Review from Tanya J.
What a blast! I went to visit my relatives in Los Angeles over the Thanksgiving weekend and we were able to take advantage of a groupon for a Segway Tour which started at Santa Monica Beach. It was so worth it and tons of fun!
It was a gorgeous day and we were able to see several beaches by means of Segway. In terms of the company, Segway LA was fantastic!
I was a little nervous to be honest, having never done it before but the pre-tour instructional video and quick demo/practice session lead indoors first, helped me get a feel for the Segway which was quite natural and instinctive in just a few minutes.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone who would like to see LA's gorgeous beaches on a sunny day like we did! It was a blast and I'd do it again!Listed in: Los Angeles Fun!

Prices were decent, but customer service was great.
We were in and out riding within 15 minutes.
They really gave us the freedom to adventure Santa Monica on our own -- which is what we really wanted. -

Yeah, as good as it gets!
Fourth time on Segways, first time at "Segway LA" (which is really Santa Monica), and the best time yet!
Convinced we were seasoned cruisers on Segways, we were released onto the streets of Santa Monica for two hours, just the three of us, to whoop it up all along the bike path, pier and Venice, free of those silly rules and regulations, free to fly without a nervous guide to tsk-tsk us against having too much fun. We became classic LA neo-Easy Riders on toned-down Harleys taking it to the limit (at least as far as the governor would allow*). And we flew, Yelpers, pushing the envelope to stun tourists and locals alike with our adroit and stylish maneuvers between the bums, winos, hippies, yuppies, sand and surf. (buffs nails)
This is how it should always be.
*All Segways have a governor installed to keep the speed down. Dammit.Listed in: My Great Outdoors

I never walk out of a movie that I've paid to see just because of principle. This costs considerably more than a movie and we still asked if we could leave the 'tour' early - they wouldn't let us! This was the only time I haven't enjoyed myself at the beach. The tour just consisted of an all-out race from one end of the strand to the other. Don't get me wrong - fast is fun - but we couldn't talk to one another on account of the wind and I don't want to think what would have happened if someone stepped in front of one of the Segways. I would have demanded my money back if I hadn't had a Groupon. There are better Segway tours around and other, more fun things to do at the beach.
Maybe it was just me, but I cannot recommend this business. I still give it three stars, well, because segways are cool.Comment from Jason S. of Segway Los Angeles 8/2/2011

Love segway! You're just like riding on a bicycle without a pedal ^^,) So cool and fun! I feel like I want to do ride again or even buy myself one... Hahahahaha -.- (costs $5k+)
We were supposed to be on a tour but the person that is supposed to tour us "called in sick" LoL! But my girlfriend and I decided to go on even without the tour guide. In short, you're on your own (rental).
First, you have to watch the segway video then they'll teach you how to ride. But before they let you out, you have to be sure you feel comfortable and ready.
Thanks to David who taught us well how to use segway! I would recommend segway to anyone!!! ^^ -

Fun fun fun....for my bros bday we went here to test things out and find out for ourselves what all the fuss was about....great invention.....great way to get around....you should be able to ride this around town to do your errands by using the bike lane......more affordable than one of those small European cars being bought nowadays? It felt much like skiing the way you shift your weight....so kind of felt like a sport.....how cool is that.....
Btw in SM....people are filming and especially want to interview you riding one of these things......if you want to be a star....and that's a large number of people in LA.....get yourself on one.....not saying it's going to launch or accelerate your career or anything but do something out of the ordinary to get yourself noticed? lol...just have fun! -

I have to say, I completely agree with George and Barney in that Segways are awesome and it's a pretty good price for the amount of time, however, this review of the Segway Los Angeles location in Santa Monica is based purely on my experience.
Here's the deal. Monday afternoon I drive from the valley into Santa Monica, while there I stopped in to make a reservation at Segway- Santa Monica. Behold! A room filled with Segways- I was pretty excited. I figured since I was in the area I wanted to guarantee that I would have a pair to rent while strolling along the boardwalk for my boyfriend's birthday that upcoming weekend.
Saturday morning I checked http://weather.com- 77 degrees and sunny! A perfect day for segway-ing the beach! After a bite of birthday cake and a tall glass of milk to accompany it, the two of us hopped into the car and made our way down the coast. Walked in to Segway Santa Monica and was greeted by the guy who originally took my reservation, he was nice. He even remembered that I came in, which was kind of surprising. We were a little early so I reminded him that the reservation was for noon. The other guy behind the desk looked confused. A reservation? For two? Noon? Huh?
Apparently a reservation for 25 people was made sometime between Monday and Saturday and wouldn't have any available for us until an hour before closing. Fab. I was really frustrated at this point not only because I'd been longing to float above the crowds on Venice Beach for five days but also because we sat in traffic for 45 minutes just to get down to the store. So now what?
The other guy behind the counter said that because he'd put a damper on the birthday boy's day out he'd give us a "deal" if we wanted to come in sometime in the next 6 days. We could rent them for an hour and get one rental FREE! Needless to say I'd much rather have paid for both and been able to have the reservation I went out of my way to book 6 days in advance. I'm pretty disappointed and that is why I'm giving Segway Los Angeles- Santa Monica location only one star.
Methinks not.Listed in: Horror Stories

I completely agree with everyone on the fact that Segways are awesome and $75 is a pretty good price for two hours of cruising around Santa Monica...even if they are disallowed from the best Segway-riding areas, such as the 3rd Street Prominade.
This unsavory rating of the Segway Los Angeles location in Santa Monica is based purely on my experience with this location. I wish that another location would pop up around LA or they would get some new management into the Segway Los Angeles location in Santa Monica.
They are very good at TAKING RESERVATIONS...just not so good at HOLDING RESERVATIONS. As opposed to sharing the rather disappointing story of my experience with Segway Los Angeles in Santa Monica, I'd rather share this funny, yet extremely applicable scene from Seinfeld:
Agent: I'm sorry, we have no mid-size available at the moment.
Jerry: I don't understand, I made a reservation, do you have my reservation?
Agent: Yes, we do, unfortunately we ran out of cars.
Jerry: But the reservation keeps the car here. That's why you have the
reservation.
Agent: I know why we have reservations.
Jerry: I don't think you do. If you did, I'd have a car. See, you know how to
take the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation and
that's really the most important part of the reservation, the holding. Anybody can just take them.

I came down to Santa Monica to visit a friend for the weekend. When he initially suggested renting Segways, I scoffed at him (mainly because he's an idiot by birth). However, he did convince me to do it and it was FREAKIN' AWESOME!
It's $75 for two hours, which is a surprisingly long time. We rode up and down the beach bike path. It goes up to 12 MPH which feels pretty fast. It's a great way to scope out the beach scenery quickly. This is the best way to tour any city you're visiting. -

Segways!
You get plenty of attention, get to cruise along the beach feeling AWESOME, get a bit of an adrenaline rush, and feel super futuristic all at once.
They take walk ins, even on Saturdays, train you (it takes all of 5 minutes), ride out with you to make sure you make it down the hill to the beach safely, and are all around fantastic. -

Riding a Segway is probably the laziest thing I have ever done. Truly. And I've always associated Segways with Assholes - probably because jerk-ish police officers are the only people I've ever seen on them. So I was a bit reluctant to even try this out. But I did. And I'm glad - I can say I've done it.
The safety training video is a riot (but the guy who is the demonstrator in the video is really kinda sexy - they should have had him wear shorts).
Our in-house instructor was great. She was very patient, very kind, very calm - and she was perfectly OK with the fact that I kept repeating that I felt like an asshole for riding it. The guy who was helping us sign forms was a bit more controlling, but I figured they were playing good cop/bad cop.
All in all, these guys made it really easy. Yes, there are forms to complete, a safety video, and a short, required training class, but it really doesn't take much time or energy, and the experience itself was fun. (I still rather would have been riding a bike and sweating along with everyone else who was on the beachfront path - we were cheating). -

a buddy of mine came to visit the other weekend and since i'm too nice to say no to the guy (he has no other friends), i had to figure out what to do to entertain him for the weekend. one of my ideas was to rent one of those segways you can see zipping up and down the santa monica beachwalk towards venice.
man was that a great idea! $75 for two hours is TOTALLY worth trying at least once. we headed over to venice first, but my buddy's segway battery started draining fast. so we headed back to get one with a fresh battery.
so with the fresh battery in tow we rode around checking out the awesome houses nearby that my buddy will never be able to set foot in unless they hire him to do dishes and because... well. he's retarded.
i would totally recommend renting a segway to anyone. you gotta try it at least once! unless you're poor... like the douche that told his son "look, cheaters!" when we rode by. haters. pfft. -

We rented three Segways when one of our friends came to town, and it was a blast! The staff was super helpful, and carefully trained us on how to use the machines. It was very easy to learn, and within 15 minutes we were all riding like pros. Their base rental is two hours, which is the perfect amount of time to see all the sights along the beach.
This is a great way to spend an afternoon in Santa Monica. Highly recommended.
