Useful and very user friendly. I love how you can sort the restaurants by type of food, name, etc. Also - having it list your prior order is great for people who had an enjoyable previous meal.
Delivery is hit or miss because that depends solely on the restaurant, but whenever I've called the restaurants about my order, they all seemed to be able to reference it quickly.
Lastly, my company has a corporate account, and it's SOO easy to place an order. You can split the bill with multiple clients, which saves a lot of hassle later.
Want to rise up against those restaurant flyers that get slipped under your door?
Well never look at one again. I don't. If I'm lazy enough to do delivery, I shouldn't have to sort through flyers... or even talk to anyone. So I order online, it offers me an email when the restaurant gets my order, and it tells me how long it'll take. It even offers 20% off some restaurants.
I like lazy.
One suggestions: They need to partner with Yelp or a service like it to increase review use and get better collective bargaining for those 20% offs.
whenever i would work late at my former company - which was often, mind you - i would always order dinner from seamlessweb. unfortunately, we were too cheap to have a corporate account, but i was more than happy to get everything expensed afterwards since the system was so damn user-friendly.
(on a side note, i actually went out with a guy who did marketing for the company and he mentioned they were constantly brainstorming to make the service even EASIER to use. man, what a great job.)
no need to chat with some overworked hostess - who could potentially get my order wrong - or describe my company's location to some dimwitted assistant. i know that i'm particular about what i eat and i hate wondering if they really got that i wanted more sauce or if they REALLY took out the butter from my meal. since everything's electronically recorded on seamlessweb, there's no need to fear that something was lost in translation, and make dinner anymore stressful than it already is. this way, i can keep on working - interrupted - for 342434 more hours.
with seamlessweb, it's click, click, click and you're done! they even send "miss you" emails when you've been inactive for awhile.
man, they rock my lazy ass's socks. i DO miss them.
Are you hungry, but lazy?
Are you one of those people who never has cash when you're in a cash-only situation?
Do you not like talking to people, especially on the phone?
If the answers to the above questions are "Yes", "Yes" and "OMG freaking hate it!!!", then hop onto SeamlessWeb, and your lazy, ATM-dodging, anti-social ass can be fed with just a few clicks!
Yesterday I made a rare appearance in my lab on the Upper-Upper East side. At lunchtime I was craving Thai food, but there were two problems: 1) It was raining, 2) I had no idea whether there was a Thai restaurant nearby--the UUES is not known for its vast culinary offerings, so I usually stick to the hospital cafeteria because it's dirt cheap and they sometimes have tater tots.
But, 90 seconds on SeamlessWeb and I had a carton of Pad See Yew on its way to my belly, and I didn't have to get wet! If you're not familiar with SW, you simply put in your address, and it gives you a list of every restaurant willing to deliver to you. You decide which one you want, and then click-click-click your way through the menu. Many restaurants will give you a 20% discount just for using SW (um, cha-ching anyone?), AND you can put the tip on your credit card! How very extremely excellent and 21st century is that?
Thank you SeamlessWeb for Providing easy access to lots of restaurant locations within and outside of my immediate vicinity.
Thank you for having 'easy-to-peruse' menus with all available options just one mouse click away.
Thank you for the pleasant late night surprises I have had by ordering from a few of the West Side Deli's/Restaurants/Diners that you had listed on your site.
Thanks for the Egg White Sandwich on 7 grain bread from 'Bread Factory Cafe', Dragon and Four Sister Rolls courtesy of 'Empire Szechuan' and the Mushroom Burger with Sweet Potato Fries from 'Route 66'.
Thank you Seamless for a fast system of confirmation from the restaurants. My inbox has that confirmation right after the enter key is tapped.
Thank you for a system that lets me save my favorite restaurants and specific orders so that my next visit to your site is even easier.
I have also noticed that an order placed via SeamlessWeb never gets mistaken, whereas an order placed over the phone can be messed up and usually has to be repeated to the 'taker'. You say "Provolone", the guy on the other end might think you said "Silicone".
I can't thank you for the fact that there is not a 'remember me' option on the home page. Having to reenter my email address and password every time I log in is slightly annoying. You're losing a star for that.
Except for the above and the fact that if the Internet connection sucks the same order can be placed twice(therefore charging my card twice) I love SeamlessWeb and wished it existed in all the boroughs.
SeamlessWeb is the future of food delivery(especially late at night)
With the weather looking this bad, I have a renewed appreciation for Seamless Web.
We've been using SW quite consistently, at least once a week. Basically, it's a platform for order-ins. The whole system works very smoothly, with easy, convenient and reliable service. And thankfully, you no longer have to be a corporate account holder to use it. Typically, the wait is 45 minutes or less. I hope that more restaurants will sign up with them (in various other cities, too), so we'll have a wider selection of restaurants.
Best of all, it lets you escape from the trouble of dealing with the restaurants directly and rummaging for cash...which I'm never good at.
This is such a great and useful website. It would be cool if it was to expand to include other delivery places like grocery or liquor stores.
It's definitely better designed than http://delivery.com and makes browsing for what you want a snap. I have and will continue to order through seamless!
It gives you descriptions of the items on the menus when you hover over each item so you don't have to click into each listing to see what it is. So helpful. I haven't had a problem with their customer support either.
I love you. Seriously I do. As a semi-misanthrope, I appreciate not having to actually talk to someone on the phone when placing an order. As a binge eater, I don't have to be embarrassed by how much I order. (I usually have the TV on when they come so it seems like someone's in the other room). As a binge drinker, I appreciate being able to get fries and an omelet off of the internet.
I just wish there were more restaurants in my neighborhood that subscribed...
Seemless web is the best thing to happen to lazy people lilke me!
Call me crazy....but I really hate calling places to order and having to yell into the phone due to all the background noise...or flat out not being able to understand the person on the other end....then realize I don't have cash so I have to run to the atm before the delivery gets there...and it goes on and on and on....
Seemless solves these problem for me!!! Enter your home address and up pops a ton of restaurants that deliver to your area. If you are lucky enough one of them may even have a 20% off discount. Browse the menu...pick out what you like....enter your credit card number and **Poof** your food arrives shortly after.
No money to exchange...no mis-communication on the phone. Super easy! I love it!
Thanks to my company, I get to enjoy a subsidized SeamlessWeb everyday and therefore have an overwhelming knowledge of this website.
There is a great variety of restaurants (and caterers) on the website, and pretty much everything is customizable in comment boxes. The interface is user friendly and almost too easy.
The catering option is also really convenient for business meetings. You just punch in the # of people you have to feed, it shows you your options and next thing you know you're catered!
The website itself definitely earns 5 stars. You just can't always expect the restaraunts who receive the orders to be able to read them correctly.
I am grateful for this service -- although it could probably do with some user features such as the ability to post personal comments or reviews (either publicly or privately for your own information) and better ways of estimating how long delivery takes. It would also be nice if it was more obvious just how much my firm will let me bill for dinner (it will tell me when I'm over the limit, but I just wish I knew the limit - thought it was $20 til today, when I was able to get away with $20.91; ooooh, pricey!).
Nonetheless Seamless Web, thank you for bringing me food without having to interface with any humans or having to wait for accounting to reimburse my late night dinners!
This service is fantastic. I wish more people used it so more restaurants had to accept it. Here are the basics:
Quick Summary of Benefits:
1) You don't have to talk to someone on the phone and give them your address info.
2) You can put in on your credit card - helpful if you blew through your latest ATM withdrawal the night before and/or get points on your CC.
3) You can set a fixed tip vs having to make the call when the bill gets there and either you or the delivery guy are getting stuck w/ a bunch of coins.
4) It saves past orders which is great for either recurring orders or you need a receipt for accounting.
5) Some restaurants will provide occasional 20% discounts and I think first-timers get a similar discount across all restaurants. Not a big deal for small orders but if you get a bunch of people in on a work order, you can basically get a free lunch :)
6) They list the top 10 most ordered dishes for each restaurant - helpful when you're looking for dish ideas.
7) If the delivery goes beyond the estimated time (never has happened), you can at least notify other people vs yell at the person over the phone. Restaurants have delivery ratings on the site as well.
Explanation of the Service:
It's an online service (http://www.seamlessweb...) originally designed for corporate food orders but now covers individuals as well. You save your address and CC info (you can save multiple - I have one for home and one for work) and it provides a list of all restaurants that deliver to your location. Any restaurant not open is grayed out.
Once you select a restaurant, you see their full menu w/ prices (a la MenuPages) as well as estimated delivery time and minimum delivery amount (most are $0-$15 but there's the occasional prick of a restaurant that goes higher - yeah, i'm talking to you EJ Luncheonette w/ your $28 minimum).
You click on any items you like and it takes you to another page for customizing the order (a la How do you want your burger? Butter or jelly w/ your toast, etc). A write-in box is provided for any customization not already covered.
When you've finished customizing your selection, you click a button and it takes your order. It's added to your running order and you can see the post-tax and tip total (you set the tip). SeamlessWeb does not add a surcharge to the user which is great - they must charge the restaurant. If only that's how Fandango worked!
When you're done w/ all your selections, you click a button and move to the purchase screen w/ your saved CC info. Once you accept, you get an e-mail confirmation.
When the food comes, you just sign the printed out receipt from the delivery guy.
What are the drawbacks?
It doesn't have every restaurant in your neighborhood. For UWS, I get 71 choices. Sounds like a lot but it's definitely limiting. I want Vietnamese - it gives me Rain (no Saigon Grill). I want Thai and it gives me Lemongrass (but no Land).
Note #1: Also see my comparison vs. http://Delivery.com (http://www.yelp.com/bi...)
Note #2: They offer a $5 coupon to anyone who refers a new user. So if I've somehow swayed you with this e-mail, Yelp me your e-mail address and I'll send you a direct referral. It's no big deal but if they're handing out money, it would be dumb not to take advantage, no?
My girlfriend and I wanted to have a race to see whether it was faster to order with Seamless Web or call the place directly. The delivery times they quote are accurate, but can run a little longer than some may be used to.
If it's a loud place and they have trouble with orders, Seamless Web is a great option. Also, you can use it to schedule a delivery later on in the day. Still, for a regular place where you're used to having them recognize you and quick run up your order, it may be better to call.
Keep in mind you must pay by credit card and your tip is included in the charge, so if you want to use cash or tip based on how fast they deliver, you should call directly.
Still, I can't believe it's taken this long for Seamless Web to catch on like some things in NY. It is really easy to use and the user interfaces are straight forward. If it were a public company, I'd buy stock in it (alas, it's owned by Aramark---kinda weird).
Great idea however I think it's been poorly executed. There's many areas that this site can improve in. Especially in terms of reliability and consistency.
It's a great site to use for quick delivery and deals. Deals which are often only available on the Seamless site as opposed to ordering directly with the restaurant, such as the 20% first time order with participating restaurants!
It's also great for the fact that it saves your most commonly ordered items which makes it a breeze for the days you just want food that you're familiar with and want NOW!
An awesome service -- truly seamless. So quick and easy -- beats shouting my order and address and phone number and credit card number to a foreigner anyday.
I wish it was able to pull reviews from yelp. I also wish the restaurants in Brooklyn would start using it..there's not a single one on the service that will deliver to my apt in boerum hill :( For now, i'll just have to enjoy using it at work.
Recommended for:
- exploring different places you may never try
- testing out a place before wasting time going there if it's bad
- easy ordering since ordering on the phone is so, you know, 1990's
Not recommended for:
- A.D.D.
- indecisiveness
- Korean food cravings
This is the best thing since kroyo.
Seamless Web is a god-send, a totally "seamless" online delivery experience with an easy interface, smooth ordering, and good options. It is similar to that of http://Delivery.com, to where one can order online for a multitude of restaurants in the area. The key differences between the two are vast, with Seamless coming out as the overall winner. A good metaphor would be: Seamless Web is to http://Delivery.com as Yelp is to Citysearch. Get it?
Often times restaurants that don't appear on Seamless happen to be on http://Delivery.com and vice versa. It seems for now, the best is to use both services together to get the best of both worlds.
02/01/2008 Update: SeamlessWeb now works in Queens and Brooklyn. Hotness!
Great concept! It reminds me of a similar phone service for Berkeley students in the late 1990s. It is ideal for busy and/or lazy peeps, aka me because I am a sloth not because I am busy.
I had a turkey sandwich and a hearty salad from some deli on the site. It was just like a normal sandwich from a normal deli. It was pricey for a sandwich, but anything in NYC would cost more than other places. Luckily, I didn't have to pay.
Just another idea for seamlessweb to explore...what if they offer a butler, you know, like the delivery person would come into the house, set the table, light a few candles, and even serenade while I am eating. I think it's a great idea for a lazy , I mean busy, couple. Hmm...
Best. Website. Ever. (Besides Yelp).
I am generally very busy. I generally hate trying to call a restaurant and order food while the person on the phone is yelling at cooks in the background, putting you on hold every 2 minutes or whatnot. Most of the time they get mad when you try to pay with a credit card, yada, yada yada. Then when the food gets there, it's all wrong because they couldn't understand what you were trying to say.
Enter Seamlessweb. It's all web-based, uses a single payment system (any credit card you want) and combines tons and tons and tons of restaurants that deliver to your area into one convenient, consistent-looking place.
If I could give them six stars for not accepting cash, I would. Places that are cash-only in this day and age get under my skin worse than bedbugs. Argh!
I've always had good experiences with the delivery and I have probably ordered from the 100-200 times, easy.
I just wish the user reviews of the restaurants were as useful and comprehensive as they were here on Yelp...
I don't know what I would do without Seamless. My job leads me to working many late nights, and Seamless makes it really easy for me to browse a wide variety of restaurants and place my order in no time.
I think Scott gave as much detail as anyone could need, so I'll leave it at that!
I trust my intuition. But thanks to Seamlessweb I now know empirically that over 80% of the Japanese restaurants in the city are not run by Japanese people. I am not dissing the restaurants at all. Just stating fact.
Clue #1:Not a single Japanese restaurant on Seamlessweb has Katsu Curry.
Clue #2: Every menu had the exact same items. Japanese people eat more than dragon rolls and teriyaki lunch boxes.
Thanks to Seamlessweb, I can make these kinds of sweeping judgments sitting at my desk. I don't want to do trial-and-error on 146 restaurants.
Also Seamlessweb allows me to compare prices because I can see that one place charges $5.95 for a shrimp tempura roll and other charges $8.95. I am convinced they all were taught a Japanese Restaurant formula for success. Katsu Curry was not in the curriculum. I even asked several of them if they could make it and they flat out said "No!" I just need a Go Go Curry to open on my side of Broadway.
The bottom line is that Seamlessweb rules! 146 restaurants! Most mediocre but who really cares? I don't starve, I don't have to put on shoes. I don't even have to talk to a human other than the doorman when the order comes.
"Food delivery"
"Thanks!"
Pretty excellent theory and good in practice. . . . I also dream of the day they expand out of manhattan and revolutionize queens and brooklyn . .
Ok well food options were aplenty when i was working in midtown and time was not so Seamless was a great friend. It is also wonderful if you've got meetings and clients to plan for b/c it makes billing things to clients totally a seamless proposition.
Now food options are quite a bit more scarce that I'm downtown past the WTC on the FAAAAAAHHHH west side. . . Therefore I am once again thankful for Seamless. .. .
Also for all those pesky places that don't take cards or for the days when you don't remember to carry cash around on you -- Seamless saves they day allowing u to still place an order and bill it to your credit card. . .
Also kudos for forcing folks to tip cause I've worked for some the stingiest rich people in the world!!! DAMN it is truly a sad thing to see.
Amazing restaurant selection, incredibly easy to use and attractive web site, and it's cheaper than ordering over the phone!
I make sure to choose a restaurant offering a 20% discount when I order (there are over 500 that do), so even with the delivery tip, it's cheaper than picking the food up myself!
It's perfect for ordering lunch to the office or days when you don't feel like cooking. I seriously order like 4 times a week because it's so easy and cheap.
Jeez, I feel like they should be paying me for all the great things I've been saying about them on Yelp. If you see this, Mr. SeamlessWeb, think about it!
Best everrrrr. Im so lazy and its so cold out and seemless makes life so much easier.
I hate calling for deliveries bc they rush you and i feel weird giving my credit info over the phone and sometimes they rush you so much that they hang up before they take it and i gotta go outside to get to an atm anyway! Totally defeats the purpose eh?!
Lots of options. You can browse by category. Its great!
http://www.seamlessweb... is in charge of all of my food ordering. I have pretty much stopped making phone calls to loud restaurants in order to get my sesame chicken or pizza delivered. And why would I when I have seamless web?
It's a free website, where you register as a user, giving them your location and they keep a credit card on file. Then the website shows you all of the places that participate in seamless web in your delivery area.
You choose a place, click on the foods you want, even make subtitutions like having brown rice instead of white and when done you check out.
A few minutes later, depending on the place where you ordered from, the food arrives at your door, exactly how you ordered it and best of all, you just have to sign a piece a paper because the charge and the TIP all went right to the cc you had on file.
What could be better than that? get some!
For corporate drones like me who work late at the office.
Does everyone else get a $25 spending limit from their company? If not what is your dinner spending limit? IM me if you want.
You would think $25 would buy you a lot of food, but try to order dinner from places like Bukhara (my favorite indian) or Shun Lee Palace, and you barely get an entree. I think they markup their seamless web menus.
Some recommendations for improvement:
1. get the restaurant to tell you by email notification when the food has left the restaurant and how long the delivery will take. Then you can plan to be available to go down to your office lobby when they come.
2. give customers the option to be charged a waiting fee, rather than having the delivery guy go back to the restaurant if the customer isn't downstairs within 10 minutes after arrival to get his food - the times when I am tied up on the phone for 1/2 hour when my meal comes and I miss it are the times when I would probably pay a lot to get a hot meal (or could probably get a client to pay a lot for me). Like $25 an hour to keep the guy waiting or something like that.
If your employer works you so hard that you don't have time to meet your delivery guy, they should pay to make the delivery guy wait. Seamless web just needs to offer that feature.
Great great website. Whenever I'm at work late, we order dinner from here. Better than keeping a binder full of menus and calling. Plus, I like all the pictures. No fuss. No confusion. I only wish Seamlessweb and Yelp would get together. How great would ordering off Yelp be?

I.M.Y.
Can't say enough good things about this site. First heard of it a few years ago, then saw the face of the creator on the cover of something or other. But, only recently did I start using the service. Honestly, it is a great idea because it allows you to skip on the voice communication and get straight down to business when ordering food. Also, it's great because it enables individuals to explore new restaurant options they wouldn't ordinarily stumble upon. And, as always- you can RATE the places you loved and hated the most.
The only complaint I have is regarding delivery time. While it is extremely wise to introduce places from all ends of town---- you should also take into account the travel time. Because it SUCKS WHEN YOUR FOOD IS COLD!
I type shit into a computer and a dude shows up at my office with a bag of food?? Um...YES!
Agreed, what would I do without SeamlessWeb? I have had my fair share of late nights in the office and Seamless brings the BEST of NYC take out to your fingertips. The website is very efficient and user-friendly. One can add the tip right into your order, and it can be charged to your personal credit card or to the company, in fact, even to a specific billing code, which bills it to the appropriate project/client. Delivery time varies depending on restaurant but there are so many options that it is pretty easy to find something close to work, which usually takes less time. I love the convenience of Seamless so much that I've even used it for personal use from home etc.
I love SeamlessWeb! It makes ordering food SO easy. I detest shouting my address and phone number to someone over the phone in a crowded noisy restaurant who cannot understand me. With SeamlessWeb, I just enter all this on-line and it saves my information. Some restaurants offer a 20% discount too, and I've never had any problem with the delivery time or order accuracy!
w00t! Easy-squeasy food delivery. One click and then food is at your doorstep!!!
90% of my dinners consumed at work are ordered through SeamlessWeb. Sometimes, it's nice to have the least amount of human interaction possible when ordering food... The process is truly seamless and sometimes they even send discounts (which are saved for personal use).
convenient and easy.
Look, I hate to give such a terrific service such a bad review but I have no choice! My experiences so far were done at work. There was a corporate account pre-set for me to use and the service worked, as promised, seamlessly. A very easy way to order. My only complaint came from when a restaurant forgot a piece of my order and deemed it unnecessary for them to re-deliver. I blame the restaurant and not the service. Now I'm at home trying the service. After nearly an hour figuring out exactly what I want, where to get it from, entering all the relevant credit card data and...NOPE! The credit card verification process does NOT work on a Mac! What the?!? I tried Safari and Firefox to no avail. I called Seamlessweb customer service and they had somebody there at 4:30 on a Sunday which was impressive. Her reply was "Ya. Sorry. Mac users have problems." So now I hate seamlessweb. Too bad, because they would've made a buncha money off me.
