Cliffs Notes: Fabulous location, GREAT RATES, helpful & courteous staff, view cannot be beat!

The Tolstoy: My mom stayed at this hotel for one night in Jan 2009. She got a "standard" room on the third floor of the main building. PHENOMENAL views. We'd had plans to go off and do something, but we spent most of the afternoon just gazing at the scenery. Seriously - the location is phenomenal, and if you can get a room with a view it's the BEST!

There are several types of rooms available. The Standard ocean view room my mom got was basic (bed, TV, bathroom, desk) and clean, with a balcony overlooking Highland Ave and the ocean. She said it was a little noisy at night, but she was literally right over Highland, so I'm not surprised. Still, the view more than made up for the odd car driving by after dark. For $140/night (all year long; no "summer"/"winter" rates), it was splendid.

When checking out, we asked to see the Penthouse. WOW! Talk about phenomenal! Wood floors, great bathroom with shower & jacuzzi tub, two separate bedrooms, kitchenette, and private balcony. And it's far enough back from the street that there's no noise. And one of the two bedrooms has an ocean view while laying in bed! And it's just $250/night! Again, all year round. Seriously a bargain. When she and my dad come to visit in May with my brother, I think this is what they're going to try to get.

We met the owner and he was very pleasant. He clearly takes pride in running this beach hotel. All the staff we interacted with - by phone for getting info and making reservations, and in person for checking in and checking out - were courteous and cheerful. A real pleasure to deal with.

For the location, it's remarkably pretension-free. For the cost, it can have remarkably awesome views. I have already recommended this place to friends with out of town family that visit from time to time. I look forward to the next time my parents visit so they can stay here again!

The location is so perfect.  You are blocks from the gorgeous beach and they lend you anything you could possibly need - chairs, towels, boogie boards, toys for the kids.  There are delicious food options nearby (North End Cafe, Local Yolk) and the main commercial area of Manhattan Beach is a half hour walk or a quick drive (which is good because the area by the inn is super quiet).  It is also a 15 minute drive from LAX.

The staff is terrific and will bend over backwards for any request and are there from 7 AM to 11 PM.  I got a standard queen room with a fantastic view of the ocean.  There was a microwave and a mini-fridge which were great to have.  I have to say, for the price and location, it was a good room albeit damp and I had to kill 2 white bugs that had a lot of legs.

I stumbled across the Sea View when I had family in from Ohio and we wanted a place near the beach but had skipped the whole reserving a room step. Randomly we called the Sea View and found they had a little apartment rental for cheap compared to what the monsters in Santa Monica were peddling. This place blew our minds. The apartment had a huge kitchen with a full size refrigerator and a porch that over looked Highland and the ocean. And the living room had a flat screen television hanging above photos of the pier. Already this room was nicer than my apartment.

At most hotels you're paying for the room and maybe a bagel in the morning, the Sea View has bikes. Yeah, like bicycles. You can just jump on one and ride it to the beach. I did this every morning, biking past the early rising surfers and volleyball girls. After the rides I would sit on our porch and spot dolphins swimming past the surfers as the sun started to rise. Then I'd go swimming in the heated pool.

I recommend this place for anyone from out of town wanting to set up base near the water but I suggest it even more to locals looking to get out of the city for the weekend. Downtown Manhattan Beach is littered with bars. Try the IPA at the Redondo Beach Brewing Company, and then try six more.

I can't say enough nice things about Sea View Inn, in Manhattan Beach, California.  After we stayed here in Fall 2006 I wanted to tell EVERYONE in the world how great this little place was, but I didn't know about Yelp. Now, it's time . . .

Friendly, helpful staff, cute (basic) rooms. Perfect, walk-to-the-beach location. Charming (small) pool and patio. Beach cruisers you can use for free (and, I think, other beach items).  Also, it's right next door to Sloopy's, so there's delicious coffee and breakfast at hand. All at a very reasonable price.

Easy, pleasant place to stay.  Maybe not a lot of dinner restaurants, but you can walk (might be far for some folks) to the town of Manhattan Beach. Or drive, there is parking at the inn.

Low-key and very cool.

Seaview Inn is a fantastic place!!

Right on Highland, it is two blocks from the beach (albeit down hill).  A range of options for rooms, from basic to ones with full kitchens, etc.  The basic rooms do have microwaves and small refrigerators in them.

The staff is fantastic, with all the things you need for a beach vacation.  They have beach towels, chairs, boogie boards, etc.  They also have beach cruiser bikes as well.  All you need to do is sign them out.

The breakfast place is Local Yolk (which you can charge your meals there to your room), the lunch places are Sloopy's and North End Caffe.  There is a market across the street (Moon's Market) that has a variety of food, beer, wine, and alcohol.

So... traffic is f'ing LOUD.  I woke up at about 6 or 7 am when garbage trucks started lumbering by.  And less than an hour later, an ear-shattering siren that went onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn and onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn punctuated the vague idea I'd gotten that truly restful sleep was firmly located in the past.
We stayed in a standard ocean-view room ($140).  It was decent.  Very clean---in fact, it smelled so much like cleaning supplies that I yanked out my perfume and de-sanitized the place well and truly.  The bed was comfy, and the rest of the furniture was kind of cheap.  There was a spider in the bathroom, to whom I granted a stay-of-execution under the condition that he not attack me or the boy.  (He kept his promise, for which I am thankful.)  There was only a shower---no tub---and the bathroom was tiny (Vegas hotels have thoroughly ruined me).
Staff was nice... there was a small balcony, and the view was good... we were never offered (nor did we ask for) the free beach cruiser use that everyone else keeps mentioning, but then again it was the off-season, and nearly as cold as it gets in this part of CA.
I was a little disappointed with this place, to be honest (probably because of the rave reviews), but I suppose it served its purpose.  I wouldn't go out of my way to return, but nor would I shun this place should I be unceremoniously dumped in Manhattan Beach with only $140 plus tax on my person and no place to stay.  (Actually, I might chance it sleeping at the beach, and keep the money.  But then, I'm kind of cheap.)

Great location close to the beach.  The free use of their beach cruiser bike's and boogie boards is a definite plus!  The rooms are not huge, but we had an ocean view (if only it wasn't so foggy) and it's plenty big enough for the two of us.  There was a small fridge and microwave too.  The room was clean and it worked great for us.  I definitely recommend this place.

cute non pretentious hotel..we loved the location and wished we had more time to stay...I arrived late to the hotel due to work and had to leave early the next morning for work..so I basically only slept there.  Our room was a bit noisy..but will go back when we have more time...This is not really a five star hotel...(ritz)...but it is close to the beach and clean!  Cute lil pool too...
