Seoul Rice Cake was always this giant mystery to me. I've peered into its windows many a time since 2002, still curious, often wondering "CAN I GET SOME EFFIN' RICE CAKES OR NOT?!".

Yesterday, my questions have been answered. Yes, I can get some effin' rice cakes from this establishment. But they're gonna make it complicated and here's how.

After peering in, as I usually did and testing the doors, I figured out what my problem was before. I didn't wait for that tell-tale buzzing noise as in "the door is unlocked--you have two seconds to get in". So I did. I met with the proprietor and it was sort of an awkward exchange of "Uh... can I have some rice cakes?".  Yeah, I guess I could was sort of what I got from him. He only had two kinds left: one with red bean filling and the other, more of a savory sticky rice concoction with mushrooms at  $3.50 per styrofoam tray (about 8 rice cakes in one tray). He explains that he mainly does phoned in orders for stores and people hence the utter lack of anything in the "store" that says that it's a "store" where people are expected to come in, pick up items that he sells in exchange for legal tender. No no, I'd have to call it in first.

He was nice nonetheless and so were the red bean rice cakes. I'm thinking these were just made that day as the mochi outside is really soft and chewy and the red bean paste is quite delicious. I haven't tried the savory sticky rice but it smells rather good.

3.5 because... well it took me for-frickin'-ever to figure out what their agenda is. And, really? I have to call in every time to have some rice cakes? Then why is your sign and storefront so inviting and so promising--beckoning to me "Yes, I have tasty rice cakes inside!". Really, you need to deal with this identity crisis so people walking by won't be so confused for YEARS.
