7 reviews for Seaway Inn
We recently stayed here and enjoyed it. While the rooms are the small size they are bright (the entry is a sliding glass door) and clean.
Breakfast is included the pastries were very yummy. There is also a make your own belgian waffle machine which was a hit with the children and adults alike.
It's just up the street from the Boardwalk/beach.
The staff was more the generous with working with us and our check in/ check out time issues. They were why I bumped it from a 3star to a 4 star.
There is a pleasant surprise waiting for us each time we return to the Seaway Inn for our annual stay. The owners continue to improve the little inn and in the process give patrons reason after reason to return.
We've stayed here for the last seven years while my husband participates in the Central Coast Triathlon (formerly the Sentinel Triathlon). It was a standard cheap place when we first pulled up in their driveway and has since been transformed through remodels and upgrades.
On our latest stay we were surprised by the biggest remodel to date ---- the Seaway now has an intimate eating area just off their lobby offering an expanded free continental breakfast. Open and airy with a large screen TV and a fireplace, this breakfast room offers hotel guests a great gathering spot. My kids favorite thing in the room was the waffle machine that was easy enough for my 8-year-old to make her own.
Other items of note at the Seaway:
The place is now wired
It is also dog-friendly --- which is a nice sentiment but, the rest of Santa Cruz is so dog unfriendly, it isn't worth bringing your canine friend.
It is also a very convenient walk to the wharf as well as the Boardwalk.

this place was a good stay. it was a bit pricey in my mind, however they did have many extras that would quickly justify my giving it another star. the place was clean, bathroom had been recently remodeled, and the breakfast was great. kind of a bummer there were no closets as they used that space to add larger showers.
if i would have known i would have reserved a room upstairs and on the north wing. we would have had a great ocean view to wake up to in the morning. when we got there that was the first thing i asked for, the attendant told me they were totally booked. meanwhile the 'vacancy' sing was lit.
good hotel, but i think i'll look into another place next time. oh yeah, i paid over 200.00 for one a one night stay,.. yeah a bit steep.

King bed with ocean view only $89!?!? Hell yes!!! Thank you off season rates and slowing economy!
I don't even know where to begin about all the great things this hotel has to offer. The room we stayed in was so cute and clean I couldn't believe it. Like all the good things Kristine D's says in her review; they are still going strong with great hospitality. Top all those things off with comfy beds, clean smelling sheets, down comforters, fluffy pillows, newly updated bathrooms with dual shower heads, and you have yourself a GREAT place to stay.
We were allowed to check in early @ 1:30. The girl at the front desk was super friendly and welcoming. I told her that we were going to see a show at the Catalyst and we needed a number to a cab co. to get back to the hotel tonight. She gave me a number of a "trusted" cab co.
The hotel was nice and quiet at night. The next morning I walked down to the office picked up some muffins, fresh fruit, coffee, and oj from the continental breakfast and took them right back up stairs and had a nice little ocean view breakfast in bed.
I would definitely recommend this place to stay. Great location, unbelievable off season rates, and a safe well lit parking lot for you car.

I was here at the end of July for a two-night stay. They actually gave us a room separated from the main building, which was down the street, closer to the boardwalk, so that was good. Also, there were only about 3-4 rooms in the building we stayed in, so it didn't get too loud or anything.
The room was okay. The sheets seemed a little old, and a couple had holes in 'em but they looked clean, so oh well. The room also came with a kitchen, which was an amenity I didn't know we'd have.
For what you pay, especially during the peak season, I don't think this place does justice.. but it was REALLY close to the boardwalk, so I gave it an extra star.

A pretty nice newly renovated hotel located a couple blocks from the Boardwalk.
Amenities are limited (no hairdryer!) but it's clean and the bathrooms are pretty nice. They have a small selection of DVDs to rent, but I recommend you just bring your own. They also have free internet, but you need to set up a free account with the front desk.
Checkout is at noon.
If you're just looking for a place to sleep after a day at the Boardwalk, this place is fine.

This was my worst hotel experience ever! We were sandwiched in between 6 rooms filled with about twelve 20 year olds in each one. The caterwauling lasted until 4 in the morning. It was so loud, the windows were shaking - I'm not exaggerating. I am not adverse to kids having fun, but this was horrible. The hotel presents itself as a quiet, family place, so the last thing we were expecting was some MTV summer vacation hoedown next door to us. We called the manager 3 times to ask her to do something about it. The ineffectual hag eventually took her phone off the hook. We tried to find another room elsewhere, but by this time it was midnight and of course couldn't find anything. The only other option was a 2 hour drive home and we were both so exhausted it wouldn't have been safe. Finally, fed up at 3 a.m., I rang the front desk doorbell to ask if we could be moved to another room. She said she didn't have any, even though there was a huge "Vacancy" sign blinking over her head. At checkout, I told her we had a terrible stay because of the noise. Instead of offering a comp, or even an apology, she told us she didn't get any sleep either because of all the people complaining. Then she backpedaled and said we were the only ones who complained. (There were people waiting to check in at this point, and I suppose she didn't want them to know about the kind of service they were in for.) Then she basically said I was making the whole thing up. I told her I would tell everyone I knew about the horrendous experience we had. She replied that slander is against the law. Well, it can't be slander if it's true, can it? Anyway, consider yourself warned. There are plenty of other well-run establishments in Santa Cruz. Unfortunately, we wasted our money, and our few precious moments of vacation there. Don't do the same. The whole thing was inexcusable. If I could rate this -10 stars, I would
