Before I went I had no expectations, and didn't even have any idea of where this place was.  (Just so you know, it is secretly hidden by the movie theater on the 3rd floor.)

The theater itself is oddly set up- you sit around circular tables, and are crammed in pretty tightly.  Can't say I'm a fan of circular tables in a theater.  If you get the wrong seat, you have to turn your chair all the way around.  There is a small balcony too.  The waiters, waitresses, and bar tenders double as the actors, actresses, and band members.   You can order drinks, appetizers, and they even have whole pizzas as well.  I didn't have any of the food, but it just looked like your typical OK kind of food.

The performance was just....weird.  It was a Christmas themed show.  I was expecting a more SNL type of show, which I guess it was, kinda?  It was many small skits with holiday music in between.  However, I didn't think it was nearly as funny as SNL can be.  I only thought maybe 1-2 of the acts were truly funny enough to make me laugh out loud.

The music however, was awesome!  The band was very talented and the singers were phenomenal.  I found myself wishing they would sing more and do skits less!

I went with a large group, so I only had to pay $15 instead of the regular $30.  I am glad for that- I'm not sure if I would want to pay the full price.  They also tried pawning off raffle tickets because they are a nonprofit organization-yuck.  Between the ticket prices and food/drinks I'm not entirely sure why.  That irritated me.  Oh well, good for entertainment with a large group, but I don't think I'll be heading back.

WAY too expensive. Then, they push their merchandise the whole time, as if they aren't robbing you to begin with. The sketches are hacky and unoriginal. They musicians are good but the sound sucks.

Go once, if you must, but you won't want to go back. Especially if you've ever been to Second City, Underbelly, or another more creative sketch show.

I went to this place once with a big group of people. My Step-Mother-In-Law got discounts on group tickets and so I got in for free. I had a pretty good time being it was free and all, but not a good enough time to where I would pay to go back.

On a positive note I thought it was pretty neat that the performers were also the servers. The service was pretty good as well.

Now for the bad/annoying part, if you give them your number it's almost impossible to get them to stop calling! My husband gave them his number and they kept calling to offer him discount tickets or buy one get one free tickets. He kept telling them he wasn't interested and to stop calling but they didn't listen until about 5 or 6 times later.

Basically if you're going to go, just know that you may be paying more than what the show is worth, and don't give them your number unless you know you want to go back and want to get discount offers.

Shadowbox Rocks! Seriously, the music at their shows will blow you away. And the comedy skits are a riot. Unfortunately they will be leaving the Cincinnati area at the end of July 2011. So if you want to see them perform you'll have to do it this summer.

"You got your chocolate in my peanut butter" worked out well because those were two great tastes that go great together. In mathematics, two negatives *can* make a positive, but when you cram two awful tastes together the result is not a delicious peanut butter cup, it's the Shadowbox Cabaret.

Imagine if you were out at a club and a bad cover band stepped onto stage. And, at the end of each song some of the members of the band left their instruments to perform bad comedy sketches on the other end of the stage. Oh, and you paid a $30 cover to get in.

I may be biased because I've seen great improv and sketch comedy after living in Chicago for over a decade, but this is like someone got their liver and onions in my vegemite sandwich.

    It's just downright awful.

I went to Shadowbox on a double-date because my friend got free tickets. I heard pretty good things about it, as the aforementioned friend had been there before. The show we were attending was their Halloween-themed one, so it was a bit different than the one he had seen before.

The music *easily* gets 5 stars. My god, these people can sing like no one's business! They also pick some awesome music to put in their show - stuff we can sing along to, but not super pop culture songs, either. The band is AMAZING. The lead guitarist was phenomenal, and... believe it or not... the tambourine player was awesome! (Seriously, he is.)

The comedy gets maybe 2. I do enjoy sketch comedy... when it's done right. I only found one or two of their 10 or so sketches to be funny to the point where I'd actually laugh out loud.

If I had to pay the $30 ticket price, I wouldn't have been happy. But, for a free show this was pretty damn good.

Its like when my friends and I at camp in 2nd grade had to write and perform skits for the rest of the camp for skit night. Only I'm pretty sure we were a bit more talented in 2nd grade than most of the people employed here.

I guess it comes down to the whole "Jack of all trades, master of none" saying - these guys play instruments and do comedy in a mediocre manner. We went here for a bachelorette party which seemed like a good idea at the time but it was really disappointing when the best thing about out time at the Shadowbox was the penis cake. Even the pitcher of margaritas wasn't making the show interesting.

If you're looking for comedy on the levee - try the Funny Bone and avoid Shadowbox.

When I moved here I really loved going to Shadowbox Cabaret. But now - 4 years later - it's lost it's luster.

Much of the cast is the same - there are a couple of standouts - Brandon Anderson and Lori Hunt - they're always great.

The problems - there were other cast members that were great - they've moved on. The sketches just aren't that funny - they're rehashing things from a few years ago and it's not as funny. The price - $30 is really high for the quality of comedy.

The positives - the band is good...it really depends on who's singing the song as to whether I enjoy each individual number...but the band itself is very strong. The food is good - I really like the pizza and they have some unique choices.

The performers are also your wait staff and every 2 minutes they're coming to your table yelling about something they're selling. They're the overanimated theater people. I feel like I can say that because I used to be like that - but I know - hey  they're just trying to make a living and bring in some money for the company.

The biggest problem is that it's just not as funny as it used to be. It's like Saturday Night Live - there are ebbs and flows - funny times and not-so-funny times - right now - not so great. I wouldn't mind paying $30 if I really laughed.
