I'm really surprised to see negative reviews on this salon.  It's bright, clean, a good portion of the staff speak English (far more than most salons).  The prices are competitive and they bend over backwards to make me happy even though I can be rather finicky.  The last time I visited someone ran out to purchase my favorite color while I was having my acrylics done because they were out of that color.  The onlyhreason I'm giving it 4 stars is because like every other nail salon I have been to aside from the high end spas that charge $120 for a pedicure, the foot massage really isn't a message and doesn't involve the foot much.

I have seen some disappointed customers but those were walk-ins who they couldn't squeeze in on a busy afternoon but scheduled the to come back a little later.

While the spa pedicure was decent enough, overall I am very displeased with my experience at Shangri-La. I made an appointment for a spa pedicure and waxing. Upon my arrival I asked if I could have the waxing done first, so that my sensitive skin could calm down during my pedicure. The ladies kept telling me to just sit in the pedicure chair. Finally someone told me that the waxing lady was not in yet, so I offered to wait because waxing after a pedicure is just not the way I like to get pampered. And it has never been an issue before in any other salon I have visited. Unfortunately the ladies at Shangri-La either do not care or do not listen to the customer and insisted that I sit for the pedicure. I then told the lady sitting at the register (owner/manager?) and the lady doing my pedicure that I would cancel the waxing. I made it very clear that I was willing to wait to have the waxing done first, but the ladies made no effort to listen to my wishes. Then midway through my pedicure the wax lady came into the shop. After she was told by the owner/manager that I canceled my waxing, she tried to stop my pedicure to do the waxing. In fact the lady made several attempts to get me to do the waxing before telling me that the appointment book said my waxing was for 45 minutes after the time I was given. Again I explained to everyone that I have never had to schedule a wax before a pedicure before, but that I would not be doing the waxing after the pedicure due to a sensitive skin issue. Both the owner/manager and the wax lady were visibly irritated and huffy about my unwillingness to do what they wanted. Whatever happened to customer service???
The lady who did my pedicure was fabulous. Very warm and friendly. Too bad she works in this horrid place.
To top off the experience I was charged an additional $5 for my spa pedicure. No mention was made if it was for canceling or not. I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN. EVER. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!

I have been a regular client with this salon and loved everything about them!  I recently had them do the gel nails and loved it so much!  I train and ride horses all day and with the gel nails I no longer have broken and peeling nails!  Now for the bad.... Really really bad!

I was waiting for my friends to finish their mani and pedis and there was a guy in the pedi chair getting his nails worked on. He had one green, lifted and very thick toe nail! FUNGUS!!! I had toe nail fungus and it took 8 yrs to finally clear up. He and the girl were talking about if it looked better from the last time he was in.  He had been coming in for a while trying to treat it! I am never going back there due to the fact that they would actually give this man or anyone a pedi with fungus.  They use jetted spas and that is a breeding ground for this to spread to other clients.  Their tools were being used to file, smooth and clip this nasty nail!  Don't go to any spa if they treat clients with this.  Especially if they use jetted tubs.  They may say that they disinfect but remember that jetted tubs have filters and many channels to clean and if not done with the right chemicals after EACH treatment that fungus is waiting for you.  GROSS!!!

I am so disappointed because I love the owners and got my waxing done there as well. I just can't go back now.  Sorry but everyone should know that they treat anyone even with fungus nails. YUCK!

Stay Away from this salon if you want healthy nails.

I really need to stop going here...

When they first opened the salon was beautiful!! Friendly staff who did an amazing job and spoke English, and it was CLEAN!

It is now one of the worst salons in town, and they charge WAY too much! I have had so many negative experiences, here but I keep going back for some reason or another. This time it was because I'm in a wedding on Sunday and the bride wanted to come here. She made an appt for 5 manicures at the same time, and told them it was a wedding party. When we got there only 4 of us could get our nails done, and one of the bridesmaids had to wait 30 minutes. They also didn't seat us next to each other which was the point of us all going at the same time.

The woman who did my nails did not speak any English. After I told her i like my nails square she proceeded to file half of my nails so rounded they couldn't be filed back down to a square shape. When I would tell her "more squared please" she looked annoyed and kept rounding them.  I got a french manicure, which cost me $20. They must be told to get money before because I would not have paid after she butchered my nails! The white tips are all uneven. The arches are way too high, and when I asked her to re-do one because the arch was too high, she continued to re-do it but make the arches even higher! The owner and the guy who seems to manage the staff were right next to me and could clearly see I wasn't happy but no one asked me if I wanted it re-done. Instead they gossiped and texted on their phones.

Now that I'm home I can see how jagged my nails are. I am so unhappy I want to call them to let them know but I have a feeling no one would care!

I love this place. I've continued to go here since it opened and I get the same results every time; everything is great. The people are nice and they do a thorough job. Sheril always does my eyebrows; I don't trust anyone else do to them. When I get a mani-pedi done, the french manicure is great and it lasts, unlike other salons. When getting my nails done, I always get a nice massage and feel comfortable in their clean, soothing environment. They are very professional and are very friendly.

Just got home from my first visit to Shangri-La.
This place was reccomended to me by my sister who has been here many times before and loves it.
I got the basic acrylic nails done.  White tips.  And let me say, the whole experience was nice and relaxing.  ;-)
Took about 45 minutes total, which in my experience isnt too long.  My nails look wonderful, and i take just one star off because she did make one of my cuticles bleed a tiny bit.  But she was very careful otherwise.
For the full set it cost me $35.  (+tip).  So not too bad.
And being that ALL other good nail salons in Sonoma are closed on Sundays, this will be my go-to place to get my nails done.

    Great job!  And definately reccomended!!!

Best Bikini Wax I have ever had.
Sheryl did my waxing. She used the hard wax- much less pain involved. I have not had one ingrown- and it is the smoothest wax I have ever had.I made an appointment same-day.  I will go no where else for waxing....
However, I do agree with some of the other posts regarding the nail services. I would not receive a pedicure or acrylic from them.
But again- Sheryl is the best...

I really, really enjoy this place... The staff is SO personable. I started coming here when I was in college (living in SF). I came here with my mom who had been going there since the very first week it opened. She raved about it, telling me how much better it was than Top Nails. I laughed at her when she mentioned that... At the time I thought Top Nails was the shit... No joke, I thought it was the best of the best (I was wrong)!

To say the least, I was a bit apprehensive. But to my amazement, they did a WONDERFUL job... And the actual shop is very quaint and cute. In a way, they're my "Salon Belle Linda" of Sonoma County (Salon Belle Linda = California @ 7th Ave, SF), and that says a lot because Salon Belle Linda really is the shit!

And you know, the price isn't that bad... At least not for what you get; a good massage, nails that won't chip in a day, and a very friendly staff to make you look and feel beautiful!

I always look forward to my little trips to Petaluma so that I can stop in for a little treat... And the best part about it when I stop in is that they still remember my name... I don't even live in Petaluma, yet they still remember me... I love it!

Sadly, I have to leave this salon. I've been going for several years and have so loved my manicurist!  When I decided I wanted to have my acrylics done with a gel system, I was ecstatic!  It was more expensive but I realized how much the product cost so I realized why I was paying more!  I decided to buy my OWN gelish base, polish and top coat and was told, when I called to make an appointment today, that the cost would be the same -- no offset for my having my own product.  I called two other businesses and was told that my acrylic fill would be the ONLY charge if I brought my own gelish products with me for a "gel" finish........  bye bye Shangri-la!  You lost me!!!!

Very Poor ratings is the most I can give my experience at Shangri-La. And I would like to give you this ladies name but she never spoke a single word to me. All I can say is she is very thin, long hair and wears false eye lashes. She gave me the worst pedicure ever!!!

Yesterday my sister and I brought our mom for a pedicure and manicure to celebrate her birthday. Thankfully our mothers mani/pedicurist was good, my sisters was good but the lady that took care of me was horendous. She not once asked if I was doing alright, not once asked if her terrible slapping massage was comfortable, not once even looked at me. Not once even watched what she was doing to my feet-- I have abrasions on my toes and heels and as for her removing my cuticles it was the same, extremely over agressive. My cuticles are raw!! I would constantintly pull my feet away and she couldn't get a hint. That $40.00 pedicure was not worth $10.00,  I was supposed to have a manicure, but choose not to waste any more of my money on her services. Needless to say SHE DIDN'T get a tip and "There is NO way I would ever refer anyone to this salon!!!" It was apparent that pedicures where not of her liking!

Seriously reconsider this salon, poor service, terrible communication, and overall Bad experience. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau on this salon.

I have walked out of 4 nail salon's in the Petaluma area because they looked dirty.  I did not walk out of Shangri-La.  I enjoy their pedicures but are they anything special, No. Is the staff really friendly, Yes.
Manicures, their Gelish manicure was so-so and very expensive ($40, the most expensive in the area).  They had a hard time taking off my polish and blamed it on my former nail tech.  Bad form in my opinion.
Waxing, had to go back because the waxer missed a bunch of hair.
i want to give them more stars  but I just can't.
If you are looking for a clean place to go for a standard pedicure this is your joint.  I'll be back but will continue my search.

I went in to get my nails done during the election and the owner was doing another customer's nails and they were talking very loudly about their views on politics.  I could tell it was making a few other customers uncomfortable, possibly they had opposing views.  I just thought it was really tacky and made the environment awkward, mostly because they were a bit ignorant about their topic and that was embarrassing.

Anyway, I had removed my own acrylics prior to coming in and my nail person advised that I should let them do it next time because they would soak them off and it would be less traumatic to the nail.

Fast forward to next time:  I had an event that I needed my nails done for so I went in and ordered a new full set and removal of old acrylics.

The nail person took a  clipper and a nail tip and proceeded to pry at one of my nails.

About 4 nails in, she pulled up on one and ripped a good amount of skin off with it causing it to bleed and left a ripped hanging piece of skin that was painful to trim off.

They told me I could NOT  put a tip or nail on the raw open skin. Of course it would have been unbearable to put those chemicals on it.
I said nevermind, I would take the rest off myself and then schedule another time to get the set.

So they CHARGED me for taking off the nails.  They said it's no charge with a set, but because of their bad practice (they said they would soak them off but they did not attempt that) I was not able to get a full set.

The owner argued with me in a very hostile manner and did not have any customer service skills at all.

She has no language issue so I know it was simply bad business practice and bad judgment on their part.  She just really believed I should pay for them to rip my nail off so that I could have NO nails for a special event.  RUDE.

Now I go to My Salon and it is the best I've ever been to.

Rude, my nail tech was apparently in a very bad mood!  She complained about taking off my gel polish  "What is this?".  Pushed and pulled my hands around, never smiled or said hello.
Too bad because this is a nice looking place, and I would have liked to go back.
Nice decor and nails turned out good  Poor customer service.  Next time I'll go to San Rafael and go to Fingers and Toes...

I was in Petaluma visiting a friend for a weekend and we decided to get pedis.  The staff welcomed us as we walked in and was very accommodating.  The place was nice and really clean.  Throughout my pedicure I felt relaxed and really enjoyed it.  The lady doing my nails asked me what I wanted and didn't keep talking (I like getting my nails done in peace instead of them asking me about myself and yadda yadda yadda).  Anyway, I had a relaxing time and so did my girlfriend.  I got a nice french tip with with cute flowers.  Too bad I didn't live closer or else this would be my to go place for my nails.

Pushy, pushy, pushy. I asked for a pedicure, only, and was asked 4 times if I wanted a manicure. The woman who did my pedicure did not speak a single word of English and had to point to the brochure when trying to figure out what I wanted from her. My nails ended up being different lengths and the place is more expensive than other salons in town. I will not go back.

Just got my pedicure done today and realized that I never Yelp'd this place. It's awesome!!  They have a very friendly staff and they are all extremely knowledgable and very artistic!  When I got my pedicure last month for my trip to Hawaii, the girl painted a beautiful flower on my big toes and a design with a crystal in the center of the flower.  Today, I asked for Zebra stripes.  Perfection!!  They might cost a little more ($25 for a regular pedicure) but the pedicures LAST.  They don't start chipping in 3 days.  You can honestly put 4-6 weeks between trips there as opposed to other places I've gone where the service is bad and the nails chip too soon.  My only suggestion is to NOT make an appointment on the weekends.  Just show up after 2 and you will sit right down. Sometimes it appeared to me that they booked too many mani/pedis at one time when I used to make appointments.  Now, I just show up and I'm out of there within an hour with beautiful toenails and feel very relaxed.  Great!! Doesn't get much better!

After a terrible experience with Spatini, I ended up getting an appointment with Shangri La.I didn't choose them first because they have no website. When I got there the atmosphere was nice and decorated very well in the theme of their name. The ladies were very nice to us and though it took some convincing to treat a four year old to the same manicure an adult would get, when they gave it to us it was wonderful. I will definitely go again. They have the pedicure spa chairs and a very welcoming feel about them.

I brought a bridal party here last July, and we had a great time.  The owner was very friendly and accommodating.  When I called and explained that we wanted manis and pedis for six women, many of the local spas said they could not handle such a large group.  But here they assigned four staff members, and rotated us in and out of services, and it was an excellent and fun experience. The staff were friendly and willing to offer advice about colors, details, and so on. They had no problem with us bringing in some snacks and making a party out of it.  The services were good; everyone's nails looked lovely, including two days later at the wedding.

Kim made an appt for me over the phone , made me wait for a long time.
they are not very friendly, and  were not willing to turn walk ins away.which made the walk ins have to wait a very long time. Kim was nervous and kept on looking at all the walk ins, and paid little attention to the manicure she was doing. I walked out feeling like i just spent money on something i could have done myself, and then i thought, hey its so dirty, did i catch something????  YUCK

I have to say this is one of the worst places I have gotten my nails done yet!! The staff has mastered their fake smiles and very rude. My good girlfriend was getting married so we headed here to get manicures and pedicures. Since there was only 2 of us on a Thursday morning we didn't make an appointment. The squeezed us in knowing that they did not have time to see us. We offered to come back later and they had us sit down. I had some old lady do my toes. She didn't say a peep to me. She cut the sides of my toe nails down which was completely unnecessary. She even made me bleed!!!!!! I had her do a simple french pedicure and she had to have another girl put the white on. The color was uneven and looked gray. I had another lady just paint my nails since I had already had them filed earlier in the week. She did such a poor job that there were lines in the white. I asked her to fix it and she puffed on her way over to do so. I had spots of white all over my hands that I once again had to ask her to remove!! The brides nails came out about the same. We both wish we had time before the wedding to go somewhere else to have our nails fixed by a better salon. I would not rec commend this place to anyone!!
