8 reviews for Sheraton Braintree Hotel
Reading through the other reviews, I'm not really sure why there are multiple mentions of how dirty this hotel is. It seemed pretty clean to me - definitely not spanking new but definitely par for the course for an average hotel. Sure, the wallpaper in the bathroom was a little old and falling off in places, but the beds were clean, and the carpet seemed fine to me. The hotel's exterior is kitschy and fun - half brick castle, half Tudor style.
My friend and I stayed for $89/night. I'd say that the price matched the overall experience.
Pros:
- Inexpensive
- Pretty clean
- If you're driving, easy access to Boston
- Big mall across the street (didn't go but looked nice)
Cons:
- No free continental breakfast. They have breakfast inside the hotel, but the quality of the food doesn't match the money ($12 or $20 depending on what you get, I think.)
- Shuttle to the T's red line ("Quincy Adams" stop) leaves only every hour. They'll pick you up at the station on your way back to the hotel, but it usually takes a few minutes to get there, and if it's nighttime, you're stuck waiting at a semi-deserted location.
I'd actually give my overall experience three stars because waiting for the shuttle to leave in the morning and pick us up at night was a hassle (the ride from the outer edges of the Red Line to the heart of Boston is a bit long, too), but I wanted to bump up the average rating for this hotel a bit (deserves better than 1.5 stars), and I think it would have been a solid 4-star experience if we had come with a car. I'd recommend the hotel to anyone who's able to get an equally good deal and who will be driving into the Boston area.
This is really a tough call. There are a couple of things that pull one direction or the other as far as quality, cleanliness, convenience, etc. I was here for the MMA fights for the second time and they did a very good job again with the venue.
-The lobby: clean, spacious, friendly staff, small shop for necessities and souvenirs.
-The hallways leading to the rooms: absolutely atrocious. The ceilings are low so it gives a very cramped feeling. The carpet is musty and old; looks like it's never been cleaned or changed.
-The rooms: nothing very remarkable; average.
-Extras: TGIF's is attached and is open late.
This is definitely a no-frills hotel, but it doesn't deserve a "1 star" rating. I think it's been judged a little harshly because of their conference facilities.
This place is nice in the fact that it's old and has personality. The lobby is very classy, you feel like you're walking into an old chateau or something. There's that old victorian house smell that emanates the halls (smells like old books and wood) but not in the rooms! thank god!
There's also a little convenience shop in the lobby for drinks, snacks or things you may have forgotten, this maybe a plus depending on how u look at it since most hotels offer complimentary toothpaste, toothbrush and crap where as here they sell it.
The rooms are about what you would expect from a chain hotel. Nothing to complain about there. You should be fine.
***This part really annoyed me:
Had to call my credit card company a few times because they were having issues with my card and I was charged something like $1.95 per call to a TOLL FREE NUMBER!
THAT'S $1.95 EVERYTIME I CALLED!
This place is a 3-star review
minus 1 for charging me for 1-800 number calls
I dont understand the negative reviews on here about this place. I had 50 people from ireland staying here this weekend which meant i spent a lot of time there as well as sleeping there on my wedding night. it has everything that you could want with shuttles, a bar, a restaurant and gift shop. The rooms aren't 5-star but more than OK for the great group price that we got. Close to the South Shore Plaza and the red line. What more could you want?
I was here attending class. It was really cramped. I had trouble getting in and out of my chair when I was sitting at the beginning of the row. My chair was basically neck to neck with table leg.
There was practically no heat in the corridor. Half the bathroom sinks don't work.
So unfortunately for me, the week that the husband had to go to Boston on business conveniently coincided with an ENORMOUS convention going on that swallowed up practically every downtown hotel room. Thus, his travel department banished us to this joint. I should say upfront that the staff working here were all very helpful within their constraints. However, this property is heinous. The decor is outdated, the walls and doors are paperthin, odd smells follow you everywhere. Our room was tiny, it reeked beyond belief of cigarettes, the towels were scratchy, the shower drain had mildew encircling it, and the bed was totally NOT the much-praised Sheraton "Sweet Sleeper" bed. Apparently JetBlue puts its incoming Boston crews up here, and all I have to say is: UNIONIZE!
However, this hotel is home to the hottest place on a Braintree Saturday night: TGI Friday's. Woo.
This place blows. I've been here for the past three weeks. The first room I had was ridiculously cold, and the thermostat was broken. The second and third rooms were decent, but the elevator was broken on my second stay, and on my third (current) stay, the roofs were leaking from all the rain and they had buckets everywhere in the hallways to catch the leaking water. The website boasts two dining areas, a restaurant and a bar. The bar and restaurant are actually one and the same. At the end of the room is the bar. Its funny though that they both have separate entrances (from the same hallway) but in the inside it's just one big room. I'm at the bar pretty regularly and the bartender never remembers me even though I generally leave pretty large tips (30-50%).
What a dump. If you're on business in the Braintree area there are few choices for full service hotels. Unfortunately, you're better off staying at a Courtyard style hotel and plan your meals out. The Sheraton Braintree was the Sheraton Tara back in the 1970's, built to resemble a castle. We used to joke and call it the Sheraton "Terror." After years of neglect or complacency, the hotel has deteriorated into a house of horrors. The carpet in the hallways are stained with a tar like substance. The carpet in the room was just as bad, stained and threadbare. The whole place has an odd odor and it's different in different areas of the hotel. There's a thermostat on the wall, but it's all for show, you still have to use the controls on the unit itself. Good luck trying to balance between too cold and too warm. It also adds a moist musty smell to the room. Room service should only be reserved to shear acts of desperation. For $24 you get a tasteless frozen supermarket burger with a rubbery slab of cheese like substance, fries and a soda. The hotel's location couldn't be any more harrowing, Forbes Road is packed night and day with experienced Boston drivers, you will be hit if you try to turn left into the hotel's main entrance, drive past the main entrance and use the back lot to enter. The drivers from hell are waiting to turn onto Route 37 and will block access to the hotel at any cost. If you have an appointment in Quincy/ Boston, you're in for a terrifying adventure. The entrance to I-93 North is less than 200 yards from Rt37's on ramp. The exit for I-93 is the left most lanes of the highway. You will miss the exit unless it's 3 in the morning. If you choose to walk over to the South Shore Shopping Center. Remember, the WALK signal is a suggestion ONLY. Drivers will honk at you and drive up within inches of you to make you move. Once you get over there, there's mall food, may be that $24 burger isn't so bad after all.
