5 reviews for Shangri-La Hotel
This hotel recently underwent a major renovation, and they really did a nice job. I checked out the poolside bar this past Saturday night and was impressed. It's somewhat reminiscent of the W Westwood and Roosevelt outdoor bars. It's got a sleek/contemporary feel, cabanas and good looking crowd and bartenders. This could just be a reason to stay on the westside for summer pool parties. It has potential to be the next hip spot.
Of course the first sign of fall hit the night we went. They have a big fire pit and tons of space heaters though. The staff is really nice and moved the ginormous furniture under the heaters for us.
The bar was fairly low-key when we arrived around 9:30pm, and we were easily able to snag prime stools in front of the friendly and adorable bartenders. I was feeling experimental and asked what interesting, specialty drinks they had...and the rest is a sugar-hangover-history.
Liquor lineup:
- "The Shangri-la" - Veev (an acai liquor), basil, cucumber and lime juice. Interesting. Strong.
- Ginger/blueberry spiked lemonade. This drink was amazing...so I had two. I loved all the fruits and goodies in it.
- Mojito - pretty damn solid
The crowd picked up as the night went on, but it wasn't a crazy, wait-10-minutes-to-order-a-drink kinda scene at any point. I do hope people catch on though, because this place is cool.
Drinks definitely ain't cheap, but hey, it's a swanky hotel bar.

This is a review of the roof top bar: This hotel was recently renovated and has a very nice space by the pool. A few things to consider: the speakers are very loud. It's hard to have a conversation. The service isn't great which means you'll have to wait to get your drinks. But my main gripe about this place is the $14 cocktails served in plastic cups. Yep, plastic cups. There is something about that that just doesn't sit right with me. I had three drinks and paid 60 bucks. They also charged 18% on my check because I was sitting with some other people. I don't know any bars that charge you a group charge on drinks when everyone is paying for themselves. That's tacky. So while I think the place has potential, right now the Tacky factor is just too high for me to return.

This old art deco hotel that sits on Arizona and Ocean is a step back in time. We stayed in the penthouse suite along Ocean and the view was spectacular. The suite was large enough to sleep 6 people comfortably and while it wasn't the cleanest hotel, it had plenty of charm.
I think they are in the process of renovating this place and I just hope they keep some of the charm that really seperated this place from the other uber chic places in the area.

We stayed at this great Art Deco hotel last weekend. Even though the hotel pool and restaurant were under construction I still loved this hotel. The staff was great, room had a fantastic view of the ocean and it was wonderful.. Close to the beach, food and shopping. Highly recommend it!
