Let me preface by saying I have never gotten a massage in America before. The adorkable Viv W. gave me a groupon for this place because she wasn't able to use this before it expired. 60 minutes deep tissue massage, here I come! I quickly scheduled an appt online and was able to book one midday during the week. I appreciated their professionalism first and foremost. They emailed and texted me reminders of my appointment. That's great for a forgetful gal like myself.
When I arrived, I really thought, wow this place is small. All the massages I've gotten before were in Asia and they were in really swanky places; got to love the US Dollar. Eh, whatever. Anywhichway, I was greeted warmly by a man. He signed me in and offered me water as I completed a questionnaire. It asked basic health questions and which areas I'd like the masseuse to concentrate on. I was told Gene ( or maybe it was Jean??) would be taking care of me.
In no more than 10 minutes, Gene greeted me and led me to the massage room. We had a brief introduction and she asked me which lotion scent I preferred. I think there may have been four options. I was debating between grapefruit and eucalyptus. I settled on eucalyptus for a more therapeutic experience. I undressed to my level of comfort and snuggled under the warm sheets on the massage table. I rested my face on the cushioned cradle and the rest was hx.
I requested Gene to focus on my back and arms. Even though it was a considered a deep tissue massage, I asked for "medium" pressure. I'm tender...no need to pulverize me. Once we established the right amount of pressure, everything went hush hush and I drifted in and out to the tunes of nature; you know the sounds of tides, and such.
At the end of the day, it feels good to get a massage, period. However, Gene was very thorough. She massaged every little bit of my back, shoulders, and arms; like I asked. She focused perhaps half the time on my back and arms. Gene was friendly but obviously wasn't trying to make conversation with me. I like how she was conscientious to follow the client's tempo. Anyway, she worked her way to my toes. Then I flipped over and she worked on my front. She ended with a scalp massage. When she was finished, I was left to dress myself.
Serenity offers 15% discount for next appointments, for first time clients. I believe there's a penalty of $25 for cancellation within 24 or 48 hrs. Read their disclaimer.
I like the eucalyptus-scented lotion they used. It was not overbearing and slightly sweet. I was sniffing myself the rest of the day. -

I had a pretty bad experience with these guys. I heard of them through Groupon, spending $74 in advance for two hour-long massages. But when I tried to book an appointment, there were no availabilities before the expiration date. Fair enough, but in a series of emails back and forth, Serenity Place was extremely unhelpful - they seemed concerned only with maximizing their profits for providing as little service as possible.

I was amazed at how Dave got down deep into my knots that have been there for 50 years! I have a real hard time finding some one good enough and strong enough for me. I'm a former ballet dancer, musician, and I still do some light hairdressing.
The place is clean and the woman at the front desk was very personable and went out of her way to help me. I like the fact that they take some insurances. That to me is a sure sign that it is not just a fu-fu wimpy massage spa with all the bells and whistles I could care less about. don't get me wrong, they had nice music and the place was serene. -

I can't think of anything that could have made this a better experience. Dave went out of his way to hit my "knots" and his table was the most comfortable I have been on. It puts those fancy schmancy places to shame. I'll be back!

I had one of the most unpleasant experiences I've ever had at massage studio. I was hoping that the person that I spoke with on the phone was not to be the same one to give me my massage, but I was mistaken. I had been really looking forward to my session, but I felt that because I used a groupon coupon, the therapist was annoyed and that sentiment was translated into the massage. From her ice cold hands at the inception, to the unceremonious way she didn't even offer to ask me how I felt about the session, or if I wanted to schedule something in the future, I wouldn't want anyone else to have great expectations from this business. If you want to relax, please go elsewhere!

I have really enjoyed my time at Serenity Place. I've been twice and seen Shamara both times. She is knowledgeable and works hard to deliver the type of massage I ask for. I plan to go back again and again

I was a dissatisfied yelper and in response to my concerns the staff made a concerted effort to reach out and get my massage scheduled. I enjoyed it very much--jean was great. It is not the most convenient location for me so i am not sure how frequently I will be able to return but I wanted to acknowledge the service and thank jean and the management for trying to make this right.

Shamara is great at massage and at business! She knows what customer service is all about. I needed a great birthday surprise for my sister's 30th and I didn't think about a massage until the day before. Although my sister was only in town for one day, Shamara made room in her busy schedule for the birthday massage! My sister raved and raved to me and all her friends back home about the fantastic massage she got during her visit to Atlanta. Give Shamara a call... you will love her! Thanks again for saving the day.
