Pretty amazing that this place has persisted as long as it has. One of Seattle's handful of genuine historical landmarks that aren't from frontier days. Better yet, it's still functioning as a relevant entity to this day.
Visiting the fountain, the needle, the food court, and the EMP/SFM easily make for a full day if you have out of town company--or at least the better part of a day.
Most of the appeal of SC revolves around special events here--Bumbershoot, Folklife, opera or ballet performances, productions at Intiman or the Rep, tons of smaller events are always happening too. That's what really makes it a destination. But it's a pretty and well-run place even if there's nothing else going on. Sports teams are gone now, which is probably good for the parking situation, though bad for business.
If you're visiting from out of town, you're definitely not stuck eating at the food court. There are good places to eat at every price level within a few blocks. Google up Kerry Park and combine that with a visit here for an iconic Seattle skyline photograph to go with the other shots from your trip.
Hey I'm a tourist! According to all these other reviews, I should love the Seattle Center. Well, they're right.
Pretty much every major city has a museum campus like the Seattle Center. It is nice to see a little difference though in that the Seattle Center has an amusement and the Space Needle as well. There really is something for everyone. The kids have the carnival rides and games and the children's theatre. Teenagers have the Experience Music Project and the Science Fiction Museum. Adults have the Space Needle and Key Arena, and everyone can enjoy the Pacific Science Museum. I even had fun just walking around and seeing everything.
The Seattle Center is touristy, but I love it to pieces. I've been so so many events here and I've always had a blast.
The Space Needle is great. Only been up it once, but it's still an impressive sight in the sky even after all this time.
The Pacific Science Center was a lot of fun when I was a kid. Now I like to go to the laser dome to see laser shows!
The fountain is a lot of fun in the summer. I've rarely run through the water, but sitting by the fountain on a sunny day is definitely a great people watching experience.
The Children's Museum was one of my favorite places to go as a child and I kind of wish I could still go there now. Too bad I'm too big for most of the fun stuff!
All the random festivals they have here are great. Bumbershoot is a ripoff, but Folklife is a blast and I love to wander the Center and check out the booths and the music acts.
One of my favorite things to do is visit the Center House during the holidays. They have the holiday model train display and it's a lot of fun. My brother and dad are volunteers and help run the train every year. It's fun to go down with them and (almost) be a part of the magic. From there my mom and I always take the monorail downtown to do Christmas shopping. The monorail is kind of dorky, but I like it. Especially when we make that holiday shopping trek to downtown.
Anyway, I love the Seattle Center. It could use some updates here and there, but...it's a classic!

Living near the Center is awesome. That being said, I wish some of the jerkoff tourists would die already. But whatever, people suck everywhere so I'm not going to hold that against Seattle Center.
It is super touristy but I dislike people who dislike touristy things just because they are touristy even more than I dislike touristy things. Did that even make sense? (Wow, I'm a little rambunctious today...)
During the summer there are so many fun free events here. From movies to concerts to festivals there are tons of fun things to check out. There is also Bumbershoot (which is expensive if you don't plan ahead) which is still really enjoyable if you check out the small stages (read: less commercial acts).
The center also boasts McCaw Hall (performance hall for the Seattle Opera and Pacific Northwest Ballet), SIFF cinema, Intiman Theater, Seattle Repertory Theater, the Pacific Science Center, the EMP and the Space Needle. What is there to not love?
Tourist-tastic. Nothing more, nothing less.
This place earns the lowest rating that I can give, again since I can't give zeros.
The venue location are old and outdated and the place is full of tourist.
The water fountain is ok though, but it doesn't change my mind of the place.
There's a lot better places to visit and things to do in Seattle than this dump of an area.

Seattle Center is by far the best place to really have a great time in Seattle! Great place to take the kids and show them a good time.
Had a group of 5, checked out the amusement park which was very fun. Kind of took me back to childhood. ;) We got our picture drawn up, rode the rides, played the games, bought some balloon swords and had a sword fight! Did a little bit of shopping and ran through the fountains.
So glad to live in the beautiful northwest!

Awe! I miss living in the great Pacific Northwest. I left a piece of my heart in Seattle... *reminiscing on a great date night*
After a romantic dinner up in the sky... I remember taking long strolls around this center in the dark, dead cold of winter, Christmas lighting lined trees, fully dressed to the nines, in high heel boots, a hot Starbucks beverage in my hand, and my hot lover's hand in the other. *The good old days*
The Space needle was a tourist attraction indeed, food was not great, over priced, paying for the ambiance of the revolving restaurant. It sure was worth the time going up and down, on top, scenic, and breathe taking.
EMP and the Science museum was, well... amusing. Lots of exploring in your wildest imagination.
Ride the Duck was entertaining... and embarrassing at the same time.
Monorail to downtown was convenient... until it collided.
Fun Forest a carnival like playground for children and adults alike... arcade and rides galore.
Pacific Science Center, including the IMAX theater was a great place to sneak a little nookie and little something.
Oh and last but not least... Ice Skating and a Carousel by the International Fountain... where the magic happened... I pushed my hot lover in the fountain so he can cool off :). What a night to remember :). *sigh*

I just spent two days down at the Center and Christmas time is when this space really shines! If you have kids, you absolutely have to take them down! The price is right at FREE, but it's more then that! The people watching is spectacular this time of year!
I have an insider that just gave me the 411 on everything that's going down at the Center, and you're about to be wowed! Everything is changing! Growing, expanding, and moving toward a stronger emphasis on becoming a true cultural and art centerpiece for the city! I can't tell you too much without outing my source, but keep your eyes peeled! When I get back to Seattle New Years 2010 it's going to be a whole new ball game!

I took the famous monorail. I could have gone straight to the Seattle Center but I wanted to see what's so special about the monorail. I arrive the station, I went to the platform, it came, then went. I wasn't impressed. It's old. It's boring. To me, It's just, a people mover.
I was slightly underwhelmed when I went to Seattle Center. I went there originally to visit the Space Needle. After I topped the famous landmark, I went to see the rest of the Center. I was dead! Keep in mind it was during mid April during the week day that I went there. It probably would have be full of people during summer time...
I wanted to go to the experience music museum, but I wasn't sure if I, a deaf person, should actually pay $12 (student discount) for a ticket. I have hearing aids, but I didn't grew up with music, so I decided to save that for another time.
There's a Sci-Fi museum, which probably would have served me better, but I do have a life... so that doesn't really interest me.
I tried to find the International Fountain, but I couldn't find it, so boo.
However, I kinda enjoyed the Center. If it was warmer and filled with people and all the rides are open, Maybe it would have received a 5 Star.
Until next time...

It's truly a shame that this is what's known as our "city center". C'mon Seattle, step your game… Read more »
A classic Seattle landmark.
I still remember the first time I strolled around Seattle Center. It was late one night in the Fall and we had just moved to town and were staying just a few blocks away. We walked to the fountain and just enjoyed how peaceful it actually felt. And then we got to see the Seattle Thunderbirds hockey players walking towards their buses and we were set on staying.
I don't come here as often as I would like, usually because of tourists. I tend to get violent and insulting around them. So I wait until the off months and find fun stuff to do when the rains settle in.
I love Winterfest. It's one of my favorite things that the center does. I also am thankful to have the Children's Museum to use on rainy days. And I did love going to hockey games, too bad Seattle can't keep a team.
I've never been here when the fair rides are on and it's never been warm enough to play in the fountain when I visit. And for some reason. I like it that way.

I'd never been to Seattle Center before this last weekend and I went down to check out the Bite. I stayed a little on Sunday and wandered around, here are some impressions: 1) Anyone who gets on these rides is utterly nuts - $5 each to ride a lame rollercoaster with a picture of toxic waste on a barrel, WTF? 2) I really like the fountain, that's one of the stars 3) The other star is location and potential, this place could be awesome. Unfortunately most of the "attractions"(repellants?) are hopeless antiquated and overpriced.
Ahhh the cheesy goodness of the Seattle Center!
I heart the SC b/c a) it's kinda cool to walk around at, b) it's a great place for photoshoots, c) they have rehearsal space, and d) they've hired my fire troupe, Womanipura, to do a fire show there 3 years in a row.
Not to mention it's also easily accessible by public transportation. How great is that?
Seattle Center holds a special place in my heart of hearts.

Whats not to love about Seattle Center???
I have very fond memories of my mom and dad waking up me, my sister and brother at night and on a school night surprising us with a trip here. I loved every minute of it. Riding the rides at night is nice.
Seattle Center also is the place for summer attractions such as The Bite Of Seattle. You get alot of different food choices, face painting for the kiddies, indoors at the Center House alot of food choices such as Orange Julius, Pizza Haven and Frankfurter among other food choices... Also you have the Chocolate selection, freshly made fudge you can watch or freshly made taffy.
Outdoors you have a HUGE sprinkler for the hot summer days your children can run in and play... This would be fun for Kids Day
Seattle Center is also the home for the Torchlight Parade. The parade starts here and the competitions for the drill teams is located in the Center House...
Seattle Center is located across the street from McDonald's and ad joint to the Key Arena

After coming down from the Space Needle, we wandered around the rest of Seattle Center a bit. There was some special Brazilian theme going on so people were in stands selling jewelry & handmade purses, there were people dancing the traditional Brazilian dance, and others scooping out platefuls of Brazilian food.
Everything else was like a fair. They had mini roller coasters, and games where you shoot darts or make things into a basket for prizes. There were also popcorn, cotton candy, and hot dog stands galore. We ventured towards some other attractions here but they all charged an admission fee. A nice place to bring your kids and sit out in the lawn to enjoy the live entertainment, but other than that I didn't find anything that exciting around here.

This review is that of a fairly new Seattlite (if you can even call me that living on the Eastside). I'm not sure if being new should give this review more weight or less, but keep in mind I'm viewing through the glasses of someone who did not grow up with such a free, eclectic and artistic culture.
Obviously, the Seattle Center is one of the first places I went to when I visited here (before I moved). How could I visit Seattle and not go to the Space Needle?
But, I didn't realize all the other things that sprang up around the Space Needle to make it a fun and interesting place to hang out. It's not the needle, or the food court, or the shops, or the attractions, or Key Arena that make this place so special to hang out at. It's the people, the atmosphere, the ambiance.
There's just a special feel around the Seattle Center that makes you truly feel the culture of Seattle. You feel immersed in it because of the sights, sounds and people. There is nothing like hanging out by the fountain, reading a book while some guy rides up on his bike with a guitar strapped over his shoulder or some jugglers practice on the lawn over to the side. You don't get this kind of feeling outside of the Pacific North West.
It's peaceful and relaxing, yet at the same time fun and buzzing with excitement. It's a feeling that one has to experience to understand. Can one truly understand that feeling if they haven't lived in other places that didn't have that culture and mindset? I'm not sure.
The Seattle Center is one of the places one can go and just "hang" and soak in what it means to be a Seattlite. I imagine just the ambiance of it has inspired many local artists (especially since you will see so many of them there).
Next time you have nothing to do for an afternoon, pop over for a sit by the fountain with a good book. Watch the kids play in the fountain. Enjoy the variety of smells wafting from the Center house Food court area. And when you do, thank yourself for being in the best city in the United States.

What a great spot for any breed. There's always something to do or going on that will spark an interest. GREAT for kids, whether your broke or have wads of cash.
-Water fountain to play in for those hot summer days
-Amusement Park & arcade building with laser tag
-The Space Needle
-Pacific Science Center
-EMP (Experience Music Project)
-SFM (Science Fiction Museum)
-Bums playing music for change
-Monorail
-Center House with plenty of food & treats
-Key Arena
-Mural Amphiteatre
And all sorts of little things along the way....
You also have seasonal events going on all of the time, such as Folklife Festival, Beerfest, Movies at the Mural.....best is to keep checking their website for all the haps....
Perfect for the tourists or for Seattlites to just hang out for the day.

After I saw the Key Arena, I knew immediately why the Sonics left... the whole Seattle Center looks really outdated.
I'm sure it was probably fun and banging in the 80s, but there is nothing here that appeals to me that makes me want to spend my tourist dollars. Everything just looks old and rundown. The most entertaining part was watching the kids go crazy and run around in the giant fountain, but that was about it.

I just love that so many of Seattle's attractions and theaters are all here in one place. I have barely even begun exploring all of them, and I haven't even been to a festival here yet. Unfortunately, my experience of Seattle Center thus far has only consisted of a walk through the park and visits to
the Space Needle (http://www.yelp.com/bi...),
Experience Music Project (http://www.yelp.com/bi...),
and Science Fiction Museum (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).
Therefore, I will be back...

If you have children or have children with you (e.g. nephews, sisters, etc.), Seattle Center is the perfect place to take them. There is so much for them to do.
I don't recommend it for older and old people or especially those people who don't like walking. Also, it's bad for closed-minded people (many of you - especially the old ones - say that you aren't when you actually are) because there is a lot of interesting stuff.
That said (or written), if you are playing Seattle tourist, you must come here!

I hav elived in Seattle over 20 years. I hav eowrked here many times. Ilov eit. ,many events, many attractions.
Just coem down some day and sit by the fountain.
The food court has soemthing for everyone.. from candy to nuts to Starbucks to pizza and tacos. Ok Ok its a bit fast food. But you are a block from lower Queen Anne's wonderful restaurants.
Love love
The Fun Forest is creepy and has strange height requirements that make it difficult for adults and kids to ride the same things. There is no beer garden--tank up in the Center House.
Seattle Center is dated, as other reviewers have noted. It also has some of the best coffee in Seattle (yes, I said it--and I mean it) at the beignet stand. Kids love getting a wristband and going crazy on the rides. There's indoor stuff for little kids on rainy days. The monorail is cool, if silly. The fountain is awesome.
You can have a blast here for cheap--give it a shot.
I don't really go to the festivals 'cos it makes me sad to see my precious Center get trashed, but I think the Seattle Center really has merit for daily boredom-busting qualities, especially in the summer.
Hands down it is the best place in town to:
Smoke a J and feed the squirrels
Drink a beer while playing cards around a fountain
Eat pot brownies and go see the Nutcracker
Pack a picnic and nap in the sun
People-watch while doing any of the above
I've graduated from college at the Seattle Center, I've got it on at the Seattle Center, I've laughed and cried at the Seattle Center, I've thrown up at the Seattle Center, I've gotten seriously injured in a bike accident (my own dumb fault) at the Seattle Center ... I can't even say all these things about my own home.
Hang out there long enough and you too will have your own laundry list of Center memories.
Kudos to their totally lazy security crew, by the way. Thanks for not hassling me at all for the plethora of illegal-but-harmless activities I've conducted there over the years, guys! I owe ya' one!

Other than all the tourists, this place is pretty rad. I enjoyed spending the day here when I was younger. The Space needle was pretty decent. I loved the Science museum, and the Emp was ok. Nothing that I couldn't live without. I'd go back. I love how convenient the monorail is! When I live here, I will be back pretty often, until I get sick of it that is!
C'mon...you've gotta give the Seattle Center credit where it deserves!
An arena?
A venue for art, concerts and theater?
Museums?
Carnival type rides?
Lot's of leisure space to squat and watch stuff?
Festivals?
No fee to walk in?
Huge fountain to play in?
What is there not to appreciate about this diamond in the rough? Sure it's older, a bit confusing to get around and through, maybe even pricey in some aspects but c'mon people! You've got so many options to suite a variety of interests! I say plan to come when there is something going on that you'd like to check out. Come early or stay late but know that not only will you get the chance to see or try something new but will also be able (if you give yourself enough time), to walk around with ease and enjoy the simple things in life. It's a good place and Seattle is lucky to have it.

Lots of visits here when I lived in the area. Never made it up the Space Needle as it just didn't seem worth the money but everything else here is really nice. They have lots of festivals throughout the year so check the website and see if the place is going to be packed before you go.
Bite of Seattle was here one year and I really enjoyed that. Wasn't at all what I expected but I tried gator for the first time so it was really interesting.
Laser shows at the Science Center are great. Couple of good restaurants on the premises and there is a stadium that has sports and concerts.
Overall it's a great place with lots to see and do. Take a nice stroll through the grounds, try the carnival rides, eat some good food, and just enjoy a nice sunny afternoon.

I've got to chime in on the International Fountain too, it's simply one of the best places to hang out outside in Seattle, get wet, people watch, listen, be mesmerized by the play of water and kids... It doesn't get as much tourist press as some other places, but it wouldn't be Seattle without it. The rest of the Center is a great place to spend a weekend, because you won't see or do it all in a day, from the Pacific Science Center to the Fun Forest, Center House to McCaw Hall, EMP to the Children's Museum, theaters to the Space Needle... and on and on. Don't overlook little corners and out of the way spaces, there are stunning galleries and displays here that are easy to miss in the bustle.
While Bumbershoot is great, my favorite big event here is the NW Folklife Festival. Dance, music, diversity, poetry readings, movie screenings, international food... it's outstanding and a great way to start the summer. The Seattle Center is a vital part of our city and not to be missed.

What is there not to like about the Seattle Center? Okay so sometimes a few homeless people will be camped out sleeping or talking to themselves or even you (I had one come and ask me for a few of the cherries I was eating.... ugh) but the positives are definitely far outweighing the negatives.
The fountain is amazing. I can sit here all day and watching the different patterns of sprayer thingies, and watch the kids get sprayed.
The events are the coolest in all the city- Bumbershoot, Bite of Seattle, Folklife- I've been to them all (I live about 5 blocks away). The bite of seattle is my favorite, crowded but not too crowded. Bumbsershoot is obviously the best musically, but it can get so crowded and stuffy, and HOT!
I love it. Perfect for an afternoon picnic in the grass.

So if you live here, I am going to bet you've been here. Our own "Central Park", this is the gathering place for Seattle during our festivals, basketball games, and tragedies (I'll long remember 9/11 and leaving flowers in the fountain).
There is lots to do, including the Fun Fair, the EMP, Space Needle, etc etc, but hands down, my favorite free activity here is to watch the International Fountain. The water is choreographed to music, and during the summer hear, it is so much fun to watch kids playing in it, and perhaps dare yourself to run in and touch the metal fountain without getting soaked.
Really the heart and soul of this town, I think.

If you're going to visit Seattle, live in Seattle, or whatever the heck---in Seattle..... you have to come to the Seattle Center. it's a command. not only is this the staple of city... but c'mon, it's such a great place to be. in the shadows of the Space Needle, this is where all the hot events take place! from the Fun Forest, Jazz Festivals, Water Fountain (where you can walk through on a hot day and get drenched for free.), the crazy but mind-blowing architecture, historical and amazing concerts, Bumbershoot, basketball aftermaths, etc... it's the place to hang out during the spring/summer/fall, it's the heart of Seattle. you can't leave Washington without the experience.
I've been coming here since i was a newborn. the countless pictures and memories i've made here will never be forgotten. i love this place so much. check out EMP, too. the Jimi Hendrix/Rock n Roll museums. they always have fantastic exhibits and something for everyone. come during the weekends- they have their cocktail lounge open for drinks and dancing. hiphop/r&b/top40. just.... go!

Visiting Seattle Center is a no-brainer when folks are visiting town for the first time. Everyone wants to see the Space Needle. Aside from pointing out-of-town guests in the right direction and attending the occasional music festival, though, I have to admit that I generally spend little or no time here. I pretty much assumed everything sort of dried up during the non-tourist season. So, imagine my surprise when I was wandering around this weekend and discovered that there is life occurring at Seattle Center all the time - and it's actually a pretty great place to be!
There were families all over the place taking advantage of the convenient concentration of activities and open space that the Seattle Center has to offer. On this random day, a person visiting Seattle Center would have the following activities to choose from (and probably more that I am clueless about):
Checking out the holiday train display and meeting Santa at the Center House
Hopping the Monorail to Westlake Center
Urban Craft Uprising in the Exhibition Hall
Ice Skating and a Carousel by the International Fountain
The arcade and rides at Fun Forest
Productions at a handful of theaters, including the Children's theater
The Nutcracker Ballet matinees
The Children's Museum, including a Mr. Potato Head exhibit
Experience Music Project, including an exhibit of letterpress concert posters
The Science Fiction Museum
Pacific Science Center, including the IMAX theater and an exhibit of Lucy, the missing link and mama to us all
All this stuff in one place? The question shouldn't be "why go?", - it should be "why leave?"

This place sort of sprung up organically over the years and the whole thing was never really planned. Thus, the layout is confusing. I've lived in Seattle my entire life and I always get lost here.
The food court is kind of scary and depressing. It seems like every time I'm in there, half of the places are closed for some reason.
Speaking of scary and depressing, oh Fun Forest. What happened? At least in the 70s, you had a Zipper!
One star for Folk Life. Five for IMAX.
I miss the Flight to Mars, and the Bubbalator.

Simply a great place for any occasion. Sonics / Storm / Thunderbirds games, ballet, the Pacific Science Center and so on (my senior prom was at McCaw Hall). It's a great place because there really is something for everybody: you can catch a play, learn a little at the Children's Museum or PSC, or sprawl out on a blanket and people watch, go to school (there's a high school in the Center House), go ice skating, or frolic in the International Fountain.
Seattle would not be Seattle without the Center because it's our Central Park. It's where we go to gather (Folklife, the Bite, Bumbershoot, and every cultural festival imaginable, the Festival Italiano being the best I might add) and mourn (post-9/11, pit of the International Fountain filled with flowers). THANK GOD THE GREEN LINE MONORAIL DIDN'T CUT THROUGH THE CENTER I MUST SAY!
So yes, best place to chill on a nice summer day, and catch the mist off the fountain and listen to the All-City Band rehearsing

I was a bit disappointed. I had popcorn in the food court. Maybe it was because I came there at 9 pm when it was about thirty degrees or so. I walked by the Key Arena, but the Sonics do not play there anymore. The Space Needle looked awesome at night from close up.
I am a big fan of the fantastic place! Bring your family to Seattle and checkout Seattle Center.

I am giving thanks on Thanksgiving for a spot that is near and dear to my heart.
Thank you Seattle Center for providing me with the following things throughout the years:
1. A place to be pushed around in a stroller.
2. A bit of dirt to eat when no one was looking.
3. A good spot to watch and feed birds and squirrels.
4. A place to go to watch taffy being pulled.
5. A children's museum where I could stay for hours.
6. A fountain to play in with my sister.
7. A festival called Whirligig that I begged and begged to go be taken to until someone listened to me.
8. A venue to see The Nutcracker
9. A pirate ship that was the best for birthdays
10. A few animatronic dinosaurs that used to scare me
11. An elevator ride and a lookout from the Space Needle to prove to everyone that I am fearless.
12. A store to learn about holograms.
13. A dance floor to watch ballroom dancing.
14. A monorail to ride to, like, OMG, to the mall.
15. A put put golf course to go on those first few awkward group dates.
16. A revolving restaurant that I thought was sooo fancy.
17. A day at Bumbershoot when I wanted to die of suburban boredom.
18. An Arena to see Arena type rock bands.
19. A film festival that provided me with my first glimpse of indie movies.
21. A spot to go drinking!
22. A room to take acting lessons
23. A park to eat lunch with my best friend.
24-28: A spot to miss while I lived in other states.
29. A comforting view of the Space Needle when I moved back home to Seattle.
30. A nice way to cut through the city on my bus ride to work.
31. A spot in this city to care about.
(I am not thankful for The Sonics, The Folklife Festival, The EMP, or The Bite of Seattle.)

I must've come here on a bad day, cause this place was utterly depressing and disappointing. From the aging carnival rides, to the Experience Music Project with an under construction Jimi Hendrix exhibit, to the soon to be vacated Key Arena, the Seattle Center goes to show what can happen when you pull together poor planning and mediocre attractions. Even the trip up the famed Space Needle is depressing when you see the chart inside of all the other landmarks that top the needle in stature and design. They might as well give you a sticker on the way that says "Thanks for visiting last place, buddy."
