9 reviews for SeaBreeze Tavern
This is my favorite bar in Santa Cruz. Yes its a dive bar and we like it that way! I love the new owners and even tried his "beertini" complete with peanuts!!!
Ask about the history of the bar and you'll get some great stories.
Live music on weekends and he even got the fight on pay-per-view this past weekend. Good times!
If you want to party down in a night club, go to San Jose. The Seabreeze Tavern is a quiet little joint for good talk and drinks. This is one of my favorite places to get a drink. Those that are turned off by the Beertender, be a little patient, he's usually the only one behind the bar. You need to have a sense of humor to enjoy his company.
My second least favorite bar in town. I went there twice, once to see some friends of mine play music outside, which was nice, till I went to the bar. The guy behind the bar was a jerk. He seemed totally stressed out. I tried to get his attention to order a drink and he acted like he was doing me a favor. I ordered a Sierra Nevada....5 bucks! For a 12 ounce bottle!!!!! After tip I paid 6 bucks for one beer. I finished my beer and went to the liquer store down the street and made my own tastey vodka redbull and watched the music from the street.
If you are going to charge 5 bones for a low quality beer at least have a good attitude and a more inviting atmosphere.
Overall- overpriced, over rated and not a fun atmosphere.
This place has the location and the history but that is where anything good comes to a halt. The place is never open on a regular basis, that is bad enough, but when it is open it only goes downhill even faster and deeper.
The "Bartender", owners boy friend, is a complete Tool. Can pour a beer and act rude and that is it. We ordered a few basic Lemon Drop martini's and he was Lost! Have given the place the benefit of the doubt on more than a few occasions but one must eventually come to the realization that once a tool always a tool. Don't waste your time!
Ouch. This place (Sea Breeze Tavern) is in the "flats" of Rio Del Mar. While it does not have a direct ocean view, only a parking lot sits between it's front door and the ocean which is a stones throw away. It has a history going back to the 1920's but became a real eye-sore and biker dive and was actually shut down in the 1990's.
Well, it reopened under new ownership in late 2007 and although I wouldn't think possible, little has changed under new ownership.
It is still a dive - and tacky, even by Santa Cruz / Aptos standards.
Even before entering the place you get the feeling things cannot be that great as the roof and front entry is covered with pigeon feces. Inside there is a bar and about 5-6 round tables. In the back is a larger dark room but when I was there it was empty. They do serve some bar food (burgers) but this place is all about drinking and suffice to say, drunks abound.
The first time I went I ordered a drink and sat at the bar (with my back to the ocean) and just did not feel comfortable. Kind of a depressing place. I believe the owner was working the bar and he was anything but friendly. I decided to try it again several months later and if anything, things had gotten worse. Definitely keep the woman and children away from this place. The only saving grace is that outside this place is some of the most spectacular coastline and beaches in Santa Cruz County.
MD I feel like your review is bitter, and filled with comments that are vengeful and untrue.
There are NO drunkards in this place, they are not even welcome.
The place was not "shut down in the 1990's" the owner closed and moved upstairs pretty much because she was crazy.
"Keep the woman and the children away from this place"
Please!! It's a restaurant not a gang infested war zone!!
Plently of families come in on the weekend for beers, soda, and hot dogs!
The Seabreeze is your local pub, and totally family friendly.
It's just a simple place for simple people who want to have a drink and a little bite to eat.
The menu has simple tavern fair and a full bar.
There is a beach patio and is no where near the eyesore that it once was.
I have NO idea how this place has kept its doors opened. The bartenders/owners, have NO couth at all! They are super unfriendly, rude and condesending. As a tax payer of Aptos, I would vote to shut this eyesore down!
We used the backroom to have a small intimate party. We catered food in but had the Sea Breeze do the open bar. It was intimate and the owners were very accomodating to our needs. If you use your imagination you can have fun with this venue. Yea, its old (at least 80 years) but the owners are working on polishing and creating a special place. They just opened up the outside area and am looking forward to more improvements. No it's not Cafe Rio, but it is a neighborhood bar that is developing character.
This is a diamond in the rough... great location.. and friendly. It's a "come as you are" local style tavern. Reminisceint of the way the Aptos beach flats was 50 yrs ago. A flashback.. Classic building and Bar. Small town feeling ... so relax , take your hat off. They have a raw but lots of potential patio area (to be developed) on the side of the tavern with killer ocean/beach view. Live music on some weekends. Check it out. http://www.TheIslandBr... , 831-475-7412
