Review from Sarah E.
My super hot girlfriends and I needed a night out so we decided to give Shecky's Girls Night Out a chance. A few ladies in our party had been last year and had a good time, so I figured, why not?
For $25, I received a goody bag I have yet to pilfer through, but was plenty heavy enough lugging through jam-packed crowds for four hours, three free drink tickets for beers, and unlimited wine and Midori/tequila cocktails. (Little less Midori, a lot more tequila, thanks.)
The booths were all about the same. The same jewelry, the same purses, same dresses. However we did do a Budweiser beer pairing that was actually pretty fun, despite the fact that we had to drink Bud products. The little gal up front took us through the ingredients in Bud products and had us taste cheese and crackers and edamame. At the end we received indestructible Bud "chalices" that my cat is currently drinking H2O out of because... well I've been drinking for four hours without eating dinner since no food was served at the event, and I thought it was funny. And the chalice is ugly.
Overall I liked the idea of the event, even without buying anything I still had a good time with my gals. I suggest packing a power bar if you plan on drinking your money's worth, however.Listed in: Oh You Fancy, Huh?

I wish I could rate this event with negative stars!!! I paid $30 for a ticket that included a goodie bag and it was such a waste of money!! Vendors weren't good and goodie bag contents were worth a total of $5-$7 dollars. I emailed customer service about their event lacking the normal Shecky's standard and they said said "thanks for the feedback, we'll considerate that for next year". They refused to give an type of refund and/or additional goodie bag treats. My friends who got to this event later in the evening, got some additional stuff in their goodie bag, but still not worth the $30 price tag. Don't waste your time ladies. Spend the money on happy hour with your girlfriends or hit the mall.

Ahem, no.
Let me get this straight: Shecky's charges all of the sponsors (gift bag donors, vendors, etc), and then...charges the guests. So, they are making money both ways, and still throw a pretty lackluster event...over and over and over again.
$15 got me...entrance to pay more money at pretty mediocre booths filled with crappy jewelry and clothes straight outta Rave. Oh, and some free sponsored cocktails. Wait, that wasn't free...it actually cost me $15. I could've stayed at Sepia and got all drunk and happy on good booze!
I mean really, midori margaritas like...3 years in a row? Let's mix things up, folks!
Union station is gorgeous, but this event was a mess. Why? Glad you asked...
1. No coat check...it's MARCH. It's a shopping event, there is PLENTY of space, do a coat check.
2. No food. At all. Don't be acting like you can't get restaurants up in here...you cannot serve cocktails and beer for 5 hours and have ZERO food. Not only is it bad form, it's downright irresponsible. My group busted outta there and straight to Greektown.
3. Poorly laid out, all of the booths smashed into the middle, 3-4 women deep. Even if I wanted to look at that sequined, laced, spandex halter...I wouldn't have been able to.
4. No girly vendors. I've been to GenArts events with hair, makeup, fun stuff all around. This was...eh.
The good:
The goodies bags are pretty stellar, but then again...that's all Shecky's is known for, right? Goodie bags. Well, Ok then...maybe next time I'll just have them mail it to me and skip this whole thing altogether :)
It's definitely skippable. -
Review from Amanda Z.
Alright, learned my lesson...Shecky's isn't really worth it.
Granted, I made sure I got my goody bag and a few cocktails to make it "worth my money"...but the cocktails were not really exciting, the lines were very long, and there was no food. If you're offering free cocktails for several hours, find someone to sponsor some eats up in here, alright?
I totally dug the goody bags...but that does not make the whole "shopping experience" better. I came willing to be seduced into buying some stuff I didn't need, but just had to have. Unfortunately, my time for "having to have" cheap, barely there tops and rayon all-in-one pantsuits (ugh, does anyone have to have those??) has passed. I bought nothing.
Furthermore, it was poorly organized and arranged. The line was out the door onto Jackson, and when you walked into the main area the booths were all crammed in right next to each other. It was very hard to manuever.
The best part of the night? Leaving and hitting up serious Greek goodness for some grub with my fabulous friends.*
Sorry, Shecky, your party sucks.
* The second best part of the night was going over to my boyfriend's place, showing him my loot in this order: "Trojan with a vibrating ring, hair ties, and Krazy glue..." and then looking at his horrified face. I explained that they weren't meant to be used together, but I don't know how convinced he was. -
Review from Dee W.
This event wavers between 3 and 3.5 stars. The setup of the event could have been better and there should have been better signage around the Great Hall at Union Station.
Cons first..
-there was no food and all this alcohol, made Rachel G and I leave early to go grab some grub
-a lot of boutiques were there but the deals weren't as good as we had hoped for
-Goody bags - I saw ppl with free panties in their bag and I didn't get one!!
Pros..
-if you signed up early - it was two for one ticket deal for $30 so $15 apiece
-the goody bags were overall decent - we had two full sized bottles of product and a new hairbrush and sample sized stuff
-drinks were good - yay for Midori margaritas, cute little mini bottles of wine that I kept and sipped out of with a straw, Bacardi Silver mojitos - yum
All in all, we had a decent time, enjoyed some good drinks, checked out some clothes, jewelry, makeup, sex toys, and ended up only purchasing some cute stationary. -

Why did I bother coming to this event? Oh, that's right. I was looking for a fun evening with some spectacular deals on fashionable clothes and accessories.
FAIL. FAIL. FAIL. FAIL.
1. it took 30-40 minutes to get my name checked off JUST TO GET IN THE DOOR, with people cutting the line all over the place. Which meant I was in a fuming bad mood about the event before I even got in.
2. Not a single bargain to be seen. In fact, one of the vendors was charging even more for her goods than she does on her web site!!!
3. Free drinks. that is if you like midori and holding a glass that looks like you're drinking antifreeze. but thank you for that one drink.
4. Vendors. Not enough variety. silver jewelry. Clothes that come in Small, Smaller, and Barbie. The majority of the women at this event couldn't fit into any of these! Wise up, fashion world.
I can't comment on the goodie bag, as I didn't buy into it. What I saw other people pulling out included a disposable razor, glue, full size toothpaste, elastic hair bands, some sort of shampoo - didn't look like it was worth any $100 as claimed, more like $15-30.
Shecky's, this was a monumental waste of my time, that could have been improved upon with better/more signage, organization at the front desk, a bowl of crackers, and more vendor variety than clothes and low end jewelry - how about some services? and I don't mean manicures (too slow) Financial planning is way sexier than any lycra tube top! -

Very disappointed. Came prepared for lots of vendors and ready to shop. Not so much. The place was over crowded. The vendors were 1.) rude and didn't seem to want to be there 2.) crammed together and since there were so many people there you couldn't even get close to see what was going on and 3.) racist; apparently you can't ask questions if you're white. Shame on me! I can't believe how much they hyped the goodie bag considering that it had rubber bands, deodarent and luna bars in it. What a waste of time. Could even get a free small drink because the line was a mile long. I'd actually love a refund!

I agree with all the other reviewers. I'm glad I went once but I won't be back again.
You pay $25 to stand in a line behind 100 other women outside of Union Station only to get in to stand in mulitiple lines to do anything.
I likes some of the clothing vendors but everything I fit on kind of fit weird and I felt very pressured to by right then because most of the vendors are from out of states... I don't like to be pressured !
Lots of cute accesories but there are also lots of cute accesories in the Wholesale District that are 1/3 the price.
The gift bags are way over rated, and heavy to carry around all night... what made them heavy you ask... well mine had 2 bottles of Suave bodywash. Yeah they are like $1.99 a bottle at Target, not impressed, in hindsight I should have just taken them out to save my self from carrying them around all night... but with all the excitment of free things that I really paid for it never occured to me. Some of the stuff is cool .... well I really only liked the lip gloss I got and lets be honest I don't need any more lip gloss... I have enought for 3 lifetimes.
Spend your money and time doing something else ! -
Review from Lauren K.
Well we started the night out with seeing a druggie get arrested in the bathroom. That was kinda cool. Bathrooms were atrocious otherwise, its fitting...I know its a train station, but you'd think that they'd at least clean it up a LITTLE since there's an event going on and all that...guess not.
The event was crowded. There was a HUGE space but it was all stuffed in the middle of the venue and you could barely get to any of the tables without waiting first. And ladies! Come on, where's your manners? If I had a nickle for every time someone pushed me out of the way with their goodie bag I'd be a rich woman..
Lack of coat check completely sucks in my book.
I thought it was supposed to be more of a hand-made, DIY event....There were so many mass-manufactured type jewelry stands though. No thanks, I can buy that stuff like, in the mall, like.
The drinks were free and there wasn't a limit. We love a free drink (=
Goodie bags were kinda fun to explore when we got home. Mine contained well over $15 worth of stuff. Some full sized products, a cute eye shadow, Intuition Razor...way too many tampons....toothpaste, etc. Eh, its free I'll take it.
I'm glad there wasn't an admission fee. My friend and I arrived there around 7pm on Thursday and didn't have to wait in any lines. My suggestion would be, if you have the free time, go check it out next year, but maybe skip the goody bag. And if you can, go without a coat. -
Review from Nancy H.
I've gone three times in a row (I think Shecky's comes twice a year to Chicago), and each time had their pros/cons. For example, the first time I went, there were free makeovers and manicures (+) but no food (-). The second time I went, they had no salon services (-), prettier jewelry IMO (+), finger foods (+), and added wine (+). This latest time I went, there was no food (-), but Bacardi was one of the sponsors, and I now love Bacardi Watermelon (++)! Garnier was also styling hair, and massages were available (+).
The goodie bags are pretty standard--hair care products, hair ties, sometimes earrings, sometimes a book/magazines, and bath samples. And I always end up buying jewelry (for a small percentage off their retail price), and I've got a handful of new websites (the vendors from Shecky's) I now check when I e-shop. I would have given this 5 stars if I could just get through the lines for a manicure, hair style, or massage!!!!!
Overall, for the $30 admission+goodie bag (they recently upped it from $25), it's not worth it unless you get plastered. However, if you buy during their promotional time, it is $30 for your ticket and a friend's, so it comes out to $15/person. For that price, it is worth it. And the items in your goodie bag definitely add up to $30+, but they're not all useful. Very convenient, though, as the whole event takes place in the main hall at Union Station, so citydwellers and suburbanites have easy access. Thankfully, many of the vendors accept credit cards now. -

This event definitely gets a meh!
My group didn't get there until 7 so we didn't have to wait in the line that sounds oh so shitty. We saw everything in about 30 minutes, didn't drink since florescent colored drinks aren't our thing (thank God we drank & ate before going) seriously NO FOOD??!!!
Oh & was that really a bud light & cheese tasting going on - women drink wine Shecky!
I did get a pair of earrings that may turn green, but overall I think they could have made it SOOOO much better. -
Review from Stacy C.
I know I'm only giving this three stars, but overall I still recommend it to the ladies out there who like to drink and shop.
The event was set up in the Great Hall in Union Station, but for some reason certain booths were crowded together, creating long lines. Alcohol was plentiful and flowing freely, but there was no food whatsoever, so I was buzzed almost immediately! (I'm sure that's all part of the master plan to get people to buy more overpriced accessories.) They were offering massages, but all of the 5 minute appointments were booked by the time I got there at 6. I was pretty disappointed in the clothes, as there was a smaller selection than I had hoped and they weren't very discounted. However, I did get two beautiful necklaces and a new vibrator. I entered several raffles and won a free haircut, and my friend actually won an $800 alligator skin clutch!
The goodie bags were totally worth the fee of $30 for two people (if you sign up early enough). They accidentally gave me two goodie bag tickets, and so I discovered that some of the bags were better than others. Some of my goodies were:
-Full size Redken hair product
-Round hairbrush
-Panties
-Full size body butter
-Hair ties
-Teeth whitening tray sample
-Magazine
-Fugly beaded necklace
-Intuition razor
-CD from a band I've never heard of nor would ever listen to
The lack of food and the fact that it was inexplicably NINETY DEGREES inside contribute to the three star rating, but it was a fun way to spend a Thursday night with girlfriends and a nice break from my usual bar-hopping routine. Might be a fun mother-daughter outing too, if you're into the whole "speaking to your parents" thing. -

I went to one of these a couple of months back...YUCK! What a waste of time. I paid $10 for a goodie bag (got some promo, they are normally like $15). Let me tell you what was in the goodie bag...a razor, shampoo hair dye for gray hair, a brush, some eye drops, and a bunch of SH$$ that you probably get for free with mail in coupons...totally not worth it.
The set up is kind of a disaster. There are lots of clothing things but really no where to try them on at. There really wasnt much else. A couple of other things like candles, food, puremed spa....nothing to write about. Honestly, I would save your time and not go to this. There are free drinks, however they give you like a shot of wine so its really annoying to have to keep going to the booths to get more. The one cool thing that they did have was a beer tasting thing. It was kind of cool, nothing too crazy, but you did get a take home glass....the highlight of the event! LOL -

When I first when, the ticket price was $20 or $25, you received a goodie bag with great stuff, free drinks (Midori is a sponsor, as is Amstel), and some free samples from the vendors. This spring, ticket prices went up to $30 for the goodie bag + entry ($10 for entry only).
The goodie bag is all it is proclaimed to be. Las year mine had: full-sized bottles of hair products, jewelry, nail polish, coupons, a single serving wine bottle, full-sized hand wash, and many samples of things.
Even better are the vendors--many are local fashion/jewelry designers, boutique owners, salon owners and other area businesses (Crunch, for example). Because many are independent, they are willing to "wheel and deal." I got $10 off the purchase of 2 necklaces by bargaining with the designer (I would have only purchased one, otherwise). I also picked up full-size samples at several tables--one was a great conditioner by Rene Frutrer.
The downsides: long and sometimes confusing lines and no snacks. Having no readily accessible food is hard on the system, especially if you are downing free drinks! -

I wish I checked this before buying a ticket and attending! All of these women have it spot on. BIG GIANT MEH. It's super-crowded and the vendors aren't anything you can't get at Akira or other boutiques in the city.
I won't go again.
5 Stars on the goodie bag! I'm still sifting through my loot now. -

I'm glad I went once, I may not go again though.
It was just so crowded! I'm glad I got a few drinks in a line that seemed to take forever. I'm glad they let us double fist.
I did end up grabbing a little silk dress and two little cheap fun necklaces, the goody bag was also worth $15.
And the bathrooms....wow i won't even go there. -

Oh Shecky's, I so used to be your bitch. I remember the first time we met, years ago. I got a beyond kick ass goodie bag and Midori cocktails galore. There was even a set up in the back with old video games. I became a drunk Pac-Man whore. A drunk Visa carrying Pac-Man whore - but I forgave you, even when I got my statement. Now, your goodie bags officially suck, and you've dried up like a prune in your old age, taking the free flowing liquor with you - cuz standing in a half hour line for a free cocktail is not for me. See you when you get your shit back together.

Skip it. I would have rated this event one star save for the drinks and one original vendor.
The jewelry represented a lame array of sourced chinese beads (save one who I will review). The clothing was a sad mix of poorly sized, unfashionable fare, and the food was non-existent.
I didn't feel the need to get a goody bag, but did understand that the items in them were "rockin" as a friend put it. However, I don't need more junk in my house that might or might not be used.
Pass on this event. There are better and more creatively stocked affairs throughout Chicago. Why waste your time? -

Pretty disappointed with the April 7th 2011 Sheckys GNO. The vendors have gone down hill big time! No one interesting or of decent quality was there. The beverages have been limited and the overall atmosphere was severely lacking. Thank god for the V-day goodie bag deal... I have friends that wasted the $30.00 on a bag full of hair ties, luna bars and CRAP! I'm starting to think that Sheckys GNO is a thing of the past. One free drink is not worth my while!

I really am torn on how to rate Shecky's Girls Night Out because it didn't live up to my expectations at all, but it seems like everyone else enjoyed it which is a good thing. I went last night with Andrea W and we were in and out in probably 20 minutes. The booths were crammed into this little area in the middle of the Great Hall at Union Station which I thought was odd. They should have spread out the booths a bit more- with all that room it was odd that everyone was crammed in. Anyway, it is a sample sale for local designers which is a great idea and usually I am all about that but I really wasn't impressed with anything there. I did get a pair of earrings but other than those, I couldn't find anything I wanted. Some of the items looked like they were going to fall apart the first time you used them and others seemed ok, but overall I wasn't that impressed. I did go on the 2nd night though, so maybe all the great items sold out the first day. Who knows!

If you enjoy waiting in a giant line to check in, to then jump in another line to get a 1oz shot of wine, paying for a crapola goodie bag with samples of bad product, then this is the place for you. Don't waste your time or money - I wish I would have read these reviews before going!!!!! I'm right with you ladies!

OK, I have enough lube now to last me a lifetime, but I do Love girls night out! It's perfect for friends to hang out and SHOP while being plied with liquor. As a seasoned Sheckys fan, I know to eat before getting there, or walking upstairs (above the train platform) to the food court and grabbing a little something to hold me over. I scored lots of awesome jewelry that are definitely conversation pieces! I'm sorry to hear so many unhappy people attended this year. I'm not sure if they had wine this time, but they usually do. Times are tough though so it's possible that they lost some sponsors this year, hence no wine since all the alcohol is sponsored by alcohol companies. Goodie bags are not as great as they used to be but I still think it's worth the $15 or $30 depending on if you got the discount. I like the variety of items I received in my goodie bag and have become a fan of many of the vendors. I definitely look forward to Sheckys. Hopefully more women will see how nice it is and will continue supporting it. Definitely beats style Chicago,

My friend & I did the Shecky's Girls Night Out last year and loved it. I get the tickets early so it's only $15 per person w/gift bag, still $10 w/o a bag. Needless to say, I am now addicted to Midori Martinis, as they were free and the bartender was very cute...Oh, yes, there is a lot of shopping, although the lines for the make-over/manicure are not really worth waiting in. I suggest you flirt with the bartenders and get free drinks and shop. What a good marketing gimmick- get women drunk and sell them things. Anyway, we both had a great time there. I love the little independent shops, and even bought the cutest pair of designer denim for less than $100 (I never pay that much for jeans, but heck, I was tipsy and the jeans looked really cute, and were actually cheaper than in the store). Also, I get all the cards from the merchants as they are online and a lot of them have very cute things as well at reasonable prices. I don't think it is worth the $30 price tag if you don't plan on having a few drinks there. The drawback is that there really is no food, at least not at this one, so plan on picking up your dinner beforehand.

I wish I had read some reviews before going. It was a cluster****!!! way too many people. It was difficult to even see anything at any of the booths because it was so crowded. It was about 100 degrees inside with no air on and alot of the vendors were pretty much crap. There was one decent vendor and I bought a gold necklace from her that's the only thing I bought there. The goody bag was full of things like deodorant, toothpaste and heart-shaped sunglasses for a six year old ...odd?? It was an intresting concept but they really need to organize the event better and serve food! The only food they had was a piece of chocolate that they were having you try and a cupcake but..you can only have a cupcake if you fill out a form on fertility!! there was a fertility vendor! I just wanted the damn cupcake. I didn't want to fill anything out so I passed. It was pretty mucha waste of money. Tickets were $20 online plus tax and $30 at the door. Def not going back next time!!
