Sesame has been around for a number of years...a fact that should tell you the food and prices are pretty good. They are!
I have only been there once for dinner, but I have had countless numbers of lunches over the years. Their special luncheon menu is extensive, fast-serving and cheap. How does $5.60 for a large serving of Cashew Nut Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork or Mixed Chinese Vegetables sound? It sounds good and tastes even better.
All specials include fried rice, crab rangoon, seasonal fruit, a fortune cookie and hot tea.
The price is right, the food is good and your meal is served in about 5 minutes from the time you order. Not too shabby.
If you like Chinese food then try Sesame sometime soon. -

Had a hankering for some Chinese food last night and had heard some good things about Sesame so off we went. Took my lovely girlfriend, her daughter, and her daughters baby girl.
From the time we walked in the door, the service was outstanding. Very friendly, we never lacked for attention and water glasses never went below half full. The decor is what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant that's been around for a good while.
We got an order of Crab Rangoon to split and they were about what you would expect, served with plenty of sweet & sour sauce and what I assume was spicy mustard (didn't try it).
We got an order of Orange Chicken and one of Crispy Beef with Orange Flavor. They were served with a large bowl of rice to share. Both dishes were really good, and portions were large so you're pretty much assured of leftovers for later on. Presentation was very nice as well, with carved vegetable flowers on a bed of finely shredded cabbage and parsley on the plates.
We enjoyed our meal and will certainly make a point of visiting again next time we get a hankering for good Chinese food! -

Probably the best Chinese food I've had in St. Louis. I wish a spot like Sesame were in CWE, as the options we've got in that part of town are pretty wonton -- it's a comfortable environment with friendly service and great food.
We ordered a few pretty classic Chinese dishes to try; my friends made sure to get me to have some of the Szechuan eggplant, which was absolutely to die for. The pork lo mein was probably the weakest dish; General Tso's was very solid.
Best part is the whole meal was very affordable -- less than $10 a person splitting four dishes four ways! If it's expensive American Chinese, I'm not interested, and this definitely fit the bill, in more ways than one.
(My friends report the biggest downer here may be the clientele. A nearby couple knocked a container of sweet and sour sauce over the floor which splattered all over my compatriots' attire. Not a single apology was offered!) -

Chinese restaurants are no longer considered exotic by any means so it may seem like one is just like the rest. Not exactly. Sesame is actually quite good.
I started with the won ton soup and shared an appetizer of pot stickers. The won ton soup was very good. The pot stickers were a little different than what I've had at other restaurants in that the dumpling was a thicker than what I am used to but it was actually really good.
The Three Velvet Delicacy of shrimp, scallops and chicken was recommended by the server and it was a winner. My friend had sesame chicken and he was very pleased with this selection. Both main courses were tasty and more than either of us could finish. Huge portions.
If you are in the SoCo area, Sesame is a great place to stop and get filled up. Prices are very reasonable and service is pretty quick but not rushed. -

I was happy I discovered this place today, cause I had an uncontrollable craving for Chinese food, but wasn't in the mood for some buffet. Sesame is the ideal place for carry out, and it's also a nice place to dine in. The portions are amazing, I mean huge! I went with the garlic beef, and it did not disappoint. It was fresh, delicious, and exceeded my expectations. Their menu is extensive and reasonable priced. The price compensates for the generous portions. The staff was courteous, and I was treated right. I will definitely come back to try their other dishes. But when in Sunset Hills, on Watson Road, swing by here for sure. It's a steller Chinese restaurant with class!

Used to go here all the time when I was a kid, but went there today for lunch! OH MY GOODNESS, forgot how good it was!
Lunch specials are amazing, you get a full meal with rice, crabragon and cookie of course. Now I might not be selling this so well, I mean a lot of Chinese places to that. But the food is by far the best in the area, the sauces are think not water, the crabragon is not lacking in cream cheese and the hot tea - makes all the stress of the work day go away. PLUS, almost all of the lunch specials are UNDER $6! Those are like McDonald prices! ;)
Now I personally love it when you get an orange after your meal, good for the tummy and settles it well if you ate too much like I did :)
I will always recommend the Mongolian Beef over any other dish! Just so good you could day dream about it! -

This place is old school. I doubt whether they've done anything to change the appearance or menu since maybe the mid-80's sometime. We started with a Crab Rangoon appetizer, then for our main course, had Chicken with Cashew Nuts and Chicken w. Broccoli. Of these three, the only one I really liked was the Chicken w. Broccoli. It was very good. The Crab Rangoon filling was very bland, although it was perfectly cooked. The Chicken with Cashew Nuts was just kind of okay - cashews were a little soggy. No way would I eat this re-heated. I didn't look at their specialty items, but I'm guessing some of them are probably pretty good, based on what I saw coming out of the kitchen.
If you're in the mood for an old-fashioned American Chinese meal, this place will suit the bill. Main dishes were mostly under $8 and portions were more than one person really needs. The rice was cooked perfectly. Service was very attentive and they have a full bar. The ambience is dated, but nicer than most Chinese Formica table type places. It's not far off 270 and there will probably always be an open table. -

Went back for a second helping of Sesame last night, and it was much better than the first! My fall back meal at most Chinese places is broccoli beef and this particular selection at Sesame is a win! I also got to try the Mongolian beef as well as the pineapple beef and both were extremely good.
My advice? Just stick with the beef at Sesame (instead of the chicken) and you'll be A-OK.Listed in: Un, Deux, Trois, St. Louis County and Beyond, International Flavor, Asian Persuasion

I'm funny when it comes to reviews I'm finding, and maybe this is a 'heads up' to my fellow Yelpers who read any future reviews. You see, an experience at a particular place, be it good or bad, sometimes will outweigh anything else. Furthermore, often is the case, that even if it's a bad experience it actually may be so bad that it becomes funny and thus my memory of wherever I'm at is actually a good memory...does that make sense? Such is the case with Sesame.
I'm reaching into the archives with this one as it was on New Years Day 2009 that my (then GF) and I went to Sesame, but the memory is vivid and worth writing about. First off, the place is huge...and like weirdly huge. If my grandma was Chinese, this is what her house would look like. Awkward mirrors, awkward 'stages' for seating, awkward dragons hanging different places...this place is awkward. We're seated quickly and our server greets us...and so my memory of Sesame begins. Our server I think had an appointment to be somwhere in about 15 minutes...maybe a hair transplant, possibly a bikini wax...who the hell knows, the guy was in a hurry. At first it was like, "What the...what just happened??" Like when he took our drink order while actually backing away from the table. No joke, the guy was listening to us as he was slowly inching his way back to the kitchen...I was actually leaning out of my chair to make sure he would hear me.
I wasn't going to mention this, but I think I have to. Our waiter was also Mexican. Now, this isn't totally weird, but it did hinder his listening to our meal order as he was repeating things back in a Spanish accent...Chinese, in Spanish...ok, sure. Again, all of this while he was barely standing by our table. Part of me feels like he was taking multiple table's orders at the same time, secretely...stealthly.
I order some sort of beef...she orders some sort of chicken. It was good enough, solid from what I remember, but then again we were starving and partly late for a movie (HEY! Maybe our waiter was late for the same show!) Oh yes, the waiter....it became a game with us. The game became, "See if you can answer the waiter's question before he cuts you off and runs back to the kitchen."
Waiter: How is everything?
Me: It's gr...
Waiter: GOOD! (runs back to the kitchen)
Me: Damn, almost had it
*10 minutes later*
Waiter: Would you like anything else this evening?
Me: Well, actu...
Waiter: GREAT! (does a Jackie Joyner Kersey back to the kitchen)
Me: hahahah...son of a!!!
*5 minutes elapsed time*
Waiter: Here is your check, just pay when... (that's him trailing off because by the end of that sentence I could not hear him anymore, he was already across the room).
Good times, Sesame...good times. We'll be back...and I'll win this game, Ombre...I will win this game. -

Unlike the previous poster i like this place, perhaps my sensabilities aren't as refined as i like to believe (but, i happen to think my sensabilites are just fine... sanity.. another topic!). However, with that said i won't say this is simply the best in the world, but i happen to find this place excellent. Perhaps it's that they actually have table linens, or that they serve the hot tea so nice but in the end it's the food. It comes down to just how much my tummy loves the food when i go there, and i don't think i have ever had a bad expirence with then when i have gone.

Ugh, I hate this place! Mediocre at best, made my tummy hurt occasionally. For some reason I got into a rut where everyone wanted to meet here. NEVER AGAIN!
