according to the great taco hunt blog, these were supposed to be the best taco's in the LA area, and though, despite my wide sampling of taquerias in the city i probably don't have the experience to call it the best
it didn't disappoint though, the taco's were awesome, so awesome that i had 5 and was contemplating a 6th.
i think my gringo ass spanish made it a little harder as well, my first round i went for carne asada, al pastor, and cabeza. I'm pretty sure i got al pastor, pollo, and lengua. I normally would have said something but i was hella hungry and they looked good anyways. and they were!
round 2 was another attempt at cabeza and carne asada, this time i actually got it. Probably some of the best cabeza i've ever had, tender, rich, and plentiful.
the only thing is that their salsa is maaaaad spicy, everything would taste good at first, then sort of fade into a mishmash or heat
i want to go back
Tacos were just ok, but, the lime kool-aid with strips of floating bologna was the best part of my meal.
Great tacos! I usually order Al Pastor or Carne Asada tacos. ohhh yeah...I have also ordered the bean and cheese burrito. GREAT TACOS! Great Burritos! The problem I have with this place is the yelling out of your order. Yep.. you heard me.. "DOS CARNE ASADA TACOS CON TODO PARA LLEVAR!"
I don't like that but I LOVE the food!
Heard about this place on The Great Taco Hunt and thought id give it a try..I was not disappointed in the least bit....The Carne Asada is some of the best i have had and was similar in flavor to the Carne Asada Prepared that i get at Sanchez meat market in Culver City.....My Tacos were hot and fresh except for a overcooked corn tortilla on one...The meat was moist and had no fat or grizzle....My mom didn't fair as well and in 2 of her 3 tacos she had grizzle...Ive never had a grizzle problem at King Taco and i hope that the grizzle my mom had in her Carne Asada is just a isolated incident or im dropping this place one star..
The salsa roja was fantastic but not as hot as King Taco....The horchata was tasty as well....
Their green and red hot sauces are very tasty and hot. Good local taco and burrito shack. Decent tasting meats. Competitively priced menu items.
I went again today at about 10:45 am because I swear there couldn't be a better carne asada taco then King Taco. With more confidence I can say It's definitely better than King Taco's carne asada tacos. The guy pulled out a chunk of carne asada, chopped up the meat, then used the tortillas to grab the meat. Plopped them in a foil, and dropped the onions and cilantro in bam bam bam. This was better than the show at Benehanas.
The red hot sauce isn't as spicy as King Taco but it's also more controllable. The meat is truly a thing of perfection. You do have to remember that King Taco makes theirs in a commissary so it's stored in vacum packed bags and reheated on the griddle. That may be a key difference in the juiciness and tenderness of the carne asada here. What ever it is I have now have a new number one carne asada place to enjoy. By the way I did notice they have a location in Montebello as well so I'll have to make my way down there to check it out.
The picture that's showing doesn't look like the tacos there so I added one for you that accurately shows the tacos.

Finally struck gold today by eating tacos at Sergios! The carne asada in their tacos is perhaps the… Read more »
These are some of the bombest tacos I have ever tasted. My friend kept bragging about this place and one day we finally went. It was cramp as hell inside, but soooooo worth it. My mouth waters thinking about them as I write this review. I only got to try the carne asada, but next time I will definitely go after some carnitas and pastor.
I knew I was headed in this direction. I was driving on auto-pilot and was supposed to be on the 60. Apparently it was something drawing me onto the 5 freeway instead. Before you know it, I was on the wrong freeway. Instead of turning around or whatever, I got off on Atlantic Blvd. I knew exactly how to get here. Almost side swiped by some asshole in a Dodge dually, fucker, I ended up following him down a side street. No, I wasn't going to kick his ass in my tiny Honda vintage vehicle. I made a right and then I was there.
I forgot I had already tried the lengua, didn't care for it much. My blood sugar was low, my thoughts were clouded, so I ordered a lengua burrito with no beans and a small horchata. The rice was ok but the red sauce was spicy. The horchata was sweet but a satisfying drink.
For those of you who are a bit squimish, then don't order the lengua. They take a big chunk and actually chop it up on the block for your order. So it's good that it's sort of made to order but I wanted the carne asada. Damn my memory. Also, if you can't take spicy, the green sauce is like a tomatillo green salsa. It's starting to remind me how King Taco taste like in the earlier years before they became industrialized and franchised.

Because of Robin R.'s review, that's how I found out about this place. A small joint, barely… Read more »
The tacos are good!!! I love the carne asada tacos!! They are perfect. The sauce is delish too! Specially the red one..its hot! Hey I would have given it a 5 star but the place sucks!! You must fight for the tables! There are only liike 5 tables and the place was meant for little people. The parking sucks as well. Good food, but need a bigger place!
Hit this spot up today for a Memorial Day Splurge. The immortal Bandini (from the Great Taco Hunt) really hit it on the nose with his review. Easily the best tacos south of the 5/710 interchange. At first the B rating on their window gave me cause for concern but after biting into my first Asada taco I knew the B was for BOMB!!!!! Honestly I consider myself a picky carne Asada and Al Pastor foodie and this place is simply DE-LI-CIOUS!!! Coming back for sure! King Taco has been dethroned!!
Oh and for those of you out there (you know who you are) who without asking have been served up a case of mudbutt by the "KING" don't fret! it's been over 3 hours since my visit and no sign of the dreaded bubblegut!!!! Yay!!!
a friend of mine from Commerce always seems to know the best places in East LA, so when she raved about this place I was pretty excited, which can lead to big disappointment. Not so with Sergio's. The meat was still sizzling when mr. chef starting chopping it up with his bare hands. Oh yeah, if you're health code conscious, this place may not be for you, it's all about the food and not the rubber gloves. Anyhow, the asada melted in my mouth in my burrito. So well worth the trip and so much fun 6 hours later in the bathroom. Oh, it'll getcha! I'd eat it again and again despite my white stomachs rebellion.
Doesn't get much better than this, perhaps you could say it's the crown jewel of Commerce. A tenth of a deduction for the absence of a condiment bar, and another tenth for the cramped quarters. But a bonus two tenths for the friendly dog around the corner. I think I'll call you little Sergio Jr.
So having grown up on tacos from "the taco truck" in Pasadena (and I'm not talking about the 2nd truck that arrived up the street - those from the area know what I'm talking about) and having had a few tacos around town, I wanted to... hell, I needed to compare my beloved taco truck tacos with others. And to be fair, I needed to do this sober. Most of my taco consumption at my Pasadena taco truck has been after a night of drinking. What better way to end the evening (if you're not having sex or if you've already sete it up to seal the deal and tacos are just a precursor... hell, call it foreplay and the tacos simply an aphrodisiac) than with a plate of al pastor or carne asada tacos? So the last time I had tacos from my favorite truck... slightly disappointed. And thus, I needed to confirm how my favorite tacos held up.
So I rounded up some friends for a taco hop... try as many taco joints in the area without feeling disgustingly full and end up at "our" taco truck (El Taquito).
Stop #1 - Sergio's. I've been here before a while back and I remembered that the al pastor were good. I don't know if it was because this was our first stop or what but damn these were good. Al pastor was moist and flavorful. Everyone was impressed. Standard preparation - double corn tortillas, meat, onion/cilantro mix and salsa roja. If I needed to be critical, the tortillas were good but not the best... I prefer them a tad softer... but not a big deal. And for those who tend to get all weird about trying out-of-the-way places, this joint is not too far off the freeway, on a main street, seems safe and has an A-rating. Defintiely a must try especially if you like tacos.
This a very small place, but it houses some of the best tacos and burritos in Los Angeles.
Everything is fantastic, but the Carne Asada is just unbelievable at this place. The tortillas, the burritos, it's absolutely amazing. If you don't live in Commerce, it's worth driving there for these tacos.
I grew up on this food. Seriously, I used to ride my skateboard to pick up menudo and tacos for me and my mom on Sundays when I was a teenager. I still hit it on Sundays and pick up food for me and my mom...and in the interest of passing on the family tradition...for my teenage daughter who can eat her weight in tacos de asada (no chile, no cebolla).
Here's a piece of advice for the gringos: The way to determine if a Mexican place is all that is by how many Mexicans eat there. I'm half Mexican so I qualify...lots of my peeps from Commerce eat up in this piece. I have a lot of friends that I've introduced to Sergio's friends from outside the area that eat here often. That's a lot of Mexicans ese.
This is good Mexican food at a place that's more along the lines of a King Taco than a sit down restaraunt although they have a couple of tables where in the midst of a hangover you can slurp up the life giving properties inherent in their menudo, which is the second best in the area...the best being El Picante's in Bell Gardens, although it was uncharacteristically bland when I et there a couple of weeks ago. Third best at least in the Commerce area is a bit of a surprise...drum roll prease...Ozzie's Diner on the corner of Telegraph Road and Slauson Avenue.
At any rate since this is a review of Sergio's Tacos and not the other referenced places, the stuff that in my opinion kicks ass, and this is in addition to the menudo, is the lengua (not for everyone...me? I love the stuff), the green chile and for those rare occassions I have the hankering for intestines..the tripas de leche. Good, good stuff.
I recently met the brother of the owner (Commerce is a small town) who agreed with me that the carne asada at King Taco is superior. That being said Sergio's is a good spot. Hit it up yo. I give it a big thumps up.
Oh yeah...no ups to the dude that bashed Sergio's and King Taco in the same breath/sentence...remember the Mexicanos know.
Great Tacos.. i think is better than king taco. Small joint but great price and food.
Sergio's is in the city of Commerce,an industrial city that borders Montebello and Vernon. When most people think of Commerce they think of Commerce casino. That and the dodgy roads because of the hundreds of big rigs that deliver goods to the warehouses in the area every day.
When I walked into Sergio's it was standing room only but It's one of those places where you can't really tell how crowded it is until you walk through the door and once you do everyone in the joint turns to see who you are. Nothing to see here I wanted to say, just a taco reporter from the westside.
The tacos here are some of the best in the city. The al pastor- thin cuts of seasoned pork and caramelized onions, the asada soft and full of sabor and and the carnitas moist and salted perfectly. They were finished with the best salsa roja I've had in recent memory.
Little tiny place over by my new work locale in Commerce that serves up a great Al Pastor Burrito for less than $5! Be aware that the hot sauce already on the burrito is damn spicy so dont go and add another shitload of it (like I did) as youll regret it! Hey, Im a gringo...
Im looking forward to trying all the different selections in the near future!
Cheers!
Damnit this is the best fucking carne asada i have ever tasted! Damn it has a good lemon flavor and its not dry! The burritos are good not over stuffed with just beans and rice. Their red sauce is spicy so beware! But wow it is better than King Taco!
If you yearn to find that perfect moment when the tortillas, meat and salsa come together with that cold beverage in hand waiting to quench the heat of that chile fire...visit sergio's tacos, a quick reminder of the excellence and simplicity of LA tacos. definitely in the upper echelon of LA taco establishments. The tacos are estilo mexico, authentic and delicious. During the day it's just the taco hut,if you go at night they open the taco truck in the parking lot too....everytime I've been, it's been standing room only but I think your food purchase allows you entry into a guild of foodies and also a secret I don't think a lot of folks know is their menudo which they serve daily and not just on weekends it's A+. So there!! my first review...go there, experience for yourselves and learn to follow my recommendations like a holy manuscript!!
this place is about as big as my....RESTROOM! it is so so tiny, but my lordy! they have awesome...EVERYTHING.
you name it, its good. the sauce is yummy, a little like king tacos but unique in its own way. the meat is prepared just right. if i could buy a pound to-go i totally would.
lucky me that its across the street from my granny's
I read on a blog how great these tacos are. Sadly, I was disappointed. It tasted just like King Taco, only the meat was way more fatty. Usually I enjoy muy spicy salsa, but this salsa was hot to the point where it drowned out the flavor of the meat. The parking situation sucked, and the seating inside was even worse. Did I mention I drove through LA traffic from Riverside CA for these mediocre tacos? I gave them three stars because they had lemon / lime available.
if you like tacos this is the place. not for the faint of heart as it's all about the meats at this little shack (try the pastor or carnitas). but for the real deal in tacos, not that baja fresh or chipotle crap, sergios is worth the drive from anywhere in la.
