11 reviews for Sea Captain's House
Ok food. Great view. Be sure to wait for a table next to the beach.
We went with our kids and the let us enjoy a two hour dining "experience" with all courses and a bottel of vino. The place is kid friendly.
The food was two stars with the exception of the scallop and grits starter which was great. The view and tolerance of our kids got it the third star.
My family and I decided to check out the Sea Captain's House after having it recommended a few times on our vacation to Myrtle Beach. The place is completely mediocre. If you've ever been to any half-way decent seafood restaurant on the eastern seaboard, you'll be very familiar with the Sea Captain's House. Nothing was bad, but nothing was particularly special, either. I will say the service was exceptional. If you're looking for a decent place to take the kids, it would be a good choice. If you're looking for a unique or remarkable dining experience, you'll do fine skipping this one.

Have eaten there 7 or 8 times perhaps. It's not bad but not great either. A favorite among locals, but you must remember. Myrtle Beach has a lot of very mediocre restaurants. They don't have to be good to do a great business because tourists are going to eat out. The locals know most places are bad.
Very overrated, especially for the price.
I heard some good things about Sea Captains and thought I'd stop by. I was greeting promptly and seated. The service was nice and fast. The food was ok. The hushpuppies were kinda greasy and the Gumbo was good, but not great. It was FULL of sea food though.
I'm not sure I'd go back, but I'm not sorry I went.
Ive been going to this place for the past 5yrs. maybe 10 total times. And I gotta say that i've always walked away pleased. My buddy who never eats seafood (literally before this place) actually looks forward to going to this place. Better than any of the chains around as well as the many calabash's. Great servers, great view of the atlantic, and usually jam packed at dinnertime. Try one of the specials of the day, and you'll be pleased!
Great fried seafood. Reasonable prices (less than $20 for adults, $10 for kids). Every table has a decent view of the beach!
This place has been voted best of all seafood restaurants in Southern Living for years, at least according to rumor, so frankly I'm rather surprised that I'm writing the first review. I went for a quick dinner on a Monday night while in town on business. I was seated promptly and service was kind and efficient. My dining companion ordered some crab soup, which was reportedly quite good. I got the crab cake entree which came with a good-sized side salad, tasty mixed vegetables, and baked potato - all for under $20. The crab cakes were fresh and very yummy. The Sea Captain also throws in hushpuppies (which are apparently onion-y fried grit (?) balls) gratis with every order.
Although I was too full for dessert, it looked great with options including, but not limited to, hummingbird cake, red velvet cake, blackberry crisp, and pecan pie.
Overall, solid food, reasonable prices, good quality - would visit again if I'm ever back in Myrtle.
A Myrtle Beach Institution - this place has been there forever. In my opinion. It is overrated and pretentious. The tables were very close together. I am going to try it again when I am in MB next month.
A Myrtle Beach While this landmark eatery offers one of the best views of the Ocean in Myrtle Beach, their seafood is what its truly all about. The dcor reflects the early days of Myrtle Beach with the knotty pine, while the oceanfront patio focuses on the flavor of the new Myrtle Beach. We love their homemade oyster stew, she crab soup, Sea Island shrimp salad, lump crab meat au gratin and Smithfield ham sandwiches, to name only a few of our favorites there. They also serve breakfast and lunch.
I was there for breakfast which is admittedly my least favorite meal of the day and perhaps not a great way to judge an establishment known for seafood. I had ham and eggs with homefries, which were probably the star of the plate. I'm not a big fan of eggs, but appreciated that I was served a pair of them that were perfectly over hard. While that might not sound like much, in my experience, that is a tough one for a lot of line cooks. I tasted a bit of the crab cake from the crab cakes benedict and that was superb. I'd definitely be willing to try it again for lunch or dinner and edit my review to reflect real food. BTW, I was there on a Sunday and there was definitely some sort of breakfast/brunch buffet going on. I left the South with the impression that among the many things that have defined that culture, large portions of food are absolutely one of them.
no! no! no! no! no! if you want overpriced, overcooked, hospital food--then yes. but by all means no! it's a local disaster. the server was really nice, but the food was a level 5 hurricane. we went to soho for emergency dinner and it was ok.
