The 5 stars are for the location, view, ambience, setting and view.

I had the Cobb Salad and it was pretty to look at.  The chicken, if it was chicken, was dried out cubes, probably frozen and reheated.  The lettuce a tolerable iceburg but not chopped, more chunked, the dressing - meh - something you would buy by the gallon.  Excellent avocados and tomatoes.

The service was excellent.

It wasn't bad but somewhat mediocre food.  But I would definitely return to enjoy a lovely luncheon on the veranda of the Del looking out across the manicured lawn to miles of white sand and blue ocean.

Did I mention the view?...

Very, very lovely!

Sheerwater has the potential to outshine it's food with an amazing view and ambiance, so I was thrilled to find that the lunch was actually really good. The quality of the food was icing on top of the cake that was our view of the Coronado Beach.

The crab and cheese fondue is pretty incredible - delectable chunks of crabs in a baked cheesy goodness that you top on slices of fresh rosemary/sea salt bread...a great starter to share with the group. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich as my entree which was super tasty and surprisingly good for a hotel restaurant. The pork was sweet, tender, and savory piled on top of homemade brioche bread. The restaurant is obviously filled with tourists staying at (or visiting) the Del, so use it as an excuse to feel like you're on vacation too even if you're a local.

Final thoughts...
The view can't be beat. The food is fresh, well-prepared, and a nice complement to the cool ocean breeze and sunny skies surrounding you.

I love this place - we go there every trip to Coronado.  Love the Del.

The atmosphere - views - location - absolutely AMAZING!

Food is decent  -  not super fantastic but good.  The waiters are nice - valet park and get a validated ticket or voucher.

They are offering the 30 three combo I had the chicken with the tomato/mozzarella salad and the chocolate cake w/vanilla ice cream.  Very good and all three for 30 dollars not too bad.

Such a relaxing place to be - at the Del - walk the beach - walk around the stores - enjoy the history - it's great and a treasure - look forward to my next visit!

Beautiful views and perfect weather on the patio.  Lunch food was quite good, including salads, homemade chicken noodle soup, kid's mac & cheese (very rich) and kid's chicken fingers.  Food is a little expensive, which is to be expected for the Hotel Del.

Definitely good Californian cuisine.

Me and the boyfriend recently stopped here for Saturday afternoon lunch to celebrate our one year anniversary. After looking at the menu, we decided to start with 2 mojitos (very good!) lobster bisque, and the crab and cheddar ale fondue. The fondue was delicious...nice and cheesy with big chunks of crab meat. However, I was expecting a few chunks of lobster in the bisque...none to be found. Instead, they provide a avocado-mango salsa to put into the soup. Still good, but where is my lobster??

The cioppino was also good....lots of big seafood chunks with a tasty tomato broth. His crab cake sandwich was also good, but quite messy.

All in all, service and food were great. Ambiance was beautiful. Prices are what you should expect from a beach-front restaurant at this hotel.

Also, save money on parking by getting your ticket validated...just spend over $50. Easy enough to do at this place.

WOW!!! These people know how to really ruin breakfast, in every possible way.

Powdered eggs? Really??

I mean in a hotel with this type of name, you would think they would want some kind of standard!!

The cheap bacon was baked on a cookie sheet then left to sit in its own grease in a warmer until it is ready to be put in a chafing dish. (Note to the chef once the bacon comes out of the oven and starts to cool if it is not immediately removed from the sheet pan, the grease will be sucked back into the bacon, which makes the bacon soft and greasy). The biscuits were hard as a rock, not to mention the flavorless gravy. The omelet chef...I mean dishwasher / cook couldn't stop to make omelets because he was hitting on a customer, so the omelet line was too long to wait in. The waffles were soggy soggy soggy. At least they had fruit that they couldn't screw-up, they only had to cut it.

To top it off some dip S#@T scheduled a work crew to come in during breakfast and drill a whole in the cement about 10 feet away with a jackhammer drill. The manager came to talk to all the tables outside and apologize but you couldn't hear him because of the drilling. He then proceeded to ask the workers if they could wait an hour until breakfast was over, but they ignored him and kept going.
They comped 2 out of our 8 breakfasts, but that included my two nieces who ate a bite of a waffle then complained so we went and got them cereal and milk (yes that's  right the waffles were so bad a 4 and 6 year old wouldn't eat them).

To me this is not just a problem for the restaurant but for the hotel, the hotel GM should start kicking a$$ and taking names.

After reading the mixed Yelp reviews for the Sheerwater, I was a little apprehensive about my families pending Thanksgiving reservations.

This how it went down...My party was immediately seated upon arrival. Because it was such a warm day, we requested patio seating. The hostess led us to a table where we had perfect beachfront ocean views .

There was a temporary ice rink set up on the hotel ground's. So lot's of activity going on outside.

Food - A holiday prix fix menu was offered. It included pumpkin soup or salad, a traditional turkey/stuffing dish or prime rib, and then dessert.
I thought the pumpkin soup was outstanding. Everyone that ordered the soup gave it rave reviews. All portions were generous. The turkey was really moist. The prime rib was cooked to specifications; rare, medium, etc. I had the pumpkin pie. It was pretty standard.

Staff - Every staff member was extremely professional. From the greet staff, to hostess, to waiter, to water boy, to bus boy. All gave excellent service.

The next time I am in San Diego, I will return to the Sheerwater.

Hotel Del Coronado.  Enjoy views?  Fresh ocean air?  Relaxation?

BRUNCH at Sheerwater Restaurant, outdoors, of course.  It's casual.  Easy livin'.  It is expensive but if you want to feel like you are on vacation without leavin' home ... here is the place.  Basic meals like salads, seafood, burgers and so much more.  It's high quality ingredients prepared well.  I'm sure their desserts are good but we always mosy over to the ice-creamery for scoops of heaven.

If you have time, pre-brunch, go to the shops.  Darling boutiques and halls are historical.  This is a lovely place to hang out for a beautiful sunny Sunday!  After lunch, take a walk on the beach.  ENJOY!

*** Oh, one last thing.  Beware of the prying eyes of the birds.  They'll come and take your food if you don't watch out!

I had this impressionthat because the hotel del was associated with the restaurant that it must be ok. But NO!  The food is low quality processed and not no good in any way.  The service cannot even remember to refill your drink much less get your crappy food on time and warm.
Don't waste your time or money- drink water and enjoy the view only!

We checked in late at the Hotel Del and came here for a late dinner.  What a mistake.  Service was way amateur, not what you would expect at all for Hotel Del.  The hostess for some reason seated a couple who came after us first because they seemed to be in more of a rush?? (or they were caucasian?).  The server took forever to come by and take our order, and also did not replace our utensils or refill our water when needed.  No one really smiled; looked like they hated their jobs.

The food...just as disappointing.  I guess it was okay, eatible...just expected more for the price we were paying.  I ordered the filet mignon and mushroom pasta.  The pasta/mustrooms weren't bad, just the meat was like something i can make in the pan at home.  My friend ordered the cioppino; was okay also.  Strong flavor of star anise which was different.  Also the seafood could have been more fresh.

Come in the daytime for the oceanview and outdoor seating.  As for the food/service, your money will be better spent elsewhere.

I came here a few years ago with some friends for my birthday.

The service, was good.  The food was average, but the drinks were amazing.

We had some complications with food orders, and like most of you already said, nothing was done about it.  We waited a really long time to get our food, and half our dishes came out cold.

The view yes, is nice, but doesn't really make up for everything else.

Just back from a fantastic dinner at Sheerwater!  I found the restaurant to represent the quality that I expected from such a fantastic property.

We sat inside at night, so I can't say much about the view.  It was nice to see that they had indoor and outdoor seating, but as it was a San Diego "winter" evening, we chose to eat inside.  I think a balmy Sunday evening out on the patio would be nice.

The salmon was tasty and my typical caesar salad was good.  Not a big fan of the whole "we'll give you a bunch of big leaves of lettuce and let you cut them yourself" style of salads, but it was tasty.  I have to RAVE about the creamed spinach, which was FANTASTIC.  Probably not all that healthy for you anymore after they add in the cheese, but super tasty!  The table also shared an order of the baked mac & cheese which was delicious as well.  My client from the East Coast had the lamb steak and was very impressed.

I found the service to be good (if not a little TOO attentive).  Could have used with a few less questions about how we were enjoying everything, but I guess that is better than being ignored!  Water was refilled quickly and food came out fresh, warm and promptly.

A bonus for eating at The Del during December is the chance to see all the holiday decorations.  Do yourself a favor and stroll through the shops and the lobby to see all the fantastic light displays, etc.  They're celebrating their 120th year of holiday decorations this year, so went a little "bigger" with their decorations.

I come here all the time and the service has gotten better, I don't need to ask for every single item when I eat, and I never expect that in a 5 star hotel like The Del. Also it's got 5 star views, they could be a little more inventive with their buffet menu but I can always get enough bacon.

Season delights certain times of the year featured in a buffet can be very pleasing for the customer. Running a hotel like Hotel Del probably is an immense task but still, you have to strive to do something different now and then.

I wish they served brunch until 1pm, 11:30am is too early to cut off the brunch buffet folks in my opinion.

The other people reviewing this place must have come drunk, had low expectations, or were just pumping this place because of the view.  I won't lie, the view is great.  You can sit outside and see the Ocean, Beach, Sunset, etc.  If you're stuck inside, it can get nasty though.  You see, the Hotel Del does not believe in A/C.  They think that just because they are on the beach, there will ALWAYS be a magically cooling breeze keeping everyone happy and save on the Edison bills.  Well, that is not the case.

We were here for a Family Reunion on my wife's side and met here for dinner on our first night as well as eating breakfast here several times and lunch once.  (No, not because it was good, but because it was the only NON-hot dog option and it was pretty much paid for.)

I started dinner with the crab cake with a tasty onion roulade (??) which was really good and the reason for 2nd star above.  Several of us then ordered the rib-eye which sounded pretty good until the waiter informed us they just got in a bunch of lobster and were now having a surf and turf special.  Great, lobster is a favorite of mine.  Well the lobster looked good but tasted pretty blah.  Maybe a little overcooked and under-seasoned and even butter could not redeem it.  The filet also suffered from blandness.  Hey Chef, salt and pepper work well to remedy this!!!!  I wanted to go Gordon Ramsey on the chef and ask the wanker what his bloody problem was and if he even tasted his product.

The service was pretty bad too.  Granted there were 25 of us and it was a holiday week but come on, have ample staff for such a "5" Star place...

Breakfasts were ok.  It is a buffet with plenty of choices.  Lots of egg options, plenty of meats and fruits and at $20, probably the best value here.

For lunch I had the fish and chips which were also pretty good but for $26, they should be!  My wife had a burger which basically resembled the burgers they sell all over the resort, nothing special.  Again, service was spotty, had to flag down help to get drink refills and again no A/C inside.

If you're staying here, hit the buffet for breakfast but otherwise skip this place.  Plenty of better, more reasonable choices a block or two away.

Are you seriously telling me that the Del Coronado replaced an absolutely charming Mexican restaurant with THIS shit?

I remember when dinner at the Del started off with piping hot tortilla chips and a mariachi band serenading you with 'Cielito Lindo.' The only thing remotely charming/Mexican about this place this time was our busboy.

And a little less BATTERY ACID in the marinara next time, please. Honestly, how the HELL do you fuck up pasta this badly? Believe me, you don't care how nice the view is when you're experiencing nuclear fallout in your mouth.

Ehhh, I was expecting better considering this restaurant is in the beautiful and expensive Hotel Del Coronado. Some of the dishes we got were good, but most were just average. I ordered the ciopinno, which is usually guaranteed to be a winner, but this one sucked! The fish did not taste fresh, instead it tasted like a frozen mix you get at the grocery store. The only good fish in there was the salmon, so maybe that was fresh. Now, lets talk about the sauce. I swear the sauce was from a jar! It tasted like shitty jar sauce with way too much oregano in it, and there was no spice to the sauce! I expect a ciopinno to be hearty and have a little kick. Oh well, my mom's mahi mahi was good and my dad enjoyed his steak. I definitely think this restaurant is overpriced for the quality of the food.

We came on July 4th, and despite being busy, we got what we wanted a table outside to watch the sunset. 3.5 stars for food, and 5 stars for the service and location.

Our server was beet red (likely from the heat and their outfit), but still gave us great recommendations and service.

The prawn cocktail appetizer was wimpy, 3 large shrimps with pretty good flavor, but if you have ever eaten "live boiled" shrimp from a good chinese restaurant it doesn't compare. It was also $$$ we paid 17 bucks for the 3 shrimps.

I had the Thai duck salad for my entree and it was excellent, the duck had a great smokey flavor with a blend of spices resembling five spice but not quite that, either way it was great. This dish was also big, I could only put half of it away.

We also had the sea bass, and this was fresh and very lean. I have had my fair share of sea bass which are usually oily, mushy etc, but this had some texture and a clean mouth feel (ie not oily). While the sea bass flavor came through, it was not fishy.

Our eyes rolled as we tasted the mashed potatoes, so buttery with a very prominent fresh potatoe flavo, yet not heavy. Quite possiblly one of the best I have had.

The white cheddar cauliflower leaves something to be desired, the sauce was bland and chalky.

I guess I'm glad I don't own a restaurant with some of the comments that have been entered here - we have been to Sheerwater several times and have always had first rate food,  service, and atmosphere.

The table has always been pristine,  the view tremendous (it doesn't get any better), and the food top notch.   We've eaten in most metropolitan cities in the US and Europe, and can honestly say our meals at Sheerwater compete with the best of them.

On two of our visits we have sat next to celebrities - something that doesn't happen too often on our journeys.

Maybe it's the time we usually go (Sat nights during the summer),  but our visits have been consistently A+.  It is rather pricey, however, so be prepared.

And they do indeed have live music on the terrace.  Well okay, one guy on a guitar and an amplifier, but it is really all they need.  Anything more would overpower the already magnficent ambiance.

I have been here the last two years with my husband's company for their holiday party and both times it wasn't that great. The ambiance is the best part about it as the hotel is all decorated for the holiday! Last year they had the cocktail hour outside by a fireplace which was really nice, but this year it was raining so we had it by their kitchen which was really inconvenient since the servers were coming in and out! The service was pretty good, especially with keeping your drinks full. Unfortunately the food is just sub par...not worth it at all. I was glad that I wasn't paying for it!

I should've checked yelp before going here.

They messed up our orders and didn't even offer us a free drink (let alone an apology.) The service sucked. We were also told that they couldn't seat us until 8pm, but when we arrived early, we realized the place was nearly empty. So they seated us. Gee, thanks.

The food was amazing, but it should be for $30 a plate!! Not worth the trip over the bridge.

It was X'mas eve when I went and because I didnt have a reservation but stood in line, the hostess kind of scrambled and did not give me any eye contact.  Why is the front room not staffed properly? I could also see another hostess slowly walking across the room to get the menu's ready and to get people seated. I was really peeved with the lack thereof service also with the waiter. He was scrambling and dropping things on the table left and right (I had to ask for water refills twice, they forgot the side of fruit and dressing).

The ambiance and the food is well presented but horrible SERVICE.

See photos that I have posted.

The flatbread was good except the middle party was soggy.

Review of the breakfast buffet only.

We arrived just before 11:30, when they stop serving the buffet, but were still able to get everything.  We had a nice table outside with a view of the ocean, a great server, who was very attentive.

The food was good too, great bacon, great coffee cake, I had a shrimp omelette made to order with guacamole that was excellent.  Fresh fruit, waffles made with malt (as in malt balls) that was great as well.  It came to $27 a person, including fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee and tip.  Not a bad deal considering the amount and quality of the food as well as the view.

They have this banana caramel ice cream that you KNOW
they hand-make in the kitchen, and it's to DIE for.

I experienced this heavenly ice cream for the
first time when they brought it out with
a Mexican Chocolate style brownie - DROOL.

Make sure to sit outside, or the expensive food
and the sometimes slow waitstaff will NOT be worth your while.

When outside though, enjoy the romantic
view of the ocean, the sultry sound of the waves crashing,
and the twinkly lights within the Hotel Del.

We had reservations here on Saturday night. We arrived a bit early so hung out on the beach until the time of our reservations. It was a really nice night. The sun had just set as we took our seats at a table on the outside of the restaurant.

Our waiter was really nice, going back and forth from the kitchen to find out about  different sauces for my friends, who didn't want the orange sauce on the chicken they wanted to order (Sorry folks, but orange sauce? I know a lot of restaurants have that kind of stuff, but why??). They finally settled on another sauce and our waiter had the kitchen make it that way. Our waiter couldn't have had a better attitude.

The fish that he suggested to me was really good as well. I had first asked him what he recommended and to choose between the salmon and halibut. He gave me a look and said "Well, from those two, the halibut, but the sea bass [an option I hadn't given him] is excellent." So I went with that and was very satisfied.

All in all, great time.

While on vacation in San Diego over the weekend, I visited the Sheerwater on Saturday, 4/11, for a late lunch with friends.  We had perused the menu online prior to our visit and were excited about our trip to the Hotel del Coronado.  After a leisurely stroll on the beach, we we were seated quickly without a reservation.  This was one of the only positive aspects of our experience.

Our waiter, who was completely unkempt (so much so that our appetites might have been affected by it) and never offered his name, interrupted my friend in the middle of her order to ask another waiter an unrelated question.  Further, our food (an assortment of soups, salads and flatbreads) took over 45 minutes to arrive, which was beyond unreasonable.  The waiter and associated wait staff never asked during the time between ordering our meals and those meals appearing if we would like our drinks refreshed; nor did we receive any apologies for the delay.  The couple at the table next to us was having a similar issue and actually complained to a manager.  We did not want to ruin our already negative Coronado experience by engaging the managerial staff, who were clearly overwhelmed.  The staff was so anxious and rushed that it made our experience feel the same way.  This was not the "dynamic dining experience" we had anticipated after looking at the website.

While we were eating at an off hour (4pm for a very late lunch), the restaurant is in a high-traffic resort and had a decent number of staff on site.  Yet we had to tackle a server to order drinks; that server was not our waiter and seemed rushed.  He at least was clean and put together and made an effort to provide cocktails (and then return to his tables, who were also waiting a long time for their food to arrive).  Being from Las Vegas, and some of us former waiters ourselves, it is our experience that not only standard practice for wait staff, but also common courtesy would deem it reasonable to a) apologize for a delay, b) be attentive to the table or c) offer a discount.

Overall, the food (when it arrived) was average -- the chicken in my salad was lukewarm, the flatbreads were smothered with black bean hummus and short on the chicken and chorizo -- and the service was inexcusable: it pushed past a purely "busy" staff (who might have received our sympathies if they bothered to check in and see how we were doing) and into "inconsiderate" when our waiter and others just avoided us.  I felt the compulsion to holler at our waiter, but he didn't introduce himself and rushed through all interactions, so we resorted to waving our arms until someone noticed (which took some time).

This experience was a true disappointment -- the only bad meal I've ever had in the San Diego area...and have had better at much less expensive, understaffed chain restaurants.  For a hotel that has been host to Presidents and has 4-diamond status, this was shameful.  The only real positive was that due to a large wedding outside the restaurant overlooking the beach, the "people watching" factor of our experience was top notch.

Went here for a company holiday function so we were a large group. We were seated inside so we didn't have the view, but when I walked outside, yes, it would be a nice view if the (seasonal) ice skating rink wasn't in the way! The Del is old but it looks like they may have done some remodeling for the restaurant. It is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too expensive. I guess you pay for the view and the fact that you're on Coronado.

Sheerwater is touristy and seems to cater to elderly well-off clientele who will wait for hours for food. Service was slooooooooooow and they forgot my co-worker's mojito - he had to ask for it three times. Freebie bread was focaccia. It was so-so.

My co-worker and I got an appetizer, Baked Goat Cheese, which we enjoyed. It was large and was good for a ton of people to share. Goat cheese, basil and sun-dried tomato pesto, roasted garlic with toasted ciabatta bread. Plenty of left over to dip the free focaccia bread in.

For my entree I got a pasta dish. It might have been a special because I can't see it on the online menu. I attached a picture of it. It was sort of a carbonara deal - peas, cream sauce, sundried tomatoes, chicken, and polished with fresh basil. I did enjoy it - it was just really, really, heavy. It was also like $27!!! Rip off. Worth more like $13!

I think the food was good, not fabulous, but good. For those over-inflated prices though, it should have been a helluva lot better.

Great place for an expensive lunch on a sunny day.  Located in the famous Hotel Del Coronado, Sheerwater has a great view of the white sand and blue ocean.  Sitting outside is definitely a plus.

The food was wonderful.  All the flavors complimented each other and my boyfriend and I enjoyed both our dishes so much that we opted to half everything between us.  Chocolate creme tart is delicious.

I will not let the fact that I came down with the stomach flu hours after my dinner affect my review...
I will not let the fact that I came down with the stomach flu hours after my dinner affect my review...

The Hotel del Coronado is breathtaking. The sheer magnitude of the grounds and the meticulous floor-to-ceiling holiday decoration (complete with a roving quartet of carolers) were a perfect way to begin the evening.
We wound through the Shops at the Del, passing patrons dressed in formal attire from various private functions, until we reached the entrance to the Sheerwater, which was equally beautiful. It didn't feel like a touristy hotel restaurant at all...until we were handed our menus.
The markup is absolutely atrocious at this place. A surf and turf special at $62 is laughable, as delicious as that lobster tail did look coming out of the kitchen. (And obviously, someone wasn't laughing at the price, because it was selling!)
A real eye-opener was a glass of Ravenswood Sonoma Zinfandel for $10. You can get a bottle of that at ANY liquor store for $10.99. The drink list was a tough pill to swallow, but I decided to try the pomegranate martini anyway. Well, they weren't kidding when they said it was a splash of pomegranate juice. Not the best one I've had. Actually, it had the bland, "juice cocktail" tartness of a cheap Cape Cod I could get at any bar.
Moving past drink selection, I wasn't thrilled with the entre menu. The men in my party both ordered the pork chops, substituting (with no problem) the original accompaniment for a side of white-bean and chorizo cassoulet. They both liked the pork chop, but I found it to be a little dry.
The list of side dishes in addition to the cassoulet was tantalizing, so I settled on an heirloom tomato caprese salad and a side of Yukon mashed potatoes. A bizarre meal, yes (especially when paired with my subpar martini), but when you're on the brink of illness, you order what sounds good.
Even in Southern California, tomato season is summer, not late November. I should have known better, but so should they. The tomatoes in my salad were mealy and lacked flavor. The mozzarella also tasted fresh out of a plastic bag you could get at any grocery store, and if that was a basil leaf sitting on top of the salad...well, I'll be damned.
My mashed potatoes were pure heaven, and that is the best thing I have to say about this restaurant.

To the server's credit, we were a picky table with a lot of order modifications, and he was gracious and accommodating with everything. He was quick to bring the olive oil I asked for to go with our bread, and he was prompt in bringing our check when we decided to pass on dessert. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but the quality of our food and drink didn't match the exorbitant prices, and that's a disappointment.
I never mind splurging on meals, especially when I'm on vacation, but this leads me to think a little harder on it next time.

Also, a word to anyone headed to Sheerwater: Some have labeled this as dressy, but because it's a hotel, I saw diners in everything from jeans and T-shirts to near-prom attire.

um, who comes here for the food? tourists?  wife & I live about a mile away (not in coronado, but in downtown) and we come out here once or twice a year for lunch.  yes, everything is super expensive, but you're paying for the view, which has to be one of the best in the whole world.

i only have ever eaten one main course here- that would be the hamburger- it's $20, true but they actually make it rare when you order it that way, and that is worth at least $5 of the $20 price.  The view is another $10 of value.

They also do a sunday brunch here but it's super weak- I wouldn't go back.

This isn't THE hotel del brunch but it's a good second.  I ate here on a weekday and skipped the buffet option in favor of a la carte.  The food was unremarkable but the ocean and garden view from our patio table made this my hotel del restaurant of choice.

For one of the premier hotels in San Diego, this place was a complete bust.  I read the reviews on here and thought it would be a great place for a romantic dinner with my girlfriend.  I could not have been more wrong.

We arrived about 20 minutes early for our reservation because we wanted to walk around.  When we checked in, it was complete pandemonium and the hostess checked my name and told me to wait to the side.  After 10 minutes, I realized she clearly forgot about us.  I had to go back and remind her and tell her we would wait by the bar.  We waited another 45 minutes - 30 minutes past our reservation.  We were finally sat, but only after I asked to speak to the hotel manager.

I thought with a private beach and such a beautiful hotel, this would be a very romantic setting.  The scenery was great, but interrupted by dozens of children running around in front of the restaurant and just outside the patio where we sat for our meal.  If you have kids and are trying to get away from them for an evening, this is NOT THE PLACE TO GO.

The menu was very good, but the wine list left much to be desired.  The one upside to the dinner was our server; she volunteered to get a wine list from another one of their restaurants for us.  We had a nice bottle of wine; I ordered the sirloin steak and my girlfriend had the Alaskan Halibut.  The food was good, but it was not what you would expect from a hotel of this caliber.

Overall, I was very disappointed with The Del.  I would suggest a pass on this place for dinner, but it's worth having a drink or two and exploring the hotel.

This place is bad ass. Very romantic place because you can dine outside and it is virtually on the beach. It is the private beach (I believe) of Hotel Del Coronado, so its nice.... not many fat dudes in speedos running around. The food was fabulous. It was around $20 for an entree and there was a lot of food.

Don't bother unless all you care about is the view.  I've been here 3 times on business related meals, thankfully, that meant I didn't pay.  The waiters are pleasant enough but the food is just ok.  Worst of all, the place does not feel or seem clean.  The tables and chairs all have a thin coat of grease on them and they smell like old grease.  Clean those things!!  Also, this past Thursday when I was there for lunch, someone had apparently spilled chocolate syrup all down the back of my chair, which I didn't find out until I got up and had chocolate all down the back of my white sweater.  Nice.  They made a big deal about the grilled shrimp salad but it was mediocre at best with way oversalted shrimp.  The lemonade tasted like it was made from the stuff that you buy in the plastic lemon containers in supermarkets.  Brunch one time was chaos and a busboy banged into my husband and sent stuff flying.  Dinner, way overpriced with mediocre service and still greasy and funky smelling chairs.  But, yes, the view was lovely.
