I came here for a work dinner recently. Usually I'm not a big fan of Chinese restaurants (this didn't change that much), but this place had a little something extra going for it.

They have live lazz playing and it was damn good. Very intimate and welcoming atmosphere. The service is spot on and the owners are always walking around making sure all the tables are taken care of. The crowd is usually a mix of locals and corporate dinners.

Where it fell short for me was the food, no matter how good the jazz was, this is still a restaurant, I want to eat!

The apps were good, we had a sampler of various dim sum apps: dumplings, potstickers, spare ribs and sushi (yes sushi!). Everything was pretty good there. The main meals is where it felt short. I had a spicy chicken dish (forget the name) and it was a large portion. However, the chicken was bland, it was heavy on the sauce, but it really had no taste and was rubbery. Another person had the firecracker beef. It was spicy, but the beef was also rubbery.

I wish I could give this place more stars, it they step up the food a bit, it can be a great spot.

This was a great find... if you're looking for something to do on a Friday or weekend evening, do check it out. Live jazz music really adds to the cool vibe and we had an attentive server even as the place got crowded. Would recommended going between 5-6pm to get good seats.

Food was ok.. this might not be the place for you if you're looking for authentic Shanghainese food but the holiday cocktails were delicious.

Excellent time here with our business group - great food, wonderful music, intimate club feel. Regulars here mentioned that the food improved incredibly so the previous reviews of just OK food dorsn't reflect the current foodie reality.

Fun time with great cocktail & wine selections, and calamari, Korean beef, noodle dish, scallops, all delicious

Absolutely love this place. It's such a unique atmosphere and there's nothing else like it in the area. They have some excellent musicians and the vibes are always on point. Staff are all super nice. The food is delicious, Asian fusion. Last time I went we had the bulgogi beef which was very good, dumplings, scallion pancakes, and the lo mein. The bulgogi which came with lettuce wraps and dumplings were my favorite. The food may not be the most authentic Asian but it's very good Asian-American style cuisine. Their drinks are top shelf too. What I especially love about this place is that sometimes people dance.

Shanghai Jazz has been a fixture of exquisite Chinese cuisine and equally perfect jazz for some time. There are new owners however.

We were there for a jazz night this week, and the music was sublime, the Warren Vashay trio. I will see those guys any time they play. Pretty much any price you pay, which is a $25 minimum is certainly more than well worth them. However the service was abysmal: excruciatingly slow, misplaced orders, and truly horrible food. and I mean, horrible food.

Go listen to the music and buy the alcohol, but make sure you have a good dinner in your stomach for you go there.

Coming to Shanghai Jazz was such a great experience! The night I went, a famous jazz pianist was playing, so glad I made reservations.

The vibe was very romantic surprisingly. Our waitress was out of this world. Super friendly, attentive, and provided great recommendations. The food was good. My favorite dish was the Beijing duck! Portions were just right. And I LOVED how the waitress made sure to spread out the meals throughout the set.

So glad to have went to a jazz bar that was rated top 100 jazz bars in THE WORLD. TLDR; Food was decent, but the music, service, and ambiance made up for it all.

Being from a large city it is really exciting to go to a small town and find a hidden gem. This is a cool place with an upper restaurant and a lower lounge. The food and appetizers were good. The craft cocktails were exceptional. The mixologist knew their stuff. The service was just right! When in Madison check this place out. Oh and park out back so you get the red door experience!

I came out for a late birthday celebration with a friend. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked in and was greeted and the owner showed me where I could sit. We sat close to the band. They had a great live jazz band playing. Maliah was our server and she was great. I started with a lemon drop martini which I spilled a little and they completely replaced it. I was so appreciative. For my meal, I got Singapore noodles. My friend got the sesame chicken. The meal looked great and wasn't bad. My friend enjoyed his meal as well.

After dinner, we walked downstairs to the speakeasy. That area of the restaurant was super live. They had an early happy hour band and music after. We sat at the bar and had a good time. All in all, I had a really good time.

So, I am actually extremely disappointed because I thought this place would be five stars. Made a reservation for a certain time and we had to wait over an hour and 20 minutes because they were still setting up
For the night. Why allow people to book reservations for a time you know the restaurant, host, bartender, and etc wouldn't be ready?

Even after waiting for as long as we did we wanted to set that aside and just try to enjoy our night. Sad to say our food came out extremely cold and the waiter replaced it with another dish that was warm not hot. On my entree the sauce was cold and the broccoli was tasteless.

The only great things we experienced this trip was the amazing host and the awesome drinks.

Sad to say an hour drive to try a place we've had on our restaurant bucket list didn't turn out to be the awesomeness we expected.
