Since the new owners have taken over this past July, this has become THE place to eat in Cedar Key, very good service, a fast kitchen, and excellent food! The hearts of plam salad with the ice cream dressing is unbelievable (not what I'm used to but WOW). The new owners are making improvements on the building too and they now have beer and wine, full bar in the next few days, I was told. Check them out!

Ordered the coconut shrimp and the grilled shrimp. The coconut shrimp was like what you would get at Sam's club. The grilled shrimp was spongey and had no flavor. Hush puppies could have been used as golf balls. Paid $16.95 for this plate of crap. Very disappointed.

I was skeptical when I walked in. It SMELLS old, it LOOKS old, it's kitchee kind of cliche "seafood restaurant" decor didn't impress me, and the tables & chairs are a hodge-podge of colors & styles. The menu was a two-sided, laminated sheet of paper (which did mention the new menus were on order). I wasn't hopeful... It does have a nice view because the air-conditioned dining room is actually built over the water, so there is not a deck to have to look over to see the view of the Gulf.
My husband ordered the Shrimp Dinner (comes with 2 hush puppies, a salad & a side dish) for $12.99 & I ordered the Flounder Dinner for $11.99. My husband ordered Mashed Potatoes and for my side the Swamp Cabbage, which they were out of *frowny face*, so I ordered the Big Limas. The salad bar was fresh & cold, though nothing out of the ordinary: iceberg lettuce, onion, shredded cheddar, greek peppers, beets, boiled eggs, chick peas, etc. etc. It's a small salad bar, but WAIT... once you get your food you'll know why SALAD is not this restaurant's specialty!
The plates came quickly and WOWZA! The portions were HUGE! I couldn't believe there were a DOZEN JUMBO shrimp on my husband's plate and THREE FILETS on mine!!! The batter on the shrimp was light and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. Likewise, the flounder was excellently prepared, cooked moist, (but not too juicy) and had a cornmeal batter. Mmmmmm!!! Oh wait, I almost forgot the sides: The mashed taters were real taters & gravy and the limas were cooked with bits of ham & nicely seasoned.
We left FULL & had to-go boxes for dinner. Upon speaking to a local later that afternoon, she said she was happy to hear the new management had turned the place around. She said she was looking forward to visiting and giving them another chance. YELPERS, don't let the bad reviews stop you, this place is UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT and NOTHING like I'd expected from reading the past reviews and entering the *old style* restaurant. I read in one of the reviews that they don't accept credit cards, but we paid with one yesterday, so that's different now too. Lest I forget: First impressions can be wrong! -

Seriously, what kind of place in a tourist town doesn't take credit cards? At least the waitress mentioned that as soon as we were seated but it made for an awkward moment dining with my inlaws and counting how many jacksons I had in my wallet to determine if we were going to eat or not.
The view was nice, but the dining area is glassed in and the AC didn't seem to be on, so even though it was only 70° outside, it was quite warm inside.
The food was average. Typical fried or broiled seafood. The portions were large but the that included a lot of breading. The garnish on the plate with the inedible green stuff and the dyed apple slice reminds me of dining out back in the Reagan administration. The interior decor pretty much matches that experience. I think we could have done better in Cedar Key. -

As much as I love Cedar Key, I'm not a fan of the Seabreeze. I've been here twice; and other than a decent view of the Gulf Coast, this restaurant has horrible food, tacky decor, and super slow (albeit friendly, typical small town Southern charm) service. My friends and I sat there eating crackers for 20 minutes before a server bothered to take our drink orders.
I agree completely with the previous reviewer. I also ordered the Scottish Fries. They were burned and completely tasteless.
Do not let the Seabreeze deter you from visiting Cedar Key. There are about 5 restaurants on the same street. Just make sure you avoid this one! -

THE FOOD HERE IS HORRIBLE. And the decor inside is even WORSE. We once drove out to go to Frog's Landing, but Frog's Landing was closed. At 6pm. On a Thursday night. (Looking over their hours, they close "whenever.") If you get to Cedar Key and Frog's Landing isn't open, you're pretty much screwed. Just sayin'.
Anyway, this place was awful. We all ordered the Scottish Fries because we were intrigued by the name. They were simply waffle fries. That was our fault. But the rest of the food was just plain bad. Don't do it. -

This restaurant is OPEN and thriving. I had dinner there with a very large party last night and was absolutely amazed at the turn around. It's clean! New carpet, a small and excellent salad bar, good service, diverse menu and the air conditioner is working well. The last time I ate here (previous management) I said "never again." Today I'm saying I'll be there on a regular basis. Congratulations to the new ownership/management; you've worked a miracle.

Went in here for iced tea on a hot afternoon. Great view and real friendly staff. Decided to come back later for dinner. H*U*G*E* mistake. Had a cup of clam chowder and it was basically room temperature and SOUR! Not being the daring kind, I respectfully returned the "chowder" and got a salad instead. Ordered scallops and oysters, fried, with onion rings. All of it was just typical seafood fair, nothing special at all, with the exception of waiting an inordinate amount of time for the meal to be delivered. And... it was served at room temperature. I decided the terrible food must be the reason we were dining virtually alone in there. PLEASE do yourself a big favor and eat elsewhere. You will be glad you did.
