Want to know more about Sedona?
The Sedona Heritage Museum is the old Jordan farm. Admission is just $3 per person.
The "dry farm" dates back to the 1870s, and it began to produce after water was brought into it in the 1930s. The orchard was productive into the 1970s. While apples were Sedona's primary cash crop, employment was enhanced by ranching and working on Hollywood movies. Today, tourism is the primary industry.
Another cash crop, not mentioned in Kathleen Bryant's popular coffee table book, was wine. While Prohibition killed the Sedona wine industry, it is making a comeback today. Merlot, cabernet, riesling and chardonnay are all being cultivated and bottled. Local vintners participating in the revival include: Alcantara Vineyards, Javelina Leap Vineyard & Winery, Oak Creek Vineyards & Winery, and Page Springs Vineyards & Cellars.
