Sound junkies, this is your place.
When a real concert is beyond your reach or budget, come listen to your Daft Punk favorites (or Pink Floyd) done far more justice than your headphones or car stereo could ever provide. The bass in the second half of the show vibrated my insides. This otherwise would just be a cheesy light show, but the sound-centric experience really kicks it up a notch.
Given that there aren't a ton of cool things for the under-21 crowd to do on a weekend night, those of legal drinking age can expect to likely be the old geezers in the room, not that it matters. Bring a pillow to sprawl out on the floor for an immersing full-view experience, or just kick back and relax in the theater seating.
Though this sort of event harkens back to the height of hallucinogenics and thus I am sure that more than a few attendees partake in something similar, I would warn the fact that the show is only approximately 1 hour may be sort of a buzz kill for your trip.
Protip: Don't worry about showing up very early; they don't open the gate until showtime and there seems to be plenty of space.
$8.50 on weekends, cheaper other days, with shows about every hour and a half.
Apparently they have a Michael Jackson show opening soon...
I went and saw the Daft Punk show. It was a good time, but I echo comments to bring something soft to lie on - the carpeted floor gets uncomfortable after a while.
I'm not sure what other places do laser shows, but this was a lot of fun. It's not the greatest thing ever, but for the price it's definitely enjoyable!
What can you do for $8 anymore? How about lie on a rock hard floor for an hour and stare at the ceiling? No? Would it change your mind if there were LASERS involved? Well, you're in luck! Laser Dark Side of the Moon was totally trippy and good, cheap fun. I think we were the only people in line not chemically impaired in some way (and also over the age of 19) but it was my husband's first show and it managed to blow his sober mind. We went on a Saturday at 9:30 and didn't have a problem with lines or long waits - it all went really smoothly. We even got a free song tacked on the end after a few people shouted "Encore!" - I think it was from Animals, maybe? Made me happy we saw Dark Side - I'm pretty sure these can be hit or miss but Dark Side was great. Big recommend!
This place only gets three stars for the shear comedy of the whole thing. Otherwise it would only get 1.5. As we waited in the giant line (which I noticed has already been mentioned) I couldn't help but wonder why so many people had pillows and blankets. Even more peculiar was why the people with blankets and pillows all seemed to be 18 under. Once inside, I finally understood. These are the kids who tell their parents they're headed to the science center for some after hours "learning" aka grope and makeout session. I was completely in awe.
The laser show was sweet. No complaints there. The candy was too expensive. And at $8 bucks, the laser show was a bit expensive also. I would love to do this in San Francisco and find out if the kids back here do the same shit or what?
i think this is pretty flippin amazing. who knew i would love lasers so much?
1. you can get your tickets online. you also get it at the science center earlier on self-checkout computer machines. my suggestion for the +21, get your tickets there early and then go to one of the walkable bars, then come back for the show.
2. i was warned of the 18 under crowd. but i think this is one of the few places in the city they can go. but i do think it depends on the show. i did see daft punk when Pink Floyd had more of an older/couple crowd.
3. i was warned people brought pillows and blankets.
but i didn't know that everyone brought pillows and blankets. that floor made my old 20-something back ache later on. one kid was freakin blowin up a mini mattress or something for his girlfriend and himself. he also had to get all up on our personal space as everyone is scramblin to get a spot on the floor. it felt like nap time in kindergarden.
4. i had the silly idea if i was going to listen to the magic of Daft Punk and see LASERS, there would be DANCIN'. i wanted to get my dancin' on. but there was no dancin', it was just a bunch of people on the floor and in the chairs, sitting and laying quietly to some of the greatest electro dance music. how seattle!
I was taken to laser Radiohead on Friday night and it there was a surprisingly large crowd waiting to buy tickets and waiting to get inside.
Tips:
Buy tickets first, then wait in line to actually get inside. I saw a huge line and would have just waited in it except going to the ticket box before getting in line was a mistake a lot of people made.
Go pee first. The show is, for the most part, totally dark and getting up to pee is something I do a lot. And after the show got out there was a BIG bathroom line, for the women's room only, as usual.
My friend brought us pillows, which made the whole lying on the floor thing feel pretty decent.
This may be kind of obvious, but sit as close to the center as possible. For some reason I thought it would be fine to lay down off to the side, but it really wasn't fine. Sitting close to the center would have been better.
It's eight bucks for a ticket, which is a price on par with movie tickets. That kind of sucks, but this was better than some movies I've seen in the theater.
Anyway, it was fun to listen to really loud music and watch moving lights after all. I'd do it again.
"Hey Geoff and Beth, let's go check out this Laser Subtle thing tonight. Yeah, they're actually doing a set for the upcoming release by this experimental hip-hop group that has an electric cello player as a full time member, and some of the strangest lyrics ever. But you already know who Subtle is, let's get going. Actually, how about we buy tickets through their handy online ticketing thingy just in case that speeds up the process or there are way more fans of Subtle than we thought.
"$5 per? not bad! oh, $3 service charge per.... 60%? Ouch, but convenience is convenience.
"Yo friends, I am in an especially responsible mood and despite going to the Seattle Center many many times over the past 15 years, I've never actually spent any time in the Pacific Science Center. I'll click around and try to get more exact directions. Oh, just a street address, should work - although the Seattle Center can be weird with stuff like that (try finding an online map of it.)
Drive drive drive.
"What's the deal with bad drivers? (etc.)
*Geoff claims the Funhouse has the dirtiest bathrooms he's ever seen.*
Park park park.
"This is going to be so great, last time I went to a laser show was 15 years ago when I was a junior in high school!
"This building? No, but the door says it's in building three, no other directions... how about north? Crap, the thing said we won't get in if we're late, and to get there a half hour early to pick up will call tickets, we're cutting it reallly close.
"must be that line, oh cool, a will call ATMy thing, gimme my tickets!
"line's not moving, we're still outside and this thing was supposed to start 5 minutes ago... Wait here team, I'll go see what I can find out!
the ticketing window is at the exit, behind a line of that barricade tape like the have at the bank. people are crashing the wrong way into the exit turnstyles trying to get to the ticket dude, while he blankly stares until they finally figure out they have to duck under the barricade tape to get to the ticket window. I overhear "is this where we get tickets for Laser Subtle?"
-"yes"
"ok, cuz the little daysheet sign says Laser Floyd"
-"yeah, the sign is wrong"
"has it already started?"
-"no, not til like 9:45"
"oh, the sign says it starts at 9:15"
-"yeah, that's actually when we start letting you in from outside"
"have you told the people in line that it isn't Laser Floyd?"
-"no"
helpful anonymous guy yells (standing 3 feet from Ticket Wizard) "there's no Laser Floyd show"
Cue several very bummed/stoned Guitar Center and/or D&D gamers leaving the line. People who had already purchased tickets, most likely from Ticket Wizard guy.
Awesome music, cheezy laser stuff, but it's not like anyone was expecting a spiritual experience (no weed smokers in our crew.)
*seriously? text messaging in a completely dark planetarium thing? kids these days. to the one that got hit in the back of the head with a quarter - that was me*
Came here for Dark Side of the Moon, and gotta say it was pretty flipping cool. And that totally sober - just imagine the "enhanced version"...
The only downside is when the lights come on, you realize you're the people over 18 who aren't dressed up like characters from "The Matrix". Although, that's probably a good thing.
This is awesome if you live here and terrible if you don't. By that I mean I used to live here and went to this quite often. Loved it. Then I moved away and I can't find anything like it around here and it really sucks.
I don't remember which shows I've seen but I saw several and each was amazing. There were some audio issues during one of my visits and I emailed the crew afterward. I asked if they had a wire crossed or a blown speaker and come to find out, they had both. I received four free tickets in the mail which was super cool. I hadn't complained to get anything free... was just curious if they were having problems or if it was my ears. My next visit found them to have fixed the problems and it sounded wonderful again.
If you are in the area and like music you gotta check this out. Doesn't really matter if you like the band that the show is about... the visuals alone are awesome, but it helps if you like Pink Floyd because that's what the majority of the shows are. Unfortunately I never got to catch the Depeche Mode one. Seemed like they only showed it for one week.
Came by here a few weeks ago with my kid and saw the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon. Looked & sounded cool. They were a little slow letting us in tho.
The Seattle Laser Dome is the coolest!
This is the only place that I know of where you get to listen to awesome music while watching a trippy laser light show! I always make sure I'm at least a little buzzed before going. It brings the enjoyment factor way up!
They have rotating schedules and a few acts that remain constant. They always have Laser Floyd, Laser The Wall, Laser Beatles and Laser Zeppelin. Specialty shows I have seen are Sublime, Muse, Tool, Radiohead and Queen.
The best place to be for this show is on the floor so you can lay down and watch the ceiling without straining your neck. Always remember to buy your tickets and then get in line. Many people don't do this and end up getting in last.
They also offer concessions for two bucks (candy and soda).
I was visiting Seattle for a week and a half and my cousin insisted on taking me to the Daft Punk laser show. A few nights later we decided to see the dark side of the moon and Daft Punk again. I felt like a little kid, the whole time I was thinking, how did they do this? It was entertaining and totally worth the $8. Wish we had a dome in California.
I've been to Laser Floyd and Laser Schism (Tool) and both were excellent. These shows offer a great alternative to a boring night out with a friend and are worth every penny. If you lie on the floor you'll get the full effect here. Check them out, you don't even really have to be a fan to enjoy these shows!
You haven't spaced out until you've seen Laser Floyd: The Wall. Pink Floyd and lasers. What else can you say? Lie down on the floor for the full effect, but not if you're feeling nauseous. If for some strange reason you're not into Pink Floyd, there are other shows, like the Beatles and Led Zeppelin but you'll have to experience them for yourself because after "seeing" The Wall, nothing else matters to me.
Incredible! I think the Queen show has the best music and the Beatles show has the best laser graphics. I only went to the half-shows on the weekend and want to see the hour shows now. You can't beat the price with a baseball bat. I only paid a dollar for each show (during the day.)
