I found Shanaz online after reading all of the great reviews about her and I'm so glad that I did! I'm one of those people that "always want to change their hair" and every time I've brought in a new photo with different cut and color she's been able to deliver exactly what I ask for. I've been seeing her for over a year now and she's done blonde, brunette, reddish brown and even a two toned look on me (I love change) and all of them were beautiful and my hair is still healthy even after all the many colors!
My boyfriend now also goes to her and she's great with guys too! She's got such a wonderful personality that makes it fun to see her. Even though I moved farther away, I still travel for her because I won't let anyone but her touch my hair!Listed in: Great Service Providers!

After a bunch of positive reviews I have to share my two cents. Although my hair looks great now (a painful few days waiting for it to get fixed) I really had a gut wrenching experience. Shanaz was very accomodating though and I appreciate her efforts to get my hair back the way I wanted it.
I went in with beautiful blonde natural highlighted locks that just needed some touching up as I recently moved from San Diego to LA and can no longer see my old colorist so I had some roots growing in. I guess there was some miscommunication because I came out and my hair was nearly BLACK! I'm exadurating, it wasn't black but it might as well have been because it just looked awful. When she was blow drying it I knew it was all wrong but with styling I walked out and pretended like I liked it because it didn't seem all that bad. When I got home and was able to see it in the light of my bathroom I was shocked. I broke down and balled my eyes out for two hours on my kitchen floor! I have been blonde my entire life and now to see a head of brown ashy chunky highlighted hair I couldn't believe it. I looked like an ugly fake superficial pagent queen, not the natural beach girl I walked in as. I was told the ash would wash out, but it doesn't change the fact that I had a head of brown hair with chunky highlights. And when you're paying so much money shouldn't you walk out of the salon looking fabulous immediately?
However, Shanaz was apologetic and came in the following Sunday (got it done on Friday, so two days later) so that we could correct the problem free of charge. She spent two hours re-foiling my hair, used a special shampoo to remove the ash and even blow dried it so that I could see the color. Alas my hair is beautiful, blonde, natural and back to normal! There are still a few dark strands that were missed in the process but over all it looks much much better and I feel like my self again. (I was having an identity crisis for a few days there) I honestly thought it couldn't be fixed so I am so so glad it did.
I think if you explain correctly and there is no miscommunication Shanaz is a talented hair dresser that can deliver the results that you want. I just wish there had been better communication I hadn't had to go through the stress and anxiety of the original mishap. I will most likely return but I am unsure as I still feel uneasy about the whole thing. We'll see.

Now that my hair has finally grown back, I feel that I can write a fair review that isn't emotionally charged. (For time reference, my last haircut with Shanaz was eight months ago, in October 2008).
I first had Shanaz do my hair for my best friend's wedding in January 2008. She turned my lifeless waist-length locks into bouncy, glittering curls that almost offset my unflattering bridesmaid dress. Since I was in the market for a new hairstylist, Shanaz became my go-to woman. Every time I went in for a haircut, I came out with bouncy, voluminous hair that attracted compliments from friends and strangers alike. Everytime except the last time, when a good chunk of my hair was whacked off and short layers were cut in the front. The request was for a trim and side-swept bangs (which wasn't granted because I supposedly didn't have enough hair in the front for bangs). Ask and you shall not receive.
Being that I'm overprotective of my hair, I assumed I was overreacting. Apparently not. I was having lunch with a friend one day after the disasterous haircut, and when we finally paused to take a breath during our gabfest, she gazed sadly at me and said, "Don't worry; it'll grow back."
It finally did, and now I have two stylists (there's a sound reason for that) who both know that a trim should really just be that. Plus, one of my stylists cut in super-cute side-swept bangs about four months ago that....as it turns out, I do have enough hair for after all.Comment from Shanaz J. of Shanaz Hair Design 6/1/2011
