a conference at the convention center, so it was convenient and within walking distance of a few good restaurants around the area. The bar in the lobby was decent and had Guinness on tap, so I was a happy girl!

At the time of check out, I reviewed my bill and saw no additional charges. I thought everything was well.  Until a few days after my departure, I notice an additional charge of $50 on my credit card bill.

When I attempted to call the hotel to reach the accounting department, the conceirge says they dont open until 9am. I say I will call back.  I call back at 9am and I'm told, by the same person who told me to call back at 9am, that the people in accounting dont arrive until 9:30am.  OKAYYY.

This time I call back at 10:30am to make sure they are there.  At 10:30am I'm transferred to a voicemail and the voicemail message says this person will be out on vacation for 10 days. RIDICULOUS! I hang up and call back and ask the guy if only one person works in accounting because I want the incorrect charge corrected NOW, not in 10 days. He transfers me to someone else, and again I get voicemail. This time I leave a message. Someone calls me back and says the charge is for valet parking. I tell the lady I didnt rent a car let alone valet any car.  I get a call back and am told someone used my last name and room number at the time of the valet service. I dont know how Sheraton checks things when they are charged to the room, but if they had checked, they would have seen that only one person stayed in my room (ME) and I had said I had not rented a car during my weekend stay there. My cousin has had other fraudulent charges as well with her prior Sheraton stays (not at this particular hotel). Only the Sheraton employees knew all my info. So I know it was an inside job. I'm hoping Sheraton will figure it out and fire these people.

Ok, so we only stayed one night and didn't utilize all the amenities, however, for the short time we were there, all was not wonderful. First, after waiting 20 minutes in line, we were using gift certificates which seemed to throw the new clerk a curve ball. Wasn't sure how to enter them into the system, so there was a delay while we waited for his supervisor to teach him how to do it. Not a problem though. We weren't in a particular hurry, but they seemed to be short on staff.

I had reserved two rooms and when we went to try the card key to one of the rooms, it wouldn't open. Went back to the lobby, where the clerk discovered that he had written the wrong room number down and the keys actually went to a different room.

Ok, deep breath. Discovered that neither room had towels. Not one. Not a single towel. Had to call housekeeping to get towels.

Then our phone wouldn't work so Engineering had to come to the room and replace it.

View was a spectacular site of the air conditioning unit. Ok, not a big deal. Not all rooms have a great view.

But the topper on the cake was the delay in getting our car out of valet the next morning. We checked out via phone because we tried to use the automated check-out on the TV, but it couldn't retrieve information on either room. After we checked out, we called valet for our car and gave them about 15 minutes notice as they had instructed when we checked in. When we went downstairs to retrieve our car, there was another 15 minute delay because valet hadn't gotten the message that we had called ahead.

Overall, not a great stay, but after talking to the hotel clerk, he informed us that they're running at about 50% capacity with blocks of rooms not available (I understood this to mean they are not cleaned and not available to reserve) due to the decline in the hotel industry and their overall consensus. I can't help but think they're cutting corners to save money.

Positive: the room was clean, had no odd aroma and the hotel staff was quick to respond to our lack of towels, non-working phone, etc. The hotel is also centrally located so walking to restaurants and clubs was convenient which is why we chose to stay there.

Would I stay here again? Probably. Sheraton has a decent reputation and I wouldn't say it was a horrible stay; just not a great stay.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights a week for 2 years because of a consulting assignment. Very freindly staff. They want to help.
The bar gets an extra star because they have Anchor Steam beer. .
One thing, work the rate issue. If they're not booked or if you're a frequent guest, deals can be had. I travel a lot. I found this place to be a good value.

I'd prefer to give them 3.5 stars.

Room: The rooms here are decent size and includes a large flat screen tv, a sitting area near the window where you can also lie down or lounge and watch people walking on the street. There's a spacious tub and bathroom stocked with Bliss products - including conditioner, shampoo, bar soap, shower gel, and extra amenities such as mouthwash, shoe shine, and vanity kit for Starwood gold/plat members. The beds are very comfortable though i wasn't a big fan of the colorful sheets/bedding look. Overall, the room was pretty clean. Not the cleanest I've been in, but I didn't think it was dirty in any way.

Location: Location is in heart of downtown. Very convenient to all the offices if one was here for business. Also plenty of food selection within walking distance (def. a difference from eating in SF and Sacramento quality of "good" food, but not too shabby).

Parking: Parking cost money and is across the street in a multi-level lot. $13 dollars a day with in and out privileges.

Lobby: Lobby is huge and there is a bar near the reception area. 1 downside and one reason why it does not get a 5 is the loudness of it. It also has a slightly cramped feeling near the bar area when they are hosting conferences and it gets very loud.

Internet: They offer free internet connection through Link aka their set of computers with free internet in the other side of the lobby. Also, includes free printing. This was a very nice perk and I def. took advantage of it. While there's suppose to be a time limit per day/.per room, it does not seem to be enforced at all since you can just re-sign in.

Food: I had the continental breakfast here and it was good for Sacramento, CA quality. It would just be okay for the amount I paid (close to 20 bucks) for breakfast. However, it was good for where it was at.

Service: Service is okay here. Hence 1 less star. However, they did try to accommodate me when I complained about the noisy high school kids that were there for a weekend for a conference. SO loud and were running up and down my hallway. I also felt that one of the customer service ladies was kind of rude to me. At the time, I didn't have status and she was not nice at all. Hey, while I like status, still treat people with respect! We're all customers!

Safety: I was told by hotel staff to be careful around the neighboring area. There are some "rough" patches in downtown several blocks pass the parking lot across the street. Beware when walking back to the hotel late at night. It's not a bad area, but always good to be aware of things.

Tip: If you want to kill boredom and are there for extended period, get a free library card. You can do so as a CA resident for free. There you can get free wireless internet with your laptop and free internet via the library's computer stations. I also checked out some books while I was there to kill time in he hotel room.

Not a bad place for a weekend getaway from the bay area or if you are halfway and wanted to not drive anymore after a weekend trip to Lake Tahoe or Reno or simply just to visit the state capitol or for business.

My review is not of the hotel or its accomodations but more of its bar.  And i find it enjoyable how Sacramento seems to be experiencing this resurgence of the "hotel bar" scene.

When i've come to Sac on the few occassions that i have, my friend likes to take me for drinks at hotel bars, including this one at the Sheraton, in addition to the usual stand-alone bars and clubs.  It's actually quite nice.

The Sheraton bar is pretty good with full service for cocktails, beer and wine.  Their martini wasnt really to my liking but, then again, i didnt order it.  It was ordered for me (i love Democrats), but hey, cant really complain with free.  But on the other drinks ive ordered, i can say the price is a bit expensive.  But then again, when has anything in a hotel been cheap?

It was a nice little bar that was set up decently because it is set away from and with some decent seperation from both the lobby and registration area so it works out well as a place to go drink as opposed to a place that you drink that is also a hotel.  They had decent seating but, while i was there, the seats were always taken by the politicos chatting it up over drinks.

Like i said, the place is good and there is just something fun about the resurgence of the hotel bar scene.  I will have to try more hotel bars in Sac to see which one i like best.

Always expensive, but hey, I'm here on business only during conferences, so i get what i pay for, right?
Valet is totally the way to go if you plan on parking and staying put for a few days.
Check-in is always fast and convenient.
so why the two stars? their restaurant food is bland and the service is S...L...O...W... the only thing that came out quickly was the pen and receipt to sign for the card. It was breakfast for godsake! i had dined in the evening prior and sea bass wasn't that bad, but it was oddly coupled with cheese rice(?)
i was lucky enough to take over an unoccupied room (my absent coworker) on the 26th floor, and the next day be demoted to the 17th (once she arrived). The difference between the two? the 26th floor has an unimpressive "clubhouse" and you get a vanity set and shave cream. the 17th floor room is identical aside from that.

The bar in the lobby alone gets five stars.

It was NYE. It was 1 am. It was no longer worth it to pay a cover anywhere. We were losing our buzz. The guys in our party were underdressed and would not be allowed anywhere. All the liquor stores were closed. We really needed to use restrooms. WHAT TO DO!?!?!?

Sheraton's bar gladly opened up their doors to us. No cover (though there was some velvet-roped section downstairs). Decent crowd. Kinda swank set-up. Clean bathrooms. Friendly bar staff. Comfy bar furniture. Drinks were kinda expensive...but no cover so I won't hate. Once we saw a menu (after ordering drinks), it looked like they had some pretty sweet house drinks and appetizers. Near an intersection with good taxi traffic for NYE (something Oakland sure as #@$% doesn't have). A happy accident indeed.

We always always always stay at the Sheraton Grand in Sacramento.  Great beds and linens, large flat screen tvs, decent room service and lots of fun restaurants and bars within walking distance.

I have always known Starwood properties to be dog friendly.  However, it never occurred to me to bring both dogs to a hotel.  My dogs are freaking huge.  The GSD is almost 100 pounds and the Dane is close to 140.  They didn't even blink an eye.  They have one floor that is a pet floor, floor 6.  The doggies have a love/hate relationship with the elevator.  They are at once fascinated by it and scared enough to poop their collective fur pants.  Everyone in the hotel has been very friendly and welcoming to my pooches.  I love that and so do they.

I knocked 1 star off because of their bar policy. The damn thing closes at 10:30.  I have seen them close that bar down at 10:30 when there is a bar full of customers.  What.the Sam.Hill?  I need drinks, especially after 10:30.  And no room service after midnight.  Warning, if you are hungry late be prepared to wake ravenous.

Me and my family wanted to spend labor day weekend away from home and just relax.  We received a discounted room on the club level with free continental breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres.

Ok so here are the bad things:
- You have to pay for parking. I recommend parking it across the street yourself for $18 per day instead of having the idiots do it for $25 per day. It seemed like everyone that valet parked were waiting around complaining about how long it took for them to get their car. I think it's ridiculous to even have to pay for parking when you're a guest but at least you get in and out privileges.
- They have a good variety of pay per view movies. Even some movies that are still in the theater. We rented The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3. But of course, it was $14 plus tax. The good thing about that is if you fall asleep watching the movie, it saves it for you for until 12pm the next night, I think. The bad thing is, they show commercials of "movies you can order now" and when you go to the menu, the movies on the commercial are not even there! Guest services claims there was a problem getting the movies downloaded. Whatever!
Then to top it off, the entire last night we were there, the menu option for the movies didn't work. We were unable to even access the system and rent a movie.
- WHAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU IS...room service goes to "lunch" from 12pm-5:30pm. WTF???? That's a siesta not a lunch break! I think all working class would love a break that long! We found out that it's because of the economy, they had to cut the service at this time. Don't worry, you're not missing anything anyway because...
- The room service menu is the exact same menu as the restaurant downstairs and it's not a lot of variety.
- Don't listen to the breakfast buffet story they give you at check in, it doesn't exist. We went for the buffet on Monday morning and were told they only do it if breakfast is busy. If there's not a crowd, there's no buffet. At this point, we're thinking, this place is getting better and better.
- DON'T USE THE BATH PRODUCTS. I had the pleasure of using the Mandarin mint lotion on my arms and about 15mins later, I broke out in a full fledged rash all up and down my arms. AMAZING!
- There's no safe in your room. They do have something at the concierge that you can use but I'd prefer to keep my things in my room.
- You're supposed to be able to use the TV menu to view your account but that option NEVER worked, not even once. Our biggest problem during our stay was the inconsistency of the menu on the TV.
- The "free continental breakfast" was mini (and I mean mini) pastries, a few boxes of cereal and toast. The evening hors d'oeuvres...baby egg rolls. Don't even bother paying extra for the included food. The club room is really small and because the food is free, everyone crowds in like cattle and sit around staring at one another. We walked right in and right back out. I don't like to have breakfast on top of other people while we pretend the food is good and the hotel attendant watches to make sure you don't walk out of the room with crappy food because "its not allowed".
- The "heated outdoor pool" is TINY! With a sign that actually states the pool limit is 11 people. WOW! If you consider it spitting out hot water in small amounts, every 20-30mins a heated pool, then this is it. I expected it to be and STAY heated, I should have known better. But no one else seemed interested in the pool so we had it all to ourselves which was a big plus.

THE GOOD THINGS:
- Even though the hotel has it's problems, the customer service is amazing. The people are nice, every time we called for towels or more coffee, water, we even called for a bottle opener, they were knocking at the door no more then 10mins later.
- The food at the restaurant is over priced but the omelets are great and the presentation is beautiful. They take a lot of time to make the meals look pretty.
- The view from the rooms on the club level are AMAZING! The room is mediocre and looks a little motel 6'ish but the bathrooms are nice.
- Starbucks coffee in the room is a big plus. But they only give you 2 pouches of coffee, 2 cups, 2 lids, 2 stirrers and 4 creams and sugar. So load up on the stuff when the maid comes.
- Anything you eat, drink, purchase or use gets billed directly to your room, nice!
- Check in was 3pm but we arrived at 10:30am and our room was ready. We were sooooo appreciative of that. I really thought we were going to have to hang around with our 2 year old until 3. But as soon as we gave our names, they said the room was ready.

Overall, I enjoyed my little getaway but I doubt I would ever go back to this hotel.  I think this should be a 3 star hotel and not a 4 star one.

I wanted a nice hotel with a great location that would take dogs, and
that's exactly what I got.  So why didn't I love it?

Hint:  if you are a person who *takes their dog on vacation*
it is not so that every one working there will give him the
cold paw.  Luckily, Onyx is not concerned with the attentions of
others and will survive this insulting blow.

GRAND, GRAND, GRAND!!!!  I am SPOILED!  Room service brought me a box of chocolate truffles (Joseph Schmidt)!!!!!!!!  How's that for turn-down service?!?

This was a wonderful spot for a meeting.  The facilities were the perfect size for our group and the staff were friendly and very helpful.  The machines in the newly renovated workout room look to the outside which is nice.  Their business center is on the lobby floor and is open to all, and is free; the computers at the business center all have large flatscreens and webcams at each station...and a laser printer.

I love how the rooms and many of the common rooms have windowseats to sit at so that you can look out.  Some of the smaller meeting rooms also have big windows to let in the sunshine and view of the trees (or daydream out of while the presenter is talking...j/k...I was paying attention to every word, really).  The arugula salad they served at lunch was really good too.  We also had a delicious pumpkin cheesecake.

Everything was clean, clean, clean and I love the mandarin-mint Bliss products.  I also really love that everything is within walking distance and they kept the historic portion of the building of vendors.  Their "Heavenly Bed" is one hotel bed I don't mind too much when I'm away from my own bed...

YAY!!!!  THANKS STARWOOD!!!!

Upon check-in I was told I had gotten a free upgrade to the club level and can enjoy the lounge and the free drinks/snacks there.  I was disappointed that the lounge was notches below a college dorm game room.  At least there was free bottled water and cheese/crackers that seemed like they've been sitting out for a while.

For $300/night in Sacramento, I expected better but the hotel was only par at most.   Long lines to check-in (despite the later evening hour) and just the standard Sheraton room.

The hotel was convenient to the convention center which was a huge plus. Otherwise, nothing really noteworthy on this hotel.

I'm not a big fan of Sacramento (aka Saca-tomatoes) but needed a hotel fast and got this one on Priceline.  Great deal.

The hotel is really lovely from the lobby to the rooms.  Mine was small but very comfortable and quite clean.

The only complaint I have, and this goes for all hotels, is the NOISY AZZ DOORS THAT SLAM EVERY TIME THEY ARE CLOSED.  Come on, this isn't Fort Knox, and I gotta sleep.

This is the best hotel i have stayed at in Sac.  Not sure, but it seems kind of new with the rooms being fairly modern, including flat screen tvs.  From the street view you can see the bar/lounge which seemed to be happening for a weeknight and a nice mixed crowd.  Exercise room is medium size with mostly cardio equipment and one set of free weights.  Pool is moderately sized.
Service was up to par, but the parking lot is across the street.  So i suggest valet, if you don't feel like walking in the heat in the day in the summer or freezing your rear off in the winter nights.

Really liked this hotel.  While I'm not a fan of Sac, this hotel is the place to stay if you are going to visit.  The rooms are big with large windows, nice views and comfy window seats.   Everything was super clean, large bathroom with Bliss products. And they welcome dogs.  Service is quite solid - room service within 30 minutes or free, requests at the front desk are actually taken care of and the staff is very professional and service oriented.

The location is pretty nice - easy walk to the Capitol grounds, window shopping on K street and you can head straight down to Old Sac (unless its 115 degrees out.

Oh yes, beds are nice - good linens, the tv is large and internet connection speedy.

When I staying overnight for work in Sac I usually stay here.  The hotel is located right smack in downtown Sac near the capitol bldg and across the street from the convention center.  I wouldn't recommend staying here if you're here on vacation (hmmm...vacation in Sac...something not clicking about this) b/c it is really a "business" hotel b/c of it's locale.

The rooms are nice especially on the "Starwood Preferred" floors and the top 2 floors of the hotel which are the "Club Level" floors.  The hotel has an indoor pool and a decent size fitness room on the 4th floor.  There's a nice lil bar near the lobby that also serves decent "bar snack foods."  Parking is available as valet $20/nt or self park at the lot across the street for $13/nt.

A few blocks from the hotels you can find some decent restaurants including Mason's (nice outdoor cabana hangout places to have drinks), Mikuni and Nishiki (2 of the best sushi places in Sac!)

My experience at the Sheraton was great, but I expected spectacular because it's the Sheraton "Grand". The rooms were clean, the service was extremely friendly and helpful, and its conveniently located to downtown. So all that made for a great expeience. What didn't make it "GRAND" are in my comments below.

PARKING - Not included with your stay. Parking is self park and its across the street at $13/day. The Sheraton also offers Valet parking for more than $13/day.

RESTAURANT & CAFE - The food at the Sheraton is good, but not amazing to fit its prices.

Where do I even start? If it weren't for the location and our special student group/event discount, we would've definitely stayed someplace else.

I made a reservation for 4 adults/3 nights, and then I checked my reservation online: ONE KING BED?!! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! Yes, we're college students, but no, we're not looking for a sausage fest or a drunken pile on ONE bed. We're looking for a comfortable, good night's rest after a full day's worth of events...x3.

The ridiculous part is, if it weren't for the discount, it would've cost us over a thousand total, not counting everything else, like overpriced parking. We're college students, not the Governator's celebrity buddies or tax collectors, ok?! and even if we were, we definitely wouldn't have been able to fit on one bed...esp if we were the, uhh, huskier ones.

So I called in and changed it to two beds, thank goodness. Interior/room wasn't great...I've been in better, but I guess it was too bad either. marble bathroom counter, flat-screen TV, window seat/bed, THANK GOD FOR THE IRON (you know, crinkled luggage clothing from 10sec shove-packing)...

A bottle of water was $4 though, so I ate icecubes.

My experience at the Sheraton Grand was for lack of a better word....GRAND!  I am surprised by some of the poor reviews as I enjoyed my stay here and thought both the hotel and staff were great.   We were in town for a wedding and the hotel had blocked off several rooms for friends and family.

The hotel is located downtown and is within walking distance of several bars and restaurants.  Parking is a pain and a bit expensive but not a deal breaker.  I thought the rooms were spacious, clean and well-appointed.  The beds are extremely comfortable and the rooms were quiet-allowing us to sleep in late every morning!

The hotel bar downstairs is classy and spacious-it's a fun place to grab a pre-dinner drink or a night cap with friends.  Room service was quick and the food was average for the price but I wish they would have served after 11:00pm during the week to curb our our drunken, late-night club sandwich cravings.  *NOTE: there is NO place in the area (walking distance) that serves food after 11:00pm during the week-only Fri/Sat it seems, so buy a snack for your room.

The hotel staff is friendly and helpful-especially Esther the sweet lady who cleaned our room every day-she was great!  I'd definitely stay here again!

Somtimes, I really wish we can give half stars on yelp, because this was really a 2.5.  I don't want to give this hotel less than a 3 because the non food aspects of the hotel was very good.

I just came back from stay for my buddy's wedding.  The reception was also there.

The rooms were pretty nice; clean but a little bit cramped.  The bed was very comfortable.  I liked the view out of my window.  Especially with the Sacramento Cathedral in the foreground, you almost forget that you're in Sacramento, almost.  The downstairs bar was happenin' I attribute that to the UFC fights in town.  I heard that most of the fighters were staying at the Sheraton.  Drink prices were a little bit expensive; San Francisco prices at a Sacramento locale.  But in their defense, it is pretty nice bar as far as hotel bars go in Sacramento.

My experience was generally positive but the food served at this hotel has most definitely knocked this review down a notch or few, hence my "2.5".  At the wedding reception, I ordered a steak.  My steak was overcooked.  There's well done and there's overcooked; again, my steak was overcooked.  I looked across the table at my friend's steak and his was undercooked.  The mashed potatoes and vegetables that was served with this steak was plain and very uninspired.  To put it plainly, I've had better meals at an IHOP.  The room service breakfast was also overpriced ($20) and I don't think the quality would have been that good considering the quality of the steak I received.  I have ordered less expensive breakfasts (not by much, but still less expensive) of higher qualities in equivalent hotels in other cities.

If they really want this hotel to be "grand," they should hire a new kitchen staff.  You can't be charging "grand" prices for subpar food.

I'll stay at this hotel again, but I will never eat there again.

When I stayed here about 2-3 years ago, we stayed on the same night as the player's ball.  Oh yes, it was the freaking festival of spinning rims, low-rider Cadillacs, and Cadillac Escalades.  Standing by the front door watching all the pimpmobiles ride up to valet is an experience I just can't forget.  My mother immortalized the evening after coming back from the bar downstairs with her friend and going: "I have never heard so many people call each other the n-word in my life."  Quite frankly if I ever see a convention of pimps and hos again, it will be too soon.

Now it was also prom night so everyone I shared an elevator with either had a cane or a suit on, and that suit was either navy or purple.  At least the insulation was good -- I didn't hear any of that going on -- if you know what I mean and I know you do so don't lie about it.  The rooms are well-appointed if not a tad small but this is one of like 2 nice-ish hotels in the entire city so I'll give it a break on that one.  Nothing really went wrong except trying to get here, which does suck especially at night.

Also, thanks to the restaurant people for when my friend and I (we were about 13ish at the time) for letting us get breakfast without batting an eye.  Also in the morning my crazy mother complained about the bar or something closing early and among other things they gave us a discount and quite a few starpoints after we unloaded our problems.  Not a bad hotel, and if you absolutely POSITIVELY must stay in Sacramento, try here.  Or the Hyatt.  If the player's ball is in town definitely the Hyatt.  Unless you're into that kind of thing.

I had a last minute meeting in Sacramento and the Sheraton was next door to my client.  As Sheratons go, it was fine.  The bell staff was courteous and efficient.  The front desk staff was helpful and very accommodating at check in.  We were upgraded to the club floor which was nice.  The room at the club level was an average Sheraton room.  Not cramped.  A small sitting area with a large window overlooking the city.  The one complaint I had was the sink.  It wasn't until the late evening that we realized that it took forever to drain.  Given that we were leaving the next day and we were half dressed at the time of discovery, we did not call the front desk.  Everything else in the room worked fine though.

The club level lounge staff was very helpful and accommodating.  I was talking to the bartender and he offered to call a restaurant we were talking about to see if they could fit us in.

We decided to grab a quick dinner at the hotel's restaurant, Morgan's.  Pretty marginal for a Sheraton restaurant.  We ordered the Caesar's salad with anchovies on the side and the white anchovies were doused in vinegar.  The chicken spring rolls we ordered were deep fried like egg rolls.  I wouldn't eat at the hotel restaurant again.

Room service was very good.  They have a 30 minute delivery or it's free policy.  I thought it was hilarious.  The food friggen arrived 27 minutes later.  We had lunch the next day and I was a bit shocked they charge $16 for a single crab cake.  It wasn't that big a crab cake.  Hey, I'm used to paying a premium when it comes to room service but this seemed out of whack.  The chicken wings were awesome though.  A kind of spicy that I had never tasted on chicken and very crispy.

I will probably stay there again because of the proximity to my client but will definitely eat outside the hotel.

Four stars because Sheraton welcomes dogs and their owners. What would I have done without the Sheraton during our 3-day stay since we needed to bring our Desi in tow? They gave us a room at the end of the wing on the 20th floor with a smashing view.  The accommodations were more than satisfactory (except they were working on the pool-- it was closed).  There was a cute, cushiony nook with a window where the sun poured in all day long.  I sat there with my book, and Desi curled up at my feet enjoying the rays.  Overall, a great experience at the Sheraton Grand. : )

We got upgraded to a corner suite.  That pretty much says it all.  Our room was great -- lots of windows, natural light, views of Sacramento, huge bed, spacious in general, and the bathroom was enormous and stocked with Bliss products (I love how they smell!).  We ordered room service for breakfast and the eggs and sausage were super tasty.  They served REAL sausage, like wurst.  It was thick and juicy, not scrawny like the microwavable kind.  They did serve it a little earlier than our requested time and we were still asleep but kudos to the server for knocking for 5 minutes until we woke up and not giving up on us.

I stayed here a few years ago and then again a few weeks ago - this time for a conference next door.  The hotel is very nice and the service is very attentive.  It's got a nice location just blocks from the capitol and right next door to the convention center.  On the down side, it's a little bit pricey (although sometimes you can get a real steal of a deal online), and the rooms are a tad on the small side for such a nice (and expensive) hotel.  Oh, and the parking ain't included either - you've got to pay $13 a day to park in the garage across the street, but I guess it's downtown so I shouldn't gripe too much.

3.5 stars

the first room reeked of smoke on a non-smoking floor.  the next room was far better and bigger as it was a corner room with two large windows with accompanying window seats.

big bathroom with bliss toiletries

$13/day to park (a bit high, no?)

my first impressions...

Clearly they throw around the term "grand" pretty loosely in Sac.....I've stayed here a few times for work, and it was ok.  They have crammed some big beds into some small rooms.  I like a King size bed, but I also need room around the bed to frolic! The prices can vary widely for the same room based on what's going on in the convention center. It's walking distance from a liquor store and several restaurants.  I used the valet, and they were pretty quick.  The club floor offers yummy snacks, try to get upgraded!  There is wi-fi in the lobby, and theoretically in the rooms.  I did have some problems with the in room Internet, and the staff is hit or miss in addressing guests' complaints.  This is one of the better properties in Sac, because they have the comfy Sheraton beds......but it's still Sac and their prices are high for the market.

Pretty decent, expensive!!!!! Food is OK, the servers in the restaurant weren't paying much attention....but overall presention and taste pretty good.

Lobby and public space is very cool....clean and well kept. Biggest drawback is the price.

I love love love this hotel. I try and stay here everytime I stay in Sacramento. The rooms are always very nice and clean and the service is excellent. The lobby seems to be quite a little hot spot these days and is often crowded with people from the hotel as well as locals just stopping by for a drink. They have valet, garage and street parking. If you park on the street though beware of trees and bird poop. Had to have my car professional cleaned three times before I got it all off. Good lord. If you are a workout fanatic they have a gym in the hotel but the local 24 hour fitness is just blocks away. I'll be going again, definitely.

"deluxe bath amenities" - small soap, no special brand of toiletries e.g. bliss, etc that they have at other hotels

bathtub was depressingly shallow. (like 15 inches?)  I like to soak in hotel bathtubs, part of getting away from the city, shower-only life. the tub was mainly to catch shower water.

parking strange- across the street, with no connecting bridge. $13 for one night/2 day self-park.  Valet option but I wanted to save $$$.

big desk, big bed. clean.

disappointing. expected more from a "grand" sheraton

Great location though, right across from convention center
