3 reviews for Shamrock Lodgettes
My husband and I planned a last minute trip to the coast. Shamrock lodgettes looked really amazing-right on the ocean, in the charming town of Yachats. Unfortunately all of the old cabins were booked, so we decided to stay in the ocean view cabin(or what we thought was a cabin).
When we got there we realized that it was not a cabin, but a row of rooms(4 to be exact), with somewhat of an ocean view on the other side of a road. It smelled like terrible cleaning supplies, and didn't have much privacy(thin curtains, people constantly walking by on the road, and our neighbors just outside the window)
It did have a small kitchenette with everything but an oven, and they were very kind to deliver the paper in the morning.
I think the older cabins are the way to go if you stay here, otherwise I think I would check out somewhere else in town or on the coast.
A compromise between coast-funky and you-could-be-anywhere blandness, Shamrock has a variety of old cabins and more modern units, some with kitchens and woodstoves, and oriented toward their excellent location at the mouth of the Yachats River. Really nice spa with sauna, hot tub, and mini gym. Reasonable rates mid week and off season. Pets are welcome. Our room smelled strongly of mildew, smoke, and whiskey.
We were so disappointed in this place! We were there 20 years ago and it was a great experience. It has changed ownership recently and the new owner apparently has little or no experience in this type of business or with hospitality at all!
The little cabins are still cute, but the cleaning crew does a poor job - bring some Lysol and a mop. Choose the cabins closest to the ocean, they're the nicer ones and have a great view. They have rustic stone fireplaces that come supplied with dry wood.
One of the cabins is the old office converted to a "cabin" - it is the one with the "full kitchen" - don't rent it, you'll be disappointed. The interior looks like a cheap motel and smells like one too. They turned the front hallway into a bedroom (twin) by sealing the front door & making the side door into the main entry. You have to ask for the sheets to make up the fold out bed in the living room (using that term loosely here). This cabin is just nasty. We asked to be moved to a different one, but they told us that since my aunt had stepped into it earlier in the day & put a pot of chili in the fridge (before our arrival) that we could not be moved.
I'd still return, but be ready for poor customer service, not enough towels, possible clogged sinks, broken door knobs & carpeting that must be 40 years old. Fortunately some rooms have hardwood floors.
The location is fabulous, at the mouth of the Yachats River on the Oregon coast. It's a wonderful place to walk along the beach.
The town is quaint - if you go, eat at The Drift Inn. The food is good and they have local musicians playing on weekends. There were also a couple nice little shops and a cafe on a back street by the post office that were worth a visit. If I find the names & addresses, I'll update this review to include the info.
