ShabaShabu
2 reviews for ShabaShabu
Your typical Pan-Asian restaurant. Sleek interior with the requisite giant Buddha (Why restaurants insist on putting a huge religious icon in the dining room is so odd. Why do you never see enormous crucifixes?). Service was ok. I would like them to be more informed on the various dishes. The server brought out each dish at varying times, which was annoying but this is a function of the kitchen more than the server. The Thai dish we got was pretty good but more expensive for a comparable dish at any other Thai place (gotta pay for the huge Buddha). The Chilean Sea Bass dish was a little on the bland side as it missed the dynamic interplay between heat and sweet that I expect from thai dishes. The sushi was mediocre, but I've really come to expect that from sushi places in the Triangle (I'm a NYC sushi snob).
Neither great nor bad. Just average.
Service was terrible. My friend ordered some yellowtail nigiri and the waiter made a mistake. We told him that it was not yellowtail and he honestly could not tell if it was or wasn't! What the? The yellowtail was also cut wrong and was not appealing at all.
Pad Thai was average. Soup was the best thing we ordered. If you want Thai food, you should try out Twisted Noodle instead.
