Went here the other week to pick up dinner for the co-workers.  Place is Korean run and average priced for a sushi restaurant around the area.  This small plaza on North First Street gets packed during lunch with all the North First Street/Tasman/Montague area workers, but isn't that busy during dinner time.  This place seems family-run and the people here are really nice.  Gave me a cup of tea to sip on while i waited a couple minutes for them to finish boxing/bagging up our take-out order.

Food was pretty good.  I've tried their salmon and beef teriyaki before.  It was okay.  I liked their sashimi the best out of what I've tried.  Their sushi is good too, but nothing super great.  Place is worth a try though if you're in the area.

I give them 3.25 stars.

This place isn't bad. It is really small and was very packed, but my friends and I were able to get a table after a few minute wait! Not bad at all, considering it was lunch time and that this restaurant is located in a plaza surrounded by various companies.

I ordered a 3-item bento box, I forgot the price but the prices are listed on their website. I got Chicken Teriyaki, California Roll and Sashimi. The chicken Teriyaki wasn't bad, and they give you a handful of it too! I had to take some home for leftovers. The California Roll was decent, and the sashimi sucked. It was Tuna Sashimi, but they were three tiny slivers :(, it's ok it wasn't TOO bad.

The Cali rolls are actually big! When my friend ordered a California Roll to himself, it came out in 8-10 pieces!!! We were all expecting the common-6-piece roll. NICE! Definitely worth the money I guess if you're looking to fill yourself up.

There's 2 tables outside if you want to sit outside also.

This place is very close to work and one of my coworker likes it here so I come for the company, not necessarily for the food.   The service here is very nice, they are quick to seat, take order and deliver the food.   I want to note that this not Japanese owned (not that it matters to me, but some purist only go to Japanese owned Japanese restaurants).   If you like lots of creative roll choices, this is a place for you.   I am not fond of them.  I ate the following (not in the same day):

Ten Zaru Soba - cold soba noodles with Tempura - decent portions and taste, but I don't think you can mess up cold nooldes or fried foods.

S-2 - Salmon Teriyaki and Potstickers. - the salmon was great, but I should have asked to leave off the teriyaki sauce ( I am not a fan of any sort of sweet sauce).   The potstickers were a bit too crispy for my liking.

M-1 - Saba Shioyaki and California Rolls - the saba was fantastic, perfectly grilled and nice and oily.    The salad was good.  The miso soup was not that great, only had tiny tiny bits of tofu which had an old taste to it.   There should have been  seaweed.   The worst Calif roll I ever had.   It just didn't have any taste, the fake crab was really stringy and the whole thing fell apart after taking a bite (since I could not fit the entire thing in my mouth)

I will still come here cause the service is great and a quick place to grab lunch.

I've been coming here for years for dinner. They have good food and a friendly staff. The place is pretty small with only enough room for about 30 people.

This 2.5 star restaurant has decent service and decent quality food, but is somewhat pricey for the value. The raw fish is fresh and decent, and mostly just the standard types of fish.  There is a wide selection of sushi rolls featuring various combinations of American-style sushi roll ingredients like mayo, avocado, jalapeno peppers, cream cheese, etc.  Prices are on par for this type of restaurant  - you will probably wind up spending about $12-15 on an average lunch.  This is an OK lunch spot if you work in the area but not worth making a detour for.

We decided to check this place out since it's close to home and we wanted something quick.  When we arrived at 8pm, there was one other table there eating.   The waitresses knew these customers and were talking to them for quite a bit.  I always think it's nice when a restaurant has a good rapport with customers, but it's a bit much when they neglect the other customers!

We ordered the following:

Edamame- served warm with salt.  Nothing special here, but overpriced for the amount they give you.
Gyoza- the meat tasted strange to me.
Spicy Chicken / Tempura bento- spicy chicken meat tasted strange, not fresh.  Tempura was above average.
Saba Shioyaki / Sashimi bento- Saba was cooked pretty well, but the portions were small for the price.  Sashimi was fresh, but came with 4 tiny pieces.  The salad dressing was pretty good.

Even after the other table left, the waitresses were just talking to each other and didn't pay attention to us unless we flagged them down.   I give this place 2.5 - 3 stars.   They had a pretty extensive sushi roll menu, so I *might* come back if I'm craving sushi and don't have much time to go somewhere farther.  However, the price and so-so food makes it hard to come back.

Fans of Japanese cuisine seem to fall into two cohorts, one with a fondness for increasingly outlandish rolls with flashy names and the other wish a fondness for the type of food you might have in Japan.

This place, run by non-Japanese of some sort, caters to the fan of the over the top sushi roll but, unlike many Japanese places run by non-Japanese, will not leave the purist overly disappointed.

The bento I had, a combination with sashimi (3 small, lonely pieces of maguro), saba (grilled mackerel, a rather tasty but somewhat oily fish) and california rolls (6, a reasonable portion), was tasty, but not overly so, and somewhat spendy, but not overly so.

Want some non-Japanese Japanese food on the high side of average in terms of both price and quality for genre? Great choice. Hardcore purist or tightwad? Go elsewhere.

I don't mind coming here for lunch, but just make sure you get here before the lunch-time rush.  If you have two people, then also be prepared you may end up sitting next to another couple as there is limited seating.  Although it's common in Europe, it's not so common in America.

The sushi is par--nothing spectacular, yet it is on-point.  Of the dishes I've had, I do enjoy the Climax Roll, hiyayakku (i.e hiya tofu (i.e. cold tofu)), and Fire Cracker roll.  There's something newly intriguing to me about three types of fish rolled up maki style and then deep-fried.

If you're in a rush, then call ahead and have take out.

The only problem I've ever had is trying to find parking in their incredibly tiny parking lot.  I think there are too many little eateries here with too few parking spaces for this plaza to really be successful.

One measly star because:

- Udon doesn't take more than 20 minutes to make.
- Just because another customer didn't want to be seated next to (note: next to...NOT in the same table) another group, doesnt mean that you stick that group to another OCCUPIED table, not even asking if the people there mind.
- There is such a thing as water refills and guess what it doesn't take more than 10 minutes.

People who been there in 2006 should go back again to see their changes.

I was there last Thursday night to order to-go and their staffs were very nice.  They gave me a free salad w/ squid and hot tea while I was waiting for my order.

I went back today w/ my coworkers and they all like their food and sushi.

I really liked the spicy Chirashi.  It's Korean style and it's yummy!

============================

I visited Japan last year and was so awed by the beautiful country and it's beautiful people..... I fell in love with the country, it's culture, it's people and it's cuisine... of course the VEGETARIAN kind :)

Having said that, I  want to start off this review by saying that when I entered Sendo Sushi, I was reminded of this one sushi place in Tokyo station.... so yeah it feels nice when the ambiance is nice and AUTHENTIC :) the people are nice and friendly.

Service is quick and friendly

The miso soup and veggie sushis are fresh and tasty :)

It's soooo closseeee to my place.... yay!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a little Japanese place in a little strip mall of places that primarily subsist on selling lunch to the surrounding tech crowds.  Sendo is a perfectly acceptable lunch place with above-average-for-a-strip-mall-in-tech-land food.  It's definitely not gourmet Japanese, but neither is it wholly teriyaki glop.

Sendo offers a slightly more customizable selection of bento boxes than Tasman Teriyaki down the road, so they get points for that.  For example, you can get pork katsu with potstickers or California rolls, or *both* potstickers and California rolls for a little extra.  Tasman only offers a choice between the two.

I do wish their gyoza were available pan-fried instead of deep-fried.  FWIW, they're beef, not pork.

One caveat is Sendo isn't really set up well for takeout food, and the inside is tiny, cramped and kind of dark.  We went at rush time (12:15) once and ordered bento to go, but were shuffled outside to wait by ourselves because the place was too busy inside.  Tasman at least has a little bench inside.

So, I'd recommend this place if you're in the area and need lunch; but don't necessarily make a special trip.

Desperate for a sushi fix and in the need for something fast, I came here for a quick bite during work.  I ordered a dragon roll, an avacado and unagi roll and the garden salad to go.

Garden salad - generic iceberg lettuce with a delicious but heavy tasting sesame dressing.  I love ginger dressing and was a little disappointed to not get that but the sesame dressing was good.  It tasted mayo based, however, which was a disappointment.

Dragon roll  - delicious and huge.  Definitely a keeper, although I am very fond of them.

Avacado / unagi roll - Didn't realize I'd essentially ordered the same thing since I got this last minute.  It was pretty decent but heavy.

Everything was liberally soaked with the unagi sauce and cucumber was put into my dragon roll.  I dislike cucumber in sushi so I should have gotten this removed.  I would have liked it more if the sauce hadn't been soaking my sushi.

Firecracker roll - spicy salmon deep fried with "sauces."  Too much sauce but I liked how warm it was.

Shrimp tempura roll - average.  Too complicated - I'm used to just shrimp tempura with spicy mayo and roe.  And I like it that way.

Chirashi - a great way to try all sorts of sashimi.  Not so sure I liked all that was included but it was interesting to try everything.

Other observations:  Since I got it to go, I cannot remark on the service.  Chef was fairly friendly, waitresses seemed really freaked out.  It was busy and the tiny shopping had little parking, which was a pain.  They also cut their sushi too big so they're not bite sized.  Not cool.

Came here for lunch the other day and was seated immediately (11:30am). I ordered the regular sashimi lunch which is comprised of tuna, salmon, and hamachi, rice, and a side salad. I thought the sashimi was decently fresh and well presented but about half of it was still moderately frozen! I didn't feel like complaning which is obviously my fault. This was my first time here and it might be an isolated incident? but it seems odd to not feel that you are slicing up a semi frozen piece of salmon. I probably won't come back.

I never even bother to review businesses, but eating here for lunch on Thursday, 2/19, made me very, very sick (it's been 6 days and I still live in the bathroom, so to speak). It was a nasty, nasty lunch.

A solid 3.5 star joint. A big sign on the outside, but the door was hard to find. Go figure. Anyhow, I've been here a few times with clients since they are centrally located on N 1st St. Better than what I expected. The tempura is pretty good. Quality of fish is not bad, portions are good. The saba is actually very good - and good sized portion as well. Lunch bento box is about 13 - 14 bucks for the 3 item combo. For a quick lunch sitdown place, I recommend it. Not that it matters, but waitstaff is korean - not a japanese fyi.

I went here with my boss and a co-worker.  The food was decent however the portions were rather small.  I had the bento box but I don't think it was worth the price based on the portions that were given.  The soup was bland and very ordinary.

Lets see, the sushi was slightly bland and the portions were small. The service is OK, the people seem not to happy about working there.  I was surprise to see they had a nice selection of Sake, which is a plus.  This place is own and ran by non-Japanese, so I did not expect much.  The prices overall where not comparable to the food.  If you like all the flashy bay area invented names of sushi rolls.  This place is for you.

I heart them, the service is always awesome, the food is fresh, the prices are soo cheap (considering I go there for the sushi).  Your best bet is to get your sushi with no sauce, thats the only drawback.  The sushi chef tends to be a bit of an ass...not real friendly.  if you get something and its wrong dont hesitate to take it back, the owners will be glad to make it right.  Your best bet is to be specific when you first order it.

This is right near my office, so I sometimes get sushi to go. Service here is regularly really bad if you dine in. I like their specialty rolls and the miso soup (how can you screw up miso soup, right?).  As the first reviewer said, decent for a strip-mall joint that caters to high tech lunch crowd.

"Meh. I've experienced better." Just like the comment says for two stars.  I've eaten here three times and I'm not sure I why kept going back.  Maybe it was because I thought each time would get better, but it really didn't.  The last time I ate lunch here, I had the Chicken Teriyaki.  It was ok...I really did have better.  I didn't even finish it.  The waitress noticed and asked me if I didn't like it.  Me, being polite and not wanting to hurt the chef's feelings said it was good.  I used the excuse that being pregnant made me not want to eat.  Yeah, I know, bad...but it worked.  She didn't bother me after that.  The one thing that I did have that was really good was the Mexican Roll.  This saved it from me not giving this place a one star rating.  Also, for being lunch time, this place had no customers in it at all.  The whole place was empty.  Not sure if this is because of the location or that the food just isn't really all that great.  In this case for me, the food isn't really all that great.  Also, it's a bit pricey for the quality and quantity of food they serve.

Ok for weekday lunch, although it's a small place to get there early or be prepared to wait a little.

Service is consistently poor, but prices are decent and sushi is ok.

I've been back several times when needed a sushi fix and was in the area. People I've been with seem to really like their bento box lunches.

This place ia a good choice if you work in the area, have a sushi craving, and don't mind bad / odd service.  I came with a friend and ordered a bento box lunch with Teriyaki Salmon, California Roll, and Tempura.  The restaurant was kind of dark and upleasant and busy inside, so we sat outside. It was a beautiful day, so that was nice.

The waitress was very pleasant and took our orders promptly.  The food came out relatively quick, but the guy that delivered it just came outside and was staring at the 3 tables, not sure where to put it.  So he brings my friend her dish first and she takes it and then turns it around so the salad faces her and she takes a bite.  30 seconds later, the waitress comes out, picks up the dish, turns it around the other way, and then places it back on the table, like she is delivering the dish in the first place.  Very odd!  Anyway, I got my food shortly after...

The food was delicious. I love the salad and the salad dresssing.  The salmon was perfect.  The california roll tasted great.  The tempura was cooked just right and had a great selection of every kind of veggie you could possibly want, plus a giant prawn.  All of this was about $10.  I would definitely go back again, especially on a nice day, when I can sit outside and not in the restaurant.  Oh, and go early or late, there are waaaay to few parking spaces there at lunchtime!

Over priced sushi and japanese bento boxes with small portions. Sushi's rice is dry and not very special.

Service is horrible and slow. Some of the waitresses will sometimes ignore you when you are standing there waiting for your food even when you flag them down. Bad for people who are eating there during their lunch break as it WILL take you atleast 2 hours to be seated, order food, and pay your check.

The service is spotty - it can be good or bad depending on the day and the amount of customers, but the food (overall) is good.  There are a lot of choices for the bento boxes and the sashimi is quite decent.  Compared to a lot of south bay sushi places, this place is consistently good.  Fish is fresh, portions are good, prices are even better.  The only neutral/negative is the service, but if you can get past that, it's a good choice for the immediate surrounding area.  I've been to a bunch of South Bay sushi places, most of which, I can't say I like.
