15 reviews for Shan Restaurant
The food at Shan is really tasty but be warned it's no Weightwatchers hangout. Seriously, if you're a health freak stay away from this place, better yet stay away from Indian food altogether. Frequented by many startup techies from the area, they have great lunch specials for around ten bucks. If Shan was a little more health conscious I'd eat here all the time but I'll still have lunch at Shan once every month or so seeing as it's a short walk from work. Today was one of those days.
Tip of the day: Bring paper towels or a strainer and use to separate the cup of ghee (mmm....clarified butter) that's bound to be in your food from your actual food. You think I'm kidding? I'll buy you lunch and prove it.
I love the fact that this spot is so close to home when I am too tired to make the trek to Shalimar...and its pretty affordable as well.
Really nice owners and they definitely understand the ''I have to get my 'Pakistani/Indian' food bi-weekly fix,'' as I am now a regular patron. I keep bugging them to give me the recipe for certain dishes but they've got my number and wont give it up...;)
I recommend the chicken tikka masala or beef jalfrazi and one of those mango .........lassi's! Yes that's it! Thanks Miriam!
I think this a better place to go at night or a rainy afternoon--during the sunshine (rare these days) it's just too dark and sad. The posters on the windows also are strategically positioned to frustrate your attempt to look at the world passing by.
The palak paneer I had was pretty good and I liked the bread, too. I think this is verging on a four star rating from me, but not quite there.
My friend and I ate hear for $15 with the help of my old friend the Entertainment book. The food was good, quick and we were well fed. Good Chana Masala and tandori chicken.
Honestly I am easy to please.
Love the chicken seekh kebabs. The chicken tikka masala hits the spot. Shan is like most other Pakistani/Indian hole in the walls in SF. It's good to have one of these joints at every corner in the city - close enough to home cookin' when you're 5600 miles away from home.
This place is closed. Gone. Outta Biz. In its place - newly opened Naan N Chutney.
Not bad, their lunch specials are a decent deal (rice, naan, side and main dish for under $10). The saag is particularly nice, not so creamy as to be soupy, with chunks of potato. I do wish they would rotate the dishes in their specials, or at least have a daily special, as I am kind of eating all the tikka masala and lamb curry I can handle, and ordering a la carte would up the price of a meal considerably. Still, a good place to help keep the daily lunch routine a little more interesting.
A decent spot for a late lunch on a rainy day with one of your buddies. The restaurant itself seems like it has been remodeled. It has a nice casual feeling, but the food is a tad salty for my palate. As a rule, I do not eat overly salted food, but I wouldn't know where to begin to cook Indian/Pakistani food. Thus, I shall be returning to Shan on some rainy day.
This place has excellent Indian food, it's a regular stop for me since it's just around the corner from home and work. Good prices, fast and friendly service. Though I've never eaten inside since they usually have some crazy Bollywood movie going and I can only take it for so long. I highly recommend the beef jalfrazi if you like spicy greasy foods, you won't be disappointed.
Outside of some great taquerias in The Mission, there are probably only a few places where you can spend less than $20 for a dinner for 3 people and it's actually really good food. A bit on the greasy side, but it has a home-cooked taste to it... sorta reminds me of my sister's cooking. The free chai tea is a plus.
Where i get my indian fix when I'm too lazy to trek to Shalimar or Lahore Karahi. Pretty good & affordable combo specials. I recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer. Not so hot are the Lamb Curry or Beef Jalfrezi. One other pet peeve - they are always out of something on the menu. Whether it is the Vegetarian Samosas, Kheer, or Chicken Kofta, one dish you order probably won't be available. Oh well, can't complain too much - it is 3 blocks from my place and open all the time
Great lunch spot if you work in the area. The Indian food is pretty basic and tasty. I especially like the okra masala. The naan is good. The only draw-backs would be if you have a large group, and it can sometimes be a little crowded at noon.
The other Indian restaurants are much better than this one. Shalimar is way better. The food here are too salty and the service is bad. The food may be cheap, but Shalimar is way better and last, the employees are rude, and especially that ugly old man at the cash register.
Skip Chaat Cafe (2 blocks up 3rd) and go here instead. It's much cheaper, the staff is much nicer, and food is much better (if you like spicy and salty). The Chicken Botti Tandori is my favorite!
My wife adores them, I think they are very good - tasty, quick and cheap. My wife's favorite - chicken Tikka - dry (as in does not drown in curry) and the naan...ggrrrr....
