    Really love this place!
I've been going since I used to live right down the street, and now I still make the trip from the NW burbs.  It's just a great neighborhood steakhouse.  Excellent food, service is very nice and personable, atmosphere is relaxed.  The steaks are prepared perfectly, and whatever seasoning they use is absolutely mouth watering.  Love the rice pilaf side dish too.  We always order a steak (they cut it to practically any size you want!), and last time also ordered the Cajun Mahi Mahi Special, it was delicious.
The wines are very reasonably priced, which makes this a great date-night spot, and the food is priced fairly, especially for the quality.
Oh and Tony, who I assume is the owner, seems like a great guy.  As a director of operations for several restaurants I can tell you this, that guy takes pride in his restaurant and it shows. He personally greeted us at the door and had a little small talk before bringing us to our table (well he let us pick any table in the joint).
If you're looking for a big fancy pretentious steakhouse, go somewhere else and pay twice as much for some wall decor and smaller portions.  For some honest to goodness great steak and dining, come here!

    OMG, their burgers are amazing!

I used to work at a bakery about 2 blocks south of their restaurant. And one of my coworkers suggested we order burgers there one weekend afternoon.

I'm so glad she did, because it was so delicious! Their meat is ground, prime steak, and it makes the burger sweet and yummy. For about $12 you can get their hamburger and a bunch of steak fries, which are always hot and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Perfection.

I think for the quality of the cheeseburger in relation to the price, it's the best find I've made in a long time. Also, their delivery was always quick and efficient and everyone was nice and courteous.

    Try it!

My wife and I went after a play at the Apollo. Loved the place.
She had the large filet, and I went with the Cheeseburger due to the reviews on yelp.
Started with a loaf of hot bread--very nice.
The Burger was outstanding, melt in your mouth good. Cooked just right. The fries along side were perfectly cooked for me. Also had a salad which was pretty average.
My wife gave the filet 5 stars--thought it was prepared very well, great flavor, and the vegetables along with it were excellent.
Service was very good, but we were there at an off time, so I can't judge very well. Very friendly.
    We will certainly be back!!

food was decent, but don't dare ask for a refill on a glass of fountain pop because they charge you for every refill. This has to be the last resteraunt  on the planet that still does that.

It's been a busy week, even by my standards. Sometimes I forget to eat... wait, it's 8pm? Hello, low blood sugar. I think I'm too weak to walk over to the grocery store so delivery it is. But... what will it be? I'm bored of Thai, sushi, pho and even my go-to Mexican spots on speed-dial. And then I remember: Select Cut delivers and they're known for their burgers.

$15 minimum delivery fee on GrubHub. Hmm, what to get besides that $9 burger? I added a piece of key lime pie and a Diet Coke to make the minimum and was quoted a 45-minute wait time. I had become a lady-in-waiting and took on my duties like a seasoned royal. You know, bubble bath, a sip of diamond-kissed champagne, a chat with the queen... just kidding. More like checking Facebook/Twitter/Yelp/Work Email/Personal Email x 3. It is the life.

I heard the knock and got up so quickly I felt the blood rush to my head. This is my "need.protein.now" reminder - I opened the bag and was surprised to find everything so neatly packaged. The cold components of my burger (lettuce/tomatoes/onion) were wrapped separately in foil to maintain their chill and crisp. Digging it!

The burger itself is very simple (your choice of cheese; I picked cheddar) with a deliberate focus on the meat. It was cooked a tad under my medium request... usually, I don't go medium rare on my first date with burger beef, as I require an established relationship. Trust. But, the call was made and the call was right: Medium rare is the only way. So let's go all the way (and we did). And who wouldn't with such a soft bun and juicy, exquisite meat.

I may have even sang the first verse of Spice Girls' 2 Become 1 (yeah, that's how they spell it).

    Candlelight and soul forever
Dream of you and me together
Say you believe it, say you believe it
Free your mind of doubt and danger
be for real don't be a stranger
We can achieve it, we can achieve it
Come a little bit closer baby get it on, get it on
'cause tonight is the night when two become one

    http://www.youtube.com...

"I had a little love, now I'm back for more." It's going to happen... oh, my beautiful burger booty call. Now YOU'RE on speed-dial.

I am a big eater of ribeye and usually don't like the steak I get served anywhere beside the steak I make myself, but I usually give steak houses a try to see what they could come up with. When I was told but the server that the steak was only seasoned with salt, I knew I had to go for the peppercorn sauce.

Ordered a 16oz cut of ribeye mid-rare and only had to use one spoonful of the peppercorn sauce to get the desired effect. The steak was seared evenly and gave it a really good texture on the outside to go with the mid-rare meat on the inside. The fries were dull and the side veggies were surprisingly spot-on.

My GF that was dining with me ordered the 14oz (standard weight off the menu) ribeye but her meat was dryer even though she also ordered mid-rare but with a garlic crusting. Might be best to request your own size to that it is cut to order rather than them using a precut piece.

The wine selection seemed good but I am more of a beer drinker and the beer selection was REALLY lacking. This place could really use some good craft beer that pairs well with its steak rather than the same old tired lagers you find at the liquor store in a 24oz can.

I gave it a five purely based on the execution of the ribeye and I would go back if I have the money and don't want to cook my own steak.

    It was an ok restaurant.
The prices where a bit pricey and you can easily spend more than 30$ a person on just the meal! The only cheap meals there were 4 sandwiches and the steakburger was an ok choice, nothing to brag about. However the ribeye sandwich was pretty amazing, much better than the steakburger for only a $1 extra. Fries were pretty crappy, no flavor and just tasted like oven baked potato wedges from walgreens across the street!
The very formal service made me feel under dressed. The waiter also seemed very bland and plane. He did seem a little agitated that we ordered the sandwiches, the cheapest items on the menu! I didn't think the items where going to be so pricey.
The Restaurant felt tidy, but very small, but we sat in the front and not the back of the restaurant which was around the corner. I'd suggest going in the back if you dont want to watch football and being in a tiny room where it looks like guys with deep pockets come in to order a few glasses of wine.
If I had to come in again and make it a date, NO. However, I may come in for a pickup on there delicious sandwiches.

I feel kinda mean only giving three stars but I am a little bit of steakhouse snob and while it was overall a very decent meal experience, there were a few elements missing.  No WOW factor.

I wasn't expecting much but on a Friday night, I did not expect the hostess/waitress to have her back to the door and after a few awkward minutes of us just standing in the dreadfully silent front dining room, a gentleman came running over to greet us and she whipped around and said "you sure were quiet coming in..."  No, we weren't at all and we even said excuse me, twice...

On to the meal.   The seating system is rather awkward and the front room with the bar should be lively and welcoming and it was quiet and awkward.   I felt like I was intruding on a meal at a nursing home.   I could hear every word of every conversation.  A low, ambient show tune or even smooth jazz would have been a plus.   We were lead to the back room and placed at a table away from virtually everyone else, behind a wall, near a waterstained painting.   There were about twenty other tables but they stuck us in this odd, desolate corner.   FINE, I will engage my date in witty banter.  But then no one waited on us except the bus boy (who was awesome).  After yet another 15 minutes of awkward irritation and we were finally acknowledged by, guess who?  The back-to-the-door hostess.   Imagine how thrilled I was with this.

She brought out the sheet pan (yes, a sheet pan) with the saran wrapped meats and proceeded to give a rather weak and factually incorrect description of the meat, fumbling over variable facts like marbling and cuts and embellishing a tad on the ounces of the cuts.  After that, warm crusty bread appeared and all was forgiven until she made some stupid comment about it being "weird" that I didn't want my baked potato "loaded" that I preferred to put the stuff on myself according to my taste.   There was nothing weird about it, given I don't like scallions and was trying to control the amount of butter, bacon and sour cream that went on it for dietary reasons.

Steak was decent and reasonably priced.   I can't remember if the salad come with it or not but it was a nice crisp salad, a tasty, albeit way too "loaded" baked potato for my preference (come on, there were plenty of ramekins laying around).   The kick ass busser brought me another glass of wine, refilled our drinks, cleared and wrapped our food and offered a dessert menu and coffee.   Dingbat waitress never bothered to come back and take our order so we just asked the busser for our check.   I think she was busy standing with her back to the door.

I decided to skip the steak based on negative reviews and tried the burger that receives rave reviews.  It was delicious!  My boyfriend had the ribs which were very good and tender.

The waiter was a bit neglectful and seemed like he'd rather not be there.
Certainly not consistent with a steak house experience.

The name states "steak house" but the place is really just a bar, based on the atmosphere.  If you want an expensive steak and the ambiance to go with it, go somewhere else.  But, if you want some really good red meat in a very causal environment, this is your place.  It is all about managing expectations.

    Best Burger in Chicago. Period.

If you are looking for incredible:
    - ambiance
    - steak
    - service
    - live music

....this ain't it. They are trying, but the steaks are not fantastic and the decor is a funny mish-mash of things your grandfather, aunt, and 2nd cousin separately decided to hang on a wall. The music can be all over the map. And yet, it adds to the charm of the place.

Because you are really going there just for the best burger in Chicago. Hands down, this steak-ground burger is made to perfection (and has been rated one of the top burgers in Chicago multiple times). My roommate and I - both BIG foodies - agree that Select Cut outshines even the well-to-do establishments listed on the best burger award.

Ignore the steak. Ignore the decor. Dive into the burger....and come back for more. Select Cut is a GEM.

My bf and I split a you pick two which came with veggies and baked potato.  We picked the fliet mignon and NY steak strip.  The filet mignon was delicious.  The NY steak strip was a little tough but still tasty.

Before you order, the chef will actually bring out cuts of meat so you can actually select specific cuts.

The service was very great.  The server was very attentive always checking on us to see if we needed anything and kept our glasses full with water.

    Ok here's the bottom line:

If you want a great burger, this is a very good place.  In fact, it was written up as having the best burger one year.  I like the burgers and I order the burgers!

But, if you want a steak....you will be disappointed if you are looking for a Chicago steakhouse.  They play the act and it's pretty funny really...they bring out a large assortment of the types of cuts of beef you can order ( shouldn't you know this already!)...but it does not compare at all to what the competitors offer.   Period.

After I took my first bite of my burger, I gasped it was so good.

Ok, rewinding a bit. I've had the flu that won't go away for a week. I needed delivery, because I sure as hell wasn't cooking. I wanted a burger. I came to Yelp and typed in "burger delivery." As I skimmed the search results I *almost* went with another restaurant, but then I kept scrolling down and saw a talk thread on this very subject. I read. I read some more. Then I went to Select Cut's website and saw a picture of their burger and immediately picked up the phone.

Exactly 17 minutes after I placed my order, the food arrived. SEVENTEEN MINUTES. And I live close to Select Cut, but not THAT close. As I waited for the delivery man to make his way upstairs I started to worry. How in the hell could a burger cooked and delivered 17 minutes later possibly be any good? Hell, Jimmy John's isn't even that fast and that's cold lunch meat...

But then I got my food inside. First, it was perfectly wrapped - two bags, one with hot food (the burger in its own container and a bag of steak fries) and another bag with cold burger toppings. Oh hell yes. No soggy food in sight.

As I mentioned, I took that first bite and gasped it was so good. And this is the first meal in a week I've actually been able to taste! The burger was perfectly juicy and chew-tastic. The steak fries were the bee's knees. Perfectly cooked and slightly crispy and delicious.

Lately I'm one of those people who only eats half of whatever I order in an effort to watch calories, but I said "fuck calories" and INHALED that burger. And the fries. And every last bite was amazing. And every last calorie was worth it.

A follow up review.  We had a 7:00 p.m. reservation on Sunday evening.  We were really early, 6:30 p.m.  There were FIVE diners in the restaurant, one at the bar eating, two couples at 2 separate tables.  EVERY OTHER TABLE IN THE RESTAURANT WAS EMPTY AND SET.  We apologized for being early.  We were told that there would be a few minutes wait.  We waited, and waited.  One of the couples left.  We waited and waited.  A couple that came in behind us was seated.  We waited, and left.  Went down the street to Sapori Trattoria (2701 N Halsted, Chicago), which was packed, yet we we seated within a very few minutes and had a wonderful dinner and GREAT service.  Select Cut just fell off our radar.

My friend suggested we go here and started off by saying that it got panned on Yelp. So I had to take a look for myself, and true enough, EVERYONE was hating on the place.

To say I went into the place under a guise of apprehension is an understatement like no other. I was terrified.

But we were quickly seated, our waitress showed off the different cuts of meat, and took our order, all within 8 minutes. The basket of bread we got was warm, fresh, and smelled AMAZING, and the wine list was well-rounded and fairly priced.

And then the steaks came out.
My friend got a porterhouse, which smelled like heaven. My fillet was perfectly done - crispy on the outside, amazing on the inside, and tasted exactly the way I'd want a fillet to be cooked. The blue cheese "crust" was not so much a crust and moreso just some melty cheese, but I'm more about the flavor of the stuff than I am about the texture.

Anyway, a good dinner at an unassuming little place, a good price, and a sweet waitress who stayed out of our hair while we gorged on steak.

Woooooo baby, this place makes a damn good burger! We went on Friday night for the first time and I'm kicking myself that I haven't tried this place sooner. The staff was great. We were seated immediately and were brought out a basket of toasty warm french bread and some butter. Our server was really sweet and personable. The restaurant is pretty cozy and darkly lit, kind of romantic. The only problem I had with the restaruant itself was that we were seated maybe about 30 feet away from the women's restroom but I could still smell the air freshener that they use in there. Not exactly what you want to be smelling when you are trying to have a nice dinner.

Now onto the most important part....the food! I started with the french onion soup and my husband had the shrimp bisque. My soup was pretty good but maybe just a tad bit on the salty side. The shrimp bisque was wonderful. Creamy and had chunks of shrimp. Yum. We also ordered the sauteed mushrooms in a wine sauce. The mushrooms themselves were kind of  tasteless but the juice from the mushrooms and wine made an excellent dipping sauce for our warm bread. :)

We both ordered the burgers. Mine was cooked perfectly, medium rare and with a slice of american cheese. OMG, I was in heaven. I can't even describe what was going on inside my mouth when I had the first bite but it should be illegal. The fries were also really good which was suprising because normally I don't like cottage fries but these were nice and crunchy and had just the right amount of grease. Sinful.

I was actually pretty stuffed after dinner but my husband wanted dessert so after hearing the selections he had me decide between the tiramisu and the chocolate cake. I chose the tiramisu because I'm not really a chocolate love, in fact I'm not crazy about tiramisu but out of the two that is what I picked. Let me just say the dessert was awesome. Best tiramisu I have ever had. I don't know if they make it fresh or order it from somewhere else but it was divine.

Select Cut is an indulgence that I won't be partaking in too much, a girls gotta watch her figure, but when I feel like being a bit naughty Select Cut will definitely be one of the places I will call on.

This is one of my favourite spots for a burger in the city and it's really close to my place. I have never had anything else there but i've seen there selection of steaks and they look great. I usually go with the burger (medium rare) broccoli (as opposed to fries) and maybe an order of their stuffed mushrooms. You can't go wrong!

I'm a little torn. I've eaten in the restaurant and it has been good, so let's say this review is for the takeout.
The best part of my order was the bread. How sucky is that?
The shrimp was really bland like, absolutely no flavor.. The cream of potato soup had a weird flavor- I asked if there was any meat stock or anything in the soup, they said no, but I think there was. Actually, I'm pretty sure
I guess we'll have to wait and see if I get violently ill. Mags can't have red meat or pork, yo!!

I'm not trying to completely knock the place. Just make sure you dine in rather than take out. Dining in is definitely worth 4 stars. Takeout is worth 2, tops.

My first Eek! Me thinks not ..experience as a yelper.

Select Cut Steak house - I am not a fan.
    Service was laughable.
    Pea pods were overcooked.
Burger ordered medium came out well done.
Homemade house dressing must have been old. Anybody ever eat something with dairy or mayo that is old and upsets the tummy.?
Yes, entire meal lost 30 minutes after i arrived home.
Better burgers..better food ..much better service in the neighborhood.
I will not go back nor will I be commenting favorably if asked my opinion,

I haven't tried the burgers as of yet, but I've always been pleased with my steaks.  The rice pilaf was...well...plentiful.  I would probably go with the fries or the baked potato instead.

This small restaurant is an excellent choice for quality food without the high price.

No reservations are needed and there is no dress code (I walked in wearing jeans and was greeted warmly).

Street parking is difficult so be ready to shell out quarters galore for the pay box.

There is a bar by the entrance with a TV for you sports fans.  I caught the late afternoon Broncos-Pats game while eating.

I had the ribs as an appetizer.  They were tender and fell right off the bone.  Recommended.

French onion soup was smooth with no after taste.  Recommended.

1/2 lb cheeseburger with fries.  Cheeseburger is the best in the city.  Tasted fresh and was juicy.  Highly recommended.

Fries were overcooked and too hard.  Not recommended.

The service was very good.  Family owned restaurant and it showed in a good way.

My bill was 35 bucks (there were 2 of us with 2 drinks).  Great price.

    I will definitely go back.

Great cheeseburger with grilled onions and mushrooms.....simple but very good-and delivered in half the estimated time still hot and juicy.  The steak fries that came with it were nothing to write home about but Select Cut is still a definite go-to when I'm craving a burger and don't feel like leaving home (or work).

I also tried the tiramisu because I feel it my duty to try any tiramisu that comes my way, and it was not so hot-it needed a little more moisture in the form of espresso or rum imho, but honestly I wasn't exactly expecting top notch tiramisu from a steak house.  Try a burger, you'll be happy.

I am neither a red meat lover nor a Pork Rib lover unlike my husband. We always have a hard time looking for restaurants because he likes to have Ribs...All the time! As we were looking for a place to eat in Lakeview he spotted Select Cut, I immediately read the sign which said "STEAK HOUSE" and thought to myself "Oh no its a meat place...I am not going to enjoy this place I guess I'll eat a salad."

We entered the restaurant and I was already skeptical about it, I don't know I just get freaked out with steak places! You should of seen me when I was dragged..I mean invited to Brazzaz.

We had our 2 yr old daughter with us and they did not have a kid's menu....I was already giving my husband the evil look because not only was I going to have a mediocre meal but now my little girl had to eat whatever I ordered.....Boo! Minus one point...RIGHT?!.....WRONG!!!...Although they did not have a kids menu they immediately accommodated us by offering kid friendly foods. He said the cook can make something for your daughter; we selected to have the chicken tenders with French fries. PLUS ONE!

Now back to my selection...I ordered the CAJUN SHRIMP KABOBS WITH BAKED POTATOE instead of Rice and you know what my husband ordered...thats right a FULL SLAB OF RIBS. I figured his Ribs will be great but my shrimp will be alright....WRONG AGAIN! My CAJUN SHRIMP KABOBS was so delicious! It was well seasoned I even ate all the vegetables that came with it because they were also well seasoned. It came with mushrooms as well.. .and I was loving my dish. It was spectacular! My husbands Full Slab of Rib was also delicious. His only complain was not enough meat on Ribs.

All in all the service was outstanding, extremely friendly and very attentive. I am defiantly going back to this place and I am excited to try a different plate. I noticed Select Cut was voted one of Chicago's top 5 burgers by the Chicago Tribune. So I need to go back and try that out. My husband was rubbing it in after we left because I was so skeptical but instead I came out loving Select Cut. Bonus points for my husband as well for selecting a terrific restaurant!

I had an outstanding NY Strip there today for lunch/dinner - served with a delcious, fresh assortment of big carrot slices, pea pods, and brocolli - oh, dear - it was so right on the spot!

The garden salad with Blue Cheese dressing was perfect, too, if only  a bit too small.

My guest had the steak burger, which also got an A+ review.

The dining room was a bit chilly, but we were there in the "in between' hours of after lunch / before dinner - perhaps that's why it felt a little cool.

Good vibe - small, intimate dining room, expert service.

    Highly reccomended!

We were intending to go somewhere in the area after a pretty intense camera-shopping expedition. My friend and I were looking at places in the Zagat to find out what's the best and, more importantly, what's open.

For a Wednesday night, Select Cut was rather empty. But it was nice. It wasn't too frou-frou, and it wasn't low-rent. It offered the best of both worlds in terms of atmosphere. Here is a place you can speak in normal human tones without straining.

So, the food. At the table I had the pork chop friend had the T-bone. Both were very delicious. In fact, it's one of the few time's I've seen my buddy actually finish an entire plate. For me it's not unusual to finish my plate, but I had a good smile the whole time, too.

When we finished we were tempted by the petrified desserts on the tray and settled for the key lime and turtle cheesecake. They were quite good, but not necesarily befitting their price tag.

All in all:  great service and nice atmosphere. The price was a little steep -- $60 for two, no alcohol and two desserts -- but I'll be having the steak next time. Then I'll update my review.

I always have a good experience here.  Due to the fact it IS very low-key, the service is spectacular.  I think the steak is really good and their burgers are AMAZING.

Select Cut also does take-out and delivery which is good to note because a lot of bars in this area don't serve food.

First learned about this place years ago when I ordered a steak sandwich at Durkin's. For an entire year afterwards, my friends and I would reminisce about how that "bar" had such a great steak sandwich. Of course, later, we learned that it came from Select Cut.

One of the other great things about this restaurant is that they provide quick delivery - it may sound odd to get a steak dinner delivered, but when you live alone, and are lazy, it's quite convenient.

Plus, they have Sprecher's root beer.

Select Cut is responsible for at least 10 pounds of my current overweight ass.

After reading the yelp reviews, I expected this place to be kind of a dingy hole-in-the-wall with bad decor and an acceptance of people in sweatpants. But when we walked in, I was pleasantly surprised - maybe because I was expecting the worst.  I found the decor to be pretty cute and wine-cellar inspired. I could see how people would feel comfortable in jeans here, but there were others who were also dressed up.

Anyway, the food was mm mm good, considering how much you pay for it. My sister and I got the filet mignon and fried shrimp combo, and I was one happy camper. My cousin got the burger, which she says is one of the best she's had, and my veggie boyfriend originally ordered the salad when the waitress said they could whip him up a terriyaki-veggie concoction for him, which he said was very good.

The service was awesome and other than the muzak in the background, we didn't really have much to complain about. Cheap food, good prices, friendly and speedy service. What more do you need?

Select Cut won't replace special outings to David Burke's and the like, but when I have a need for steak, I know I have a place that won't leave a hole in my wallet. Yay!

I guess I should have tried the burgers, butttttttt I didn't instead I opted for the rib eye which was good, but the service sucked so bad in the beginning.  very rude and abrupt with us and treated us like we couldn't speak english when he was the one struggling.  Like dude, if you had a bad day or have something against us, please please please give your table to someone else.  The meal was ruined by our waiter.  Almost made my parents feel ashamed that they didn't speak english as well as the next person.

otherwise the steak was pretty good...nothing stellar, pretty good.

I'm a late bloomer what can I say? Only in the last year have I discovered a love for all things red meat and that goes for a nice, juicy steak to. I heard from a friend that Select Cuts has a great burger and e some even better steaks and since it's within walking distance of my house I figured I'd try it sooner or later. Well it was later than sooner, which I'm sure has to do with that whole late bloomer thing but either way I finally got there.

Overall my experience was pretty good. The service was a little slow and the side dishes were a little lacking but my steak was wonderful. I ordered a 8 oz fillet medium and it was nicely done. I also ordered the side of fried shrimp but they were slightly over cooked and had a little too much batter for me. Also the steak fries that came with my meal were soggy. I would have liked the choice for mashed potatoes but instead I got to choose from steak fries, a baked potato or rice. Boo! They also had an impressive wine list but no Riesling, which is what I really wanted so instead I opted for a vodka lemonade.

All and all I would go back but maybe they should think about making things ala cart and offering up some mashed tators to!

4 and a half stars.. Only reason behind the half is I hate when people tell you prices up front. I don't care what food costs until I'm interested in what you're offering. Yes, it is nice to know what you're getting for a certain price but I find it annoying...

Other than that, the burger/steak/every meat on the menu is always cooked to perfection. I love me some meat, and this is the place to get good beef if you are into that sort of thing. Five stars for the Key Lime pie too :)

My friends embarked on a 15 minute stroll to try out the renowned burgers at Select Cut steakhouse.

We went on a Sunday night at 9pm, and were seated immediately (it was quite empty).  It was extremely humid and muggy when we first sat down, but we asked if they could turn on the AC, and they complied!

We then proceeded to each order the 1/2 lb steak burger, ranging from medium to medium well.  The burgers were delicious!! So far, the best I've had in Chicago.  The meat to bun ratio was awesome.. The only minor complaint  we have is that the waiter did mess up one order - by making it medium well instead of medium.. Nonetheless, the burgers were good enough, and we were hungry enough from our stroll to devour it without complaint.

What would make this place 5 stars is if the burgers were a little more flavorful - maybe more marination or seasoning would do the trick.  But I'll definitely come back to try the steaks!

So, I had a really great burger here after a day at the beach with the girls. I love me a good, old-fashioned burger without all that fancy crap you find at "gourmet" burger joints.

That said, the atmosphere was weird. Really weird. It was stuck between casual and not. And the service could have been better. I think the staff was more worried about watching the football game than dealing with us. And I love football so I kind of understand, but come now.

Straight to the point: The steak burgers are really darn good (hence the 4 stars)! For a terrific burger at a really good price ($9), in a low-key, casual restaurant, Select Cut is a great option. But, for the best burger, I highly recommed the kobe burger and duck fat fries at Sweets and Savories!

As for steaks, well...refer to the paragraph above. I tried the NY Strip and in my opinion, the burgers are a far superior bang for the buck.

    The service is friendly.

Bottom line: my go to place for an excellent burger on a casual night out.

Discovering Select Cut was one of our finest accomplishments while in Chicago. I was thrown off guard upon walking in, thinking that the dining room looked like nothing special. But the prices on the menu were favorable, and their website mentioned a 15% discount for people coming from Blue Man Group, which we were, so we gave it a shot.

Bottom line: Get a steak. Whoever is in charge of the grill should have their PhD in steakology. While reading the menu, you are also presented with a tray of meats, showing different cuts, as well as the specials. I am still blown away that one of the specials was a 20oz Filet! To me, the word filet signifies a thin cut of something bigger, and when you approach the 1.5lb range, it should no longer be called a filet. Perhaps call it a brick of tenderloin, because that what it is.

I went with a 15oz filet, and got the blue cheese crust baked on. This dried out the exterior of the steak a little, but the flavor that it brought to the party was phenomenal. It wasn't just a drizzle of blue cheese dressing on top of the steak, it was chunks of it patted onto the steak and baked on to a crust.

The broccoli that came with the steaks was ginormous. It was no wonder that the soup of the day was cream of broccoli, with these giant trunks of it laying around. Speaking of soups, I went with the french onion, which was also delicious.

All in all, an excellent rendition of a classic old school steak house meal. Oh, and did I mention the deliver!

This is based on the burger, I've never set foot in this place, but they serve their food at Harrigan's next door and at Durkin's around the corner.

I had heard that the burgers had a reputation for being awesome.  I finally had the burger last week, on Thursday, at Durkin's.  Changed my life.  I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since.

I need to come back and try one of the mammoth steaks displayed to us when we got to Select Cut. The giant filet could feed me for days. Instead of going full on with red meat, I had a bbq chicken sandwich on pretzel bun (yay!). The sauce was nothing to speak of, but service was good and prices were decent.  Desserts looked pretty good too, so that's another "must" for next time.
