Redding, CA
BEST burritos and tacos in town!

Review from Angie O.

You would be hard-pressed to find decent Mexican food anywhere in Redding beyond Senor Rosas... in fact, I once found broccoli and carrots on a burrito from some other 'Mexican' restaurant in town. But I digress, the burritos are likely as close to authentic as is possible in Redding, except a little more healthful in that nothing is fried. There's no place I'd rather be eating a hungover breakfast at 3pm! The only downside is that they aren't open longer hours.

I might be a little biased since my husband knows the guy that now runs this place. I really liked the food here. We ordered the fish tacos and they were awesome. I am very picky when it comes to fish tacos and I thoroughly enjoyed these. We ordered the 2 tacos with rice and black beans. There was so much food that I could hardly finish the second taco. The rice wasn't anything special so I focused my eating efforts on the fish tacos and black beans. Next time I'm in Redding I will likely just order the tacos as they are filling enough by themselves. Also, we arrived at Senor Rosas around 11:45 and by 12pm it was super busy. There is very little seating inside and a covered patio outside. It was a hot day and I'm glad we got there before the lunch rush. It looked as if there would not be enough seating for all the people coming through the doors.

I'm getting ready to head out of town tomorrow and my dad suggest we grab a burrito at Senor Rosas since I have yet to try 'em. My dad says they have the best burritos in town...my brothers say differently. From here on out my DAD makes the call on where to eat...We ordered the Chicken Burrito. As we waited for our food (which seemed like a long time and it would have been nice to have been offered some chips and salsa during our wait) my dad gave me a history lesson on the place (he has lived in Redding 20+ years). The burrito was huge just as my dad said it would be! I ate half and was stuffed. The ingredients were fresh and by far the best burrito I have had in years! I highly recommend when in town you grab a bite to eat from Senor Rosas!
I read the previous reviews and I agree with all the dewds; the chick at the counter is beautiful! -

I suggested Señor Rosas because I wanted to try the fish tacos, which turned out to be good enough to earn the fifth star. Also, you'll want to check out the condiment/salsa bar, which is now the most interesting in town. Mango salsa, habanero salsa, corn/black bean salsa, pickled red onions, etc. Good stuff.
It was cool that they had the Uruguay-Netherlands football match on the flat screen, and the guys in the kitchen were paying rapt attention to the game. (Tied 1-1 when TL and I finished our lunch -- we got to see both goals, which were long-range bombs. The orange dudes ended up winning 3-2.) All of TL's favorite Eurotrash-looking players are from South America, including Uruguay's long-blonde-maned striker, Diego Forlán.
Let's talk about chicks, man.
The new girl at the counter isn't the one that I mentioned in my last review. The girl today was tall and willowy; a gracile form with the fine bone structure of a model. Still, I don't have to change the line, "you'll just have to see them for yourselves, gentlemen." Except this time I'm talking about an amazingly gorgeous set of blue eyes...... and...... well........that somehow makes me feel better about myself.
Still, I'm steeling myself for the fist of death to the shoulder.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Had lunch here about a week ago. When I ordered the quesadilla I asked what my meat options were and the girl at the counter told me steak or chicken then mentioned that they had pulled pork. I ordered the pork it was the most amazing quesadilla I have ever had!

LAME!! I ordered a couple tacos, at $3.00 bucks a piece. There was hardly any chicken in it but LOTS of lettuce. The shells were straight from the bag, not warm, not cooked, nothing. YUCK! I took one, tasteless bite and the whole taco would fall apart. See my attached picture. I was so pissed and disappointed, I could just spit. Which is basically what I did after eating about 4 bites from each taco.
My boyfriend got a Hi-Tech burrito and just complained that it had no flavor. Go to Burrito Bandito or Puerta Villarta on Hartnell instead. -

Best burrito I've ever had. Period. If you're driving through Redding, you must stop here. It's worth it. I know all the Bay Area burrito snobs won't believe me, but it's true. There just isn't a better burrito down here. I can't explain it. I don't know why. Maybe it's because they chop everything up and grill it right in front of you, maybe it's because it's all fresh, maybe they add crack. I don't know.
You must try it for yourself. -

I recently won a gift card for this place so we recently decided to check it out. Location is a little odd, drove past it 2x before we found it but I was not disappointed. Not only was it HUGE but it was one of the best vegi burritos I've ordered, also like the option of black beans. I'm going to have to try the fish tacos next time, saw some on a neighboring table & they looked delish!
A P.S. for all those Oregon transplants I see around, if you're from the Eugene/Springfield area this place is comparable to Burrito Boy just with a smaller menu. Definately worth checking out. -

I'm fairly sure that everyone who works here is white. Still, they make some damn good burritos. There is nothing better than chilling out on their patio, eating a burrito, drinking a soda, and reading the newspaper (they have lots of them).
Plus, you can't go wrong with a Giants baseball themed Mexican food restaurant. It's strange, but it works. -

Redding, CA
A good place for burritos, but not as good as San Jose or the Mission area of SF.
They are SF Giant themed, but apparently don't know that the team moved out of Candlestick.
A little slow service since they assemble each burrito one by one.
NEW review. It has been almost a year since I wrote the review. Since then I have been back almost monthly. While I like Burrito Bandito better, I now give Sr. Rosas 4 stars since their service has improved. The food is still cooked with each order, I guess, since it still takes forever.
Wish they had carnitas. -

Best Burrito in town, bar none. Don't even try to argue this. I will fight you. It is delicious, generous portions, amazing salsa bar, which now includes ghost chili salsa. I HIGHLY recommend Senor Rosas to all burrito admirers.

I live hundreds of miles away, and I still get those late night senor rosas cravings...... I've been eating here so long that I think it has gone through 3 different owners? All that matters is that the recipes are passed down..... I always get the bean/cheese/avocado..... delicious

So I have been going to this place for years! I have not really tried to much on the menu, as I always get the Hum Baby, steak, dry, it never changes! I have been with people who also order the same thing every time.
In the beginning it was amazing, I mean the sort of amazing where you crave it and nothing else would make it go away!
But about 6 months ago, a friend and I walked in on a Saturday afternoon, we had been drinking the night before and this place was the only the thing that sounded good. We walk in just before 3pm, we are regulars the owner knows our names and he says to us "oh hey guys sorry we are closed!" Really? The door is unlocked people are eating and you are still making food. So I ask what time do you close? We close at 3pm! the owner says. Wow I was shocked, what place tell regular customers they wont serve them one minute after they are suppose to close!?
So that wasn't what made me feel like I may never go back! It has been that over the last 6 months the food and the service has been horrible! It has taken at some points up to 20-25mins to get our food! Then when we get it the food is falling apart or is soggy! I ask for my burrito dry because I hate the bottom of my burrito to be soggy! My friends have found that the chicken is burnt and the beans taste disgusting!
I love Mexican food! I use to love this place, but I can't say I want to go back anytime soon. The owner seems to be more interested in what music is playing then the quality of food! He has different workers in there all the time and all in all the once 5 star burrito place has become a one star disaster all in a very short time! I really hope he can bring the quality back up! Or he will continue to lose regular customers that don't mind paying the $20 it cost to eat for two people. -

Decent food that is very fresh but not authentic at all. I got the veg burrito, and it was massive. My husband really liked his tacos, but also didn't think they were very authentic.

Señor Rosas has the best tacos and burritos in Redding, and a lot of area outside Redding. It's not a fancy restaurant, and the food sometimes takes a little while to appear, but it is always worth it. The food is prepared by two chefs who take pride in what they make. I love the One Buck Tacos. They're simple, and of the al carbon style of cooking, which means they're just right for me. There's nothing but the meat (I always have steak) and corn tortillas. The meat is nicely seasoned, and there is an incredible salsa bar Heaven! Three of them and a drink makes a perfect lunch for me, and I'm guessing they're easy on the waistline.
