77 reviews for SEVEN Salon
This review is for the trainee Kane at 7 Salon. I responded to a hair model ad on craigslist for free highlights and a haircut. I met with Kane last week to see if my hair qualified to be his hair model and today was my actual appointment.
When I got there, no later than 30 seconds after checking in, Kane came out and greeted me with a sweet smile and a robe to change into. Then he sat me down and talked me through what my expectations were and how he thought I should cut my hair. He was very involved in my opinions, genuinely listening to my concerns and optimism.
Even though he is technically still a student, the skill and confidence in which he highlighted and cut my hair would suggest otherwise. The results were gorgeous, very age appropriate yet modern and low maintenance. He even gave me a spine-melting head rub! In the end, he blowdryed my hair and left it product-less (the way I prefer it to be) and it had a ton of body and movement! I was sashaying my hair like nobodies' business!
I have always been wary of 7 Salon but my experience today changed that. Sure my appointment was about 2.5 hours but isn't that how long highlights and a haircut takes at other salons? (I've had haircuts alone take that long.) Besides the $9 I paid for parking at Pacific Place, I think I made it out like a fricking bandit with the great cut and color i got!
Kane, you are amazing, and I need you to understand that I do not use that adjective to describe many things, especially people! I will follow you to any salon (in Washington) you choose to work at, after graduation!
I love this place! I've been seeing Rachael since I got a free haircut from her last year and she always does a great job. I like the free latte, the DJ playing fun music and the dark, relaxing decor (I used to walk by and think it was an Asian Fusion restaurant).
$50 for a haircut is a bit steep but it's worth it to me because a good haircut means I don't have to fight with my hair to make it do what I want every day. Everyone I've talked to there has been really friendly EXCEPT the girls who give you your robe and take your coffee order but I can get past that. Highly recommended!
Getting my hair diiid is like crack and Tanya is my dealer.
I am so addicted I see her once a month (twice this month) for foils, partials, full color, and cuts. Tanya is a magician.
The most bad ass part about Tanya is that she listens and is HONEST. She takes my requests and tells me straight up (nicely) if a color or style would or wouldn't work with my bone structure, face shape, skin color, and overall look.
For reference, I have wavy (sometimes curly) unmanageable hair that does whatever it wants to do. Read: SUPER DIFFICULT and UNCOOPERATIVE...before Tanya. :) She's also SMOKIN' hot, funny, sweet, genuine, and just awesome. LOVE her and I know you will too. Aside from Tanya, the entire staff at Seven is extremely helpful and super nice.
Pricy? Yes. But I am way too vain to skimp on something as important as hair.
I went to see Ray based on how awesome one of my friends hair always looks. My friend is a little on the daring/ funky side, I am more conservative.
I had a cut and partial foil. Ray was great, very attentive and advised what colors and cuts she thought would & would not look good on me.
I am very happy with how my hair turned out, which is rare! She let me know which products she used, but didn't push me to the point of discomfort. She has great style and I trust her with my hair! I have booked out my next 2 appts with her already.
Yes it is expensive, but isn't every place these days? At least I get a latte with my haircut.
I had my hair cut and coloring with Tony back in July 2007. Love it! I have a natural black hair and wanted to get a dark brown color. The color that Tony picked was the most perfect color. The color lasted for months (I used Aveda shampoo and conditioner for colored hair). And when my hair grew longer, the dark brown color and my natural black hair color blended together smoothly. The cut was professional and stylish. The only reason I give 4 star instead of 5 is because I paid about $180 + tips for it. The B-P (Buyer's Surplus minus Price) wasn't high enough for me.
Never heard of the place until I respond to an ad about a free haircut. The place itself isn't too intimidating, but the consistant hassling about buying products before getting the haircut was hella unprofessional. The stylist I had was friendly and seem knowledgeable in her trade. Though I'd admit for a guy this probably isn't place to go get fade because it took two hours for mine to be done because the instructor had to correct the stylist every step of the way. The cut itself was great, but took long to get done.
I'd recommend the place to anyone looking to save a few pennies to get a haircut, but just have plenty of time spare when you do it.
A friend of mine got a free haircut from a stylist who needed models and mentioned that she was looking for people to do highlights on. I had been considering it for a while, so I e-mailed her and we set up an appointment for later in the week. After all, free highlights that would have cost me at least $150 at Gene Juarez (where I get my hair cut) sounded too good to pass up.
But here's the thing: It's abundently clear that you're there for a free service, because you certainly aren't treated like a paying client. I had a 2 p.m. appointment because I had to be at work at 4 p.m. and was told that it would take 90 minutes. Well, lo and behold, I ended up being late for work. It took 20 minutes for someone to come get me, after sitting there being stared at by various employees who clearly thought my pearls and heels weren't edgy enough for their salon. And while I understand that the stylists are learning and therefore have to go over everything with an instructor before doing it -- i.e. mixing the highlights -- it took forever to get someone over to check over her work before she started.
The woman who did my highlights was very nice, but I kept reminding her that I had to be out of there by 3:45 at the latest, and that didn't seem to faze her whatsoever. She was extremely slow, and by the time she put me under the hairdryer, I only had a half hour before I had to go -- and she said it would take at least 45 minutes to set, and then she had to wash and dry it. She was so hurried that she missed an entire chunk of my hair with the flatiron and I had to ask her to fix it before leaving. I couldn't help but wonder if she would have been more professional if I was a paying customer.
The highlights ended up looking great, and I tipped her $20, but it wasn't worth the hassle. Next time, I'll just pay to go to Gene Juarez. At least I won't have to pay for parking there.
omg! if you go to 7 salon, ask for Cher!!! I wouldn't trust my hair to anyone else! Everytime I get a haircut everyone compliments me on it, and even strangers on the street compliment me! I had really long hair for a long time, because I was afraid to cut it off, but now it's a pixie cut, and I couldn't be happier! With Cher, you can be sure that she will make you look good, no matter what! Be sure to book in advance, WAY in advance, because this ain't no secret! She's such a sweetie too, always so wonderful, interesting, and nice! I always feel like she's actually looking out for me. I'm always looking forward to my appointments with her. Remember! Cher! 7 Salon! GO!
where is michael?!
he was the only reason id give this place 5 stars...
im offering a reward for michael!
My sister in law went here as a model once and said that I should try it out. I responded to Kannie's ad on Craigslist and made an appointment for the next day. I liked how open the salon was and I sat in a chair with a great view of the Space Needle behind me. The stylist seemed nice enough, but she gave me the worst haircut I have ever had.
I just wanted my hair trimmed so that it was just above my shoulders. Well, some of it is above my shoulders and some of it is below. It was so uneven and she was trying to show off her "techinique" so my hair wouldn't be so heavy on the bottom. This resulted in a v-shape, but not an angled bob. If you looked at me from the side my hair was so crooked that it slanted into a v with the point at my shoulders. I had to wear my hair up until I was able to go to my normal salon. It was so embarrassing!
I wanted to love this place. Months ago a friend and I were given a tour of this chic salon, and I was dazzled by the beautiful Buddha statues, the dj, the free lattes...And, I'd heard stories of some clients exiting with fabulous haircuts. Even so, $50 for their cheapest haircut kept me from venturing in. When I stumbled upon a complimentary haircut last week, I lept at the chance--even knowing that it was probably from a newer stylist who was seeking to build her clientele base.
The first thing I noticed after I was seated in the salon chair, was how loud the music was. It was quickly apparent that my stylist needed to face me in the beginning not only to evaluate my face structure and haircut needs (Seven claims to give haircuts uniquely suited to frame your face), but because we needed to be able to hear each other clearly. I felt like I had to shout through the entire cut, and it was not a pleasant way to establish rapport with my stylist.
The cut itself was okay.I specifically mentioned how my thick and wavy hair could be difficult to cut, and the stylist asked me if I wanted it to be voluminous or thin. I said "thinned out". I also asked for semi-blunt bangs. Unfortunately, I got neither. My stylist was very sweet and tried in earnest (thus, I will not mention her name), but I could tell with the slight snipping during the cut that she was not a pro, and the excessive amount of time spent of blow-drying and flat-ironing my hair felt like her way of trying to make my cut worthy of $50. In all seriousness, I felt like I could've obtained the same cut at Fantastic Sam's or Rudy's.
I hear Seven has some wonderful stylists. But if you can pay less for a higher quality cut from a more-seasoned stylist, why spend more? I'd forgo the dj (and loud music), the three cashiers! and one hostess; espresso, the nice setting and location to see better results with my hair.
Well...
I recieved a free hair-cut card in the mail from a new stylist at 7, so I thought I would go for it! I decided to schedule for color also.
When I got there, I was really surprised at how large the space was. It was definitely hip and there were tons of people asking me if I wanted a refreshment/helping out. It was a little much in my opinion (I know that in retail you don't bother a person more than...twice in a short period of time or it becomes annoying and uncomfortable). The place felt more like a club and there are 60+ stylist there so it really is something else. It's neat they have all of these special features but it takes away from what a salon should be about - doing great hair.
My stylist was really sweet, I enjoyed her personality. I was shocked to find out she was younger than me (19!) and it made me wonder if she had time for the proper training but I relaxed after a while. It was apparent that since she was newer, that's probably why I recieved the first costumer free haircut card through the mail. My hair cut turned out pretty great, but the color was darker than I had asked for (I've gotten my hair done by quite a few places and it has never ended up this dark!) but overall it wasn't that bothersome. I haven't had to recut or recolor since, so I think it was ok.
Again, the stylist was super sweet....and the place was fun, so at first I thought I would go back right away. But I did walk away hoping my hair had been a little bit lighter and wondering where I just came out of. At least it was a pretty good deal for me since I had the first customer card to try things out with.
I was a little intimidated to go to Seven at first, since the price is more than I would typically spend on a haircut--then I found out what it was like to have a hairstyle I was actually happy with, so I have been going there for over a year now. The staff is very helpful, and you can set up a free consultation with a stylist before setting up an appointment. The only negative-- if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful salon experience, this is not the place, because it is always very busy and the music can be incredibly loud.
Masae is the best. Go to her. I've also had cuts by Cassandra who is also great. Agreed it's confusing at first: walk in and now where do I go to check in? Seems the entrance/check in/payment area needs rethinking.
That is the only complaint outside the price. Bring your ducats.
After reading the reviews on Yelp and Citysearch, I was worried about being a hair model here. I read about it in the Seattle Times a while back and found an ad on Craigslist (if you're interested in being a hair model, there's a difference bt their stylists taking required classes....and the trainees in the program at Westlake). When I went to get my haircut, I expected to be treated like I was getting a free hair cut and to have their salon products pushed on me. However, when I checked in, the employees were courteous and treated me like I was a paying customer. I got my free mocha and candy right away and didn't have to wait long for the stylist to come out. My stylist was Claire and she was very friendly. She didn't try to get me to buy any of their products. (Thank goodness...bc I'm a major pushover and the bottle would have just collected dust in my bathroom). She said that she normally works in the Bellevue salon and only comes to the Seattle location when she has class. I will definitely get my next cut with her if I am ever in the area. She spent a lot of time being precise, with her instructor coming over once in a while to check on her progress and give her a few pointers. I had braced myself for the worst, but ended up getting a pretty good cut. =) I wasn't sure if I was supposed to tip her or not, but I asked the cashiers and they gave me a small envelope to leave for her.
I'm hooked. Estelle is a newer stylist, and i'm officially a follower. I met her through my work, and got to chat with her about Seven's hiring protocol.
She had the standard amount of state-required training, and THEN had to undergo even MORE Training at Seven. I like this... I like to think of it as a Masters in Hair Styling. I was totally confident since, like the family masseuse, this came recommended by the WHOLE family.
Everyone from Grandma to my Four year old charge goes to Seven for Hair Cuts. I came in feeling great about it and never questioned her qualifications. I had a great experience and was pleased from the start.
It breaks my heart to write this review. I usually write quick, easy-to-read summaries of my pleasant experiences, but this was a long and traumatic ordeal, and I can't sum it up in a few words.
If you don't have much time: SEVEN Salon made my hair look gorgeous after my first appointment, but then they chopped my hair up so badly that I didn't want to leave my apartment - or let my boyfriend, coworkers, family, or friends see me - after my second appointment. Do not fall into this trap - find another salon.

If you have more time:
Six months ago, I wrote a glowing review for SEVEN Salon and the stylist who took care of me. But when I went back to the same stylist 10 weeks later, she gave me an uneven, unflattering, and unprofessional haircut. I liked her so much, and she did such a good job the first time that it took a few days after the second haircut to really process it. I just couldn't believe what happened.
Uneven, unflattering, and unprofessional - that's pretty bad, right? Well, it's not harsh enough. When I got home, about an hour after the cut, my incredibly supportive boyfriend delicately told me it was horrible. The bangs were in my eyes. The back of the hair was at the nape of my neck, and the front of the hair came past my chin...but only on one side. (To add some perspective, this is the same guy who tells me that I'm beautiful when I come home tomato-red from a workout wearing baggy, hot-pink sweatpants with polar bears dancing on them. Not okay, SEVEN Salon.)
But still, I refused to believe the stylist I adored would do this to me...that is, until few days later, when I got a really good look in the mirror. I'm a bit of a "yupster," but my haircut made me look downright homeless.
It finally hit me just how unacceptable this was, and I called SEVEN Salon (and deleted my original glowing Yelp review. An update might have been better, but it had my stylist's name in it.)
SEVEN Salon *eventually* scheduled me for an appointment with another stylist, but not until the receptionist spent several minutes trying to convince me to give me my original stylist a second chance. (Are you kidding me? After *this* cut? I'm supposed to let the woman who turned me into a troll touch me again? No way in heck, lady.)
So I went back, and the second stylist got me to relax a little bit - she was so nice, and she threw the original stylist under the bus. She said she couldn't believe how bad my cut looked, and told me I needed to style what hair I had left on my head into Shirley Temple style ringlets until it grew out. And when I left this time, I actually looked kinda cute.
SEVEN Salon gave me a discount for this cut, though they really should have taken care of everything. But since I liked this stylist and looked cute (at the time), I gave her a good tip, wrote "Thanks for fixing my hair!" on the envelope, and even bought the product she suggested (which contained urea - I realized this after reading the full ingredient list at home. That DISGUSTS me, and should disgust anybody who has taken a biology class or looked up what urea is on Wikipedia. Eww.)
So...when I tried to repeat the ringlets using the salon product, my Chi tools, and everything I've learned with my Allure magazine subscription, it didn't work. I bought curlers, I spent more time...I could come close, but it would either fall out or I would have gross helmet hair. The new stylist didn't work with my natural texture, and, lacking a beauty-school background, I couldn't replicate the look. My hair still looked terrible.
---
I moved here seven months ago, I found this salon on Yelp, and Yelpers almost always steer me in the right direction. I think there are a few likely reasons things didn't go well:
1. SEVEN Salon has expanded very quickly, and they hire stylists faster than they train 'em.
2. SEVEN Salon focuses on face shape, but they ignore hair texture. Texture is incredibly important in constructing a sustainable day-to-day look. I have wavy hair, so this makes my hair a little bit harder to work with - but even stylists at cheap salons can handle this common hair type. (SEVEN Salon runs about $70 after tip.)
3. SEVEN Salon focuses more on music, chocolate, and robes than haircuts. I appreciate the environment, and I like the personalities of my stylists, but I care MUCH more about how pretty my hair looks than the jams the DJ spins. (By the way - the ginger chocolate is kind of gross.)
Sorry for the rant, Yelpers, but you deserve better. And so do I. I'll let you know when I find it.
SBF desperately seeks stylist!
I know, I know, I shouldn't advertise desperation. But, please, Seattle, help a girl out! Getting a good hair cut should not be this hard. Seven: you looked like you had everything I wanted. Cool, hip, and free espresso! I was in love before I even walked through the door. So, I dropped by on Friday to schedule a consultation. Usually I'd just make an appointment, but Seattle's stylists have burned me before, so I'm a bit more cautious (read = suspicious) now.
I asked the front desk attendant for a stylist with lots of experience with super curly, thick hair. (Believe me, my hair has put panic in the eyes of many a stylist before). She told me she'd schedule me with Cassandra, a good stylist who wasn't too expensive.
Wait, whaaaaat? I checked out my outfit. Ratty sweats? Flip flops? No, just normal jeans and a sweater. Hmm. Maybe I looked cheaper than I thought. I thought about explaining that I was desperate, and I would pay hundreds of dollars (exaggeration, sure, but whatever) for a decent haircut. But I didn't. I shut my big mouth. That doesn't happen too often, so I was proud of myself. I just don't like it when people assume what level of stylist I want or can afford
That was Friday.
They called Saturday, left a message changing the stylist. But don't worry, they assured me, she still has lots of experience with curly, ethnic hair. Hmmm. And then, when I got there they informed me they'd changed stylists again. For those not counting, that's three switches in five days. 3/5. That's 60%. That's a failing grade.
The stylist that actually looked at my hair was nice. I'm not sure we agreed on how to attack the fro. She straightens her hair. Yeah, I don't do that. She asked me about backcombing (ratting) my hair. I looked at her in disbelief. I don't do that, I said. Then she pushed products! I couldn't wait to get out. I even turned down free espresso. I've never done that in my life. I don't even turn down crappy free espresso in a gas station in Ohio.
So, yeah. I'm desperate. I need a http://match.com for hair stylists. You'll be amazing with the scissors, able to whip a kickass hairstyle out of a head of curl/fro. Maybe even fairly punctual (although I'm stuck on CPT, so that's no biggy) and a little wit never hurt. I just hope you don't live at Seven. If you do, I'll probably never find you.
Yay! I love this place. At first, I heard not so many good reviews on it, but the person who cut my hair, was still in school. Her name was Elisa, I think. She's amazing! She cut my hair perfectly, and didn't even ruin my bangs, as I thought she was. She's nice, and funny too. I love my layers and my hair cut, though I think that I'm going to grow it out. She gave me her contact information, and if I plan to get another hair cut, I'll go to her! The music could be better.
Alright, so I went to Seven several months ago while they were still on 7th Ave. My hair was super damaged and over-processed and I just wanted a cut along with some advice on how to proceed with color while still maintaining my blonde-ness and not creating any new damage. The guy seemed cool, but damn, he kept staring at my hair in awe at how horrible it was, saying things to me that weren't very complimentary.
Now, I was a hairstylist in my former life and I know there are ways to tell someone that their hair is damaged without basically telling them they look hideous! This guy did not have those skills at all. But he seemed to have a plan for my hair that didn't involve chopping it all off and I was very appreciative that he took a low-key approach.
So the next time I called to schedule my color, it turned out that he didn't work there anymore. Great. So I took a risk and booked with someone I hadn't seen before. Mistake.
At my consultation, we discussed my current hair color, hair damage and what I wanted. We both agreed on a full foil and due to damaged ends, trimming about an inch of hair. The quote for the service was $180.00 (full foil and a cut).
The day of my appointment, I finally sat in her chair after about a twenty minute delay. She began foiling on the side which indicates to me we were only doing a partial full. When I questioned about the partial, she said that's what we agreed upon. Due to her delay and my having shorter hair, I consented to the partial. The stylist kept mentioning how damaged my hair was and that it was "quite a project." A client does not appreciate being reminded how "awful" her hair is and the strenuous effort required to fix it. I can assure you it was not that bad and I would love to have it looking like it did before my experience.
I'll summarize in an attempt to keep this relatively short, though it may be too late for that! Basically, while washing out my hair, she changed the plan without asking me first if it would be okay! She decided to put all-over color on me, when I specifically wanted the textured look you can only get from a foil! I was pissed and it seemed like she had perhaps messed up my color and was trying to cover it up! Believe me, I know that panicked tone in a stylists voice! She said she wouldn't charge me for that extra color and would give me the cut for free....but it still cost me $180. HUH????
Back at the chair, she kept remarking at how great the blonde was! Um, no. It was yellow, but I held out for the blow-dry as I know wet hair can look brighter. I informed her that I wanted about an inch cut off of my bob just to remove more of the damaged ends.
Long story short....I walked out of there with a big yellow mullett! She took THREE inches off of the interior of my hair and I didn't notice until it was too late!
I am horrified that the stylist changed course in the middle of my process instead of actually listening to the client's wishes. One of the first rules of customer service is to give the client what she wants. I wasn't asking for some outdated 80s hairstyle or some hideous unflattering do that would embarrass the salon!
I went back to the Gene Juarez Advanced Training Salon for highlights, where I always have awesome, consistent results. Haven't had my hair cut since as I'm STILL growing out those super-short layers!
Hey, maybe the stylist at Seven couldn't actually hear what I wanted over the loud music and the sound of her own voice talking about how much she partied the night before! Very unprofessional and I will not go back there or ever refer anyone to Seven.
this place is so dumb. everything about it screams dumb.
ok, to be fair, i can't review their stylists. i am sure they are awesome and worth every penny. i can't review them because SEVEN salon makes it completely impossible to make an appointment.
this might not be fair. but it is my review and it is yelp. but when i want my hair bleached and chopped...i want it now. i can wait a couple days. for example.....if i call on a Tuesday.....i would like to be seen by Friday. i know this is a lot to ask, especially for a uber-hip, totally awesome trend-fabulous salon like SEVEN. here is what i don't want:
ring ring ring
front desk- "thanks for calling seven salon can you hold?" (click)
me- wait wait wait wait wait wait wait
front desk- "thanks for holding"
me- "i would like to make an new client appointment to get a bleach and tone"
front desk- "ok since you have not been here before we need to set up an appointment with a stylist for a consultation"
me- "i have had my hair bleached before....and i am a natural blonde....and i have short hair....it shouldn't require a consultation"
front desk- "it really is for the stylist to decide and determine how long the appointment should be and if it is considered a repair or whatever"
me- "can't i just have the 'consultation' with a stylist before my appointment?"
front desk- "no because we wouldn't know how long to make the appointment for"
me- "well, in past experience getting my hair bleached, it takes about two hours if i do an all over foil"
front desk- "our stylist needs to evaluate the condition of your hair so we don't schedule the wrong time slot"
me- "i have never had so much difficulty making an appointment before. when can i get in for a consultation?"
front desk- "next Thursday"
me- "no thanks"
are you kidding me? i have to go all the way to the salon, find parking, go sit in a chair and then leave with nothing done to my hair? and then wait another week to actually get my hair bleached? wha?
i know they are trying to be efficient.....but it is not efficient for me to drive all the way there twice.
PS i called another salon and got in that day and have perfect, beautiful, bleached blonde hair and it took 2 hours.
suck it, Seven.
FYI-I got my current rockin' cut for free! Scored a coupon at an Elite event- pretty exciting* I had been to the old salon... It was minus the DJ- multi station check in- coat check- enormous space- and salon brand products. Masae at the old salon had given me a Locks of Love inspired short- Jennifer Aniston last season of Friends- cut and a short short- SJP break up- cut. Both were fabulous and received whistles.
Heidi was great- She is the perfect combination of professional, hair educator, and friendly. She went over my bone structure, which way I should part, texture, styling products, and constructive comments on the right way to grow out hair. Everything had a great reason or explanation that made sense. We discussed a hair plan and I got suggestions related to my texture and color for further styles.
The process and appointment was fun and painless- I didn't feel pressure to buy any products and appreciated getting a card telling me the sequence of what was on my hair. The tips are put in envelopes and slipped through a slot in the check out counter. Seven has extended hours and weekend appointments making it so easy to stop by.
I knew I loved this new Seven when I got to glance at artistic(nude) fashion magazines and saw how the body was actually part of the artwork while waiting on the leather circular couch to be claimed by Heidi, and later when they started playing "Walk This Way" while I was getting my haired washed.
I don't cut my hair often, but when I do- I will be at Seven for the cut! Yay Heidi!
I'm ahead on this place by at least $80.. just got my second free (FREE) haircut by a chick named Ray. (disclosure- the first stylist left..so they called me to retain my loyalty and so of course I'd love another on the house haircut danke!)
Can I just say that I thought Ray was going to be a fun gay man and it turned out to be a cute semipregnant chick? a little dissappointed? perhaps.
My haircut was ok.. I kinda wanted it a little shorter but she insisted on leaving it and who am I to criticize a 4 month pregnant stylist. note to self: emotional, hormonal (ok that is judging.. but seriously..) woman with sharp scissors is not someone you want to really argue with.
I'll go back. and maybe to Ray...

pretty mixed reviews, huh?
I'm not really sure why...i've gone in maybe 4 times now, twice as a model (wow! free hair dye/cut plus coffee and flashy magizines and look at all the pretty clothes and nice lighting and water and chocolate and getyourgrooveon) and once to get a dye to fix something i did, and now a free band trim "get them anytime you like..just drop in, call ahead.."says my stylist. Look. I KNOW it's super expesive. I KNOW. and you feel guilty. I know. i do too. BUT LOOK AT MY HAIR! and the lattes are great. and you have people waitng on you hand and foot for an hour or more. If you don't like nice lighting and it embaresses you when somone asks you what they can get for you....This is not the place for you. Go to another salon, one where they don't listin to what you want or care if you have enough water or anything fun to read. And where, by all means, you cannot gaze into the mirrior at one of the most flattering reflection of you (is that me??) you've seen in WEEKS. Just walk on to super cuts and save them money. But if you LOVE being pampered, feeeling pretty and getting EXACTLY what you pay for...GO HERE.
Who wants to hear about my hair!?!?! Yeah, no one. That's right. I understand this. So, this review won't be long and boring...unlike my hair after getting it cut at Seven.
Sure, the experience was great - it's a high end salon with high end prices. You've got a DJ spinning tunes, a barista making coffee, and you are given little squares of fancy chocolates to nibble on - but don't fool yourself into thinking these perks are free, it's more like they are included in the price. So, yes, it was lovely, but I paid for lovely.
I had envisioned having a deep conversation with my stylist about what would, and would not, work on me and all of the reasons why. The website led me to believe we'd discuss everything down to the minutia of the color of my eyes. (I know, I know, no one wants to talk about my hair and the Internet lies) So it's not surprising that the cut came out totally boring. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing to pay a premium for either. Luckily the color came out looking good, so overall I was happy with my experience.
If the prices weren't so high, and if I got my hair cut more often than twice a year (even *I* don't want to talk about my hair) then I would probably give another stylist here a shot, but as it turns out I'll just have to keep on keeping quiet about my hair. Shhhhh...the ponytail is sleeping!
Dear Rachel,
I know this is fast, but I love you. Yes, yes, we did just meet yesterday. I know, we were only together for two short hours. But you opened your creative spirit to me and now I'm a sexy head-turning bitch. What was going to be a simple, all-over color became a charged atmosphere of possibilities. You took a one-dimensional 'do of complacency and turned it into a supersweet neck-baring shaggy sex bomb. After all, you specialize in short hair, especially with wave or curl. Sigh.
The DJ played my favorite Dolly Parton song (Jolene!) and you snipped snipped snipped your way out of "hair stylist" status and into my scrapbook of Immortals I've Encountered Along The Way. You argued that 9 to 5 is superior. And you're smart. And you cussed. And I was given a delish Seattle-worthy latte on my way to your chair.
Oh Rachel, it's true. I heart you. Please don't be afraid. You have two weeks to ponder as I'll be in for a maintenance on the 15th.
xoxo
emily
This place is trying waaaayyyyyy to hard to be trendy/hip/cool. A live DJ...seriously? I think the owner wants people to be distracted by the music, latte's and decor so they don't notice the not so great hair cut. I think they should save money on the flashiness of this place and put it into hiring better trained stylists.
I tried out Seven after a coworker (whose hair always looks fierce) suggested it. I saw Mia (who was featured in a magazine) and she was great. I love my hair, she listened to what I wanted (or didn't want, anything goes for me as long as it isn't short). My hair is super finicky, curly, frizzy, dry, and has a mind of its own so I get skeptical of trying new stylists, but so far so good. The espresso bar is pretty cool. I felt they were a lot nicer than Gene Juarez. Pretty reasonable at $50.
I love my hair! After a disastrous emo-mullet-overly trendy haircut at Vain a few months ago, I have finally salvaged my 'do.
I definitely got my money's worth at Seven! Not just a haircut but a latte, a dj, and some chocolate to boot. For the high price, it's fun to feel pampered every once in awhile.
My stylist, Tammy, was friendly and genuine. She took a lot of time making sure she understood my hair and what I wanted, and seemed to really care about making me look good instead of just "getting the job done." She knew exactly what I wanted and catered to my requests while telling me what would look good with my face structure. I appreciated that she gave me suggestions for products and styling tips but did not try and push any of the "7" product line.
Recommended - not just for the haircut but for the experience as well.
Not the place to go if you're a guy. I've been trying to find a regular salon since I moved to Seattle. A lot of my co-workers (female) suggested Seven, but I had a horrible experience. I have kind of a simple fade on the side into longer hair on top and they didn't get it. It should have been my first sign when the hairdresser had to go look for clippers.
The best haircut I ever had was a toss up between the one I got at Yuki Ohno's salon (when it was in Madison Park) and the one at Jose Eber on Rodeo Drive in LA. One of Yuki's students did my hair for free at the time. Jean Marc was the stylist at JE. I felt beautiful both times - the cuts were radically different, but both suited me very well.
Jean Marc was recommended in Vogue. Vogue at least tends to hire people who know a good stylist.
Because of the hype about Seven at http://CitySearch.com, I thought I might be getting one of those transformative experiences here. What I ended up with was a mop. An expensive mop that didn't justify what I paid for it. Though it was cut ok in the back, it did nothing for me. Supercuts would have done just as well, for a lot less. I still have a mop on my head that's not cut right, and it's growing out funny. The Jean Marc cut was no more expensive, and held its own for some time after.
I have a little bit of impatience with the Gen X-Y-Z way of advertising. This amounts to getting all your "friends" to write glowing reviews about you - and they see nothing wrong with that. Ever notice how many Yelp reviews are voted "funny" when there's nothing funny at all about them? In a referral system like this, who can you trust?
SEVEN TRAINING SALON REVIEW:
Seven's training sessions take place in their downtown salon. The salon is swank, laid back and super cool.
The question is....what's better than a FREE haircut?
...how about free expresso drinks?
...how about free "sexy" ginger 73% cocoa chocolate?
...how about a live DJ helping everyone get their groove on?
Not only do I get points for good karma (letting newbies practice on my hair), but I walk out with a sharp haircut and food in my belly! Seriously, what could be better than that?!
BTW, don't be scared of training salons. There is always a teacher/trainer who supervises everything and they would never let you walk out with less than a great cut. Afterall, they are practicing particular Seven salon techniques and probably wouldn't want anyone going home unsatisfied or looking funky.
As for my cut, I got a classic bob with very sharp lines. I have "virgin" hair, so they were able to work with my fine/soft hair and give me a sleek "china doll" look. To be honest, probably one of the best haircuts I've had so far (both at a paying salons and training salons).
Great place to get your hair done. Very classy place. Fun place for Women that wants to look good! Please tell Roger the owner, that
Do Nguyen send you. He is the Best!
Seven Salon. I'm addicted and I'll tell you why.
Even before Seven moved to the swanky new Pacific Place location this place was hot.
If I am going to pay $75 for a haircut, not only do I expect a flawless style but I expect a full service experience. From the second I walk into the salon I am greeted and offered water, a latte, cookie, the world on a stick perhaps?
My stylist Masae is a fierce, Japanese sex kitten with skills that could fix any mastercuts monstrosity. Her precision with the sheers is inspiring and her sense of humor is lighthearted, witty and warming. I recommend her to anybody. I look forward to every cut and "in between" bang trims are free of cost!
Since the relocation to Pacific Place the salon has made some decent upgrades. A barista on retainer, a dj spinning music, more chairs than a cathedral and new "kimono" style robes. There are a lot of people standing around but at least they're easy on the eyes. Admittedly this salon has become my new drug. And like all my favorite drugs, it's expensive, classy and as I said before... I'm addicted!
Five stars for my stylist, three for the salon.
The new location is effing huge. It's beautifully decorated but in the huge space, it lacks a lot of intimacy.
I was largely unimpressed with the customer service at the front, which consisted of the hostess blankly staring at me until I said I was there for my appointment with Rick (for my review of Rick see the Bellevue location.) This silent, I'm so cool attitude was reflected by most of the staff, with the exception of the sweet girl that checked me out.
C'mon, I'm not asking for much here. I work in the customer service industry as well and I know things get busy, bad days happen but a simple "Hi, How are you/How can I help you?" would suffice! Omg, is this the infamous Seattle Freeze? (jk). All I know is if I was just walking in for an impromptu hair appointment and no one even looked up to greet me I would turn around and walk right out.
Bottom line here: Go here and see Rick for a fabulous hair experience - but don't expect much else from the staff.
Wow. This isn't a salon, it's an experience. The DJ was there spinnin' music (and GOOD music), they made me the best hot chocolate I've had in my life, and made me a second round! And they also gave me two pieces of 73% cocoa chocolate to nibble on. Alot of natural light flowing into the place, doesn't feel cafeteria like Gene Jurez.
I was happy that they fit me in for a color with 30 minutes notice. Even happier that my colorist was actually good and only 65 dollars.
Buyer beware!!. The place looks nice, modern decor, stylish people, spacious, brand new equipments, bla bla bla BUT they have no clue as to what they're doing, I don't even know why they're working as hair stylists since apparently they know nothing about hair. I was there for some blonde highlights, and during the consultation, they showed me their color chart book and made me show them what kind of blonde highlights that I had in mind. The color turned out great but then when I got home, I noticed that the bottom and the inside of my hair was still dark though I asked for a full head highlights and was charged for it. So i came back 2 days later and I asked for more highlights on the spots that I thought was still too dark. I fully intended to pay for my service even though it's considered as a fixed but hey, I totally don't mind paying if the job is done right. The receptionist said everybody was busy but antonio would be available in 10-15mins, would it be possible for me to give them my number so that they could call me as soon as Antonio was ready. So, I did and I went over to game stop which is located in the same floor as the salon to look for birthday present for my son. I was probably there for 5 mins and was asking the sales assistant about some games for my son when my phone rang, they told me to come back as Antonio by now was ready to see me. So I hurried up back to the salon, when Antonio's assistant greeted me and told me that Antonio would be right with me. I waited for 20 mins (!) before he actually came over. He looked at my hair for 10 seconds and said he would send somebody else to fix my hair. I waited for another 15mins before Lorenzo came over, looked at my hair very briefly, didn't even bother asking me what I wanted, what my concern was, nadda. Lorenzo then walked away for what seemed like forever, then Colette showed up , ready to color my hair. She had with her a piece of paper for me to sign that I would waive them from all responsibility regarding my hair. Apparently she was a trainee, I knew cause she told me. I was immediately concerned since she never even looked at my hair before, I never talked to her before and she didn't know what color I wanted, or how I wanted the color done, etc. So, I asked her, can you show me the color chart book so I can show you what kind of highlights I'm looking to achieve. But she coldly said, Lorenzo, the color instructor already mixed this color for me to put on your hair. I admitt that it was my stupidity to allow her go ahead with my hair. During the process, she called some girl twice to look at my foils and she said this is the best i can do, it's your call now as what you want me to do next. The other girl just said it looks okay, The other girl then took me to the washing station to wash my hair and put toner on my hair which is very confusing since now different people are doing my color during the time which Lorenzo came over and said oh yeah it turns out great, making me think that everything was going great. Boy, could I be more wrong, when I sat down back on my chair, ready to get my hair blow dry, I could already saw that the blonde highlights I wanted was very orange, real orange, blotchy, with uneven tone all over my head. OMG!!! I looked like a skunk with orange stripes. I told the girl who did the toner, the washing and blow drying that I was very unhappy with how orange my hair turned out and she just told me "my advise to you is that you put the olive oil on your hair and when you go back to California, you go to a hair salon and got them fixed all these orange with foils. Hello!!! What the hell am i doing here for? Didn't u guys just put foils on my hair??? And now you're telling me to go to another salon to fix the mistakes that your salon did??? When I went to the front desk to pay, they totally knew that they screwed up so they asked me what was wrong etc. I told them my hair is orange, I didn't come here to get an orange highlights. They said yeah, uuuhm your highlight is free because you were just here on Saturday. So they just charge me for the deep conditioning treatment. But really I'd rather pay the full amount then offered free service but half ass job with lame service. In the long run it cost me more money, time and stress trying to fix the damage they had done to my hair.
ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!
I use to love this place when they were only an one store operation. the staff was much more attentive and it was much easier to get an appointment without all the formality. I referred a couple of friends from out-of-town and unfortunately the salon was very unaccomodating to their schedules and didn't really seem to care to retain a new customer... I do think it is a very hip establishment and a great addition to the Seattle "hip" scene but a little bit more customer service oriented will be nice!
I have mixed feelings about Seven and can't decide if I'll go back.
Loved my cut (Jaime rocks) but hated the salon. It's trying way to hard to be hip & trendy. The music is so loud that you almost have to shout to have a conversation with the stylist. But, I really loved the cut -- it was one of the best I've had and the price (around $50) was really reasonable.
Now that I got my hair cut here I have to go get a second job to pay for the hair cut. At least my new fancy hair cut will help me land that second job at the local Denny's as a dishwasher...
The haircut was very nice, but it did run me $100 with the tip. I think that's more then I've spent on hair cuts my entire life... combined. When you come here you get a nice little 7 robe to wear and they hand you a small water and a chocolate. To make myself feel better I figure the hair cut cost me $20.00, the water cost me 30.00, I paid $25.00 for the chocolate and paid $25.00 to rent the robe for the visit. There... now it feel like it was worth it!
Five stars for the hair cut, one star for the price. Some staff was super friendly, others didn't want to be bothered, so the staff get three stars.
