I've been wanting to learn how to sew for some time now, and finally decided to look around for classes.  Found this place on Yelp actually, and was impressed by all of the great reviews and comments... especially about the owner.  Everyone seemed to be on a first name basis with Russell, so I thought that was a good sign, as well as the fact that this is a small, local business, and I love to support those.  Class pricing was comparable to other centers, and supplies were discounted for sewing class students.

Now that I've completed the beginning sewing class and have my new pajama pants, I've signed up for the next class and greatly look forward to expanding my abilities -- and my wardrobe.  Russell took us through the process step by step without overwhelming us with too much info.  He is an encouraging, upbeat, and dare I say hilarious (don't let it go to your head, Russell!) instructor, who instills confidence in even the most inexperienced student.  He gives plenty of one-on-one attention, as well as lots of practical suggestions and solutions, which are often the most useful tools for anyone, obviously, but especially for the newbie.

Thanks, Russell!

When I ventured back into sewing about 8 years ago I bought my new machine here.  I have since bought three more.  Great service, fun owner and good classes for all the basics.

Sewing Arts Center is a great locally owned retail store.  Russell who is the owner and one of the sewing instructors is phenomenal.

Looking to learn how to sew?  This is the place to go.  Check out the website for all of the various classes.  This is not your grandmother's sewing class.  Russell is a great instructor, patient, animated, explains the fundamentals very well and to top it off - he's HILARIOUS!

The products that the retail store carries is high quality but not intimidating like Mood and not depressing like Jo Ann's.

Curious?  Check out the website, stop by the store, send me a message and I'll help you decide.

Burned out at work, not motivated, want to get your creative juices flowing - then I recommend a sewing class.  Besides, it's a good skill to have in your personal tool kit and I think Sewing Arts Center will meet your needs as it has mine.

Parking in back.  Variety of class offerings.  Sewing machine/notions/fabrics all available for sale and wonderful customer service from the staff.

So, why am I YELPing about Sewing Arts Center on Pico when I don't even sew?  First, I really want to boost local businesses that are run by nice people.  Second, this store provides a very sorely needed resource in our part of town.  Third, the employees are all well-versed in the business of fabrics, sewing tools, etc.
I have bought lots of stuff here for my wife, even a couple of sewing machines over the past fifteen years or so.  Everyone is helpful, cheerful and wants very much for you to be a satisfied customer.  Stop in and buy something; its only half a block from Trader Joes so you KNOW you'll be in the area.

I am writing this review to all the people out there that have had the slightest urge to learn how to sew but ehhhh "never have the time or cant really teach an old dog new tricks orrr im not really crafty"  well you need to put away those excuses because I am all of the above and I found the beginners sewing class at this school to be perfect for every beginning sewer.

I didnt know the first thing about sewing and guess what- neither did my class- the instructor Russle is a phenomenal teacher who prides himself on making the class fun, interactive, and extremely productive.  I learned the fundamentals and basics of sewing, I became familiar with the sewing machine, and at the end of my 4 classes I came home with the cutest PJ pants.

There is a class for everyones schedule and level. I will definately be taking a second course- I'm thinking the apron class.

Very patient, kind, helpful and friendly people  own and work at this Santa Monica store.
Just before Christmas I bought the Handiquilter 16 from them.  Although they were swamped with customers, the shop owner, Russell came out to my house to set up the machine.  He then helped me load and quilt a sample piece.
My friends and I drive (at today's gas prices) from Torrance at least every month to see what's new.  Thanks Sewing Arts Center.

This is a great local shop that also offers classes.  I've taken 2 of their beginning courses and can now sew pajama pants and skirts, and no longer have to pay to have things stitched or hemmed.  They have a wide selection of classes for all skill levels.  The staff and instructors are super friendly, and know what they are talking about.  They also have quality equipment, and some really awesome fabrics! Project Runway season 17, here I come!
