20 reviews for Seven Moons Restaurant
This restaurant was incredibly tasty. They serve a huge number of dishes from seven Asian cuisines from China, Japan, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Thailand. The menu is expansive, yet the prices are really reasonable.
My partner and I had the chicken wing appetizer, done with spicy Thai peppers. Sixteen pieces of wings (way more than we thought we ordered!) for $8. They were hot, crispy, and very good. For lunch, I got a crispy noodle dish with seafood ($8) that was just as I remember from the best Chinese restaurants. My partner got the lettuce wraps, which were really good, and a large portion to boot ($10)!
All in all, the bill (with tax and tip) was under $40. Pricey for lunch, but we took home a lot of leftovers, and the food we got would have been more than enough for dinner, too. The service was pretty quick and relatively attentive - in taking the lettuce wraps home, they gave us extra lettuce for the filling.
To summarize?? I cannot wait to go back!

If I could give this place 6 stars I would. I come here every time I come back to Rhode Island and can never get enough. Their sushi and maki are absolutely amazing. Always the right amount of fish, never too salty, never seems too old, the rice is not too much vinegar either. The orange dragon roll is the most delicious sushi roll I've had in my life. Period. I like maki with creativity and variety.
Speaking of variety, this place has it. Their menu is pages and pages long and really I think I could go there 20 more times and still not have tried everything. I haven't eaten anything here that I haven't liked. Their thai green curry chicken soup is amazing, not too spicy and tender chicken. The silver chicken was a nice surprise because we couldn't figure out the description "a silver cocoon" meant tin foil. I've tried the Ban Hoi and that is a fun dish to eat. The seven moons antipasto is a great appetizer platter that is enough to feed four people quite fully. Their dumplings, steamed or fried, are full and delicious and come with a great dipping sauce. And the crab rangoon --- can't get enough. They are smaller than I'd like, but the cream cheese is just the right amount and the combination works so well together.
And as far as the staff goes, I've never had any issues with the service, even when the place is tremendously busy it's never a problem waiting in the nice lobby next to the bar that they have, and that just gives us time to make up our mind to order. I wish I could go there every week.
I have been here sooo many times in the past and it was always great, but something this time, was just not the same. My chicken dish tasted like wet cardboard, and the pad thai my friend got was very mediocre. My mom ALWAYS gets salmon when she goes here, which is a lot, and they were out for the season? Thats what the server said, and it made no sense, especially since they had another salmon on the menu that was available, but they couldnt (or wouldnt) prepare it the way my mom usually gets it? hmm...
I dont know, maybe it was a bad day for 7 moons... it used to be great.
They have peanut sauce to DIE for. I overdose on nime chow and pad thai every time I'm there. It's absolutely delicious. I agree with past reviews - the waitstaff sucks .. but you can't let it ruin your meal! Some of their dishes are bland. However, they have a huge selection and you're bound to find something you like. We always go back for more! :)
Weekends are super busy .. so better to go during the week or go for an early dinner on Fri/Sat/Sun.

I have to give this place five stars because it my favorite restaurant at home. I go every time I am in Rhode Island, and I always get the amazing Nime Chow. I can taste the peanut sauce right now. Their miso is delicious and the sushi is always of the highest quality, fresh and delicious. I am also a big fan of the tuna nutta.
I can't get enough of this place!

Oops...I did it again! (Britney on Seven Moons)
I want to like this place... I really do and so I allowed my dining partner of the day to talk me into another try.
It was a Saturday at lunch time and surprisingly it was not packed. We met our waitress and then we waited 10 minutes for water..we waited another 10 and got our salads- these had potential to be great- they were served in large sized bowls and the dressing is very good- the bad part was that they tasted like they had been made the day before and stuck in a freezer....so the veggies had that weird taste and were sorta icy. Once our salads were cleared we waited for at least 15 minutes (this I am not exaggerating about. My dining partner and I talked about leaving becuase it felt so darn long...) FInally our waitress returned and served us our entree . This included sushi- it was almost luke warm- followed by our bill.

The menu is HUGE! There is just soooo much on the menu, making it diffcult to choose. It is a plus and a minus in obvious ways.
We were very happy with our food. I will note the Green curry duck soup is amazing. My main complaint about the place is the service. I felt like on a Friday night they were rushing us out. It was a busy night. Yet, we got the menus (all 50pages of it), rushed to order, rushed to eat, and pretty much pushed out, so the next people could sit. The place is very loud also.
I couldnt completely down the place cause the food was good. I would prefer to do take out before I would do a sit down meal there again.
Look ma, no food poisoning. . .
I've been a few times since my original review, the latest being last night to experience the Asian food for dinner on Christmas day thing. As before, I have not had a single bad experience dining here. Last night, the service was prompt and courteous, and the food quite good. And I just finished off my fiancee's leftover pad thai for lunch today. . . yummy!

As good as it gets around the ocean state. Plenty of parking. Great prices. Lunch is very inexpensive. Gets pretty crowded on the weekends.
I can't give this a five because I save that for extra special dining experiences that have good food, great service, unique and quality ambiance but this is a STRONG 4. It is definitely the best place for Asian in South county, probably in RI.
They have given themselves an ENORMOUS task. Make quality authentic food from seven different Asian cultures. I know a lot of places that can't even get Americanized Chinese right and they have got it all. Plus the food is good, service is decent for a large place that is almost always busy and the prices are very reasonable for what you are getting and the portion sizes. Not overwhelming but big. As with most Asian cuisines, they heat up well the next day.
In response to other reviews I will say that most criticisms which I partially agree with are because of their great food and their success.
1.The menu is kind of big so it makes it hard for people to choose what they want. I usually split things and try something new every time. Over the course of several visits you can pick out things you like OR just choose one type of cuisine and stick to that for the night.
2. It is always pretty busy, especially on weekends, so you might feel rushed. I would suggest takeout on these nights if you don't like crowds. If you really want to sit and enjoy you can come on a quieter night or grow a pair and eat at your own pace.
3. They also seem to get a lot of big parties. I was there last night (with a group of 7) and just in my walk to the bathroom I counted 4 tables of 10 or more people that weren't even together. As a former waiter (for a brief time) I know how big groups can overwhelm staff.
4.Last thing which is a small concern but also impacted by the amount of business is cleanliness. I have never had a dirty table or utensils but the floors and bathrooms could use a good scrub. I imagine that they would need serious attention on a regular basis though with so many people coming through.
The fried ice cream is also really good but I never have room for dessert.
Overall Excellent!

Seems like this place receives either great reviews or horrible ones.
Fortunately, my family and I had a really nice time here yesterday for Mother's Day. My fiance and I took my mom, dad, and sister here for dinner. We arrived there around 5pm and barely had a wait, although the place was fairly busy. Our waiter was attentive, funny, and very helpful. When my mom (who is not a drinker by any means) asked about the pomegranate martini that was advertised on the table, the waiter engaged the table next to us to ask them how theirs were. Everyone there suggested them and it brought a real sense of fun to the atmosphere, which started our dinner off in a positive manner. We did order the martinis and they were excellent. Even my parents enjoyed them, which was surprising.
For appetizers we ordered the Nigiri sushi sampler, which was a 4 piece dish-somewhat typical, but good. The sushi was very fresh. My parents ordered the crab rangoon, which I didn't try, but also did not hear any complaints about. For entrees, everyone at our table seemed happy with their dishes. I ordered a bento box with salmon teriayki and some calif. rolls. The boxes were good, although there was a little confusion when one of them was mixed up with another. No big deal though, the waiter fixed it promptly. The miso soup was also pretty tasty. Usually I am not a big fan of miso, but theirs was nicely flavored.
The tables were a bit small, but our dirty dishes were cleared quickly enough that we were able to manage. I was actually pretty surprised at the ending bill, it really wasn't bad considering we all ordered drinks, apps, and meals. The total was 125 for 5 people.
Overall our visit was very satisfying. I would definitely go back again.

This is a great place for a quick and affordable lunch. Monday thru Friday they offer lunch for just $5.99 and there is plenty to choose from. I usually have the Nime Chow lover lunch which comes with two Nime Chow and your choice of soup. I like the hot and sour soup, its not the best but its not bad either. I also recommend the Pad Thai its a good sized lunch portion and also comes with soup.
Its the kind of place you are hurried in and out of. Not the type of place you go to have a leisurely lunch or dinner. The waitstaff seems like they are always in the weeds, you can almost see sweat beading on their foreheads as the rush from table to table.
I agree with comments about the sushi not being cold ( I think the rice is still warm) and the salads being excessively chilled. Yet the lunch special is so reasonable and the atmosphere is great The service was good. I will surely go back for the sushi combination roll at lunch. They allow you to do one substitution so I was able to opt out on crab for yellow tail for a minimal fee.
The menu is absolutely huge as other reviewers have said. I have been here multiple times in the past few years and the food and service are both fantastic, especially accompanied with a wide variety of cuisines and menu items. The only downer is that the meals can be a little pricey depending on what you order ($10-$30, not anything enormous). Overall very recommended.

I was rushed to the hospital two days after my horrible experience at Seven Moons. Not only did the chicken taste like soap, I contracted salmonella poisoning from this restaurant's food and to top it off, the waitress (who was very friendly) messed up our order.
I came here with my boyfriends family who we were visiting from Boston. I never had such horrible asian food in my life. First off, we ordered Hunan Chicken.. they brought us Szchechuan Chicken. The restaurant was dirty, the waiters were sweeping up right next to our table and creating dust.. that later landed in our food.. yum. =T Regardless, I'd rather drive an extra 10 or even 15 minutes to eat somewhere I don't have to worry about getting severely sick from. My experience unfortunately took place during my finals week and right before my trip to the Caribbean. I am contemplating whether or not take legal action. I don't want anyone else to have the same misfortune I had at this venue. Be cautious.

The food here is great in comparision to the other Chinese food places in the neighborhood.
I recommend nim chows, lemongrass chicken or tofu, and ginger fried icecream. Thier fried icecream is fabulous. In fact when I was there it only cost 5 bucks and it can be easily spilt between two people. I definately reccomend it.
The atmosphere is quite interesting as they have paper dividers in some rooms. In another room there are seats that are litterally in the floor. You take off your shoes and "sink" into your chair. Very cool!
I didn't give them 5 stars because on some occasions I would find myself waiting for the waiter. They get really busy, on Sat nite or Fri nite it is better to Take out!
Great food and service! Has a huge menu of various cuisines and the sushi is awesome. The atmosphere is nice as well, but expect a wait during the dinner rush.
Everyone I know loves Seven Moons, and I *really* *really* want to also, but for some reason, every time I go I leave unsatisfied. The reason I want to like it so much is that it an oasis in a desert. There are so mostly really mediocre Asian restaurants in South County, and Seven Moons at least has an interesting and diverse menu. Not the 50s-style pu-pu platter and tiki hut drinks here. I think the name refers to the seven cultural influences, but I might be making that up. Anyway, the vision is great, but like I say, I always leave unsatisfied. For example, the sushi menu has everything you would expect, but not a lot more. Quail Eggs. That's cool. But no specially-sourced ingredients, no unique roll creations. Entrees I've had from any of the "moons" always ended up being a bit bland and uninteresting. It's almost like they went out and found really interesting items to serve, but then toned it down for general consumption. If Seven Moons were in Boston or LA, or even in Providence, I would have given them two stars. I throw in the extra because of the fact that they are trying to do something interesting down here, where few others are. Given the recent opening of more well-executed options like Herbs and Spices, however, should help boost the interest in improving the execution at Seven Moons, so it can finally meet its expectation.

I pretty much eat here every other week. It's one of the very few "asian restaurants" in South County that offer a large diverse menu (japanese, chinese, thai). Although, if you were in a city, you could surely find some place else with a much more impressive authentic menu. But we are in South County after all, beggars can't be choosers, and I will even admit that after this place opened, I ditched my local chinese restaurant that I grew up on. (yes, i feel the guilt). Generally speaking I've always loved every dish I've gotten here. I'm a sucker for the crab rangoons, pad thai, bee bong, chicken coconut soup and nime chow. The one major down fall of this place that I wish they would improve on is service. The waitstaff here is generally not the greatest when it comes to attitude. It's not as though they are intentionally rude, its just they could use some major improving. Or at least a really good training session on upbeat positive service. This is why I usually prefer getting take out. Of course one could always remember that moment last year where the health department closed them down for a day because of one too many violations, but I try not to think about that.

Awesome selection of Chinese, Thai, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Laotian, & Japanese cuisine along with GREAT atmosphere. Prices are really reasonable but add up quick (so be aware)...but everything was FANTASTIC!
