Been coming here for my haircuts for as long as I could remember, and it's hilarious because the stylists here have pretty much watched me grow up--and have actually seen palpable changes since I come here about once every three months or so.  Which still works out for me, since I'm now a college student on the quarter system and I get my haircut here, and only here, when I fly back up from socal.

Granted, I haven't always loved the look of my hair since my mother instructed the stylists keep it short (it was some thing having to do with me concentrating on my studies, not looks.  Apparently my grades weren't all that hot so that totally backfired on her.  Should've let me grow out my hair, haha.)  But I digress.  Now that I'm older, I actually elect to have my hair cut super short, shorter than my own dear mother would actually allow.  I admit that my hair is pretty disagreeable at times but I appreciate the insight the stylists offer while cutting my hair, so most of the time I'm satisfied with the result (up until it starts growing out and becomes a pain in the butt to take care of it).

I recommend this place, and I'm a girl of action--the last 4 times I've been here, I've introduced new clientele to Shavonne.  It's a quality cut.

This place isn't crowded. It is a few dollars more expensive then hair places around san jose. (about 5 mins away from this place)

They tend to fall into the same habit when cutting guy's hair. Most asian guys have flat hair, so they can cut it really short. Most people I know prefer it that way too.

However, I have poofy and wavy hair. So if they cut it short, it sticks up almost like a fro. I keep telling them to leave the top part of the hair long. This added length keeps my hair down. However, they fell into their old habit during the middle and cut my hair short. (He was even talking on his cell phone)

Next time they don't follow directions, i'm not going to tip them. They're already charging more for comparable service.

This is 5th hair place I've been to. I gotta find another one.

Basically, ever since I was a toddler, I've come here to get my hair cut.  So this is also a somewhat biased review, but I really like this place.

If you don't want to get surprised by a lot of people waiting, have their phone number in your phonebook and call ahead of time to see if there are a lot of people.  My mom usually calls and when we get there, there is rarely a long wait.

This is no Hollywood salon, but you don't have to pay the Hollywood price either for a great cut.  All the stylists have a good eye and are willing to offer suggestions.  They might offer an alternative hairstyle based on your face structure, but if you really insist, they will cut it however you please.

The shampoo feels so nice, it's like a head massage and I sometimes take a nap while they shampoo, lol.  They're very focused when they cut and make sure you are please with the finished product.  If not, they will make the adjustments until it's okay, no offense taken.  It's about $15-$25 range, depending on how fancy you get.  The shampoo is extra, but I always get shampooed anyway.

Side anecdote: Carol let me hold her pomeranian once, and it is so fluffy and well groomed and well behaved.  Don't be freaked out when you see a dog in a hair salon, the dog is clean I promise.

I came here cause of the reviews, and I must say that I wasn't disappointed.

It wasn't crowded at all, and the lady was very nice and friendly. She definitely listened to what I had to say about what I wanted, and asked me questions about it later. After the haircut, she showed me the back length and asked if I wanted it shorter - normally I would have just said "its fine" but I felt comfortable enough asking her to redo it to be shorter. The lady happily obliged.

At first she was really talkative and asking me questions, but after realizing that I was kinda tired and stressed out from work, she just let me be while smiling and cutting my hair. Total with tip was 15 bucks.

4 stars!

I used to go here about 5 years ago and went back during the week.I went at 6:30 even though they close at 7. As I was waiting, I read the board for prices. It is $16 for a haircut and $18 for cut and wash. A cute Pomeranian was roaming the place. Jimmy rinsed and washed my hair. After I sat down for a my haircut, Jimmy handed me several magazines to look at, which was nice of him.

I had a picture of what I wanted but did not necessarily follow that. Jimmy made suggestions which I liked. Throughout the cut, he would stop and ask if he should make it shorter, etc. It was nice during the cut to say can you give me more bangs, etc rather than hating it at the end when it is too late to make changes. Jimmy was friendly, he has been cutting hair for 17 years and definitely worth visiting for a cut. I love the my haircut and definitely will go back to him in a month or two.

For $20 (including wash and cut) before tip, this is a reasonable place. I believe they only accept cash. Can't beat the service, friendliness, and price.

The barbers here are outstanding.  One in particular has even gotten better over time.  In terms of price/quality combination, this can't be beaten, especially for men's hair.

Agreed with most reviews here. Not fancy, but effective.
For $12 guy's haircut, it's definitely good value for the money.

Family owned and operated.  Cozy place and Carol has the cutest pomeranian in the world.  I usually have kevin cut my hair and its recommended that you call and make an appointment with him, especially if its for a friday, saturday, or sunday.

Come during the morning time!!  There might be a bit of a wait when the kids start to get out of school and when people get off work!

I saw the reviews here and decided to give Jimmy a try.

First of all I called ahead and told the lady that I would be there at certain time and she told me that it will be $18 for a cut.   However, I still had to wait for 30min after arriving.

Then Jimmy showed up, he asked me if I was shampooed. I said no, then he led me to the back to shampoo without telling me that will be extra $5 which I found out when I paid.

The cut was fine, I liked it.
I brought a pic of what I want and he followed and gave me some suggestions.

When the cut was done, he took a flat iron. I told him to curl my hair instead of flattening it..
So he started curling the bottom of my hair. He told me that he would just curl it a little bit. I thought I shouldn't bother him too much to curl my whole hair since the styling part is included in the fee for a cut.
Turned out, I was wrong, he charged me another $5 for the "half curled hair".

I was looking for a economical place for a trim..but I ended up paying the same price as the Focus in Fremont which IMO is way more stylish and updated.

The bill was $30.
The cut was $25 ( which is $7 difference from what the lady told me on the phone, Jimmy said for long hair it's $20 and $5 for shampoo. However I did not know that shampoo costs otherwise I wouldn't have shampooed there since I just did that morning, furthermore, some places include shampoo in the service for free)
Plus, the shampoo was not even at average level. It's too light and sloppy. Hardly any massage.
Styling $5  - since he's  charging for the service, how could he say" I am going to just curl it for a little bit?"..maybe he should let me know that there will extra fee for styling,  and ask me if I still want to and what style I want.

Overall the cut was fine, but my suggestion for my friends will be -
remember to ask for the prices for whatever this guy Jimmy does.

I'll admit this is a biased review since I've been going to them for a long time.  Their price is reasonable, $10-$25 for a haircut.  This salon doesn't take reservations as all their customers are return customers who walk in as if they own the place; if you're not the waiting type it's better to call ahead in case all their stylists are busy when you walk in.  They're not the type to cater to you unless they know you as a return customer.

They offer the Japanese straight perm, best in the Bay Area in my opinion.  It's not cheap (last time I think I paid $250?); also be prepared to sit on your butt for 4-5 hours since that's how long the perm takes to set.   It's worth the agony though.  No more blow-drying and straightening your hair until the roots grow out.

Go there only if you know exactly what kind of hair style you want.  Carol does a really through job with haircuts and her style works well with Asian faces.  My husband uses this salon too.

Oh yeah, bring cash.  They don't card.

What a pleasant surprise!  I randomly found this place one day after getting my car smog checked at a gas station across the street.  I had a second degree burn on my arm so I was dreading washing my hair and getting my arm wet.  When I saw that it was only $12 for shampoo & blow dry, I decided to give this place a try.

This is not a fancy salon, but it is a lot nicer than the small hole-in-the-wall places you'd find in Chinatown .  The interior was clean and spacious.  I waited for about 10 minutes and decided to get a trim after checking out the stylists.  At the end, the shampooing was good, the trimming was ok, and the styling was average.  All for a whopping $20+tip.

This is not the place if you are looking for a life-changing, jealousy-inducing, post-breakup cut.  But if you burnt your arm and would rather that someone else get their arms wet, this is the perfect place.

They don't take credit cards, but personal checks are ok.

They cut my hair every time i need to get one and every time they cut my hair it looks fantastic. Sometimes there is a wait but its worth the wait. They ask and listen to you about the way you want your hair cut, and it comes out the way you want it. I always go every month or two, I even recommended my friend to them and he was satisfied with the way they cute his hair.

Ok, this place is no swanky hair salon.  You will not get all the perks of more up-scale salons, but if you want a decent cut at a decent price this place is for you.  DH has been going here for several years and overall we've been happy.  They don't suggest styles unless you ask for advice--you tell them how you want your hair cut and they will execute.  I've been going here for a while and next time I'll bring my daughter in too.  The only caveat with this place is that sometimes they don't understand exactly what you're saying and you end up with a different cut than you imagined.  So be sure to either bring a picture or explain to the best of your ability what you want and hope they understand.  Despite this slight inconvenience, I really like this place.  I also like it because it's family owned.
