Oakland, CA
Had a drink here with a friend, and was treated well from the moment we walked in. Sat at the bar and ordered drinks and some fries. Decent wine selection, plus a mixed drink menu that provided us with enough selection to create a hangover the next day.
Fries were absolutely delicious, and if we had been hungry, it would have been a great place to grab some food, it all looked fantastic!
Nice outdoor patio as well, and if you went during the day it would have an amazing view.
Oh, also, did I mention the bartender was a hottie? Just in case you were wondering :) -

Nice bartenders. Good food. Live entertainment. Great sunsets. Big patio. A little expensive. If you don't mind paying a price for all the good things, then you won't mind being here.
TIP: They use bacon in their Rockefeller. Bacon makes everything better. :) -

I came here for my birthday dinner and thought it was a nice place with decent food. We came at night so it was dark out, but I imagine during the day the views of the ocean would be amazing. The bread and salad were really delicious. The sirloin steak was okay, but wasn't a fan of the large portion of snow peas that came with it. I really loved the apple cobbler dessert!!! There are tons of booths facing out the windows too and they are very comfy!

Great view, average food, very high prices, horrible staff!
The management here needs HELP!

We thought we would give this place a try since we had a coupon. I understand that a restaurant like this can get away with charging slightly inflated prices, but it was unfortunate that the cheapest entrée was $22. The service was OK, but I'm not going to complain about that because we came in 30 minutes before closing and i understand they wanted to get out of there....I would too.
The food arrived looking like something from food network, very fancy presentation.
Unfortunately no taste to back that up.
the Trout was wrapped around crab in a cool presentation, but was over cooked.
My wife had the abalone and gnocchi...there really was almost no abalone in the thick dry crust, and the gnocchi was very dry and chewy. (and it cost $32!)
If the restaurant happens to see this review, let me tell you something that will help you a lot:
If you cook seafood, THE MOST important thing is that it is cooked just perfectly. No matter how experienced the chef is, the length of cooking time requires the most attention and care . FAR more important than
presentation, or anything.
Also, we paid about $75 for two entrees and a glass of wine...you'd think a salad or something would come with that?
The bread was good, however...and the view :) -

Just wanted to give an update that our server responded to my review.
I fully respect that he took the time to do that and while it doesn't change my review of that day, I do appreciate his effort. He certainly didn't have to even acknowledge what I wrote.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Carlsbad, CA
While staying at the hotel with my boyfriend for his birthday, we decided to dine at the hotel restaurant for a special bday dinner. I really wanted to like this place but it just wasn't the greatest experience.
The view is beautiful, we caught a beautiful sun set. Our waiter started off very attentive, friendly, and knowledable. My boyfriend ordered a beer and I ordered wine. He brought the beer fast and at that time we placed our app order which was the abalone. The app came out, still no wine. The app was okay, it just seemed a little bland and lacked a sauce. Mean while my wine is still not there so we flag our waiter down and he seems a little annoyed that we had to remind him about the wine.
At this point his attitude turns more into a forced friendliness, he was all talk and no action. We asked him about an herb in our app and he said he would find out and get back to us, he never came back until our entrees were served and he still didn't know, we just said nevermind. I was not impressed with my sea bass, it was bland and a bit over cooked. The saffron risotto was a sticky mess with a whole lot of saffron and no salt. I thought I was just being over critical because I'm a chef but I see the reviews and I am not alone.
My boyfriend seemed to be happy with his food but I took a couple of bites and I thought it was extremely bland and the shrimp was over cooked and lacking flavor. I didn't say anything to him about my opinion on the food because I did not want to ruin it for him. Although I can tell he was equally annoyed with our waiter, he asked twice for a beer refill and nothing. We finally just said the heck with it, lets get the check and bail.
If the customer service would have been better I might have given it another try. I know that sometimes restaurants have off days and they're not always consistent depending on who's on the line in the kitchen. But with mediocre food and crappy service, why bother.??Comment from Lauren M. of Seaventure Restaurant 3/16/2011

The view is fabulous from the restaurant, you can see the ocean and beach. Overall the hotel is very dated, something made in the early 80s. We sat at the bar and had some appetizers for dinner that included: Greek salad ($12 for 2 thin slivers of lettuce), abalone, scallops with mushroom salad, oysters Rockafeller. The food was tasty but expensive for the portion sizes.
The happy hour is Sunday-Thursday and is for discounted drinks only, no food. Sunday: brunch from 10-2. Monday small plate special: buy 2 get one free. Wednesday live music from 6-9pm. Thurs free corkage night. Friday-Saturday prime rib for $29. -

My husband an I tried this place out because we had a coupon from our Discovery Dining entertainment book. We were really excited because as a young married couple the chances we get to go out for a nice dinner and few and far between.
However, the whole experience was pretty disappointing. The food was so-so and way overpriced for what you actually get. The following night I made some frozen gnocchi from Trader Joes and that $3 bag was way better than the $30 we paid at the restaurant.
Unless you are staying in this hotel and are only looking for a convenient place to eat, I wouldn't recommend this place. -

I came to Pismo Beach this past weekend, to explore a little.
My fiance and I are getting married at the SeaVenture in April, so I wanted to check things out.
I was not disappointed. I was a little surprised that the hotel seems really small, and while I think some updates might be necessary before long, I thought everything was so quaint and classy.
I love the location and decided to eat a late lunch at the restaurant. I ordered the chicken basil pasta, on the recommendation of my server and it was very tastey. Service was awesome, the view was so great and relaxing and it was the perfect end to my time in Pismo for the day.
Kudos! I can't wait to have our wedding here! -

Wasn't what i was expecting. For being a restaurant with the word "sea" in, it lacks the seafood portion i was looking for. I wasn't impressed with the view and the food was just average. The staff rarely came by and took forever with our drink requests. I will probably not be a return customer as it was too high priced for the food and service we received.

Our first night at Pismo Beach and we wanted some seafood. A local winery suggested the Sea Venture. It was a good tip. Our fish was perfectly cooked and very fresh. The 360 degree view was a nice bonus.

Nachos from the 'small plates' menu. It was HUGE!!! Crispy chips loaded with cheese and black beans. Fabulous grilled steak on the top. Sour cream, avocado, lime and salsa completed this dish. Wow! On of the best nachos plate I've had - and believe me, I've had my share.
Even if you don't stay at this hotel - try this restaurant.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Pismo Beach, CA
We arrive around 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday night and notice only about 25% of the tables are occupied. We sit outside on the patio despite the fog and order a couple of drinks. After a short wait, the drinks arrive and we order our food. (3 appitizers and a main course) and request to our waiter that the food be brought at the same time. So far, so good!
After a while, our waiter brings two of the appitizers (The coconut shrimp and the rosemary roasted almonds, both of which were excellent) And then the waiting begins. Our first drink was gone a long time ago and our waiter is nowhere to be found. I then walk inside and order two more drinks from the bartender, who looks annoyed to be bothered. I then looked further down the bar and there was our waiter, text messaging on his phone.
Our waiter then brings our drinks and the rest of the food out and appologizes for forgetting about us. I tell him "no problem" and dig into the food. The pasta appitizer is very good although the size of the portion is not worth the $20 they charge. The salmon entree was also good, but at $28, an added mini-salad would be nice.
Now it's time to pay. I give our waiter my credit card and he says he'll be right back. After over a half hour goes by, I return to the now almost empty restaurant to find dude back on his cell phone! He looks up at me and starts the appologies all over. At this point, it's 9:10 and I just want to go home.
Overpriced with bad service?! I'll pass. -

Sea Venture is a good restaurant for enjoying a reasonably upscale restaurant while enjoying a slowly setting sun. The restaurant overlooks the beach and is just a hundred meters or so South of Pismo Pier. What a great view.
The restaurant is divided into a few different sections. There is a large racetrack shaped bar in the center, a fairly large rear seating area that's darkened a little for more intimate dinners, a main dining area, a walled off area with a large TV, and since it's on the top floor of the hotel, some outdoor seating as well with large cylindrical propane heaters (pretty useless in the wind).
The TV area and the outdoor seating serves Tapas while the main dining area serves dinner. I don't know what they have this discrepancy instead of just serving everything everywhere, but I guess the tapas designated areas are meant to be more casual.
I had the clam chowder (not as good as Splash, but good nevertheless) and the Cayucos Abalone. Normally the Cayucos Abalone is an appetizer, but they can convert it to an entre. What a dish! Just amazing. Abalone is one of those foods I haven't explored much and I wanted to try something that I don't really eat at home. They bread it lightly so the taste is subtle, but very enjoyable. My wife had the bacon wrapped port tenderloin, and I just had to try a taste. Wow. Great taste.
If you want an upscal'y restaurant with a great view, you can't beat Sea Venture in Pismo. The food is great (though a little pricey even for the good quality they offer), but it's definitely worth a stop on a great sunset evening.
Too bad I can't give three and a half stars....
It gets more than just a three only because the view is so amazing. -

Pretty disappointing all around. They appear to couch themselves as an upscale restaurant. The view is certainly nice, but the decor is reminiscent of a cheap condo. My wife and I were pretty psyched about the fixed price menu and each opted for the lobster. When we selected a vegetable, the waitress gave us a tsk tsk for not reading closely-- you both have to select the *same* vegetable. Huh?!
When they finally brought the food out it became clear what's going on. IT'S ACTUALLY ONE MEAL THAT YOU SPLIT BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE.
When I see a dish "for two", I assume it's ENOUGH for two. Not here. Half a lobster tail each. Half a veggie serving each. Ouch. -

My wife & I have eaten dinner at Seaventure restaurant four or five times in the last year-and-a-half. When we first went the place -- like the overall 2009 economy -- was pretty dead, even on a Saturday night.
However, the last couple of times Seaventure has been much livelier and the food and service -- which was always very good in our experience -- just continues to improve.
Our most recent visit on the just-past Saturday night was very enjoyable. The crab cake appetizers are a great choice for splitting. The Caesar salad is tasty and beautifully prepared and served. The waitress/servers always seem happy to split plates which really helps keep the price down.
Sea Venture is one of the few places we've found that offers abolone on the menu, and at an affordable price. I had the abolone entree (they also offer it as an appetizer) which was lightly breaded and fried. Very, very good. My wife had a prime rib, a special of the night, which was huge and excellent save the fact that au jus was AWOL.
To top the experience off Seaventure often offers coupons which provide $20 off one entree if you purchase another of equal or greater value. This is a great deal, esp. on a weekend night.
Another great deal are the five wine flights they offer: $10 each. The pourings are generous and the choices from local vineyards are reliably pleasing and educational.
As a few other reviewers have pointed out, this isn't a new facility and -- perhaps sadly for them -- it also not an undiscovered French Laundry. But IMHO Seaventure is a great, ocean-side spot that makes it easy to keep in mind everything special about Pismo Beach. -

We ate at the bar on a friday night two weeks ago and Everything was good! Good portion size and great views. Unfortunantly, we had the most rude bartender we've experienced in a long time. Arguing over tip money with the waiter in front of us was the least of it. Food 4 stars but service 1 star. Don't know if we would go back.:(

Don't let the decor or view fool you. This is NOT anywhere close to being an upscale restaurant. That said, it is not bad and I like the place. Just don't have inflated expectations. Food is average, service is OK - very friendly just not totally attentive if you know what I mean.
But the view is spectacular and this is why I return. Also some wonderful outside seating. My recommendation is to eat an early dinner somewhere else and come here for a nightcap and desert as the sun sets. -

We tried dinner here because we had a coupon for 50% off an entree when you buy one regular price entree that we received from Pismo Beach Winery. View was very nice, wait staff was courteous and quick. Food was on the bland side and slightly overpriced.

We stumbled into this place on a weekend trip down the Central Coast. The place has an awesome view. We didn't have dinner so can't vouch for the food but loved the ambiance and the good vibes. The servers Matt and can't remember the gal that came in later were great... Matt received a standing ovation when he went off shift... Sweet potato fries in chipotle dipping sauce were very tasty as well as the calamari. What made the place even more spectacular was the coolest people that we met out there. Some great gals from San Bernardino that livened up the crowd. I can't promise that your experience there will be the same but for the views and the vibe this is a cool place. Quick note: If it does end up being a party. ...The time to beat on the couples race to the beach and back is 1:28. Ask Matt for the rules...

I was there in January to celebrate my sisters 30th birthday. Though the food was average, it was definitely overpriced. The service however was among the worst I have ever received. We were a large party of 10, which can be challenging, but not impossible. She appeared to be functioning under the auspices that she would receive her 18% no matter if she lagged on bringing all the food out at once, didn't ask if we would like to more cocktails, coffees with dessert, or rushed us through our meal. We were there to celebrate and relax and enjoy the evening, but were pushed through the dinning experience. Given how dated the atmosphere is, the over priced food and beyond poor service I would strongly recommend spending your money elsewhere.

A decent, and slightly pricy seafood restaurant. The portions were quite small but rather good, and they had a nice wine list. A nice view of the ocean will enhance your dining experience. This was a recommendation by the hotel staff of the hotel that we stayed at, and was a very short walk away. It was a decent recommendation. This seems to be a nice friendly little beach town.

We were driving down from San Francisco and found this place by accident, what a find it turned out to be! The restaurant is on the 3rd floor of a hotel right on the beach. We sat down right before sunset and had the best meal and service we had on our trip.
We started of with scallops which were so fresh and cooked just right, then my wife had the halibut which had this great lemon vinaigrette and I had the rib eye which was so tender and flavorful. The banana split was a great way to end our meal. They had a great wine list with many wines from the local area and our waiter helped us decide by recommending a great pinot noir. The service was attentive without being intrusive, all in all we had a wonderful experience and when we are in the area again we will return. -

My wife and I stayed at the Sea Venture Resort. Right down the hall on the third floor is the restaurant. We decided to eat dinner here on our first night.
We were seated immediately when we arrived. You can't help but notice the incredible view of the beach and the water when you sit down. While admiring the view, my wife noticed a few spouts of water shooting into the air. Sure enough, there was a humpback whale going back and forth near the beach. We were treated to quite a show. This was the first time both of us has seen a whale in the wild.
After such a spectacular show, the food seemed secondary. I ordered the Jambalaya and my wife ordered clam chowder and Caesar salad. The food was average, but a bit pricey. You are definitely paying for the view. The service was very good. Overall, the view gets 5 stars and the food gets 3 stars. -

A regular Friday night stop for unwinding and reviewing the week and making plans for the weekend ahead, there is no better location then the large decks overlooking the sand! Craig's small plate menu prepared fresh and on demand at the large bar that is the centerpiece of the restaurant is diverse and scrumptious. We always order the oysters, and the fried calamari. At least two times a year the chefs mix up the small plate menu and give us something new to try and love -- most recently the sweet potato fries. Also amazing was their fixed price New Year's menu, and other special occasion offerings -- such as Valentine's Day. The staff are attentive, warm and remember your face and tastes. The menu is perhaps not the most affordable, but we go when we want a special treat for ourselves. It is our "local's getaway" when we want a great view, fantastic cocktails, yummy appetizers and if you need one, a night in a cozy boutique hotel!

Sea Venture was recommended by our hotel for best seafood in town. Although the ocean view was spectacular, the menu just did not have enough variety. My friend ordered the sea bass and I had the salmon. Only pan seared was offered. The food was good not great. We each had a $7 glass of wine. With tip we each spent $45. I would not go back. The experience felt like hotel food , not like a fine dining establishment.

I wanted to like this place... but it was just "meh." Maybe it was what I ordered, but everyone else at the table felt the same as me, so not sure. I ordered the Pan Roasted Chicken Breast. The chicken was too dry and overcooked for my taste. I tried some of my friend's blackened salmon and jambalaya, they weren't bad, but I just wasn't impressed for the price. I will say that our waitress was really nice and attentive.
