Situation: Coworker's spouse is dealing with serious medical problems. What should we do for them? What do they like? Well Pies, apparently.
We didn't want to get a pie from a grocery store and we didn't have time to make one ourselves. The choices around the east side were looking pretty lackluster, too. After another coworkers recommendation and a quick review of the Yelp page, we decided to go with Seattle Pie Company.
Honestly I was a little afraid when I read previous reviews of people placing orders and having them get lost. I was making the trek from Kirkland (practically Redmond) to Magnolia after work at 5 o'clock in the evening and most certainly did not want to show up without the correct pie ready.
An hour and a half later I pulled into SPC. The woman (I think the owner?) greeted me and when I told her I was picking up a pie, she already knew who I was and had the pie in the back and it was still warm. Phew!
In addition to picking up the pie we ordered, I decided to scoop up a slice of strawberry rhubarb (my fav!) to go. You know, to see what all the fuss was about!
Holy hell that pie is good. The bottom crust is really soft but the top crust-crumble-thing is crunchier which I thought made a perfect pair outside the delectable strawberry rhubarb mixture. Little did I know on my first bite that I hadn't even had the best part yet. The end crust was AMAZING. I'm tough when it comes to pies, and this one delivered for sure.
Later, I looked into more reviews of SPC only to find out what the pie crust is made out of. That freaks me out a little bit but damn, it tasted so good I might have to ignore it.
I wish it were less out of my way to get here -- actually who am I kidding? Pies that good, that close? That's just dangerous. -

Tried the fruit pies. They all tasted great I can taste the fruit, not just sugar added or jam like filling like most pies. The filling is perfect softness and the sweetness is just right with the crust and crumbs.
But I couldn't give higher stars. It's a dessert afterall, I feel that the look is very standard. I was not intrigued in buying and eating the pie unless I've heard the other people review.
I guess I am comparing it to the Ala Mode Pies (both look and taste awesome). -

Why is this place rated so highly? My friend and I HAD to try their pies so we got slices of 4 or 5 different ones and with the exception of a pretty good blueberry they were all meh to gross. Some of the pies had ok crust (the make it or break it part of a pie imo) but for a few, the crust couldn't stand up to the filling, resulting in a mouthful of mushy paste streaked through with lard to leave a wonderful waxy coating in the mouth.
One word: Nasty. Not even the most delicious filling can salvage that.
There is no way either one of us would ever return. -

I live in the neighborhood and had really high hopes for this place, as it looks like exactly the kind of kitschy neighborhood diner you'd love to treat yourself at on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Sadly, none of my hopes were borne out. At the recommendation of the staff I had the meatloaf sandwich and a slice of the Dutch Apple. The former was a simple slice of meatloaf between pieces of bread with a few onions as a halfhearted attempt at sprucing it up and an insipid, too-sweet ketchup sauce slathered liberally over the top.
But it was the pie that was truly disappointing. The crust was rather well done, to be fair, but the filling was cooked to to the point that all "apple" character was lost, replaced by a sad, over-sweetened fibrous mass. From reading the reviews here, apparently they do a lot better with cream- and custard-based pies, but, especially here in *Washington* of all places, I'd expect better.
Round that out with a simple order-at-the-counter-and-be-forgotten style of service and decor that's not nearly as charming on the inside (institutionally appointed tables, plastic baskets, etc) and, sad to say, this is not the brunch destination of my people. -

First and foremost, I would like to say that a cream pie does not mean a pie crust filled with whipped cream. We ordered two pies from SPC yesterday and were sorely disappointed by both. The banana cream had the consistency of whipped cream throughout (no custard, no fresh bananas, not even fresh banana flavor - translation: it tasted fake). Additionally, the "whipped cream" on top tasted and had the texture of Cool Whip. It left an oily, unpleasant texture in my mouth that was incredibly off-putting. The Desserted Island Pie was our second choice and it was mediocre - it did have an interesting balance of sweet and sour flavor. We also grabbed a slice of the cherry crumb, and it was the best of the three. As a chef, I had high hopes for this place, but sadly, we won't be back.

I've been once. Really liked the pie. Just pretty expensive for a slice.

I bought two pies here:
The Dutch Apple which was rubbery and somewhat cleansing when eaten in quantity - which, admittedly I did.
The Peanut Butter cream pie was a favorite with me AND my guests.
I do wish they would explore some other options on the way they make their crust. The crust methodology they use isn't as good as some other pies in Washington and certainly not as good as the Julian Pie Company out of Julian, California.
I WILL be back to try our the Key Lime Pie... which looked very good. -

Since I live so close by, I've been to this pie shop several times with friends and family members. So far, we've tried about a half dozen different pies and really wasn't wowed by any of them except for the absolutely delicious and creamy peanut butter pie. The fruit pies were all pretty mushy inside and the crusts and toppings were soggy. We've tried banana cream which was just okay but the chocolate cream was awful with a texture that was more like chocolate cream jello. I think the issue is that the pies aren't very fresh so in order to get a good pie, you need to do a special order or get lucky with the timing if you get slices. I found their pie crusts for sale at a local store and used it to make pies at home and the crusts came out wonderfully and super flaky--hence the freshness concern of their in-store pies by the slice.

ROTD brought me here! I love their COCONUT CREAM PIE!
After walking around Discovery Park with my friend, we felt the breakfast calorie have been burnt! I drove to Magnolia downtown and looked for Seattle Pie Company!
A little shop on the corner on 31st and McGraw in Magnolia, it didn't catch my eyes at first. However, the shop is full of characters from the owners, pies, decor, to the old/antique tools displayed. It's bright and wide in the shop.
My girlfriend and I ordered apple pie and strawberry pie with herbal tea. We really enjoyed the pie. It was so good! Alyssa, one of the owners came by cleaning up our table and greeted to us. I told her that I didn't know we had option of ice cream on top of our pies. She sent over a piece of Coconut Cream Pie for us :-) And, I immediately was in love with her Coconut Cream Pie! I love the crust, I love the cream, and I love the coconut flavor of the pie! I was tempted to buy a whole pie. However, My fridge didn't have space. I told myself right then, "I will be back"Listed in: My favorite Places

Oddly enough, they use pork lard in their crust. Ok, but to what end? Their crust is soggy and not very tasty. The filling is saccharine and gooey. It's like cafeteria pie.
The best pie I've had in Seattle comes from the Ballard street market on Saturdays. That shit is delicious, not too sweet, and has flaky crust. -

Not vegetarian. Pork lard in the crust. Still no messaging in store to indicate this. If you are Muslim, Jewish or a vegetarian/vegan or just think pigs are gross, guess you won't be having any of their pies.

The BEST pie in all Seattle and its little ol' Magnolia.
You must take the trek westward over several steep hills to reach this spot. Believe me, its worth the drive! Your nostrils are first to be rewarded with the lofty warmth of fresh pies sitting in the display window ready to be jumped upon.
They have every kinda pie available, although not always on hand: Pies do come in rotation. My highest praise goes to the strawberry rhubarb. The flavors came in a perfect not-overly sweet mix and crumble on top -Delicious!! There is also self serve tea n' coffee with all the accompaniments so you can return for more pie n' coffee!
The atmosphere is great here as well, what a better place to meet up or study at a pie place! The owner-manager gets an additional 5-stars here because she let my friend and I stay an additional 45 min talking after she closed! She never flinched and sweetly took our plates as we left.
Amazing place -worth the drive!!! -

Are you kidding me; this place is my kryptonite. My Achilles heel; the tire on my waist.... eff.
I love it. Strawberry Rhubarb; Apple Crumb... sing to me.
Blueberry- I have gotten twice... was not that impressed.
But the rest make all the bad things in your life disappear.
No longer seeing a therapist. Thank you Seattle Pie.
I love you. -

I found THE best place to go for pie.....SEATTLE PIE COMPANY. As the name implies, these guys specialize in one thing: tater tots. No McFly, it's PIE!!! Although, tater tots would also be a great food to specialize in, but that's another story.
This place isn't that easy to find, especially since it's up in a semi-residential area in beautiful Magnolia. Once you find it you'll realize the trip was well worth it.
They have a nice selection of homemade pies with the best crust/crumble I've ever tasted in the city. I was able to sample the apple pie and the dessert island pie, which has a variety of different berries. I don't know why but I opted to not get the scoop of ice cream on the side. Next time!
So, get the addy, find the place, order up a couple of different slices and enjoy the deliciousness of good ole pie. Now I'm drooling. -

I'm glad we were actually in the area to check out Seattle Pie. I think there may be something wrong w/ the address that Yelp gives for this place because it's actually closer to 31st than 33rd. Google Maps is more accurate.
Anyway! We stopped in and grabed a slice of sour cherry and chocolate creme to go. I like that they sell by the slice and whole pie.
It's very family run and homey in there.
slight warning: their parking lot is a bit of a pain. They share a lot w/ surrounding business and it's very narrow and can fill up easily. -

It truly pains me to give a bad review to a neighborhood place that I have tried so hard to like but, it's now unavoidable. Make no mistake, the pie is delicious. If you want to pop in for a slice, go right ahead. The trouble comes in their organization and customer service when you place orders. Four times I've ordered pies and three times they have either lost the order, accused me of not paying (which they required upon placing the order and I had a receipt to prove) or did not have the order ready for pick up and didn't bother to call to tell me that. I completely understand mistakes happen but, at no time have they ever offered any coupon or other apology for this. In fact, the last time there were at least three staffers around the register and none offered a solution to the fact that they did not have an order ready. Epic customer service fail.
I will now happily take my business to the Upper Crust bakery in Magnolia or A La Mode Pies, which delivers. -

All of the pie is great!!!! I've tried all of the pies and taken many people here. Haven't had a bad experience once. The meatloaf sandwich isn't bad either.

Good pie, broken customer service. As others noted in their Yelp reviews, hours are slim; use of "technology" (eg a computer or an organized list of orders) is non-existent, and the owners are not to be found.
We pre-ordered almost $40 worth of pies in advance in a long phone call which included being hung up on and taking our credit card info - which was charged. When we arrived, they had "never heard of our order".
The order verification system is a jumbled box of hand-written slips - these issues are commonplace. If only for my iPhone display of credit card charges, I would have driven to this place for nothing.
The pie is good, not great. We've ordered four different pies based on great magazine reviews but will go elsewhere to shoofly in the future. This place seems to have too much business to give a hoot.
Suggestion: Buy a $300 computer and type your orders into it, or a newfangled "database" to "store orders". -

This is great pie! Don't think about it, just try. Ohhh and they have pumpkin pie now in time for the season. I love this place.
Pluses:
-Served warm
-Got ice cream for an extra dollar (worth it)
-Had a entertainment book coupon
-Great because it's pie
-Nice spacious environment
-Open late
Blackberry notes:
Apple crumb
Peach Melba
I'll be here again and again.
Go eat,

Yes, you can get these pies at Met Market, but I think this place is worth the drive to Magnolia.
I wouldn't say the the ambience is particularly quaint, cute, cozy, or funky. But it's clean and inviting, has lots of windows, and, well, I just like it. It's low-key, family friendly and nice.
And you can get great pie here!
I've only been here in the evening or on weekends, and it's been pretty empty at those times. You can enjoy your pie at a table or on a couch they have tucked into a corner of the shop.
I love the tart fruit pies a la their strawberry rhubarb, or deserted island pie. I did try the coconut cream pie, but for that I think next time I'll stick to the Tom Douglas style triple coconut elsewhere in Seattle.
I really enjoy baking pies myself, but if I don't have time (or if it's just too hot in the summer) I know I can get my pie fix here. -
Review from Opal D.
Delicious pies, ala mode (didn't see it on the menu, have to just ask for it). Open space is perfect for meeting with a friend or by yourself (free wi-fi). You can pick up a whole pie to-go as well.
My friend got the peach and I got the desserted island (which had a variety of fruits) - both had a delicious crumble topping.
I will definitely come back to try all the flavours! They had a blueberry, strawberry rhubarb, apple, and even cream pies!
For those who prefer savory items, they also have quiche on the menu! -

My friends and I stopped in for some slices of pie after a round of golf at Interbay. This was our first time here, but our friends had been here before and loved both the meat, fruit, and cream pies.
We arrived with 45 minutes until closing time and they still had quite the selection of pies to chose from. We each ordered a slice and after they were reheated she delivered them to our table where we were already enjoying our coffee. The pies were so delicious! I highly recommend getting a pie with the "crumb" crust if you love the crumb cake style toppings (instead of the traditional flaky crust style).
I'd come back here for sure for more pie! The whole pie prices were very reasonable too! -

A great way to make birthdays easy - buy a pie (or two!) from Seattle Pie Company. We went with blueberry and apple/rubarb and they were both still warm when we picked up at noon on a Sat. If you have the time to drive up to Magnolia, it's certainly worth it for the fresheness. (And no, I didn't try to pass them off as homemade at the birthday party).
Extra nice service too! -

My restaurant crime fighting associate and I were joking in the car on our Sunday drive about how funny it would be if someone were to open a place called "Pie" and serve both savory/sweet pies and pizza. We started this banter because there's a place in Fremont that literally has signs up in a window that say nothing more than "Pie .. coming soon." This is both exciting and a bit frightening, because we don't know what it means. We figured it must be dessert pie since no one in their right mind is going to go head to head with Kylie's right in the center of the universe.
Imagine our surprise when we decided to head over to Magnolia for some big house worship and a little pie. The new Queen Anne apizza-like pizza joint is in the same micro-mini-mall as Seattle Pie. In spite of the identity crisis, you now can literally have your sweet pie, your savory pie, and your pizza pie all in the same location if you choose to. This is why you're fat, America. Ain't it grand?
We got four slices of pie, because this is America dammit. Plus, we wanted to make sure this place was worthy of a second visit. See, we come from Michigan originally, where there's this place called Achatz. Achatz is known far and wide for *a-ma-zing* pie. Trust me when I say the mid-west knows how to get you fat. So we have a fairly high standard to which all other pies in the country are held. My crime fighting partner was interested in the fruit pies, whilst I was focused (no, fixated) on the banana cream. I also had the peach crumble just to make sure things were on the up and up--let's be serious for a moment, if your pie shop can't even get the fruit pies right then what's the point?
Well, this is a four star review, so you have probably already guessed that we found the pies acceptable. I found the peach to be just the right amount of flavor and texture. Others have claimed it's too sweet, but keep in mind that Seattle Pie makes 2 (TWO) peach pies and the crumble probably is the sweeter of the two. It reminded me of peach cobbler (and cobbler, after all, is just a failed pie.)
The banana cream was passable, but I've had much better. The aforementioned Achatz is the gold standard. But, Emeril's banana cream (available at almost all of his restaurants) is also a thing of beauty. At the very least, you need to have real banana slices in there. Even the banana cream cheesecake from the God forsaken Cheesecake Factory comes with real banana slices. This pie could be improved at least 20% with actual fruit.
In the great pie versus cake debate I am Switzerland. I am also very happy to have multiple pie options in Seattle and I am trying to hit each one up to see which will win my personal people's choice award. Right now, Seattle Pie is leading--possibly because it's the only one I've been to as yet. -

Have ordered a few pies here -- always excellent, though yes, a bit expensive.
I absolutely recommend the crumb crust with any filling. Have had apple and a few berry combos. Seems like half the pies they sell have marion(sp?) berries in them. Once I asked the woman at the counter what a marion(sp?) berry is. She provided a cheery and detailed explanation. I have to admit that I zoned out pretty soon into it so suffice to say that: "marion(sp?) berries are non-poisonous berries that taste delicious in a crumb crust pie."
I also had a coffee here once. It was really good and I am picky about coffee. It's nice to drink out of a non-paper cup if you feel like skipping Starbucks/Tully's in Magnolia... -

Before my review, be careful of using the Yelp map & location information!! As of this writing, Yelp lists the location of Seattle Pie as 'Queen Anne' and the map puts it there too. The problem is...they're in Magnolia! So head West grasshopper; they're in Magnolia Village across from US Bank (3111 West McGraw).
Now that you can make it there, do I love their pie? I loove their pie. As they said in Pulp Fiction, "any time of day is a good time for pie" and this confirms it.
So far we're only one pie into their expansive menu (the Black Raspberry) but it was exactly what I wanted on my birthday. A beautiful, buttery crust and a perfect blend of sweet and tart blackberries and raspberries.
Any time can't come again soon enough! -

I want to rate this place. Really, I do! The problem is.. I can't reach them. I'm calling from work and their wireless service is blocking my call. Okay... God forbid someone should try to order dessert while at work...
Okay then, I try with my cell phone. Great! It's ringing! ... and ringing ... and ... oh. A dial tone. I guess they don't like using the phone! Okay... I'll just go to their web si... um... no web site.
Call me just too futuristic for my own good, but I'd really like to use some of this newfangled technology to contact the business before making the trip to Magnolia. I am looking for an amazing cherry pie for a Twin Peaks party. Most of what I've heard about this place is good enough to make me order a pie sight-unseen, but... no phone? What's that all about?
I hate to say it, but service starts with being open for freaking business! If I do ever do business with Seattle Pie, and that looks doubtful as of today, I will revise my review. For now, they get an "F" for effort... -

This is the best pie I have ever tasted. everything is good, nice local place with many options. we have been eating a whole pie every 2-3 days. get there early as the best pies get bought up fast. they also sell pieces by the slice so you need not get a whole pie every time.

Oh, you are right on the money with Seattle Pie Company. They bring a lovely variety of foods (yes, and pies!) to our lovely neighborhood. My family sure LOVES their swedish pancakes... I'm a big FAN of their egg salad sandwich on homemade bread. FABOULOUS. I've heard great remarks on the meatloaf sandwich also.
Also Patrick & Alyssa shine a bright light on all their friends (guests) of the restaurant. I'm expecting great things from them & am sure they will do wonderful here and beyond.

I would to begin by saying we have visited the Seattle Pie Company several times. The pie is good not great. They have a small but varied lunch menu with good food. When the store first opened everything was as expected. However in the last few months I believe the owners are spending less and less time in the restaurant. The last two times we have gone tree they have been out of chicken. That doesn't sound too terrible until you realize that 40% of the lunch choices are made with chicken.
So to summarize the pie is good and so us the lunch food, if you can get it.
We will not be returning. -

I want to start out by saying that the atmosphere and the service get 5 stars. They use the space very well and they have free Wi-fi.
The pie is good, but not as excellent as I had hoped. I had the peach/berry pie. The filling was very firm, not runny, which I LOVE. It was missing something though. Perhaps it wasn't sweet enough. The crumb topping tasted like burnt butter...not good. I couldn't tell if the crust was good because it was pretty much nonexistent. Shoofly has too much crust, which isn't good either, but better than not enough.
My boyfriend loved the Swedish pancakes. The best he'd ever had. But $4.50 for something that probably has one egg and some flour...really?
I will give it another try though...I have hopes that they will improve with age. They do have somthing good going. -

Even now, I hope that I am soon writing an addendum to this rating, increasing the number of stars. But based on my first and only experience with Seattle Pie Company, I have to go with 2 stars. After hearing wonderful things about this place, and craving pie for the last couple of days, I stopped tonight and bought a peach crumble. It looked beautiful; it had that homemade handcrafted look. The topping was good, but a little soggy--granted I bought the pie right before they closed at 7:00PM, so who knows how long it was sitting. The crust, too, was just okay. And while the pie was full of peaches, there was this gelatin quality to them, which was a disappointment. I was expecting nice, firm, sweet, full slices of peaches. But instead it was more like a peach pudding pie. This was quite a disappointment after a piece of apple pie from Shoofly earlier this week.
