30 reviews for Sheraton Gateway Hotel
If you're looking for a spot to rest your head that is conveniently located near LAX. The Sheraton is it. You can't go wrong it's literally one of the last hotels before the airport entrance.
i've been missing a lot of flights lately. So this time around I wanted to be sure that my friend and I would be right next to the action without having to actually sleep at the airport. It was a good decision.
There are so many hotels located near LAX they might as well put up some casinos and make it like Las Vegas. I thought Sheraton would just be a run of the mill standard corporate hotel (which it is) but it is also well kept, has a friendly staff, upgraded rooms, and very unexpectedly comfortable beds! Considering it's geographic location near the airport it was safe for me to assume we would be hearing a lot of air traffic, but no sound could be heard from the outside.
Now that's a hotel you wouldn't mind having a layover in.
While I have never spent a night here, I spent more time at this hotel than most. The only time I've seen the inside of one of the rooms is when we would book a room to work in during multi-day negotiations. My work uses this hotel for meetings where we have folks flying in from other parts of the country. It is so much more convenient than to rent cars for everybody and have them drive down to Long Beach.
Zoom, I pulled up to the valet. He smiles and hands me my ticket. He knows me now so he doesn't ask how long I will be. They've always took good care of my car, never any door dings and never had to wait too long. I go through the glass doors and up to the second floor where the conference rooms are. I say hello to folks as I go walk down the hallway, hell sometimes my work will have 4 or 5 meetings going on at the same time here. I walk into my conference room- everything is as it should be. The coffee, tea and other morning refreshments are in the corner. The seats are arranged properly - classroom style for presentations or facing inwards toward the middle for discussions. The proper audio visual equipments are in place - LCD projector, easel and pad, wireless signal, and extra 110v outlets etc. We are ready to start!
The meeting is proceeding well. Then a discrete knock on the door gets my attention. I look at my watch and give the person at the door a nod. Right on time, they are setting up for lunch. Now, other than at the main dining room most hotels serve pretty crummy food, not here. I'm not saying I'd personally pay the prices they charge to feed us during meetings but price aside the food is always pretty good, I especially like their tortilla soup.
I have had the opportunity to eat in their main dining room. The food is very good and not too expensive. In fact, I think their Black Angus burger would rival any in LA. So for you burger lover, you should give the Sheraton LAX a try.
Anyway, meeting days are always long. So I have always appreciated their efficient valet service at the end of the day. They pull up, I get in and zoom I outta there!

Stayed again, would stay again. The club level was closed when I came by - they said it was being renovated. I am hoping its a little better than the old one, as the room was essentially a spare hotel room with different furniture.

Same review, same comments. Great staff, glad I asked for a room on the club floor (15th floor).… Read more »
I travel over 100 nights a year for business and was recently upset that I had to switch from Marriott to Starwood. The valet service is fast, and I completely recommend it vs. the self parking, since it is down an alley and not visible...if you are traveling alone, just pay for valet for safety sake.
The beds were very comfortable and after reading a few reviews that stated this place wasn't clean, I was pleasently surprised to find it was very clean. The concierge loungue is sub par...especially compared with what other chains are doing these days.
You can certainly hear the planes, so turn on the fan before bed.

I have stayed here since November for work and I'm not the kind to complain too much about hotels, but this probably one of the worst hotels I've had to stay at for business travel. Don't be deceived by their renovated lobby ... stay there long enough and you can see right through that.
My patience has been tested too often that I'm really tempted to distance myself from my colleagues and stay somewhere else (despite all the points, etc).
Here are some issues you will encounter at Sheraton LAX if you plan to stay here:
- No hot water for morning showers; they claimed they've fixed their plumbing issues but it's really on a room by room basis. I've had this issue every 2 weeks in the last 2 months
- Long waits for elevator; one of the few places where you have to press the elevator button on both sides and wait and see which side comes first
- Valet is slow and inefficient; for example, it took them 10 minutes to get me change for tips this morning
- TV remote isn't really synced to the tvs and so it takes forever to change channels; also, the layouts absolutely suck in the suites and you can never watch TV while in bed
As a platinum member, you think they'd be a bit more accomodating but rarely do I get an apology for these mishaps. Service is sub-par ... the only redeeming factor is the SPG lounge. The people at breakfast and the late afternoon are really nice.
One of Starwood's worst properties ...
I recently attended a professional conference at the Sheraton Gateway, and this review concerns only the food that was served in the Grand Ballroom for the lunch banquet.
Hey, I've been to dozens of these conferences over the years and I've eaten more than my fair share of the rubber chicken. It's almost always terrible, no matter where you are, but I have to say that the plate they put down in front of me at this event was the worst I've ever seen.
The chicken was okay, but it was laying on top of some sort of weird...polenta? ...grits? WTF? All I know is that the sh*t was thick, orange and had flecks of green in it...and it was completely inedible. Seriously, not a single person at our table touched it. I mustered up some courage and I took a little taste. It was like a cross between playdough and wallpaper paste. The stuff stiffened up pretty quickly, too. By the end of the meal, it looked like a vomit-colored hockey puck. No one could figure out exactly what it was made from, thus, I dubbed it "Soylent Orange".
There were some shriveled green beans and a few cooked carrot sticks on the plate. Dessert was some sort of berry shortcake served in a champagne flute. The best thing I can say about the food is that it didn't give me diarrhea.
Thank God there was a Starbucks in the lobby. I usually despise Starbucks, but at least I found something normal, predictable and edible there: a muffin and a white chocolate mocha.
a) $170 a night and you get to use the service elevators!
Are you kidding me?
b)Self parking is inconvenient
c) bar is super nice
d)beds are plush (with a faux croc red leather headboard! w00t!), rooms spacious (not so the bathrooms).
e) Starbucks in the lobby! Wooohoooo!
f) Awesome service
g) pretty lobby
h) no wi-fi. $10.95 for internet from a cable? what a joke!

Mmm, I don't really get to pick where I stay sometimes, so I'll be back for sure. It's not the worst place to stay - but it's not really up to par!

I stayed here for 5 days. Its a pretty classy hotel. valet parking is $25/ night. This is located close to lax. Its a great spot if you want to leave right away for your flight and its close to santa monica, marina del ray, sunset, beverly and downtown. Also, inside of this hotel is the one of the best steak restaurant in LA. The room is pretty big and the room doesnt have any problems. Actually the rooms looks brand new. Unlike other hotels that it has some cracks on the walls. I would stay here again...
Pros: decor was nice, spacious rooms, comfortable beds, free shuttle to/from the airport that runs 24 hours.
Cons: small bathroom, lack of outlets throughout the room, bathtub was all scuffed up and drained too slowly, room service was grossly overpriced (it normally is, but $14 for 5 yucky pot stickers is absurd), elevators were not working properly so we had to use the service elevators quite a few times.

Nothing original to add, It's all been covered by others. Today marks my 50th night in a Starwood property. That makes me a platinum member and I still can't even make yelp Elite, and I thought SPG had high standards.
Pros: close to the airport (which can also be a con). Quiet rooms, Excellent beds, clean, spacious and nicely decorated. Great lobby.
Cons: Too far from the fun, a little on the expensive side for an airport property. Shula's as their main restaurant.

I attended a Learning Tree training session here. Very nice room facilities. The daily refreshments and food cart was great. The environment was very comfortable.
If you attend a conference here, be prepared to pay $11 a day for parking... but you wont care because your company should be picking up the tab.

Ok, straight up, we only paid $67 a night (before taxes, etc). I love you priceline! So, to get a corner room on the top floor of the hotel is pretty damn sweet. I loved the bed. It was super plush and comfy. Like other reviews, it is true that valet parking is costly and SLOW, changing a channel using the remote is unbelievably slow, and the bathrooms do need to be remodeled. However, my overall stay was nice and I would definitely stay here again (for $67/night).
(we stayed for a night here b/c our flight was delayed by 14hrs at LAX. everything was paid for, so i am only doing a review based all on services.)
despite the unfortunate news & the stress caused it made it almost impossible for anyone to make me in better mood, but everything went possibly so well that by the time we were leaving for the airport again, i was feeling happy, relaxed, well-rested & well-fed.
i had a full lunch at the buffet lounge as well as breakfast before we left, and a nice dinner at the very nice steak house (embarrassingly with jeans that had holes in them bc that is all i had at the time). everything was quick, delicious, and top of the line service!
the interior design was like of a boutique hotel, which is very trendy right now, with chic, modern, bold-colors against gray & black colors. i like it. it smells & feels more new and you really feel good being there. the room was very modern & pretty too.
Parking: POOR (pay either $23 for valet, or $13 for self park in non-affiliated parking lot behind hotel on next block).
Internet: Pay $10 for 24 hours, must be connected. No wireless in room. Can access free wireless in lobby.
Location: Great
Elevators: Guess the primary ones have been broken or maintainanced for 1+ years (other guest told me). Have to use freight elevators at 4 star hotel? Hmm...And they didn't tell me this when I checked in. People are always waiting at the elevators wondering why it's been 5 minutes or more.
Beds: Perfect.
Bathrooms: Could use some upgrades.
View: Beautiful. Lights everywhere.
Gym: Good. It's 24 hours, but not all machines are functioning (kind of like the elevators.
Staff: Great. Everyone I encountered on my 3-night stay was excellent.
Restaurant: Not so great. Ambiance good, but that's about it.
Overall: 3 stars...I got a good night's rest, but felt like there were some inconveniences and charges for everything....which isn't so great for business travel.
What a LOVELY hotel!!! Check in/check out was extremely easy. Plus, this hotel is conveniently located by LAX.
The best part of this hotel.... the BEDS. Oh my goodness. It is so plush and the pillows are like clouds you melt into. The moment I laid down, I fell asleep instantly and slept like a baby. I could tell the sheets had a decently high thread count. They also have BLISS products (shampoo, conditioner, lotion) which made my hair feel so soft.
The only thing I didn't like was how parking is behind the hotel, across the street. It's about $13/day to park there. I'm not sure if there are in & out privileges.

When I drove to this beast of a Sheraton, I was very intimidated by the smog-stained exterior and difficult parking. However, I decided to park valet for the convenience and was not disappointed by the polite service. Check in was very easy, and I was able to upgrade to a corner suite for only $50 !!
The room itself was nice and clean, but a little worn (that's why I gave it only a 4/5). The bathroom was also clean but has seen its share of visitors. There was a constant drone from airplanes, but that's what happens when you're at a hotel next to the runway.
Room service was very fast, although they did forget one of the items I requested.
I would recommend staying at this hotel if you need to be near LAX for a flight (they also have a shuttle), since it is one of the top ones around and you can find a great deal on-line !

A couple friends where staying here this weekend. Apparently Starwood is having a promotion where you can earn an extra 5,000 points by staying at this particular hotel so they are flying here for the weekends to build up their points.
I didn't notice the planes so I guess the sound proofing must be decent.
It is located just a few blocks from LAX and they have a free shuttle that runs from the hotel to the terminals.

This high rise hotel is only 5 minutes away from the airport. It's an easy free shuttle ride driven by a hotel employed driver from baggage claim to the front lobby. Within minutes you'll be relaxing at the lobby bar sipping martini's by the piano starring out into the plant filled courtyard planning your visit in LA.
And when you have to catch that early flight out of LAX, you can grab a latte at the lobby's Starbucks while waiting for the shuttle to deliver you to your airline's ticketing and check in counters.
(I have to admit, this was my only experience at the hotel - catching the shuttle from and to the airport, but hey, I wasn't caught taking advantage of their free bus service!)

I stayed here with my mom last year and this time, my brother's family stayed. They lost a star with me because when my brother checked in, they informed him that the reservation had been cancelled. Now who in their sane mind would do that right before having to hop on a flight back to Asia? Needless to say, my brother, the international traveler, quietly told the girl that he could throw a fit right about now, but he's extremely tired and wanted her to see what she could do. He being a Starwood Preferred Customer and all finally got what he wanted. The girl had informed him that they were completely sold out, yet, when she went to the back, came back and said they had only one room left, a smoking room. After a few minutes, another girl came and helped out on the computer and gave him a non-smoking room. To me, that meant that there were more than one room available so they were lying.
The property is nice, very modern and chic, trendy decor in tune with a 4-5 star establishment. However, the lack of communication, training, information, whatever you want to call it of the front desk staff was just really unnecessary. Either they were snooty or DOH! Take your pick.

Convenient location for getting onto 105 E/405 S. 105's just down the road. Concierge lounge on the 15th floor has breakfast from 6am - 10am and little snacks (won't bother humiliating myself with my French spelling of 'whore doves') from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
It also has a great view right onto the airport, so while drowning myself in oatmeal I can watch planes burn some rubber.
Valet staff is very friendly and efficient.
Room service is hugely overpriced. $3 extra for delivery plus 18% gratuity already added...so don't bother adding extra tip on that. A menu dinner item that's listed as $18 will easily end up costing $30 with all the add-ons and taxes.
Gym/work-out room pretty decent. Treadmills and bike machine thingies have a tv attached, so you can watch Law & Order CI or Walker, Texas Ranger while trying to kill your flab. Free weights available too, but I never bothing taking them to my room.
Great place for a business stay. If I were on vacation I wouldn't pay $24 for parking (valet parking). I actually considered self-parking on my first stay here, but the parking area's half a mile away from the hotel and it's a little dark and sketchy. And this *is* LA, so ... valet parking it is. Thank you, [insert company name] for paying for my safety!
The hotel has a StarBucks right inside the lobby, so you can replenish those calories you managed to run off in the gym.
Rooms are very clean. The higher the floor level you get onto, the more little luxuries you get.... better shampoos, nicer carpeting, a bathrobe.

i stay here at least 3 times a year when i go down south for conferences. checking in and out is always a breeze, and the staff is great in accomodating any needs you might have.
the beds are VERY plush! I always have a good night sleep there. the rooms are big and include most of the amenities you'll find at most other hotels.
in the lobby there's a starbucks, a shula's steakhouse, and two other restaurants. the bar at shula's is always packed whenever i go there, and it's usually on a weekday!
there's a carl's junior, a subway, and a wallgreens within a block of the hotel. in the back there's a small little liquor store that has your basic necessities, and cost almost 90% less than what the hotel offers.

We ended up staying here after being grossed out by the hotel where we had made reservations.
What a difference $20 makes!
The room was immaculate, and nicely decorated.
It also had one the most comfy beds I've ever slept in!
Where they kind of stick it to you is the parking. It was $13 for self park, and $23 for valet! Crazy!!!!
We obviously chose the self-park, and it took forever to get out of there. They only had one person working the pay window.
Other than that, great place. I would definitely stay here again!
I came here for a conference and ate the brassiere. This place was great: it was really close to the airport. Although the hotel offered free coffee in the lobby, there was a starbucks right there too.
But the Brassiere, that's where they serve their breakfast buffet. It looked very typical continental fare. I ordered from the menu. I had the Eggs Benedict. Wow, it was good and I was impressed. Most of the food was organic. The Canadian bacon was free range. Even the hollandaise sauce tasted like they made it and not from a dry mix.
If I was someone traveling through town and needed to be close to the airport, I definitely would stay here.
sweet beds and pretty good interior design of the rooms.
i like the hook near the bathroom across from the closet. i hang everything i need for the next day on it. (yes i am finicky)
the staff is very helpful and friendly. the concierge has lots of good suggestions.
the shuttle van doesn't come often enough, so if need be you can walk to the hotel, about a 10 minute walk.
surprisingly, the pool gets a good amount of sun. the food at the bar isn't bad. you can request chicken strips. the chocolate lava cake is good for hotel food.

Not a bad place. I am staying here for work and am on week 5 right now. Spend good amount of time at the bar downstairs and the bartender now knows me. Oh well, at least I don't have to explain all the time what I want to drink! Reasonable fitness center that is PACKED in the morning. It's like any other hotel.

i got stranded one night in Los Angeles (never fly through Chicago, especially during the winter!) a few months ago after missing the last plane to Monterey.
they were the only hotel with a room available (i even called motel 6... it was getting to that point). the reservation staff was able to calm down an angry asian girl and hooked me up with a nice ass room at the government rate. the free shuttle was very convenient -- no hassles getting to and from and to the airport. the front desk was able to supply me all of my essential liquids (damn the TSA and their arbitrary no liquids on carry on luggage rule that finally got relaxed!) that somehow made it onto a plane towards home sweet home without me.
all in all, a pleasant experience. they provided everything a person stranded in LAX would ever need.

Good value for the hotel. The Sheraton Gateway is newly renovated so everything is new and modern. The staff is super courteous. We stayed here during a "girls only!" trip. Pretty spacious for 4 girls with 2 double beds. This location is right next to LAX and not too far from all the places we wanted to go to. The reason why I chose this hotel over all the others? There's a Starbucks in the lobby.
Well, maybe a few of you have already figured this out, I for one had not until this stay, that a weekend in LA is best spent closer to where you want to be. For more clarification on that, we booked a room from one of the online discount places and 'saved' around 75.00 per night... problem being is that there is no savings at all. In that the taxi regime will easily eat up any savings that you will have because there is absolutely NOTHING around or near LAX. Also, LA public transportation blows, being from the San Fran area. The lobby is nice and everyone is attentive, sort of a modern art deco decor with some hints of French furnishings. The room was appealling, in that, it was clean and the mix of colors was nice. Not so nice, the peeling resurfaced bath tub. Also, don't forget to use your 'do not disturb' as housekeeping starts around 8:30am and knocks pretty loud. Looking for Wifi, oh sure its here, but at 11.00 per day extra charge.... Nazi bastards. The place must also be very poorly insulated, as our AC unit was constantly kicking on and off, and it was a very temperate day. On the final day of our stay, we had breakfast at their restaurant.... nice... clean... beautiful view of the pool.... but 15 fucking dollars for an omelet (well to put it in perspective it did have toast) and 4.00 for some god damn maxwell house coffee... fuck you Sheraton. Next time I will spend the money to stay in Santa Monica. I realize that hotel food is a little pricey, but that was absolutely ridiculous. If it were not for the charge for wifi and the outrageous coffee and omelet prices... three stars, but the nickel and dime for the other stuff.... 2 stars.

Very nice modern hotel. The room was nice and clean. My only gripe is the heater/ac in the room. It was very loud and hard to adjust room temperature cause the draft is pointed to only one part of the room.
Made a quick pit at this hotel by the airport. I gave it four stars, but maybe it should've gotten less. I stay at the Starwood hotels alot, and this location was just ok. Very close to LAX however.
