Holy peanut butter cupcake!

It was gigantic and delicious.  The best qualities that a cupcake can have.  I'll be sure to head back for tastes of other cupcakes.

The frosting is also generous and oh, so cute--  in the shape of giant, color flowers!

Maybe It was because we went later in the night but when I stopped by with a friend after dinner we were very disappointed. I order a peanut butter cupcake which was pretty good (that gets the 3 stars) but my friend ordered a red velvet and it was very dried out/stale-like. I took one bit and couldn't eat anymore. Not enjoyable. I always like to give places a second chance so the next time I tried the caramel chocolate cupcake, which I liked. However my friend had the flourless chocolate cake and it was so thick and hard it reminded us of fudge. Not the best I've had.

Not remarkable enough for me to go back despite its close proximity to my apartment. I think I'll save my money for Molly's cupcakes or Sweet Mandy B's.

First off, being open until 8pm on Sundays wins big points in my book.  Most of the places in town were either closed all day or already shuttered by 6ish when we had our sweets craving.

So, once I was inside, I had a hard time deciding, and settled on a pumpkin bar.  It was roughly the consistency of pumpkin-pie filling but it stood on its own atop a bottom-only Oreo cookie crust.  Frankly, I don't think that pumpkin and chocolate mix, but I was craving pumpkin pie, and this was as close as they could get me.  I ate around most of the Oreo crust, and found the pumpkin mixture a bit spicier than grandma's pie ever was, in a good way.  B+

Of course, I had to take several items to go:

Chocolate mint and german chocolate cupcakes:  Only $2.75 each, which is reasonable compared to some of the specialty spots around the city.  I liked the top/icing components of these, but the cake parts seemed lacking.  B- and B, respectively.

Chocolate malt cookie:  They took my favorite milkshake and made it into a cookie.  What more can I say?  A-

Double doozy:  This is basically a whoopie pie made with chocolate-chip cookies instead of cake.  I've seen these a few other places, and I'm sorry to say that Sweet Mandy B's does it much better.  But I definitely wouldn't refuse to eat one again if you set it down in front of me.  B

Banana monkey bread:  This must be a regional term, because where I come from, we would call this a sticky bun (which can come with or without nuts).  No nuts on this version, and the banana flavor was very subtle, but it was muy tasty.  A-

Oh, one other thing--Fruity Pebbles "rice krispies" treats.  Fucking amazing (yeah, I said it).  Yum a dum dums.  I don't even know what to call these things besides "rice krispies treats" but the idea to make them with other cereals is genius.  Think of the possibilities--Cocoa Puffs, Lucky Charms, Golden Grahams, Cinnamon Toast Crunch...

Do you like Fruity Pebbles? Only the best cereal ever, right? Well Sensational Bites does a contemporary take on the classic marshmallow square only it's made with Fruity Pebbles! I took the remaining 25% home with me because I could never throw away a crumb of this ambrosial goodness.

Lots of good fall treats are in-- be sure to check out the pumpkin square with Oreo crust. I didn't try as it looked a bit rich for my taste, but my friend had to stop himself from finishing.

Besides gobs of sweets, Sensational Bites also offers coffee, tea, milk and apple juice. A darling place to chat and get cozy.

Truly one of my favorite cupcake shops in Chicago. I've been a huge fan ever since my co-workers got me a cake from there for my birthday a few years back. The chocolate cake with the decadent buttercream frosting was to die for. The cake was very moist and althought I'm known as a frosting scraper, I cannot help but sneak a few bites of frosting.

Their cupcakes are simple and so pretty to look at! Love the bubbly and bright flowers that top the moist tops of the cupcakes. Chocolate and peanut butter are my favorites. They also have a rotating selection of special flavors that are fun to try but what it comes down to is simplicity and quality.

Popped into this place as part of a tour of bakeries on the northside...out of all the places we went to, this one was far and above the rest. The type of place you'd want to spend some serious time -- both for their amazing selection of cupcakes, pastries and coffees, as well as the carefully thought-out and downright adorable (!) decor of their shop. Hands down, five stars.

Tried the red velvet cupcake and brought several others home to share with the hubby (he's lucky I didn't eat them all myself -- I very easily could have they were all that good). Red velvet cake had a nice deep color and burst with chocolately goodness. The cream cheese icing, however, was what really pushed this treat over the top -- orgasmic! Also tried the Boston creme pie cupcake, cookies n cream cupcake, and carrot cake. They have an extensive collection of cupcakes and cookies, all of which couldn't be cuter nor more delicious...you just can't go wrong with a bakery like this one. Highly recommend to anyone looking to indulge in their sugar cravings and willing to throw calorie concerns out the window!

I'm on my sugar craze again.....yeah, I know--so what else is new?!
Popped into Sensational Bites last week and again today after work.

Super CUTE space!  Ah, I love it.  It seemed a bit cramped with a large group ahead of me ordering treats, but after they left I got down to business....
 Red Velvet cupcake.
 Choc peanut butter cupcake.

To Go (of course)....didn't feel like putting on a show devouring those things in their quaint little seating area.  Luckily, in the privacy of my apartment, I was able to show my true emotions regarding my purchases.

Thumbs down for the choc peanut butter!   I was so disappointed.  Where was the pb flavor???  The buttercream looked like it contained pb, but it just had an odd smokey flavor.  Smokey pb?  Not so much.  And the cake?  It was a pass, too.

The RV was just okay.  I could definitely taste the red food coloring in the cake, which was a turn-off.

Today's purchases were much more satisfying:
Choc PB cookie- really yummy.  Would be perfect with a glass of milk.
Choc malt cookie- I inquired about this and the girl said it had malt powder and crushed up Whoppers in the dough.  It's super good!
Oatmeal raisin-  Ehh.  I ate two bites....anyone want the other half?!? ;)
White choc rasp cheesecake-  rich, decadent, creamy cheesecake with a swirl of tasty jam.  Really fucking good!!!  (I had to say it.  Because it was *that* good)!

In addition to all that sugary goodness, you can order a fancy coffee drink too.  They boast a huge list of espresso beverages, which I thought was a nice touch.

Keep SB in mind for your next sweets craving & be sure to get a hunk of that really fucking good cheesecake!!

When I was taking the bar exam a few summers ago, I used little treats from Sensational Bites to motivate me through my study weeks.  Excellent cupcakes, brownies and carrot cake!  I personally love the banana cupcakes with chocolate frosting.

The ringing endorsement came from my niece, who was four at the time.  She was spending a weekend in the city with us, so I took her for a pedicure and a cupcake.  Of course, she picked out the most enormous chocolate cupcake with four inches of Oreo-flecked frosting and a full Oreo cookie on top.  I sat her down at a table with her treat, turned around to pay, and when I turned around again (maybe 2 minutes later), there was my niece, covered in frosting and wearing a huge chocolate-y grin, with an empty plate in front of her.  "Isssssss good Auntie Embly."

Yes, honey, it is.

Great selection of amazing and affordable treats to satisfy any sweet craving.  Their strawberry cupcake defines the color pink by taste.  Wonderful brownies, cakes, cookies, and bars to choose from and a friendly staff to help you out.  And so conveniently close to the Music Box!

Probably the best cupcakes I've had thus far on my tour of Chicago cupcakes- cake was moist & delish, frosting was homemade-tasting, but not too sweet.. a good variety of treats in the display cases, and a super cute cafe atmosphere inside.  It was a little packed and there's not much room to move around inside, so with little seating I took my treat to go.  But overall a good experience, and yummy little cakes.

Like I've said in all of my reviews, I'm on a mission to find the best cupcakes in the city of Chicago. This isn't the place for me unfortunately.

I ordered the strawberry cupcake, chocolate on chocolate, chocolate caramel and one other that obviously was not that great or I would remember.

The truth is that I don't care for their frosting.  It's not smooth and creamy. It tastes like butter with food coloring, and when I bite down I crunch on little sugar crystals. UGH.  The strawberry cupcake was 'strawberry' in name only.  Although the frosting looked like there were strawberries mixed in, somehow there was not an ounce of strawberry flavor to be found in the frosting.  The cupcake was just a vanilla cupcake!  Now come on, why would you call a cupcake strawberry if it doesn't even taste like strawberry! Craziness, I tell you. Enough said.

Sensational Bites gets the award for most beautiful cupcakes!  You know the phrase...."Have your cake and eat it too" ......well it probably got started by looking at Senational Bites cupcakes....

They have a large selection of cookies, cakes, and cupcakes, and other desserts that don't really matter.  Their cupcakes are always fresh and the cupcake I ordered on a recent visit was still warm when I bit into it.....YUM.  Not too sweet or too heavy, these cupcakes are just right and can rival any cupcake bakery in Chicago.

I haven't ordered one of their specialty cakes, but they all look very creative and beautiful.  I would also recommend Sensational Bites if you were looking to pick up a varitey of desserts for a party, as they have quite the selection.

aye! look at the cakey cups!

ok, i may have stolen that from a friend that isn't a native english speaker and expressed it only after seeing cupcakes shaped like boobies, but i still think it applies here.

i think i shed a single tear after laying eyes on a box full of those babies. chocolate cake with peanut butter ganache!? hells to the yeah. the cake was über moist, the frosting was perfectly creamy, melt in your mouth delicious and not overly sweet. there was more frosting than i could handle, but my fellow cupcake devourees were glad to help me out and inhaled the peanut buttery goodness all by itself.

i can't comment on the store itself as the above mentioned cakey cups were delivered by the cupcake angel to a party i was attending.

I went to Sensational Bites as a part of a cupcake crawl, and this was the third stop, so I had already eaten several sweets and had something to compare it to. When I walked in, I absolutely LOVED the ambiance. This is what a bakery in the city should look like. Classy, with a focus on presentation. This is the kind of place where you could come and hang out for a long period of time. There is such a large, diverse selection to choose from. Cupcakes, beautifully decorated cookies, pecan bars...you name it, they probably had it.  I had the yellow cupcake with buttercream icing, and for such a simple cupcake, it was amazing! It was moist and delicious. This is what a cupcake should taste like! I will be back.

I came here and tried their coconut cupcake.  The coconut flakes and the entire cupcake tasted really fresh.  The cupcake also wasnt too sweet which was nice.  They have chai tea and loose leaf teas here! yay! They also have outdoor seating. The coconut cupcake wasnt my favorite, but they had a LOT of different cupcakes that I would come back to try.

a friend walked into work today with a dozen "quarter-end cupcakes" to celebrate the end of a good quarter at work...cute, right??  totally made my morning just knowing i had a tasty treat waiting for me after lunch!  they all looked so pretty and tons of frosting on top. she cut them all up so we could try a few (HA! a few...i tried 7!!) flavors.  i had:

Cookies n Cream:  fave frosting but the choco cake wasn't all that great
Lemon:  VERY lemon extract-y...i love lemon, so i liked this cupcake.
Strawberry:  good but didn't taste like real strawberries at all, more like sugary food coloring.
Vanilla Malt:  frosting on this was one of my faves and the cake was probably my fave. so this one overall i enjoyed the most!
Banana Nutella:  i am a Nutella fiend, so even though i don't prefer banana cake, this one was one of my faves.  not too rich, fantastic nutella frosting!!
German Chocolate:  moist, good coconut icing, overall 2 thumbs up!
Boston Creme:  i never met a cupcake i didn't like...til now...this one was not good and i was shocked!

Other feedback from flavors I didn't personally try:  choco peanut butter is really rich (but some others say this one is their fave), and the one that looks like a ho-ho has really good cream in the middle but not great icing on top.

i didn't try their red velvet, which is my staple go-to comparison cupcake, but i will say that i like this place least out of the other cupcake shops i've been to: Sugar Bliss, Molly's, Cupcake Counter, More.

I wish they were open a little later on weeknights, we always find ourselves wanting a delicious, ginormous coconut brownie or chocolate pecan bar after dinner... at 8:03PM.

A small, no frills dessert store-- their servings are quite large, all around $3 an item...many treats so rich you can save them for the next evening's oh-so-sweet nightcap.

Finally! Cupcakes I love! Quick replay of me eating my cupcake later that evening = "oh wow. oh.. wow. yep. the icing.. did you try the icing yet? oh yeah... uh huh. yeah."

Sooo reasonably priced. And super cute. Their signature cupcake is iced like a flower. Precious. They come in "minis" as well, in case that makes you feel better than scarfing an entire large one down your face.

I was so overwhelmed initially that my roommate and I just picked out a whole lot of stuff that looked good, but I can't wait to try their interesting flavors like lemon, oreo, and mocha.

I'd rather actually give them 2.5 stars but that's not an option and they are more of a 3 than a 2 so I'll stick with "A-OK."  When we first moved by this bakery, I thought i was in heaven because who doesn't love cupcakes within walking distance?  But alas, I've come down to earth and lately the cupcakes have been only so-so.  Granted, it's close to me and I still visit the place when I need a sugar fix but I wish they were better.  It's like a bad relationship, you go in with expectations that they're the one, yet they disappoint.  But you can't stop going back for "one more try."  I keep hoping for improvement, yet shuffle home let down time after time.

Maybe i'm going at the wrong time of day because my biggest complaint is dryness.  Sometimes the icing is a bit on the sugary side but i can deal with that.  Really, consistency is something I've noticed them lacking.  There's nothing i hate more than unwrapping my pretty little cake and getting dry mouth when i expected moist and gooey.  If the cupcakes taste would mimic their fluffy and perfect appearance, I'd be all in; but until then I'll be putting a hold on the relationship.  At least until winter when the neighborhood ice cream places aren't as appealing and I need a comforting cupcake.

Best coconut cupcake ever... fresh, light, and very pretty to look at. Not such a big fan of the lemon, but there are plenty of flavors to choose from here. Nice outdoor seating on Southport (since it's pretty small inside.) Super bonus points for quality loose leaf tea served in an actual mug, rather than paper cup!

This is an adorable little pastry shop in the midst of lots of restaurants near Music Box. While we were waiting to be seated at Tango Sur, we stopped in and bought a White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake slice which was delicious!! Large enough that we could split it and reasonably priced $3.57 considering it was cheesecake! They have tons of cupcakes, cakes, etc. We will definitely be back to try out the other treats!

We celebrated Pi Day with pie from Sensational Bites. Holy Moses, not only was the pie abso-freaking-lutely delicious, this hip little nook on Southport is the best bakery I've been to in Chicago thus far. Seriously, Peanut Butter Pie with Chocolate Ganache. If that doesn't jumpstart your salivary glands, how about Cookies and Cream Cupcakes?

With vegetarian-friendly treats and pet-designed nibbles, Sensational Bites caters to every Chicagoan. The fact that its breadth and width of variety doesn't at all compromise its depth and skill in individual treats is all the more impressive when you factor in all that it encompasses. I took home a Red Velvet, Chocolate and Raspberry Ganache and Mint Chocolate Chip Cupcake, all of which are perfectly rich, moist and flavorful (with delicious fillings inside!). Plus it left me wanting more...it's rare that I walk in somewhere and want to order everything on the menu when I'm full! I plan on returning soon to try their Eclairs and Fruity Pebble Rice Krispie Treats.

The cafe is very cozy as it holds three bistro-set tables with three chairs apiece, so if you're planning on sharing treats with more than a pal or significant other, plan on taking out and enjoying elsewhere. But if you're so inclined to dine in, they've got newspapers and fun rock music. I'm a huge fan of the "loft-meets-art-deco" decor. (think West Loop!)

But the straight boy test of just how good SB was? On the walk back to the car, we passed a few Irish bars rocking out for St. Patty's. So I asked my date if he'd rather have had a pint of Guinness or that pie, and he affirmed the latter without a second of hesitation. If it's Sensational Bites? Yes. Always pick the pie.

This is the BEST bakery I've been to in the city.  Sweet Mandy B's doesn't have A THING on SB's.

SBs has AMAZING oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, a touchdown cupcake (that looks a lot like the Hostess chocolate cupcake w/ a white squiggle down the middle) and tasty lattes.  A great place to cap off dinner, read the newspaper or sip lattes with your best friend.

Anyone that comes to Sensational Bites will leave with a smile on their face.

4.5 stars for Sensational Bites.

I discovered this charming bakery while waiting for a table at Tango Sur down the street. My wait turned out to be 2hrs long, BUT those 2hrs would have been hell on Earth if it hadnt been for the baked goods I got to try.

During my wait I had their German Chocolate cupcake and their Oatmeal Vegan Cookie. Their German Chocolate cupcake was moist, tasty and decadent. Im not a fan of icing/filling so I scraped most of it off the top, but the bit I had was good- really sweet(but I like it that way). The Oatmeal Vegan Cookie was GOOD- yes it did taste "vegan" but it was fruity and moist. I also had a cup of hot tea. The food looked so good about an hr into my wait I had to switch seats with a friend of mine so that I was facing the wall- I was being tempted to eat my weight in baked goods! Natalie in a bakery for 2hrs is NOT a good situation!

In addition to baked goods as far as the eye can see, they have a wide selection of beverages to enhance your dessert experience. In the summer/spring they have outdoor seating and the staff is super friendly. My idea of a perfect evening now includes putting my name down at Tango sur, walking down the street, enjoying a latte and a cookie while I wait.

The prices are not the cheapest, so if you are purchasing for a large group you may feel the pinch. Also, on most of their cupcakes there is a LOT of icing- but you can always scrape that off if you arent an icing person.

This is seriously the perfect name for this place. I've strolled by soooo many times resisting the delectable smells that slow me down to a drooling pace. I couldn't resist this past Saturday however, I HAD to have a heart-shaped frosted sugar cookie. MMMMMmmmmm and it was even better with one of the best soy lattes that I've had in this city. This is my new favorite house of decadence. I'm craving that latte again already!

They have every succulent treat imaginable here and there are even cute lil' tables to rest your weary bones for a bit. Go...treat yourself to a sensational bite.

I have never gotten anything there - cupcakes or cookies that are worth their calories.  If I'm going to pay for a sweet and eat those calories - it should be good -- I guess I was expecting "sensational" and it certainly was not.
On top of that, 2 Saturdays ago, it took them 1/2 hour  to make 2 lattes for my sister and I, we did feel that the guy working there was purposefully moving slow.  I wish I was exaggerating but  I am NOT.
It was the most RIDICULOUS thing I ever saw in my life.  I will NEVER spend aother dime there.  Their sweets aren't great and their SERVICE IS HORRIBLE!

I am a cupcake addict.  I have another friend who is also addicted.  so the recent surge in cupcake hot spots across the city has made up quite happy (and has forced us to hit the treadmill more regularly).

I've had cupcakes at a few places: Molly's Cupcakes, Sweet Mandy B's, Southport Grocery, Swirlz, May Street Market (they actually have a flight of cupcakes to sample!), Austrian Bakery, and Julius Meinl... I think I remembered them all....

SENSATIONAL BITES IS MY FAVORITE!  The other's were just eh.  Some had dry cake with no flavor and relied on the frosting to carry the cupcake.  Other's had FAR too much frosting and even if the cake itself was yummy you wouldn't know it.

At sensational bites the cake is moist and delicious!  And the frosting itself is soooo good.  Not too sweet and not overloaded.  Everytime I go in there I tell them they have my favorite cupcakes ever!  And I mean it.  If someone out there thinks they have had a better cupcake, let me know.  But I think I've found my favorite!

Now that's a f'cking cupcake!

Not only is Sensational Bites creative, but the tastes are amazing.  Expect grander things than grocery-tasting cupcakes, or your run-of-the-mill bakery.  These cupcakes exceed great heights.  Even the cookies are exceptional.

Service is fun and friendly.  I took the time to actually sit with a coffee and a Fruity Pebbles treat (yep, like a Rice Krispies Treat, only the fruity, crackly-Post-cereal option) around Thanksgiving time.  Like looking into a mirror, I was able to see what I must have looked like through other patron's faces, oogling over the beautiful gems of sweet behind glass.  Many people came in for pies that they pre-ordered for the holiday, but in between the pie people were sugar-seekers like me who couldn't resist the eye candy from the window.

I was glad to park my tush at a table.  It gave me a completely different, more leisurely perspective than from stepping into the crazed bakery line for a syringe of gorgeous sugar and be gone.  It's sweet in atmosphere, not just to the t-buds.

I know I am a sugar junkie, but it really does give me a thrill to walk out of the shop with a Sensational Bites box -- gives me a sense of pride, even.

Oh so delicious!  Sensational Bites is a wonderful little bakery.  My partner and I went one evening and were pleasantly surprised. I had a vanilla frosted brownie that was incredibly moist and rich.  My partner had a cookies 'n cream cupcake that was delicious.  The cupcake was nice a moist and the frosting was to-die-for.
They have a little seating area inside as well as patio seating which was nice because we had the dog with us.  They have great little to-go boxes which is helpful.
If you have a dog, they make regular and peanut butter dog biscuits that my dog goes crazy for!  Great treats for the whole family!

YUMMY! It took me over a year and half of living less than a mile from this place to actually go there.  My favorite cupcake is the chocolate with the oreo cookie frosting.  If you keep the cupcakes in covered container (I just used a tuperware one) they stay fresh for awhile, which is great if you can't eat the dozen or so that you bought because you couldn't decide. This is a great place to go for desert after stuffing yourself at Tango Sur :) I do usually eat the cupcakes with a fork because of all the frosting on top!

My search is over.  I have found the cupcake that meets all of my expectations from the buttercream (or cream cheese) frosting to the moist cake.  I tried the banana and the lemon and loved them both.

It was a long journey that came to a satisfying ending.

Delicious! And a big variety in styles of cupcakes, unlike other cupcake shops I've been to. Not that I've been able to bring myself to order anything but the chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting - YUM!

Wish their seating area was a bit larger ... with so much on the menu, and a variety of coffee drinks too, this would be a great place to meet a friend ... but without many tables, right now, you can't count on doing much more than stopping in.

Really good sweets - I tried a raspberry brownie, raspberry truffle cupcake, and raspberry cheesecake square (notice a theme?) and they were all great.

They originally lost a star for the surly service, but when I went back a second time, the ladies were both very friendly, so maybe it was a fluke!  We all have bad days. :)

Coming from a girl who isn't the biggest fan of desserts, this place is actually pretty awesome.  We stepped in here to wait for our reservations for the restaurant a few doors down.  They have eclectic desserts as well as your traditional favorites.  They have assortments of cookies, brownies, cupcakes, pies in addition to some fancy mixtures of hot and cold coffees and teas.

Because I don't normally eat dessert, I just opted for the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with a cup of coconut hot chocolate.  Both choices were great!  I was pleased.  My friends got the cupcakes and they loved it!  This place is super cute and really inexpensive.  If you're in the Lakeview area, I highly recommend stopping in.

This place is like having a little bite of heaven and then being kicked in the mouth while you chew.

Everything in here is just beautiful - gorgeous flowers on top of the cupcakes, pretty little cookies, just everything is and looks great - except for the surly ass servers' attitudes.

Once I came inside and stood at the counter for quite a while before someone came over and chastised me for even coming inside - I guess I was supposed to know they were closed? - and not letting me buy anything! Da-yum, use the lock!! What is this the honor system?

Thinking that had to be some sort of crazy ass fluke, I came in again and the guy at the counter looked like he wanted to spit in my boyfriend's face for asking if there was a restroom. The answer was no, like a really judgmental, snooty no, like the guy at the counter has learned to control his own urinary needs and looks down on those of us who still need a restroom. Then he told me to be sure I wasn't going to get anymore cupcakes, because it gets on his nerves when people do that and he has to change box sizes - Yeah, uh don't worry, I won't get anymore..

I still bought some cupcakes (what can I say here? I'm a straight up sugar junkie)  and had to eat them quickly outside under the stink-eye of my boyfriend who refused to taste any. One was great - their take on a Hostess chocolate cupcake with the white squiggly line on the top and cream on the inside - creamy, moist and very cocoa-rific.

I won't be back again though, because I don't know where all this crazy bad service is heading, but I'm afraid if I go in there again some angry ass baker might whoop my ass with a rolling pin and then pour hot fudge in my mouth. Heck, I can get that kind of treatment at home for free.

Luckily there are about 60 or 70 other places to pick up fantastic cupcakes within about 2 square blocks of this place where only the threat of a sugar coma lurks.

I absolutely love the treats at Sensational Bites.  Everything I have purchased/ordered from there has been delicious: birthday cakes, cupcakes, cookies and brownies.  The most pleasant surprise is the pie -- usually a mix fuit/berry combination.  Yum!

We stopped in here after seeing My Winnipeg at th Music Box. Sensational Bites is a great little place with an overwhelming assortment of sweets to choose from. Too many choices! At sweet shoppes I usually go with a cupcake, but it was a hot day and I wanted an ice cream sandwich. It was fantastic with two nicely sized chocolate chip cookies sandwiching vanilla ice cream. They also had a couple options on the ice cream sandwich. Ahh, it was totally the right choice for that day. It was inexpensive to boot. Can't remember exactly, but it was less than three bucks for a homemade ice cream sandwich. Awesome!

I had a bite of Z's mint chocolate chip cupcake and there was icing in the center! Egads!

The first time I went to Sensational Bites I split a Boston Cream Pie Cupcake with my sister.  Within an hour I was back to get another one for myself.  They are delicious-- vanilla cake, creamy custard filling, and a rich chocolatey ganache frosting.  Perfect!

Not only are the cupcakes great, the place itself is really cute-- it's not jam packed on a Saturday morning, there's room to sit and enjoy your treat, and you don't feel like you're being rushed out.

The staff is nice too-- the day before Easter I saw a couple come in looking to buy a pie.  Even though they had sold out of fruit pies, the owner (?) offered to make them a key lime (at 5:30 pm!).  Sooo nice!

Sensational Bites may be one of the single most underrated (or undiscovered) treats in our fair city.  At the time of my writing, Sweet Mandy B's has 168 reviews, Sensational Bites only 26.  That is a travesty.  At SB (as opposed to SMB's) you get all the cupcake, with 1/10th the yuppie factor.  Not that it's in a less upscale neighborhood (quite the contrary), but Sensational Bites just seems to maintain a sense of normalcy and lack the consistent screams of children.

I get Sensational Bites cupcakes every few weeks, and I get almost every family birthday cake from here.  We have never been disappointed.  We have tried many different combinations, and everything we have ordered from Sensational Bites has been appropriately Sensational.
