Review from Irene W.
Carmichael, CA
This is my favorite Indian restaurant. The food is always perfectly spiced (not at all salty like other reviewers claim), the decor is elegant and the ambiance subdued and relaxing with a quiet soundtrack of Indian music floating in the background, and the staff has been nothing but sincerely kind and accommodating with their service during every visit. We typically opt for the buffet, as ordering a la carte is a bit pricey for everything we want to eat (although the food and portions you receive are worth the cost if you're not a fan of what they offer at the buffet), and they seem to offer the same amount of dishes for both lunch and dinner (usually about eight items, some Basmati rice, a condiment bar, and a dessert).
I'm not a vegetarian, but I prefer their veggie dishes because they challenge my perceptions about how flavorful and satisfying vegetarian dishes can be. I'm especially partial to the Navratan Korma, a dish consisting of nine different veggies simmered in spices and a nut sauce (translated literally as "nine gems"). It's rich and slightly sweet with a subtle heat that creeps up on your taste buds. I also love their saag paneer (creamed spinach with cheese), Dal Makhani (lentil curry), and channa masala (chickpea curry). My boyfriend's favorite dish is the Chicken Makhani; he gets it every time and likes to eat the remaining sauce with naan. Speaking of naan, theirs is fantastic - pillowy-soft, slightly chewy, and slightly crisp around the edges. Pretty perfect, in my opinion. They have so many more delectable offerings, and I've honestly never had anything I didn't like there.
For the reviewers who complain about the hygiene of the wait staff, they must be smelling themselves, or maybe they just like making mildly racist blanket statements, because I've never detected even a hint of body odor from any of the servers in the dozen or so times I've been here, and their clothes are always clean and pressed. Maybe they didn't like the fact that the waiters tend to generally be reserved and not excessively chatty or annoying like waiters from (insert local family restaurant), which is a something I appreciate when I'm trying to have a good meal and conversation with whomever is accompanying me to the restaurant. I'd rather know about my friend's day than the life story of some random server who feels obligated to talk to me to elicit a larger tip (which never works for me). The servers know when to come by to refill your beverage or to bring more fresh naan, and they don't waste your time with idle, meaningless chitchat in the process.
I can't say enough about this place. If you're seeking out Indian food for the first time and are looking for something that is accommodating and gentle to both the Western palette and dining experience but isn't "Americanized" Indian food, this would be a great place to visit. I'd recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala as a first-time dish - not too spicy, but spiced well with large chunks of white meat chicken. You could always ask the owner for suggestions, too - he's usually there, extremely friendly, and very knowledgeable about his own offerings. I haven't been to any other Indian restaurants in Sacramento, but I've never really felt the need to since we have such a great one less than two miles down the road :) -

Went here with the family for a Friday night dinner and left really disappointed. My wife has a gluten intolerance and Sher-E-Punjab was listed as having a friendly gluten-free menu. When we asked the waiter for the gluten free menu he brought her the same menu he handed me. ???
Speaking of the waiter, we were one of three parties in the restaurant on a Friday at 6:30, and the service was positively GLACIAL! We waited and waited to order, and then we waited, and waited, and waited for our food.
My wife had goat curry that she found to be okay, and the kids split a lamb biryani that was not too bad. A little spicy for kids, but they soldiered through it. The naan was crummy. Stale, cold, and burnt is not a good combo.
I made the titanic mistake of going for the dinner buffet. I think they just left the same crap out from lunch and doubled the price. Nice. There were four sad, dried pieces of tandoori chicken on some limp onions to choose from. The lamb curry had a half inch of grease floating over it, and the vegetable dishes were bland and mushy. Gross.
The service was the slowest I've ever experienced, the food mediocre, and the prices out of touch with the product. Give it a miss. -

Most horrible experience ever! This review is being written by an Indian himself so you can mark my word.
The food was so stale and tasteless that it was the first time in my life that I walked out with an empty stomach in a buffet. My Girl friend ordered A-la-carte and she said that tasted awful too. 1-star is too much for this. -

Here's the rub, folks, I have yet to find a great Indian Buffet that serves buffet for both lunch and dinner. Sher-E-Punjab is the only place near me that does. Anybody have any other suggetions, near Fair Oaks/Carmichael/Citrus Heights, please let me know.
So , the run down on the place that used to house a Lion's:
The food is good, borderline "really good". The fresh naan delivered to the table was top notch, and everything I tried was good.
Kudos for the dish that wasn't Chicken Tikka Masala, but tasted just like Chicken Tikka Masala. I forgot what it was called.
All-you-can-drink-Chai with the buffet! Lovin' it!
The service is friendly and efficient enough. They have a TV with Bollywood films on a constant loop.
Okay, the gripe: The cost. The dinner buffet is $14.99. Ouch! I'm sorry, but that's a bit steep for Indian buffet. I mean, the dinner buffet is $5 more than lunch? Why?
Okay, maybe I'll come back for lunch (although there are Indian lunch buffets everywhere), but for an Indian buffet dinner, I'll have to keep looking.
Hey, can we get a Naan N Curry in Sacto? -

Always wanted to try Indian food. One of my co workers suggested this place. Told me its the best! I took my sis with me. The place was empty. We were the only two pple there! Inside was kinda dark. The waitor that seated us smelled real bad. We did the all you can eat. There wasn't very much to choose from. The food wasn't the best. The only thing that stood out to me was the nan bread. It was tasty reminded me of a pizza. It had herbs and garlic on it.
Once we left the place...i needed to use the restroom real bad. The food didn't sit well. It gave me a stomach ache. Not sure if it was the curry or what...but no bueno!! Pricey too!! -

YES!! This place is great! Went for lunch buffet and I'm not one to usually eat buffets, but this place was amazing. The naan is delicious and brought fresh to your table and they have a large selection on the buffet.
Try it. You won't be sorry
9.99 for lunch
14.99 for dinner -
Review from Sachi T.
I had a friend whose strategy for the Sher-E-Punjab lunch buffet was to eat the first plate, then take a series of deep breaths so that her diaphragm would push her food down and she could go back for seconds and thirds.
It's that good.
The chai is amazing. Whoever said that all good tings gotta come to an end never has neverending chai at Sher-E-Punjab . My favorite is the dessert, though. I mean I'll eat my fair share of lunch buffet, but seconds and thirds for dessert.
Chicken tikka masala, a must. -
Review from Carl I.
For the people commenting about the food wasting, I'm not sure why you'd take heaps of a food you're not sure you'd like. How about trying a smaller portion and seeing if you like it first?
Surely this policy was borne out of someone wasting food. I think I read someone misquoted the sign and said they'd measure 50 percent of the food wasted? WTF?
Anyway, the hot naan (garlic and regular) are bomb. The waiters are friendly and attentive. I actually usually see the same guy a lot. He's always smiling and asking you if you want more naan. I've had the buffet every time I went, and they generally have at least two veggie dishes, several meat dishes (including the obligatory tandoori chicken). They also have papadum every time I go. Sometimes they have egg curry, which is interesting but not a keeper for me.
I love the chicken masala, and the palak paneer myself. The lamb curry does have bones, but if you fish the ladle around in there you can get some meaty pieces. It's really tender and delicious. I guess being a descendant of a Trinidadian helps not put me off to the bones. You just have to eat a little more carefully, but the meat is delicious. :)
This place is generally pretty empty and that's a shame.
As mentioned by others, the Bollywood playing on the TV is pretty entertaining and distracting.
They also have free wifi. The password is posted on a white board as you come in. -

I went on an Indian food spree because of a random craving and tried out a few different places and their all-you-can-eat options to test out the places before ordering a-la carte.
This place brings you hot naan made fresh to your table instead of making a bunch and leaving it under a heat lamp at the buffet. They had saag in the buffet which was great because I love spinach based curries. This place was by far the cleanest and they had the hottest food as well. Good stuff. The ambiance is that of an old steak house or family restaurant of some sort but they make it work. Service was good. Would come here again for sure. -

Fair Oaks, CA
This place is good BUT if you're looking for quality, skip the buffet and order off the menu. The problem with the buffet is that they really dumb down the spices and it's not the freshest. If you order off the menu, the food is amazing. I would highly suggest the Paneer butter masala (If you love cheese, you'll LOVE this!), the Chicken Tikka Masala is wonderful and anything out of the tandoor is amazing. (Try the shrimp!) The garlic naan is amazing but I really love their plain naan. The atmosphere is cool and I love the bollywood movies playing in the background. Plus they deliver so you gotta love that!

I've been going to Sher-E-Punjab for almost 2 years now. I developed a habit of going there almost every weekend; however, I haven't been able to do so for the last 3 months due to my busy schedule.
1) Service - is absolutely phenomenon. I know the owner here. He and his staff are overly friendly individuals. Quick and friendly service (10/10)
2) Food - they serve mostly Punjabi food. The chicken masala is absolutely a must try. Chicken pandoori is just right although I find them dry sometimes.
3) Price - absolutely reasonable. $10.00 for lunch buffet and about $14.00 for dinner buffet. I haven't order anything off the menu but from what I remember, the prices are decent as well.
4) They won the best Punjabi food in the Sacramento County for the past 5 years so you can imagine how good the food is
If you know the owner, you always get the special treat. Jay (the owner) actually walked me through his kitchen and showed me how everything is cooked. He even told me his secrete ingredients for the recipes. If you're ever in town, I strongly recommend you stop by Sher-E-Punjab for some fresh and delicious Indian food :D -

I've never had indian food. My sister suggested this place because she heard so many good reviews about the buffet. I think it was pretty pricey 15.99 all you can eat, but if you can't finish it...they will charge you 50% so you better not take huge portions if you don't know what the hell you're about to put in your mouth.
The place wasn't as busy at 7pm....the staff was friendly, but personally....I don't like to smell the stench of the waiters while I try to eat my food. The floors/carpet was dirty...
The food could have been better for the price.... I did like the nan, Tandori Chicken and the chicken tikimasalalala or whatever you call it. -

This place sucks; 1st- Went there for lunch w a co-worker and the food was not fresh- it tasted like it was made a week before, and 2nd- I had the worst experience there in my entire 17 yrs of dj'n. The owners made it very difficult to work there, stealing my money, and making his workers come steal again then ran back into the kitchen to count it. When confronted, they all lied and didn't return any of it! Assholes ripped me off! I def recommend NOT doing any business with these kinds of bloody crooks!

Our friends suggested this place, if you want to watch Bollywood videos and eat salty food. This is the place for you. This is not the place for us. We had the buffet and it was disappointing. Bland and salty.
The staff was nice enough but didn't make up for the lackluster cuisine.
Next time we will choose the restaurant. -

My fave Indian restaurant. The owner and the servers are always nice and accommodating. It feels like home everytime we visit.
If you're not familiar with Indian food, I would suggest trying their dinner buffet. They have a pretty good selection of vegetarian and meat dishes. I'm not big on vegetables but this is one place I would eat them. I love the vegetables in cashew sauce and their spinach in cream dish. They also have samosas and deep fried vegetable fritters. Food has a lot of flavor.
As for the meat dishes, I really dig the lamb curry. The sauce is tomato and cilantro based. Yum! Also, their chicken masala was good - creamy and it goes really well with the naan.
If you're a fan of garlic like I am, I would ask for the garlic naan instead of plain. Plain is good but you can never go wrong with garlic. It's the best.
They don't have much for desserts. But then again, with all the options you have, who needs dessert? =) -

3 stars because this place was just OK. $9.95 for the buffet. There were quite a few dishes to choose from.
1. The Lamb curry left a lot to be desired. The only chunks of anything in it was pieces of fat, yukky, large pieces of bone with no meat on them.
2. The chicken in a creamy tomato sauce was good but lacked the proper amount of spicing.
3. The Naan was undercooked. Tasted like bread dough, double yukky.
4. The creamed spinach was very good as were the rest of the veggies.
I said 3 stars well take away one star for slow service and the glass table tops were wiped off with a dirty rag and there was food on the chair. Next week will try a different one. Thumbs down here. -

Sher E Punjab is a reliable choice for solid Indian in the Carmichael area. Hell, even the buffet is good, and that's a pretty impressive feat, considering the warmed over glop that passes for buffet food at most other establishments.
The interior was built out of an old Lyon's, now appearing like a Lyon's that has been rehauled by Indian immigrants. (The chairs are especially cool, and note the field hockey stick on one of the kitchen walls.) Try to sit near the wall with the big screen TV looping Bollywood music videos - they are beautiful, beautiful things.
Food. The menu is fairly large, but we always seem to get the buffet, both for the variety and for the reasonable price (9.00 to satisfy all your caloric requirements for the next week, with drinks and naan.) The selection changes daily, but I especially reccomend the tasty aloo ghobi and the chili chicken. The lamb curry is tasty as well, although watch out for finely chopped bones. And the garlic naan is delicious, hot, and pungent - the perfect way to scoop up the remnants of your food. Visit the decent selection of chutney's over by the salad bar and you're good to go. However, avoid the pakoras and samosas- they're way too greasy. If you want extra spice, order off the menu, as the buffet by neccesity is geared towards all those wusses who order everything bland (but the food still tastes good.)
Overall, I dig Sher E Punjab when I'm in the neighborhood and need some good Indian food. And I never pass up a chance to watch Bollywood videos. Ever. -

The food is Punjabi Indian. I've only been here for the lunch buffet, which is pretty darn good. My only complaint is that the buffet food isn't spicy. But, it's buffet food, and they have to make it for everyone. You can always order an entree and ask for it to be nuclear spicy.
The service is good. Your cup will be refilled & the waiters will joke around with you if you frequent here.
Like any good Indian restaurant, there's plenty of vegetarian options. & the gulab jaman is yummy! -

yummy yummy!
Sher-E Punjab is great! First time there was on a Sunday for the dinner buffet. I enjoyed the curried lamb, tandoori chicken, samosas, vegetable pakoras, lentils...... There are about a dozen choices plus a salad bar. Everything is fresh and hot and kept in orb-shaped serving trays.
I heard that you have to pay extra if you leave more than half the food on your plate. But that was not a problem for us.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and its Web site says they are closed on Tuesdays. We paid $13.99 per person (kids meals cost less) for the buffet dinner. It included water and hot chai tea, and generous servings of plain and garlic and parsley naan.
There is a big screen TV playing Punjabi musicals and music videos. The decor is colorful and welcoming. There are booths and tables and an expansive dining room. The service was friendly and prompt.
I really enjoyed my visit to Sher-E Punjab!

Review from K F.
Sacramento, CA
A girlfriend of mine has asked me to introduce her to more ethnic food, and, start with Indian food. I'm always happy when a friend or family member is willing to break out of a rut, but this can be dangerous because you end up being responsible for their dining experience, and should you choose poorly, you get the Awkward Eye and you hear "Well. The vote is in, I don't like Indian food."
Best thing to do is start with something pretty generic, but reliable, and then let them decide they love Indian food, and seek out more and more spice and heat as their tastes mature. All the Indian restaurants near me, in downtown Sacramento, are abysmal and dirty, so I sought out this restaurant because it looked clean. Nothing more.
I was pleasantly surprised to be served a really delicious meal. The place was clean, seemed popular (a steady stream of diners arrived for the buffet), but in keeping with my practice, we ordered off the menu so I could introduce her to fresh items of my choosing.
I ordered vegetable samosas first. The pastry shell was a bit thicker than I'm used to, but it was crisp, very hot (freshly fried), and filled to the brim with potatoes, peas, onion, and seasoned with nutmeg. Two thumbs up. The samosas were sitting aside a small serving of chickpea curry, which was also very delicious, but rapidly cooling. I suspect this may have come off the buffet line, but no matter. Was merely an accompaniment.
I ordered mulligatawny soup, which wasn't the best version I've ever tasted, but was good nevertheless. I thought it interesting this place had at least six different soups to choose from, including mulligatawny (one of my favorites) and pumpkin soup. The soup was very creamy and blended, with only two things for texture: chicken bits, and herbs. No rice or bits of apple as I"m used to. The soup was very tangy and wasn't unlike --- uh -- their pumpkin soup spiced up a bit? It was full of fresh cilantro, so beware if you are a cilantro hater (and I raise my eyebrow in your direction if you are). Good, and fortunately, served hot. I so dislike cold soup.
Next, the Naan. Fresh. Hot. Very lightly buttered. They circulated with Naan at all times, there was no skimping here. Two thumbs up for that, also.
Next, Chicken Tikka Masala. This was charming, actually. Rather than a little stainless steel dish set on the table, they brought it in a small, beat up cauldron which sat above a FRESH burning tealight, which they lit just before they got to the table so as to keep it warm. The sauce, a buttery and spicy version of tomato sauce, was very good. The chicken was boneless cubes, pretty large (a little too large, actually, as it took two bites per cube to eat them).
The only thing which tarnished our experience with this restaurant was the service. It was simply a cultural barrier.
I wasn't eating a dinner entree -- my dinner was the samosa and soup. My friend had the chicken dinner. When I said "I'll have the samosas and soup as my entree" I assumed they understand what I meant -- serve us at the same time.
My items came to the table first. We split of course -- I wanted her to try a samosa. She took a spoonful or two of the soup, as well. Our THREE waiters (the host, someone else who looked in charge, and a lowly waiter who followed them around with naan), hovered and watched us eating, anxiously. For a very long time. I keep eating slowly, hoping her dinner was coming. I couldn't wait -- it was hot soup. Finally I motioned the host over -- he was watching us the most -- and asked him to check on my friend's dinner.
You'd think I'd lifted a haunch and made a rude biological sound. He reared back and stared at me in horror and said "Of COURSE it's ready, Madam. We are simply WAITING for you to conclude FIRST COURSE."
He was so offended that I'd suggested his wait staff was slow, that he made me chuckle. I said, through my chuckle "I'm sorry sir, the appetizers were my ONLY course, we'd like to be served together."
They raced off, and not one, but ALL THREE staff brought out the Chicken Tikka Masala. The host carried the rack with candle. The waiter carried two plates and cutlery. The manager-type person carried the bubbling cauldron of food. All three busied themselves setting this up, removing my soup dishes, and giving me a plate for my portion of HER dinner. We just eyed one another and went with it. I didn't serve myself any, but I did taste it so I could see how it was (very good).
ALL THREE came back over and said "Is everything alright? What is the matter?" I again explained. They looked at us with the awkward eye probably mentally writing off the tip.
That kind of hovering is bad, yes, but they were so proud of of their food and offended that we were upsetting the apple cart, that we made certain we left a large tip. I'll definitely be back, but I'l use the buffet. I just can't take the stress of ordering off the menu. -

it's not bad, a lot of people love it. Pretty standard Indian fare from what I could tell. Sampled chicken tikka masala, basic yellow curry, and aloo patak.
Nothing too spicy.
Prices were a little higher than I expected, but still manageable.
Still feels like a Lyons.
I liked the old Maharani on Broadway better. -

Ok, i dig this place. As far as all you can eat indian buffet's go...i'd have to say it's the best in sacto...at least from what i've had. I usually hit this place up a few times a month.
I wish the spinach dish had that paneer cheese, because that shits the tastiness, it's still f-ing tasty though. Oh yeah, there mango salsa is pretty awesome too.
The staff is awesome...they are all really nice, the one dude that usually brings the naan and drinks needs to be a bit snappier with it though, i have a three diet coke minimum at any meal and he needs to respect that.
I always thought the decorations were pretty nice too...they have some fancy water cups...no plastic here...however...the big ass TV in the middle of the room playing the bollywood movies seems a little out of place...but im not complaining because that shits hella tight.. more girls need to start dressing like princess Leigh and doing song and dance routines while i eat... -

Great food, great service, Bollywood movies, not too expensive and close to my house. The only place I like more in Sac is Udupi.
The best items I've ordered here at the Tandoori Chicken (it's pretty healthy and they throw a ton of lemons in there to squeeze over the chicken), the different flavors of naan and the samosa. Their samosas are the best I've had in Sac. -

I just moved here from the bay area, and I'm a Naan and Curry girl 100%. I love cheap delicious indian food.
Me and my girlfriend came in around 5:30 for dinner.. we were seated and then told to have buffet..so we went with it. They had a good variety of veggie dishes.. as everyone says, the creamed spinach was amazing. I do wish it had paneer in it. the naan was pretty good too. but the rest of the dishes weren't that memorable. The service was really good. no empty water glasses and no empty naan baskets.. I enjoyed the decor as well... and i love the bollywood music videos.. Ill probally eat here a lot more.. -

The food was pretty good and I really dig the decor and movies. It's a shame they don't have more screens for people with their back to the screen. My date had never seen a Bollywood movie, so it was a nice conversation piece.
The service was a little weird, since the we told the guy we were having buffet and then he kept asking us if we wanted to order from the menu since we didn't get up right away. It took forever to bring the bill - I just assumed we were supposed to go to the counter to pay. -

There are a few places I enjoy going to in Sacramento. Sher E Punjab's is one of them, even though I don't always have the time...
I used to go a lot in 2006-2007, sometimes both for lunch and dinner. It's like I lived there when not working. The buffet was consistently good, as was the chai. Even now I try to find excuses to drop by, and thankfully I can.
Here's what I find is good, buffet-wise: the chana massala, aloo gobi, chicken makhni, chicken tandoori, and chai (which is offered as part of the buffet at no extra charge). The lamb curry is rich and flavorful, even though I'm not used to on-the-bone dishes when it comes to that. The curry sauce is especially good when you dip naan into it and take a bite, it seasons the bread just right.
Dinner-wise, I'm a fan of chicken and lamb vindaloo. Sometimes it can be a little too tangy but that depends on the vinegar used. The basmati rice, whether for buffet or dinner, is tasty and, just as with the naan, is good for mixing with whatever meat dish sauce is on the plate. (The lamb vindaloo, btw, is not on-the-bone, which is a plus.)
Overall the place is relaxed and comfortable, it's better when going with friends but going solo is OK as well. if you pick the right booth or table you can zone out while watching various music videos or movie dance scenes that play on the LCD screen mounted on the wall. My one complaint about it is that the booth seats are a little low or something--or maybe I'm too short, I dunno. It feels like I should put some pillows behind me. Hmm, perhaps the tables should be lowered? Oh well, maybe someday. Otherwise, if you don't like the way diner booth seats are then you can pick one of the regular tables with chairs.
All in all I give Sher E Punjab major kudos for quality dishes and making people feel at ease in their establishment. Cheers! -

I was finally able to check this place out after first spotting it last summer on my way to Ancil Hoffman park. For lunch they seemed to have a limited selection of food which is understandable since this place doesn't seem to get very busy during lunch. The service was great, very friendly staff. I loved watching the music videos, especially the rap videos. Too bad they don't have another tv or at least a mirror against the wall for those whose backs are facing the tv.
The two things that stood out for me was their naan and their vegetable pakora. The naan was fresh and dense, not like most Indian restaurants that make it very thin. The pakora was crunchy and not greasy at all. Other than that the rest of the food was okay. Not necessarily the best Indian food I've had in Sac, it's just okay. It's not bad and it's not the best, just in the middle. -

Yum! I went in on a weekend - early evening and tried out the dinner buffet, which had a cost of around $13. I was pleased with the selection of items, as well as the taste and freshness of everything. Granted, the items had probably just been cooked since it was around 5 PM. A waitress kept bring out fresh naan to the tables and it was quite tasty.
Staff was friendly. Will definitely go back if I am in the area. -

I just discovered this place, and I was very happy. I wasn't sure what to order, so I went on-line and it was super easy! I placed my order, and since I work in the same shopping center I just walked over and picked it up. They were very generous. They even gave me an extra drink for free! I took my parents last night and we all decided on trying the buffet so we could have a variety. I am not usually one for buffets but I am happy I tried it. Plenty of vegetarian options. Friendly staff as well.

I'm far from a connoisseur when it comes to Indian food, but I do enjoy curry, palak paneer and naan every now and then.
The ample buffet and affable owner at Sher-E-Punjab entice me to drive all the way to Carmichael from Midtown every now and then.

Whenever I am working in this area I stop here for the lunch buffet. The food is delicious, not too spicy for you fraidy-cats, and the service is friendly. You get hot chai tea and dessert with the buffet. The waiter is attentive with refilling your water, and bringing more Naan (bread) if you need it. They play Bollywood music videos at a low volume, which makes for good entertainment when one is dining alone.

This place has one of the best all-you-can-eat buffets I've ever seen at an Indian restaurant, including various appetizers, vegetarian dishes, and meat dishes -- plus naan, chai, and even dessert. I've never bothered ordering a dish off the menu, because I'll inevitably find plenty I want grazing the food line.
I also like the ambience. They have a couple of TVs on which they play Indian music videos, which are highly entertaining.
Finally, the staff is quite friendly.
The only drawback to this place is, the prices are a little high. Best to come with a hearty appetite if you're going to tackle the buffet so you can be sure you'll get the most bang for your buck. -

Lunch Buffet - Enjoyed the buffet, it;s different from the rest because it has more vegetarian variety esp when they have egg curry. Nan is made to order. Food is kepts in big silver bowls with lids. Quite a selection.
Decor is nice as well -

This place has a pretty decent buffet. My friend Kate introduced me to this place and we went several times when I lived in the area. We sometimes had huge groups and they could accommodate easily. The owners/servers are extremely nice and attentive.
The Bollywood movies/music videos they show are pretty ridic but we loved that about this place. -

Food is pretty good! The big screen tv playing loud music videos has got to go. If I wanted to be abused while I ate, I'd go sit in the middle of the intersection...that may be preferable.
If you're deaf and blind, this is a great place! -

First of all, really great service and nice touch showing the Bollywood films. The staff were all very competent and friendly.
I tried the buffet, and it was not bad but not great either. The selection is pretty small compared to other Indian buffets I've been to.
Here's what I tried:
Lamb Curry: Meh, not too much lamb, but a lot of bones. Curry itself was OK, but not particularly distinctive
Aloo ghobi (sp?): Probably the best dish I tried, although I'm pretty partial to cauliflower and potatoes in general. The cauliflower and potatoes weren't too overcooked
Tandoori chicken: Par for the course in Sacramento I'm afraid, it was QUITE dry and overcooked.
Having the plain and garlic naan brought to the table was a nice touch and they were both quite good. -

The buffet is ok, but the menu items are great.
They serve the best lamb vindaloo I've ever eaten.
The service is good, the employees are all very nice and helpful.
Best indian food in the area in my opinion.
I also enjoyed the bollywood videos playing on the big screen.
