After the very fast birth or my very large baby I was left pretty much unable to walk.  I saw 2 different chiropractors (who I had used before) with no improvement to my delicate situation before doing a search on the Golden Gate Mother's Group for "displaced tailbone."  In a long list of discussion I found a few referrals to Dr Sheehan so I called immediately. Sure enough, after the first very thorough exam and adjustment I felt better.  After the 2nd, I felt MUCH better, and after the 3rd visit I was holding my adjustments and finally able to get around without pain anymore.

She also has adjusted and done craniosacral on my newborn with nice results.  She is very skilled and has a wonderful bedside manner.  I highly recommend her.  A must for anyone suffering postnatal.

I'm sorry to have to write this review because I think Laura Sheehan truly believes she's helping people but the fact is, I would never recommend her.

I saw her for some pregnancy-related problems and she did exactly what I'd been warned chiropractors do - tell you that you have myriad problems and that you need to be seen twice a week for several months. I don't doubt that I may have had more problems than just the one but I made it clear that at that point, I was just looking for help in this one area due to lack of free time and extra money.

I found her adjustments to be very painful and I always left feeling like crap. I would wait a few days, reminding myself to be patient, that perhaps it's not a quick fix, but I would feel worse and worse.

I had to wait to see her every single time I came - in some cases, as long as 30 minutes. I know she's busy but my time is valuable too. Finally, I found her office to be kind of dirty and I didn't appreciate having to be worked on with another patient in the room. Actually, what I objected to was "Dr. Laura" simply not asking me first if it was okay. I probably would've been cool with it if I had just been given a choice.

Interestingly, I just met a woman at the playground who was telling me about a bad experience she had with a chiropractor and surprise, surprise, it was Laura Sheehan.

    Was this review …?

If you read my reviews at all, you'll see that while monogamous in romance, I am truly polyamorous when it comes to my wellness practitioners. I am loyal and true, but to a great many chiropractors, massage therapists, acupuncturists and skincare therapists. When you see excellent people, everybody has something worthwhile to add to the mix.

I'm so glad Dr. Sheehan has joined the mix. Her chiropractic and cranial sacral massage is centered around the mamas and the mamas-to-be, as far as I can tell. She specializes in pre-natal work and has been able to diagnose a really horrible injury I have been struggling with for a couple of months now This injury finally hit a breaking point that had me in so much pain I couldn't walk more than two blocks without nausea and dizziness one day last week. I even had to call in sick to work (something I've done only twice before in ten years, and the result of which was a rather cold and one-sided yelp review of my own practice, but that's another story). Fortunately I was able to get in to see Dr. Sheehan on a day my regular chiro is closed.

She took a look at me, ran some orthopedic diagnostic tests, and determined that my hips are unable to stay in alignment because of a past injury. While up to then, walking was excruciating, I am feeling well on the road to recovery after two visits to Dr. Sheehan. I have more visits scheduled, of course, because healing ain't a quick fix. And while I will continue to see the other lights of my wellness life, I am truly glad that I found kind and gentle Dr. Sheehan when I did.

Bonus stars for the infants and children I encounter in the waiting room, and for Olinda, the nicest and friendliest office manager you will ever meet.

I should have posted this 2 years ago, but it's better late than never.  :)

I experienced pubic pain about 15 weeks into my first pregnancy.  I asked around and no one seemed to know the cause or solution.  It hurt when I walked, when I turned around in bed, when I got up from a sitting position, when I swam... and it just kept getting worse.  Finally a yoga teacher told me that it's called public symphysis pain, and I should call Dr. Laura Sheehan.

I've never seen a chiropractor before, but I was willing to try anything.  Dr. Sheehan was gentle, informative, very knowledgeable, and she fixed me in 1 visit!  I limped into her office and walked out in 100% comfort.  I went to see her periodically throughout and post pregnancy to make sure my hip and everything else stay in perfect alignment and pain free.

I'd highly recommend her to anyone.  Also parking is pretty easy in that area.  Big plus.  :)

I have been seeing Dr. Laura for over 5 years, as I've suffered from neck and headaches for over 13 years. I was referred to her, because she specializes in among other things, neck problems. Her treatments have drastically lessened the reoccurence of my episodes, which before her, were daily and all too consuming.  She is a very knowledgeable & intuitive chiropractor.  She has also helped support me through a long bought of infertility and provided treatments for my lower back prior to pregnancy and during pregnancy.  Glad to say, she has treated my 3 year old daughter, for the first time, when she was only a few months old.  Dr. Laura has a kind spirit and provides me with a lot of helpful knowledge about my overall health each visit.
I referred my mother to her a few years ago, who is in her 70's and Dr. Laura was able to help her with her neck problem also.

I highly recommend Dr. Sheehan for prenatal and postnatal care for moms and babies - she is truly amazing and a very gifted healer.

I started seeing Dr. Sheehan during my pregnancy after I was hit by a car at 23 weeks which knocked my hips out of alignment (baby was okay!). The chiropractic adjustments along with cranial sacral work I received helped immensely with helping my body feel much better again, and helped me heal from the emotional trauma of the accident. I continued seeing her throughout my pregnancy every few weeks. Not only were her treatments helpful, she also is a very knowledgeable resource in alternative healing modalities and also gave me various recommendations on supplements to take during my pregnancy.

She also did a couple of home visits after the birth of my baby boy to provide some cranial sacral work for him. He had a vacuum assist and as a result we had troubles initiating breastfeeding and his latch was causing me a lot of pain. After 30 minutes of Dr. Sheehan's healing hands, my baby boy's latch was perfect and we've been happily breastfeeding since. I have continued to take him to see her a few times since for some fussiness/digestive issues related to a misalignment in his neck and I am completely amazed with the results and her gentle care of my son.

I see Laura Sheehan at this clinic and she's wonderful. Her specialty is working with women and either preparing their body for pregnancy and birth (preconception), working with pregant women (prenatal), or adjusting women who have just given birth (postpartum). She also performs adjustments for babies and children.

I haven't been to a chiropractor in ages, but finally gave in when I could no longer take feeling my misaligned sits bones in yoga classes. Laura aligned them in one session and have been keeping them aligned as well as adjusting my very forward thrusting right hip.

One note, Dr Sheehan is also an Atlas Orthogonalist. In addition to the usual adjustments, she uses a machine to correct the alignment at the base of the head. It's strange, but I really prefer this method since it's more gentle in approach and the results are immediate.

My only complaint -and I suppose this can be applied to all chiropractics- is the follow up visits that chiropractors need from you to make their work effective. Also, all the xrays... ugh, the radiation is ruining my eggs! At $55 a visit and all those xrays, I grow a little weary. But then again, when I feel my even sits bones... well, I can't turn back. Know what I mean?

    * update... completely forgot to mention Olinda! She's got to be the friendliest yet most efficient office assistant. She's very welcoming and keeps the children who visit with their mamas occupied so the mamas can get the much needed treatment from Laura. My little guy adores her!

Five spatulas for Dr. Sheehan. May my next one have an easier time entering the world now that my hips are a even!

I thank Dr. Laura for my continuing ability to walk upright.  I started seeing her when I was pregnant and had a terrible pelvic shear.  After one visit I felt better, so I kept going for recurring neck issues after I got through the whole crank-the-kid-out routine.  Every now and then I throw out my lower back and when I visit her, it gets better within a couple days - if I don't I can count on pain for at least a couple weeks.  After conducting this quasi-controlled experiment, I decided to stop fooling around and schedule monthly maintenance visits - and keep her on speed dial for when I throw my back out again (thanks, P90X).  Shout out to the lovely receptionist Jen who gives me extra reminder calls to make sure me and my sorry old skeleton don't forget my appointment.

I know several people who have used Dr. Sheehan's services.  Not only is she a great chiropracter, she is also knowledable in many other health areas.  Auto accidents, Mothers, and young children seem to be a great specialty for her.  I would recomend her to anyone seeking better health!

Dr Laura Sheehan has been my chiropractor for a bit over four years.  She helped my stay comfortable during my pregnancy and helped me and my newborn daughter, who could not turn her head to the left until Dr. Laura was able to adjust her.  Without my regular adjustments my back would be in constant pain, and very uncomfortable.  My regular Doctor would only give me pain killers.  My daughter and I love going and after our visit we are both more patient and calm.  We Love You.

My baby was in a breech position and I was scheduled for an external version. I was recommended to try the Webster technique and to  see Dr. Laura Sheehan for that matter. We had 10 days before the external version. She did very gentle adjustments and releasing on the round ligaments on my belly every other day in average. Never messed with trying to move the baby or anything like that. She said that often times she gets the baby to turn on its own, and that most of the times, if that doesn't happen, then the version would be quick and painless (the opposite of what it normally is). I am happy to report that my version was successful, speedy (30 seconds), and painless, all that despite low amniotic fluids. Yay! Now I get to go through the joy of labor instead of a scheduled C-Section! (I must be crazy...)

With patience and trust..this woman will do wonders for you.

I recently had a very bad fall on metal stairs and landed on my back. This happened on Oct. 15.2009.  Since I am a massage therapist this was very bad news for me. I couldn't work and I have two little girls to support.

I was referred to Dr. Sheehan by Sage Femme Midwifery.  She does a mixture of healing techniques.  Gentle Chiropractic, Cranial Sacral and Atlas Orthonigal.  All three of these treatments has made it so I can use both arms again while driving and I can give my children a bath without back pain and hopefully go back to work in Jan. 2010.  I did have to go to her 3 times a week for the 1st month ... then 2 times and now once a week which will then turn into once a month later on.   At first I was worried about how often and $$$ but since I got a good referral it was easy for me to trust that she would help me. What other choice did I have...suffering? No thank you.   As a massage therapist of 10 years and Post- partum doula I highly recommend Dr. Sheehan to all in need of care......including infants for cranial sacral therapy!

Thank you Dr. Sheehan for helping me be a better me which will help my children to have a happier and healthier Mama.

I started seeing Dr. Sheehan about a year ago when I moved to San Francisco for law school.  I cannot describe how much she has improved my quality of life, health, attitude, and, hence, my law school experience.  Throughout the last 10 years I have seen many different chiropractors but Dr. Sheehan is truly amazing.  She is gentle and caring, she listens to me and to my body, and she is effective!!  Not only do I feel better on a day to day basis, but I have learned so much from her about maintaining my health.  Thank you Dr. Sheehan for everything you have done for me.

i had a very sad experience with 'doctor' laura sheehan back in february and i had been debating whether to post this but after learning the severity of my condition how can i not?!?!?!
after having my first baby a year ago i came to see this chiropractor for some lower back pain because i thought i maybe broke my tailbone during the birthing process. i had read some reviews on other mommy sites i figured i would try her out. i was always skeptical about chiropractors but i couldnt stay on pain meds forever so i gave in and made my 1st appt.
i was not really a fan of her adjustments simply because it didnt make any sense to me. after paying 160 dollars for xrays- yet not telling me that is what they would cost- she did some measurments and then put me under a machine with a long needle coming out of it, placed it at the top of my skull and hit a button.  she said after that i would never have a misalignment again but i would need follow up xrays- yes more money- to make sure it was corrected.  all after one adjustment. sounds like a miracle right? and my lower back did not feel better and she concentrated more on my neck even though i came in with lower back pain.
i had about 30 #s to lose after the pregnancy and 'doctor' sheehan kept talking about a special diet she gives her patients and i must absolutely do it and i would never see that weight come back. she gave me a web site to check out and i did some research.  she mentioned the few other times i saw her before i stopped treatment with her- b/c i wasnt feeling better and 65 dollars was a lot for each visit.
the diet is called hcg and i guess a lot of weight loss clinics do this too. so i ordered to products and started to follow the instruction for a few weeks. this was a big huge mistake to listen to laura sheehan for diet advise.
my regular MD doctor has told me the dangers of this diet after i began experiencing upper abdominal pain by my liver. i now have a condition called fnh- focal nodular hyperplasia which is a small tumor on the liver from hormone imbalances and women on the hcg diet have a high rate of this. now i have to get surgery to remove this tumor that i would have never had. i could have done something safe like weight watchers but at the hands of 'doctor' sheehan i am now in pain and cant eat very many foods w/o having pain bloating and other problems and cant enjoy even picking up my own baby from being in pain all the time.
i know that she is also been a nurse but she does not know what she is talking about and should not instruct her patients to do anything outside of her field of practice in chiropracty.  i have given up on the idea of seeing another chiropractor now and i hope others will read this and never try the hcg diet or 'doctor' laura sheehan as both are dangerous to your health.

Extremely friendly staff, nice office; though I felt a bit rushed through the appointment; there was someone still in the room finishing up when I arrived early as advised.  Def a gentle touch and very nice but for the price not sure I can afford all of the appointment suggested.    I had no idea she lost her Mom when I was seeing her.  She was helping me to turn my baby who was breech, I ended up having a version procedure and he turned.  I had a great natural birth and I attribute part of that success to seeing Dr. Sheehan. I had a great experience and felt the adjustments/massage was well worth the price.

Dr. Laura is a miracle worker.  I've been seeing her for years.  She is the only person that I trust to really help me whenever I have anything wrong with my back, neck, arm, pelvis, etc.  I disloated my pelvis while giving birth and couldn't walk or climb stairs.  So, she came to my house and reset me within 24 hours.  She sincerely cares about her patients.  She is the best at helping me with any siatica problems.  She adjust my baby son and he started sleeping better that night!  She has helped my husband with his shoulder.  Both of my little girls just love seeing Dr. Laura.  Last week, my neck was so stiff that I couldn't turn it and then I had a pinched nerve in my arm.  Most of the pain went away during the adjustment, and completely gone within 12 hours of the adjustment.  She is the absolute best.

I come all the way from Texas to see Dr Sheehan!!!  She's that good!  I was experiencing numbness in my arms due to a pinched nerve and misalignment that was so severe that it affected just about everything I did......driving, doing my hair, reading, computer work.  I was in SF visiting when I learned about Dr, Sheehan when she made a house call for my daughter after having a baby.  She graciously worked on me then and there and I had immediate and amazing results.  This lady knows her stuff!  My problem is 95% better and getting better with each visit.  I always make an appointment with her when I visit my daughter once a month.  I feel so blessed to get my normal arms back.  I had been seeing a local chiropractor who just put an electronic device on me and sent me on my way with no results.  It was a waste of my time and money.  Dr. Sheehan the kind of chiropractor that puts the shine on the whole profession.  Did I mention that she was very pleasant and caring and concerned about her patients?  SHE IS THE BEST!

Went here hoping to try Atlas Orthogonal. I called to ask if they are flexible on timing since I'm coming from South Bay by train. They told me that I cannot be late since they had set aside 45 minutes just for me. Sheehan was over 10 minutes late to the appointment so I was left to wait about 15 minutes on a busy street, knowing I'm a severe migraine sufferer. It was also an unmarked building so I called around for 10 minutes worried it was not the right place and I'd already been told I had to be on time. The receptionist called me back to let me know Sheehan was finding parking. About 10 minutes after that she pulled up in front of the building and parked so I was relieved I was in the right place. She did the handheld atlas orthogonal on me twice in one visit after finding the first did not work, so I'm not sure the second worked either. The x-ray showed I was still 5 degrees off after 'treatment'. I was scheduled a follow-up visit then told my follow-up visit didn't exist. My pain level did go down for two days but that was also due to follow-up instructions of rest for two days. Since I have not returned, she has called me twice to stress that I need to come back. A few months later I left her a message to get MRIs back since she'd kept them and I needed them for a skeletal muscular appointment. She returned my call with more guilt and stress asking me what made me think one visit would be ok and that I have to return and she wants to know why I won't come back. I let her know I simply couldn't afford the appointment and a 4 hour commute on a regular basis. To be honest, just busing and riding the train in and from San Francisco is enough to undo any "wellness" done to me in a visit. I'm not supposed to lean my head around but that's impossible on the cramped buses that stop and go every few feet. I can't afford to go back, $17 train faire + her fees for every time my head gets jilted every few days. Then she told me that it would cost less than she said it cost before and proceeded with other guilt statements. I didn't need or pay for this kind of stress, guilt, and pressure from a wellness clinic. I'm sure this approach works for some people, but as stated in her paperwork, they do not provide treatment, diagnosis, or cure for any disease or disorder.
