Los Angeles, CA
This place has been on my must-do list for over a year now, and I can't believe it took me so long to get here! I have a friend from Toronto, so of course we had to experience Canada Night, where Moosehead and Molson are $3 and they screen Kids in the Hall. My friend's only quip was that if it was a real Canadian bar, it'd be screening hockey, but otherwise he was quite amused, especially with the Canadian pop hits rocking the stereo. Hey Sum41!
You can hang by the bar or wander back to find yourself a nice little nook. The bathrooms are large and clean, a major plus when you've had a Moosehead too many and need a little room to fumble. The atmosphere is moody, but everyone is super pleasant - as one would expect from Canadians. I'm totally charmed by this hide-out on Fairfax and will definitely be back. -

Nice little spot with a good selection of beer and wine
a bit pricey, but a nice atmosphere. would like to return when more people are there. -

Cutest little Canadian Neighborhood bar ever! Me and my roomies live down the street from this place. We are so happy we get to walk to it whenever we want.
They pretty much have something going on every night. They have Karaoke, trivia, comedy and yes, even a drag show. Gotta love it! It's a little dive bar but the bartenders are super nice. The place is very casual with all kinds of patrons. At the end of the night, your tab will be minimal. Prices are pretty darn inexpensive. Plus they have lots of Canadian beer choices!
We went on trivia night which started off slow but ended up being pretty hoppin. I will be frequenting this place!! -

$2 tequila shots and great atmosphere with awesome staff working. I thought this place was really fun considering it's in a random spot across from the grove. Also, we got the $30 for $50 yelp deal for 4 girls and it was plenty to drink. Be aware though that the music and basic overall ambiance of the place is very folksy/whimsical i guess. Not your typical bar or lounge scene really. Fun though :) I would definitely come again.

This dears, is as good as it gets.
Sheddy's is a cozy wine bar that serves up a delightful selection of wines, beers and cheese plates. Happy Hour offers a divine 2 for 1 specials. The prices are reasonable, the staff friendly and attentive. The patrons are equally friendly and conversational--an anomaly in this strange impersonal city. It's astonishing that such a place exists so close to the Grove hellmouth. Even through it's only a block away, Sheddy's is a world away from the outdoor mall crazymaking and offers a respite from the chaos.
Kudos for the outrageous seasonal decorations Canada Day, 4th, St. Pat's etc.! -

I came here on a Wednesday night and it was pretty empty. This was a cool little wine bar. The ambiance was really nice it was very laid back and relaxed. The decorations were cute (Christmas lights everywhere) and their choice of alcohol was short and sweet but varied. There's a parking lot in the back, which offers plenty of parking so I'd definitely come back!

We arrived and get in the back door so we didn't have to paid $3.00 cover charge for Comedy Night. The place look like a old style German's Beers and Wine pub feel, and the place was small and dark.
The comedy routine was okay for the most part, and I think this a good place for Comedian newbie get their feet wet.
To my surprise this place got a lot of Gay and Lesbian show up for comedy night, and comedian joke a lot about Gay and Lesbian theme.Comment from Jim S. of Sheddy's 9/3/2011

Love the Moroccan coloring and the chill atmosphere. Hard to find parking. Small and seductive environment. The bartender can hook up any drink you like. Another nice neighborhood bar, I hope they stay around for a really long time. Good selection of beer.

Very interesting place. Not as much for itself but for the crowd and busy nights. People are very friendly, and some above that. Small place, a lot of good drinks and also affordable for my wallet. Definitely a place to visit when you are with several friends.

This little wine bar in LA is a great catch. This place is fairly small but has a lot of personality! We went during comedy night and there is a small $3 charge but they give you drink tickets to make up for the fee. We ordered a pitcher of Sangria for three people and it was the perfect amount. The Sangria was fruitier than some of the ones I've had but it was good enough to be satisfied. We also ordered their beef jerky, which they are known for.. but I wasn't too big of a fan.
The atmosphere was decorated with dark colors, eccentric vases, frames, and rugs. The comedians were definitely amateur that night but very nice of them to give up and coming comedians a chance to show their stuff.
They also have an outside patio area where people can hang out, enjoying the beautiful Cali weather.
Overall, a great catch for a random weekday late night date with the friends!Listed in: Wine Galore

Should be 3.5 stars but I'll wait to return before boosting it.
This place was bookmarked for a really long time and I don't remember why but finally I convince a friend in the area to check it out. We ordered some wine and relaxed into one of the tables. It feels like a place you'd find in Europe so you feel sophisticated drinking there (maybe it was just the wine).
Neat decor, friendly staff and it seems like they have some cool events and happy hours planned - there were some fliers on the walls.
I might go back if I'm nearby but nothing exactly is drawing me back. -
Review from Emi T.
Went there with a couple of my friends today after dinner to grab some drinks... Unfortunately I'm not a beer person (the only beer I enjoy (so far) is Lambic beer! :() nor a big wine fan, so I was a bit "eehhh" when I got there, but the bartender was extremely friendly and helped me out with this, asking what kind of drinks I usually liked, and recommended me an... interesting Canadian beer.
The atmosphere of the place was really nice too, nice and cozy, and a good spot to just hang out and relax with a couple of friends! -
Review from Darcy R.
What a great place, an unexpected neighborhood find. I was staying nearby and my HB found this place when he was jogging around the neighborhood.
The bartender was friendly in a laid back way, which is a fine balance in LA, if you ask me. Often staff either completely dismisses you or talks to you like they're selling real estate.
It didn't get too crowded (it was a early week night) but we did end up participating in their trivia contest since the usual regulars didn't show up. We ended up winning (which is truly shocking) and had even struck up a couple conversations with the other patrons.
The whole time we were drinking some nice beers that were reasonably prices. I didn't have any wine so I can't comment on that particular list.
But next time I go to LA, I wouldn't mind coming back here. Be sure to say hello to BoBo and take a look at the decor.... -

This is a great intimate place for standup comedian:)
ANyway, came here last night to see some comedians performing and also enjoy the drink too:)
Nice setting place, very small, but cozzy, friendly and the bartender was awsome. Great sense of humore, and business oriented.
He does pay attention to his clientelles and do it well too.
The performers at this place was great too:)
Definitely recommended. -

This place is rad.
Cool ambiance, nice bartenders, hip music (but played from a laptop so there is something adorable, not pretentious, about it) and comfortable seats make it feel like you are hanging out at someone's velvet house and not a wine bar across the street from The Grove.
I hear they have a great Happy Hour. Also, they have game nights. So that is pretty cute too.
Really great place for a first date...and I go on a lot of first dates, so I totally know what I am talking about. -

Tried Sheddy's again on Friday, and was pleasantly surprised with the much improved atmosphere. Just goes to show how different a night out can be depending on who's serving your drinks... My addition of one more star is totally due to the wondrous entertainment I experienced while observing the rousing game of uno taking place at the table next door. Okay, well, the extra star really is for pretty much everything else but the riveting uno match that was underway... I mean, really. Uno? really??
Oh, and bonus points: Sheddy's is consistently cheaper than molly malones. yay.Listed in: So Over-hyped!!, if you're stalking me,, my nightlife spots

They have Tangerine beer. Got to get my fruit in some how.
Great little, Euro vibe, hole in the wall. Dark and tiny, it's perfect for a rainy, low key date night. -

Los Angeles, CA
My friends and I were physically assaulted by Jim Sheddy, the bar's owner. It's safe to say I won't be returning.
My friend asked him "Don't you remember me?" and Jim, in some kind of manic drunken rage, started throwing beer glasses and lunged at us. In the course of all this, all three guys in my group were shoved. Jim felt it best to purposely dump a beer in my lap and continually call us names. It was the strangest, most unprovoked violent scene I've ever been around.
As we waited for the police outside, many patrons came out a assured us this sort of thing happens all the time. Unfortunately because the police didn't see it happen and none of us had visible bodily harm, the police felt the charges wouldn't stick.
Please don't go to this bar. Don't support this kind of behavior. -

I grew up in the neighborhood and I really hope this eccentric little spot is here to stay. There really isn't anything quite like it around. My friends and I went in last night, Sunday. Music selection is excellent. Small, intimate crowd seems relaxed with some potential to get silly. Jim Sheddy was there tending bar, and he definitely has a pied piper energy; he grasps the true spirit of merriment and is one of the cooler guys you're going to meet anywhere around town. All of their weekly events and parties seem pretty fun--trivia nights, pub crawls--and remind me of the homier vibes I've encountered at pubs in London and D.C. We will definitely be back.
*PLUS they have a RISK board and Unibroue Maudite in a frickin bottle... Come on people, it doesn't really get better than that. -

International bar of mystery..
It's dark and intimate, kind of has a Moroccany/European feel. Not too much room in there so get there early if you want a little table. Come in on a weeknight or early on a weekend for a nice quiet drink with your sweetheart in the back or one of the front window seats. Drop in on a weekend night for a bit of a gung ho crowd. I've celebrated many a birthdays here. Even my engagement!
Great ambiance, a nice curated selection of beers and wines from around the world, nice bartenders. Run by a very nice Canadian man named Jim Sheddy, we are glad you are back in the USA! -

Happy Hour Review - Daily; 5-8pm; All-night Monday; $4.25 draught beers, $2 off American Bottles & wines by the glass, $10 pitchers of sangria, 2-for-1 Hansen (soda) Highballs
Sometimes all it takes for good bar experience is a really friendly bartender who makes good company. And it doesn't hurt if they serve swell drinks :). TG & I found both at Sheddy's with Josh the bartender and a Happy Hour-priced $10 pitcher of sangria!
It's a shame that Sheddy's doesn't seem to get a ton of Happy Hour business - it's a cute, dark little night spot just south of the happening The Grove & Farmer's Market on Fairfax. The bar is small enough that 10 people would make it look full. But in the both times I've been there and from what my other pals have told me, there just aren't that many other patrons. At least the slow night gave TG & I the opportunity to chat up Josh, the very friendly bartender. Besides being super-cool, he also programmed up Pandora to provide a great soundtrack for the evening, one befit for... TG's car-mix; Coldplay, the "Lux Æterna" song from REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, and more.
Happy Hour drink deals are great, TG & I loved the sangria - with just the right level of sweetness and carbonation! Word of warning though: don't come hungry for Happy Hour; Sheddy's has pretty limited food options - cheese & meat plates that aren't featured on Happy Hour special. They also don't have a full liquor license, so while they have regular wine & beer, their hard liquor options are actually made with 20% alcohol content "vodka," "rum," and "tequila." I'd love to sample the Hansen highball - the low-liquor content drink mixed with one of 6 flavors of Hansen sodas!
We do hear that there's sometimes a crowd for "Cake Fight" at 10pm on Tuesday nights, a cabaret/drag show where the proceeds benefit supporters of marriage equality. And while drinks aren't on Happy Hour special then, we can definitely get behind paying full price for a good cause! -

Definitely an improvement from the last time. I really enjoy free shots and when they want to send 2 more our way I will not turn that down.
Our bartender. (God I suck with names) knew who I was because of my review. It shows this place cares and really wants people to enjoy their time. Plus did I mention Delirium? Yum! You also can't beat $2 PBR.
I hate calling people out like our last bartender, but I hate bad customer service. All I ask is you wait until you're done running my card and you can do whatever you want once I walk away.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Everyone is super friendly, particularly Kristin and Nicky, the best bartenders in town. Greeted with a smile and the regulars are awesome. Great selection of beers and the best on tap. Highly recommended!! -
Review from Eugene O.
Sheddy's is pretty much the best-kept secret in Los Angeles, but sssshhhh, I'm only telling you and Yelp.
For starters, you should expect a quaint, dark and divey atmosphere. It's like something out of San Francisco and if you're from there, you will feel right at home. The bar has adopted a homeless man who helps clean, but he doesn't bug the patrons and sleeps in the back. Quite heart-warming. Last night, there were several people in drag patroning the bar.
Happy Hours are pretty much rad, which runs 5-8 p.m. on weekdays and offers kick ass prices on drinks. Speaking of which, I thoroughly enjoy their wine. They offer varietals that are not your run of the mill grocery market chain type. They also give you samples before you buy. Where does that happen these days? Non-happy hour prices are still more than reasonable.
Parking can be a challenge. On any weeknight, you'll do fine on the street, save for Saturday and Sunday, which of course, becomes packed on Farifax.
In conclusion, I wanted to tell you that this is MY spot. I'm sharing Sheddy's as top secret information. -

I cannot say enough nice things about this place. There's always parking in the back, great selection of affordable wine, and Jim Sheddy is the greatest owner imaginable. He's Canadian, so it's probably to be expected, but he's a great guy. Heck, all the bartenders are nice and they play the best music at the perfect volume

This bar is like a terrible European hostel.
DRINKS - the selection of beer & wine was unimaginative as well as bad. The wines I tasted had obviously been opened for several days.

A great local hole in the wall with theme nights and the friendliest owner in town! I found Sheddy's on Yelp while looking for a bar nearby to take my friend visiting from Boston. Wednesday night is Canada night in honor of the owner Jim's native country. They offer Beer specials on Canadian brews and loop old episodes of Kids in the Hall. Kristin was tending bar when we got there and was very friendly offering tastings of wine and the house made mulled wine. Her shift ended soon after we got there and the owner Jim took over. It's great to find such a friendly owner with a perfect laid-back attitude. He plays his own music from his laptop and was generous with a couple rounds of free agave wine shots.
I have found my new local hangout. -

A really chill and nice local crowd. So please don't go in here like you would in Hollywood and act a fool cuz you just turned 21. Very chillax and cozy and super cool environment. the decor looks like the bedroom of a French whore. Love it. LOVE IT!
Cool music. It's comfy. This is more a place to have a nice little date or just a nice time with friends and you dont' wanna deal with club crowds.
Will def. Be coming back. Yes there are Hipsters, just tune them out.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE living in Hermosa Beach. It's like a mini Hawaii...but when I'm introduced to a place as amazing as Sheddy's, I can't help but wish I lived east of the 405. We're talking so inspired here, that I may or may have not been skimming Craigslist all day for a new flat. ;)
The beer was yum (Dogfish Head on tap!?) and the old bird in the smoking area reminiscing about his love for all things psychedelic was pretty entertaining too. Oh and the decor. My, my, my, the decor. The atmosphere will definitely lend a helping hand in getting you some of that late night lovin' I can promise you that.
Oh, what I would give for a place as cool as Sheddy's in the South Bay.Listed in: Take Me On A Date!

Great Place. Small. Dark. Intimate.
The bartender was awesome. Very attentive.
Round 1:
Chimay
Hemp Ale
Round 2:
Young Double Chocolate Stout
Barbar Honey Ale
Round 3:
We ordered some cheese: Chimay , Telaggio, and Chipotle Cheddar.
They came out on a cheese board w/ a basket of bread w/ Jam and baby dill pickles.
Very good!
Wild Blueberry Wheat Ale
St. Peters Cream Stout
They have a DJ that spins in the front corner of the bar.
Very cool little joint to hang w/ friends, kick back, drink , and just have a great time! -

What a find! I run past this place all the time (literally... it's on my route), and I never would have checked it out without the help of Yelp and the company of a good friend who also vouched for this place's awesomeness.
Sheddy's is truly a unique bar experience. The ambiance is the best part of this place, but their selection of wines and beers are a close second. Sheddy's has the moody lighting, plush decor, and dark and cozy interior of a bohemian European wine bar. This is the kind of place you bring a friend or partner for an intimate tete a tete. The staff is also extremely friendly and ready to give you recommendations and a background on your beverage of choice.
I think I've given you all the reasons you need to stop by, so get to it!Listed in: Bars, Bars, Bars

ATTN: BEER LOVERS!
I'm a beer guy.
Now don't get me wrong, I love a cold American Light beer on a hot summer's day as much as the next guy; but I believe that if you really want to appreciate the craftsmanship of good beer, you owe it to yourself to stop by this place.
I'll admit that I've been looking for a spot in LA that carries the "right kind" of beers, and Sheddy's is it.
BELGIAN BEER!!!!! Californian! Quebecois! German! English!!
If you call yourself a beer lover but have never had Delerium Tremens or any of the Chimays, get off your butt and into this bar.
Word to the wise-- get the meat & cheese plate, kick back with your strong ale, and dig on the totally chill environment.
BUT BE WARNED---- there is no full kitchen. A lot of people simply expect burgers and fried food to go with beer, but do you know why this place has no kitchen??
BECAUSE IT'S A BAR.
And I found a new favorite spot in the middle of the city. -

Even though Sheddy's is very close to the busy intersection of 3rd and Fairfax, it is cozy and a nice, little hideout. I was here to meet a group of people on a a Wednesday night and it was intimate and divey. We could hear each other! And the bartender was really nice and accommodating.

Oak Park, CA
I had hopes for this place. Low lighting, cool decor. The owner was "nice," as everyone seems to keep saying here. The problem was the service. Dead slow. And we were the ONLY ones there. Beers were good, but the big NO NO for me was the lack of enthusiasm in the cheese plate. Portions were tiny, and I had to get another cheese 25 mins later to get more honey for my bread. Dude, come on. A whole lot of bread, barely any cheese on the 4 chs plate, good beer though. Service killed it for me. And it looks worse when it's the owner I'm referring too!

I really like this place. It is a rare retreat in a city of craziness - very unpretentious, funky but not divey. Good music, not too loud.
Jim, the owner, as others have said, is a super nice guy. And I'm not just saying that because I am a fellow Canadian. I was there after work during the weekday HH, and will definitely go back.
Everyone is chilled out and happy, and there is a nicely curated beer selection (draft & bottles), as well as wine and interesting cheeses, bread, etc. There is a small bar + tables + window seats...I sat in the front windows on velvet cushions and it was exactly where I wanted to be after a hectic day.
FYI: HH times are 5-8 pm and all Monday. -
