Shannon is one of the greatest tattoo artist ive had the pleasure to meet. She doesnt work in a tattoo shop which makes the experience so much more personal with Shannon and she puts on some good music to set the mood and she is just so easy and relaxing to talk to. She gives reasonable rates for A+ artwork. Little bit of a long wait on the appointment list but totally worth it.

Just wanted to chime in to sing more praises for the lovely Shannon....I came to her with a small, badly done flower tattoo on my lower back that I wanted transformed into a piece of art...she understood EXACTLY what I was envisioning. After several sessions, a lot of pain, and A LOT of money (talent doesn't come cheap, friends), I have a beautiful back piece that I am confident I will love for the rest of my life. I have gotten countless compliments on the design and artistry of my unique tattoo, and couldn't be happier with it.
Shannon is not only amazing at what she does, but a joy to spend time with! She managed to make me laugh through the pain of a needle going over my ribcage for 2 hours...now that is a feat.
Can't recommend her enough. Don't cheap out, invest in some quality ink. Shannon, thanks again. -

I should start by saying that I haven't yet been tattooed by Shannon. But I have to say that I can't wait until I can say that I have been! There are a lot of talented artists in this city, but her style definitely stands apart from the rest, and her skill is a tier above the rest. She's also incredibly kind, sincere, and she's easy to get along with.
Hopefully it will be sooner than later that I can update this review, after getting a tattoo from her :) -

I have been looking for an artist for years now that would do a purely white ink tattoo for me. The majority of folks I have asked have had crappy attitudes, and as Shannon said "forgot that fundamentally they work in the service industry".
Shannon is WONDERFUL! Great, simple storefront, very welcoming atmosphere, incredibly clean, organized and professional. She also happens to be a total sweetheart that's wonderfully talented. I got exactly what I wanted. I drove two hours to have Shannon do the work, and the drive was completely justified.
As I told her as I walked out the door, I'll be back for more very soon! Thanks, Shannon- see you soon! -

Shannon Archuleta, by far, has to be one of the coolest tattoo artists I've ever met in my life. Heck, she's a wonderful person all the way around. Warm smile, sweet laugh, fantastic taste in music, interesting stories, crazy talented skills that she could probably tattoo in her sleep. No joke, people! Call me a sick individual but getting a tattoo hurts so good. I know, I know -- weirdo! However, Shannon definitely understands my love and appreciation for body art and the strange euphoric feeling of getting a tattoo done.
On top of her awesome personality, she's an amazing artist! Her eye for detail and her years of expertise show. It's one thing to have an eye for composition on a canvas or a piece of paper but her translation of someones nascent idea into an entire concept laid onto the skin is remarkable. From Art Nouveau to Dia de los Muertos to Asian ornamental to friggin' Picasso inspired concepts, Shannon makes magic. Keep in touch with her via e-mail and call her. Don't worry about being persistent, she definitely has a busy schedule. -

QUALITY....EXPERIENCE...METICULOUS ATTENTION TO DETAIL...accept no substitute folks, this is as good as it gets
1. unreal talent as an artist
2. quality work - clean lines, no fading, no touchups
3. very little pain - she knows when to let off for just a moment
4. straightforward - was my first tat and she told me just what to expect
5. tuned in - she watches your body cues carefully to make sure you are comfortable
I was a difficult tat virgin and she handled me well...i've had nothing but compliments on my tat...i hand out her card and info multiple times each week because people stop me constantly to find out what amazing artist did my work...shannon is absolute quality and people can see it...definitely check her gallery and make your appointment -

A true artist. I found out about Shannon when did a huge beautiful tattoo on my friend's back. I got my first tattoo long ago and never thought about the artistry of a tattoo. It was flat, boring, like a rubber stamp on my hip. Shannon has an eye for color and design. My new tattoo pops off my skin and wows all that I show it to. She always asked for my input too. She happens to be my neighbor which I didn't know before I met her. I'm proud to support a local business and a wonderful person.
+ 5 Stars for excellent music played during the process and shout out to Ouchy Otter who I squeezed during the pain. -

I found Shannon... partly word of mouth, partly from looking at her portfolio back at brain drops. I saw that her work was done with such detail it just amazed me. I knew i wanted a tattoo by her.
She took a lot of time with me to make sure things were done just right and to my liking. I really appreciated that she cared more about what I thought than just making a quick buck. She really makes you feel welcome and at ease.
So after my first initial tattoo(s) with her, me and my bf had scheduled to do a matching tattoo. Shannon's shop wasn't even finished yet and she somehow pulled a miracle over the weekend before and got it all ready for our monday appt. We go there and the place looked great.. She did a fantastic job creating her new studio.
My bf went first and got done quickly. Not only were we the first to get tattoo'd there, but also to be the first to get towed. Lol.. yeah, after he was done, I went to check on my car and low and behold, it's gone.
Shannon is SO fantastic, she even drove me and him to the car return place here in the city to buy my car back.... And then met us back at the treat studio to start and finish my tattoo. If this doesn't spell out excellence as a human and tattoo artist, well... maybe your just extremely picky.
Thanks Shannon for being so damn awesome. I'll be seeing you soon.
PS. never park on 18th from 4pm-6pm... I learned the hard way. -

Shannon is a TRUE artist. She listens to your ideas and turns them into something that you would've never imagined. To top it off, she has a very friendly and sweet personality- a characteristic that many tattoo artists lack. She charges a whopping $160/hr, but it is definately worth the lifetime investment.
Upon my arrival, I told her I only brought $180 with me, hoping that would be enough since my tattoo wasn't that big and I was getting it in black and gray. She was very patient with sizing and contributed her thoughts on what looked best. When we began our tattoo session, I was amazed at how much it didn't hurt. She has a very light touch! As we reached the $180 mark, only my outline was finnished and we scheduled another appointment to get it filled in. It looks amazing so far, and I can't wait till it's complete! When I was about to pay her the $180, she said, "I'll make it $160 so you can get something to eat." She's such a sweetheart!
She's booked several months in advanced, so I reccomend that you make an appointment with her A.S.A.P. The only downside is that her studio is located in one of the shady parts of San Francisco, but that's not her fault. Be sure you bring your boyfriend or some sort of self-defense weapon just in case.
Shannon's work will get you many compliments. -

This review is for Shannon as a wonderful woman and as an amazing artist. She's both. But I think that these two parts of her deserve their own reviews!
I got my first tattoo from Shannon. She immediately put me at ease because she's so easygoing and friendly, she laughs from the heart, and she really cares about what she does. She listens to soothing music while she concentrates. She's the type of person you'd love to hang out with because she's so easy to talk to.
As an artist, Shannon is top-notch. Her studio is filled with beautiful sketches. I went to her with two keywords for my white tattoo--swirly and heart--and the design she drew out for me was perfect. The tattoo came out wonderful! I would not hesitate to go back to Shannon for a second or third tattoo because I know that she is dedicated to her art, and she is great at it. -

My first ever tattoo was in (Chelsea) New York at Dragon ******. it was the worst experience of my life. I loved the tat, because i designed it but the tattoo artist had no freaking compassion and was very cold (Not to mention expensive as all get out).
When i moved to SF two years ago, i stumbled into braindrop on haight. I met this very outgoing young lady (shannon)and she agreed to tat me up. The tat was simple but ment a lot, Shannon was inviting, non judgmental, warm, friendly, funny and she's got mad sick style and technique. I didn't feel hardly anything and it's going down my spin.
A year later, she's got her own spot so i went back to her with an idea. not only did she understand my idea, she ripped that **** right out of my head and put it on paper. She's absolutely amazing. She's already started on it and DAMN! it's my whole back (loves it), the detail alone is awesome. I have a few more sessions. Shading is next. Can't wait to see all the detail when she's finished. keep and eye out. i'll post the finished work up here so you can see first hand if you haven't already how fresh and sick this women is.
Not only do i go to Shannon but i've brought my Roommate to her to get his shoulder/half sleeve tat of a Koi Fish, his mom went a few weeks ago and got her first tat on her ankle(she loved her so much she's flying back down from seattle to get her second one done from her sometime this fall). the list goes on. i can talk and talk and talk but you got to see for yourself, she's incredible. Go get your tatt, you'll see. -

I can't say enough great things about Shannon and her work. In addition to her incredible talent as an artist, she's personable and sweet. I was in such a superb head space after she finished my tattoo (which, by the way, is incredible--it's script, which can look awful if not done well, but her work is unbelievably precise) that I immediately booked a consultation for my next piece.
She's very, very popular, so expect to wait months for an appointment, but it's more than worth it. -

She is brilliantly deft with the ink gun.
In my situation, she's done AMAZING work on my arm, which are a row of blackletter fonts , and I will say that I get tons of compliments on the precision and richness of the blacks and form of letters.
Currently, she is fixing a back piece that I got years early, by another artist, and the difference in craftsmanship is night and day. It's par-finished, but I still get people asking to snap pix of my back or ask me where I got it done.
Her personality is charming and bubbly, making the pains of getting work done, go by a lot easier. It's not shop like most place of the drag or strip, no hipsters or flunkies hanging out, so if that's your thing, go to some other place.
The shop itself is a private studio, very clean. Shannon is very meticulous about hygiene and procedure, so first-timers, this is the ideal place!
In closing, I wish all my tattoos over the years had been done by Shannon. In fact, I am going to ask to redo all of my old ones and embellish them with her artistic prowess. You hear that Shannon!?

I just got my bougainvillea tattoo finished. It turned out great! Check out the pics in my profile.
The most important thing was how comfortable Shannon made me feel. After my numbing cream wore off, the tattoo hurt quite a bit. For the first time in a long time, I was able to sit for a tattoo without squirming a lot. I did tense up, and I was pretty much at my limit at the end. But I survived it. Shannon allowed me to take a short break, and her music helped distract me from the pain.
Thank Shannon for the beautiful tattoo!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Shannon is wonderful, funny, and ultra-talented!!! Although getting a tattoo isn't the most pleasant feeling for me she made me feel better by giving me, "ouchie otter." I thought that was cute because it shows how much she cares about her clients. She made me feel comfortable and always asked how I was doing. I love all the artwork I have seen from her and would definitely go back to her if I decide to get another tattoo....check her out if you want a tattoo!

Shannon is a wonderful artist, she listened to what I wanted and helped me to figure out placement and size. She is very accurate and careful, even when I was walking around with just the outline, no color, folks were literally stopping me in the streets to ask who had executed such a lovely subtle and detailed work. Now that the color is done, its absolutely lovely. I would definitely recommend her to anyone. She is a really welcoming person, and an amazing artist.

I just got home from my first tattoo with Shannon. She was so awesome! I was really nervous before going in, and can be picky and indecisive about many things, especially when it lasts forever! I loved her drawing right away, and after talking together for awhile we changed a few things until it was absolutely perfect. I didn't feel like she was rushing me or in any way bothered by suggestions or questions about the design. Then two and a half hours later, after great music, nice conversation, helpful encouragement when it REALLY hurt, and I have a gorgeous tattoo that I love! Would recommend her hands down to anyone. Not only was the tattoo experience great, but it was fun to spend the afternoon with Shannon, she's truly wonderful.

After four months and four excruciating sessions (on the ribcage), I finally have a completed Shannon Archuleta tattoo. All I can say is Shannon is amazingly talented and I could not be happier. She can master any style, be it art nouveau, tribal, traditional--really, anything. (Just check out her amazing gallery.)
She's a joy to spend time with--funny, sweet, and very happy. You will get no attitude from her. Also, she LOVES what she does and takes the time to make any tattoo the best it can be. Whatever you want, she'll be sure to elevate and improve upon your idea, giving you something truly unique and custom.
She's a busy lady, so be prepared to wait for your appointment(s). But she is so worth it. -

Shannon is an AMAZING artist. I got my first tattoo when I was 19 at some dude's house and it didn't come out exactly how I had hoped, so when I had an idea for my 2nd tattoo I did a lot of research on artists in the Bay. I found Shannon's website/portfolio and was blown away by her work! When I went to my consultation I told her about my idea, how I wanted it, and paid the $100 deposit(which goes towards your tattoo)... when I came back to see what she had come up I couldn't believe how beautiful the design was! She definitely exceeded my expectations. About 5 sessions later my paisley side piece was complete! I absolutely love my tattoo and I get tons of compliments on it. If you're willing to spend the money on your art you should go to Shannon, if you're looking for some sort of cheap deal this isn't the artist for you. Not only is her work GREAT, she is totally nice and makes you feel really comfortable. I loved the music she played while tattooing (she loves Dolly Parton) and sometimes she'd even sing along, which made getting tattooed a little less excruciating. All in all, my experience with Shannon couldn't have been better.

I can't say it enough, I love Shannon! I stalked her website for a months before hitting her up. Her lines, her color saturation, her blending and shading...it's mind blowing! When I met her, she released the most amazing laugh and I was easily drawn to her. Personality aside, let's talk about her skills!!! My first piece with her consisted of a pineapple, lotus, and lily bouquet. Since floral is an obvious forte of hers, I didn't bring any pics or references. I told her what I wanted, she listened, and drew up something more amazing than I could have ever imagined. When I saw the sketch, I told her I didn't want to change a thing. We both then clapped and jumped up-an-down. Yeah, it's that type of party! I seriously got really sad during my last session. So...I went back for another piece...and I have a deposit still there for a future piece. Shannon is gonna be in my life for awhile, no doubt. I like seeing different artists for different pieces and different styles, but I've decided to dedicate my entire right arm as the "Shannon Arm"...for her and only her to work on. She's the shit! The portfolio speaks for itself.

Shannon gave me my first-ever tattoo last week and I have only the best things to say about my entire experience. I like her cheerful, intimate studio and cute dog; I felt totally welcome and at ease. I asked a lot of questions ahead of time-- because that's just how I am-- and Shannon answered every one of them seriously and never made me feel like a big square dork for asking. She asked questions about the design (which I brought in) and placement and then had me look at the transfer in the mirror so I could make sure everything was just as I wanted. Getting the tattoo hurt but it was tolerable and it helped that Shannon checked in periodically, asking how I was doing and seeing if I needed a break. She let me know what was going on when she was working on parts of my body I couldn't see and those explanations reassured me that I was in good hands. Pain aside, it was just fun to spend a couple hours chatting with Shannon, who is warm, friendly and personable. She gave straightforward instructions for aftercare and the tattoo seems to be healing nicely. I really appreciate all the extra steps Shannon took to make me feel comfortable and secure; it was really the ideal experience for a first tattoo. And yes, the tattoo is beautiful and exactly what I wanted. I'll be recommending Shannon to friends and if I decide to get another tattoo, I will definitely be going back.

I went to Shannon Archuleta recently for my third tattoo by her, mainly because she is just a kick ass and impeccable artist. Of all the tattoo artists I've worked with (total 5), Shannon definitely wins on a lot of levels. I went to her because I wanted a large piece for the right side of my ribs and upper hip area. First of all, she actually listened to what I wanted as far as design, she took a considerable amount of time getting it just how I wanted it, never once complaining about my somewhat vague lack of direction (sometimes it's difficult conveying what you want with tattoos, ya know?). Somehow she knew just what would work, and she came up with a beautiful design. She prepared the transfer, then applied the transfer to my skin. She then took a nice long look at it, and decided it was off by a little bit, maybe angled a bit too far back. She then did what most tattoo artists don't do-or at least the ones without a discerning eye and a lot of patience-she erased it, made a new transfer, and replaced it a few centimeters to the right, so that the pretty flower on the bottom of the design ended up on my hip. Super sexy placement..pure genius..why didn't I think of that?? Because I'm not as artist!! That's' why we pay the big bucks for tattoo art, right? It's gotta be right...If you want the job done right, go to a pro...Shannon's your girl. Oh yeah, she's super light-handed, I kid you not, the ribs didn't hurt that much at all...oh, and her music is rad!!

i had searched high and low for a tattoo artist that is until i saw shannon archuleta's portfolio and i knew that i had found the one.
the piece i am getting is so very important to me and i felt that shannon felt the same way, not sure if i would get that feeling if i walked into a tattoo shop.
i went to my consultation with a clear vision of what i wanted and after talking to shannon my vision changed and she designed a tattoo for me that i never would have dreamt of getting. the end result is the most beautiful tattoo that i could ever have hoped for.
i had my first session almost two weeks ago and it was great. the pain was completely tolerable and shannon made me feel totally relaxed and comfortable. she was done in an hour which was faster then the two hours i expected. the tattoo is completely awesome.
shannon is so talented and such a wonderful person. i am very happy that i found her and the three month long wait was worth it. in fact i thought the three month wait was good for me. it gave me a chance to think about what i was doing and to be confident that i wanted to get it.
i go back next week for the color and feel totally comfortable in her talented hands.
this could not have been a better experience :) -

Shannon has done work on me over the last few years. Not only is she an amazing artist but also has become a friend. She is thorough and honest. Braindrops has been a great place to go see her and have work done, but I am excited to go to her new space and see how her work and life grow. She has the BEST taste in music which is so important to my tattoo experience. I get compliments daily on my ink from Shannon. Thanks!
