Spent my wedding anniversary here per the recommendation of a friend. Overall we had a super pleasant time.

One star for affordability. Albeit we went during the "off" season (130 degrees outside in the summer), we stayed in a nice, clean suite with a kitchen and deck for only $90ish a night.

One star for its efforts toward safety (gated with a pass code entrance, gates all around and security guards)... though it made me wonder - should I be concerned with my safety here? Or was it more of an attempt to keep locals looking for a free swim off the premises?

Another star for the fact that Shadow Mountain has several pools in addition to their large pool (which means less people with whom to share!). We basically had a pool and a jacuzzi to ourselves as the 10 other rooms we shared it with must have been so intimidated by our sweetness!

A forth star for the staff here - we found ants in our bathroom one morning, and within minutes of calling the front desk, a service guy was at our door and took care of the problem.

No 5th star for 2 reasons. 1.) Because we were on the first floor, our "deck" was basically a block of cement in everyone's view, which also means that our window-wall that faced the pool area (ie our only source of natural light), when opened, exposed all that was going on in our room. So we never opened the windows and had to use crappy table lamps. Also, 2.) the air conditioner was so loud that we had to choose between the TV or the AC, because the two just refused to work together.

Overall, I can sum it up with one sentence: "We'll be back!"

What this place has going for it are the great pool, relaxed/friendly environment, great tennis and excellent location.

However, there is a lot to be said about the rooms/condos near the pool area.  Your room experience may be fair to ok, since these units are owned and operated by different people and are maintained differently.    I've been coming to this place for years and some rooms have good beds and up-to-date furniture....some rooms have loud AC units and squeaky beds.   After every visit, we say that 'this will be the last time we stay at this resort', but we end up forgetting about our last experience and end up coming back to this place.

Great place to stay.  Excellent location, very comfortable, reasonably priced.  Beautiful pool area for the whole complex plus a smaller pool and hot tub behind the room we stayed.  These are condominiums that are rented out.  They had a pretty decent fitness room as well.  I would stay there again.
