This is a perfect little summer time spot right near Berkeley Marina... Outdoor picnic tables, close to the water, good seafood at a decent price, lots of snack and beverage options (everything from coffee drinks and milkshakes to beer and wine!)
If you are looking for a fine dining, fancy schmancy, glitz and glamour seafood restaurant, then this is not the place for you- But if you're looking for a quick seafood fix at a moderate price and a nice walk down Berkeley pier- this place is perfect!!
I have eaten here multiple times and have always left satisfied with a good experience. Portions are moderate (not too small, not too crazy big, but definitely reasonably fair). I would first recommend the fried fish sandwich- the a la carte fried catfish is pretty good for $3.25. It has a nice breading to it. The bay shrimp louie salads are pretty good too. The oyster po' boy sandwich could use another couple (2) oysters to make it worth it- or else it's too 'bready'. Get the fried oysters 'a la carte'. There is a small condiment stand with ketchup, hot sauce, Salt n pepper, and the malt vinegar is a nice touch for the fries! Please let me know if anyone prefers any of the other foods-
All in all, I definitely enjoy coming to this place and will continue to frequent this shack of goodness!! (as long as they keep up the good work, do Not raise prices, or start to skimp on the quantity). Way to be seabreazy!! -

After a Coast line bike ride I needed to refuel so I stopped into Sea Breeze Market. They had parking for my bicycle and I didn't have to worry about it getting stolen. I orded a cup of coffee from this cute little boutique convenience store. They even had a butcher in the back to cut some meats.
In a nutshell:
- After you take a nice walk or ride along the coastline stop into Sea Breeze Market for a cup of coffee.
- CASH ONLY for coffee's under $5.00 bucks -

A nice little stop off on a sunny day in Berkeley. Feeling the warm sun, through the warm breeze off the bay. What could be better than stopping off for some seafood and beer before hitting up the Berkeley Marina. Not much....
We grabbed some 20oz Sierra Nevadas, a shrimp cocktail and chips. The cocktail sauce was a little too ketchuppy for my taste, I prefer salsa spicy over the average heines. I also prefer prawns to bay shrimp, but all in all - it wasn't bad.
The patio area is really nice. I stretched out my legs to soak in maximum sunshine while enjoying my big ol' beer. It was a great feeling and I'm glad I had the opportunity to stop and try the Sea Breeze Market.Listed in: Adventures in the East Bay!

I loooove going to Berkeley for several reasons: the culture, art and locally owned gems! I don't even know how I discovered this place it's really small but they offer everything under the sun. I've had their burgers, clam chowder, smoothies and a few desserts and never have I been let down. The breakfast is really good too!

I was coming down University on my way to the freeway so I could drive back to the city. Traffic was backed up on highway 80. It was way past lunch time and my tummy was rumbling something fierce so I decided to stop for a sandwich and wait for the traffic to clear up.
The sandwich selection is pretty standard with various meats, cheeses, and breads available. When you order they give you a receipt that you need to take to the cashier to pay and then go back to pick up your sandwich when it's ready.
There are also some tables outside but you only have a view of the freeway on-ramps. The parking lot is all dirt and gravel, when cars drive though too fast they kick up a lot of dust which was a bummer since I just washed my car 30 min earlier.
$8.50 for a drink and salami and provolone sandwich. The sandwich was ok but there was a burned taste that I couldn't pin point. I don't think I'd go out of my way to eat here again -

Location, location, location
There was a time I drove from Sacramento to San Francisco frequently, in a car whose seat didn't fit me well. Sea breeze became the regular stop - plastic outhouse, espresso bar, easy freeway off and on, a chance to get out and stretch before tackling the maze and the bridge traffic. It provided all those things. -
Review from Ed U.
My oh my, what an odd place to put this establishment. If they just moved this operation closer to the real sea breezes that waft across the Berkeley Marina, my opinion could have been drastically altered. But placing it near the gas fumes coming off the 580 freeway exit just doesn't do much for me in terms of ambiance. It's a multi-purpose operation that combines a mini-market, an espesso bar, a smoothie kiosk, a fruit stand, and a take-out eatery focused on anything they can put in a deep fryer. I call it the Jack-in-the-Box approach of offering too many things and none of it all that appealing.
Jamie W. and I bypassed the fried food for a change in favor of a couple of Diet Cokes and bananas since we ate at Wally's Cafe just a couple of hours earlier. We sat at one of the red picnic tables (see photo) watching a stalled RV hold up the traffic coming from the marina. The driver's wife - I just assumed she was the wife judging from the patronizing insults she hurled at him - just got out of the vehicle and ordered onion rings doing nothing to help the poor guy who was hand-signalling everyone to drive around him. Such is the scene at the Sea Breeze. No surfboards, no fishnet-and-seashell decor. Just a couple yelling at each other. At least the banana was ripe.Listed in: Go East, Young Man!

What a great way to spend a lunch break and get away from the office. I had a crab sandwich on focacia bread and nice cold beer and sat outside on one of the many picnic tables available. Families, bike riders, joggers, people walking their dogs, and business people were all here standing in line either enjoying a smoothie or something to eat. Sitting at the picnic tables, you'll have a lot of entertainment...watching cars nearly crash into each other at that busy intersection; its pretty amazing and yet scary to see how many people don't know what to do when they get to a four way stop.
The food is pretty good, but not to die for. I'm going to try some of their fried goodness next time. Do bring a sweater because it can get pretty breezy out there. -

This is the kind of place we've been needing in berkeley. Seafood from the fast, cheap, and fresh food stand perspective. Lovely.

Seriously the best burger I've ever eaten!
This place is in a great location, every time I've been here It's been on bike. My friends and I will get high, go for a bike ride then get the munchies and arrive at this lovely little place for a bite to eat. it's so nice, they cater to everyone's needs. Their options for burgers and sandwiches are awesome! They even have a smoothie bar and candy, mmmm.
After grabbing my food I like to ride my bike down to the pier and eat it, although there are plenty of picnic tables for you to sit at, I prefer the view.
Go here, it will be yummy. -

The food here is really not that great. Reading the other reviews, I feel like people mostly come here for the seaside-feel atmosphere, or after they are famished from biking or walking around the Berkeley Marina.
Of course, I came here for the food. I am always searching for a great crab sandwich, and i was very disappointed with the one i ordered here.
First of all, it was a "crab salad sandwich" which i recently discovered only sometimes means its imitation crab. The wait was pretty long for the food, they had ran out of sourdough and when i got the sandwich it was smothered in mayonnaise and sprouts. sprouts? yes sprouts, it would have been better with none or less but this sandwich was overpowered by the main ingredient which was sprouts. Fries were mediocre and a small portion. The tartar sauce was very disappointing as it was watery mayo with a few chunks of pickles and onions, for a seafood deli i thought it would be a bit better. It was also very expensive, the sandwich and drink came out to $15.25. Nice location minus the snotty Berkeley hipsters, but I would only come back if i was going to the marina, for their crab cakes which were alright. and maybe try a different sandwich. -

Came here today after a 10-mile bike ride. This place is so cute! Part fruit stand, part smoothie and espresso bar, part deli, part convenient store, and part picnic area. This was really cute since it feels like a cute rest stop for bicyclists.
Cute place for a date if you are active and only in the day time. -

It's a fun little smoothies, sando and seafood shack along the bike and nature path.
Gravel and park benches. Gravel parking lot. A few bar seats. Seems like the place was pieced together with loose building material.
My hubby and I shared a whole crab for $18 and sat at the counter. The crab was fresh and drenched in butter and garlic.
It has a nice local community vibe and the people are nice. Worth experiencing with friends or family. -

Nothing special but dining outside while people watching.
I had the fish and chips, while my husband had the chicken sandwich. There was nothing too great about it.
Fish and chips: Fish was crispy, but needed salt. Fries were crispy as well, and was yummy.
One great thing about it though is that the environment is casual.
Warning to those who have cars lowered beyond the extreme.. Parking is in the dirt & Rock's there is non available on the streets). My husband learned the hard way.. -

Hm...was totally not what I expected although I have to admit I only briefly skimmed the Yelp reviews.
The intersection where Sea Breeze is located is filled with HORROR (at least on the day we came here). Due to the one lane, it was congested everywheree and was backed up left and right. We missed the turn and ended up going back on the highway instead of trying to wait in the line of cars.
Parked in the dirt "parking lot" and entered the market which is literally an open shack. It was kind of cute...a bit like one of those small grocery stops you see in the middle of nowhere selling fruits and veggies.
Grabbed a roast beef sandwich and a BLT. The roast beef looked way delicious compared to my BLT.
I wish I had ordered that instead. :(
Maybe we just didn't order the right things...but I thought there was nothing that special about this place... -

We were coming back from Sonoma and being sneaky driving the Frontage Road. The g/f was having a hunger attack so we stopped here seeing a decent crowd out front.
I got a Reuben with Onion Rings and she got a Shrimp Salad Sando and Fries. Fries were limp. Onion Rings were semi-decent, but some were really burnt. Neither of us finished our sandwiches despite our hunger when we arrived.
4 star average? Are you serious? Maybe we got the bad cook or ordered poorly.Listed in: Reubens! (and other hot…

This is one of those places that make the Bay so special. It's basically a convenience store and then some.
Doesn't look like much as you drive up to it. It's pretty much a shack with a dirt lot for parking. Inside though, you'll find your typical 7-11/AM PM snacks, but what makes it special is that instead of hot dogs and hamburgers, they have a seafood deli! And smoothie counter!
My last visit to the Bay ended in me not getting Clam Chowder in a Sourdough Bowl and this time I had to make sure I got one. It's so awesome that this place has a self serve one, so you can fill your bowl with all the good stuff that rests at the bottom of the pot. The chowder itself was a tad salty which was fine with me because it gave it more of a authentic flavor to it. The clams were really tender and since I was able to help myself, I got a lot of them. The bowl was fresh, too. It was big enough to give yourself a decent portion of soup and too big to eat it all. I hope the hobo that was sitting near me picked it out of the trash to eat because I hate wasting food.
My brother ordered the Fish and Chips. Not my style of F&C. Wasn't pub style with big slabs of cod. It was flat filets with thick batter. The fries were good.
I wish Southern California would have a place like this! -

This place is sooooo cute, it kind of reminds me of the ramshackle clam bars you'll encounter in the Hamptons. My boyfriend and I were on our way to the Berkeley Marina on our bikes and decided to stop for some refreshments. The line was pretty packed for the deli, but I am excited to come back and try the food.

I will give this place stars just because it's there, when you need a Nantucket Nectar and a bag of Cheetos (and at some point, don't we all?).
But quality-wise this place is a shit-hole:
The sandwich-maker barks out orders at full blast over tinny speakers;
They play shitty Top 40 radio, again, at full blast;
They attract a low class of clientele (young men with their pants around their asses, un-neutered pit bulls in tow, and yes this is around little kids, too!);
The prices are shocking;
And instead of offering customers a clean restroom they have a portable toilet out back that reminds me of the outhouse scene in "Slumdog Millionaire."Listed in: Bathrooms: Yes, they matter.

So easy to plop off Frontage and University and grab some soup to go.... tried both the chowder (new england) and their gumbo... $4 for small cup and was it $5.5 for larger size? comes with oyster crackers..
the place has a few nice offerings: the outdoor breeze, first off. then there are fruit juices, fried seafood station, and a sandwich counter. some to-go snacks (nuts, cellophane wrapped cake and bread slices, chips)...
Wish didn't risk busting a tire to park for the brief in/out that I usually do.. the dirt and the large dips, driver beware. Lots of pedestrians, runners, and bikers about. Just outside of the Berkeley marina -

great place for date... nice trails by the water nearby =) I love the marina!!! -

San Francisco, CA
At first glance, this little food shack-cum-corner store fruit stand seems more a lonely roadside attraction on a unpaved road than a bustling, sun-dappled seafood destination on the water. They peddle everything form fish and chips to gorgeous produce and Boont's 22ozs.
Keep your beer in a paper bag, plop down on the red picnic tables alongside I-80 and stuff for face with fried sea bounty goodness. Hop on nearby Bay Trail and work it off while gazing into the rippling ocean. No wonder this place is an East Bay institution!Listed in: East Bay Patios, Bay Area Views, Picnic Fixins, East Bay Cheap Eats, Bike friendly!

Review from Toni M.
That's 3 1/2. There's something to be said for sitting at a picnic table w/ the sun on your back watching cars and bicycles pass. This place has been here for years. It's virtually a Berkeley waterfront institution. I'm not sure what was here before, but there are old fruit trees and berry bushes delineating the eating area alongside the University Avenue extension west of I-80. They're struggling along on their own, having been pretty much untended for years from the looks of them, but they're still gamely putting out fruit. It's quite a truck stop, w/ several semis parked in their unpaved lot. It's a great place on a warm day.
Alan and I both ordered calamari burgers and we shared an order of fries. The calamari came on a nice, sturdy roll. It was too much bread so I tore off pieces and tossed them to the birds which congregate there waiting for scraps. The calamari was good, although they use more mayo than I would and Miz Tam would have been totally grossed out. The fries were good and crisp and salted just enough. What we couldn't finish went to the birds as well. -

OMG!!!!! Best crab I've ever had in my life!!! Garlic-y buttery goodness!!! I cannot even tell you how delicious this crab was!!!!
I also got the clam chowder in a bread bowl, also really good-but did I mention the crab?? I did? Just checking!!
I also ordered the calamari and fries, I'm gonna knock one star off for that, fries were ok-calamari was super bland.
Basically, go for the crab!!! -

I'm reviewing this place even though I've never eaten the food here. They have a lot of it, and it doesn't look half bad. Now that Yelp has this groovy new update feature, I'll pig out and report back to you on another day.
For now, I'm giving Sea Breeze 3.5 stars because its a full service market midway on the Bay Trail between Emeryville, where I started walking, and my destination of El Cerrito. I really needed my diet mountain dew by the time I got there. I really needed their port-a-potty too. I noticed they have every soda pop, sports drink and antioxidant loaded, vitamin infused, chi chi water drink known to man. And beer, lots and lots of beer.
Let's review: Delapidated shack, holding large quantities of beer, sodas, snacks, sandwiches, hot food, and coffee in all of its starbuckian forms. Picnic tables, where you can hang out alongside the trail on the bay, and gaze over the water at the lovely Emerald City. Nice. If the food is good, this puppy's going up to five stars.
I probably don't have to tell you this, but don't use the little blue house unless you really have to. It is not as bad as the ones in India. That's all I can say for it. And that's not good. -

I came here last Sunday to try out the calamari and chips. For $10 dollars i got basket of frys and tiny little pieces of calamari. The frys were good but the calamari was just average. They were crispy but they didn't have much taste to them. Even the cocktail and tartar sauce didn't help. I guess i have to go to fisher mans wharf to get some good calamari.
I really liked how the place is setup, alot of benches with umbrellas outside. Real nice for a nice hot and sunny day. The place itself looks like a shack on a side of the road because it is a shack on the side of the road. Everything is moderately priced, they have a very nice variety of drinks. They even had my favorite Orangina which is very hard to find these days. Only a few different stores and markets have them anymore.
Service here is OK, the cooks could be more friendly but hey its a shack. The place looks like they have a good menu with alot of different seafood selection. They also have sandwiches, and serve yourself clam chowder. And last they do have crab but for $20 dollars a crab i rather go buy some fresh crab and boil it myself.
3 Stars for Sea Breeze Market & Deli in Berkeley -

They sell beer....but you can't drink it on the premises. It's such a cruel joke when you're eating fried food and sitting outside on a nice sunny day.

The Sea Breeze is the perfect spot to stop and grab some fish n' chips on your way to either Adventure Playground (yipppppeeeee!!!) or for heading down to Cesar Chavez Park and walking the pooch.
I like the fish and chips tho' I do pay the price later (not for theirs specifically, just the whole grease/fried food thing) but I am a sucker for fish n' chips and happily forget all previous consequences. They are friendly, make fresh squeezed juice and smoothies, and the coffee isn't bad.
Seating outside on a sunny warm day feels like the ultimate "platying hooky" kind of afternoon. I like all the birds that land on the tables, and the whole funky slightly seedy scene. A good spot for lunch. If you go very early in the morning, chances are good you'll see fishermen on their way out which makes things seem muy authentico. The clam chowder is tasty, and the potato salad is plain, but hits the spot.
I am also a sucker for counter help who think nothing of calling me "Hon" or "Darlin'"...good spot! -

I give this place 5 stars (and I don't dole that score out easily) for a few reasons:
-Picnicking by the frontage road on a warm and sunny day makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. There's the subtle hint of a marina nearby....and joggers all healthy and shit....sigh. (if it's not a nice day then get take-out.)
-You can order things like an oyster or calamari burger. How many places offer that?!
-You can get your typical deli shopping done as well- oh look! I need some snack-ums and gum for later...and here's my tasty vitamin water...Ah, screw it, I'm treating myself to a beer.....
-Excellent place for picnic provisions before exploring the nearby and ever-amazing Albany Bulb. (another review for another time.)
-And lastly, they have the BEST GODDAMN GARDEN BURGER I HAVE EVER HAD. I shit you not. I can't even order the seafare anymore, even though I feel like I should with a name like Sea Breeze....and if you're not a mayo fan like me, just make sure to ask for it without. -

Everyone deserves to have a perfect day before they die, don't ya think? Well, my perfect day happened to be on my birthday and involved a delicious turkey sandwich from Sea Breeze Market & Deli. I felt bad for not ordering something from the "sea", but I had my heart set on a turkey sandwich before I knew where my boyfriend was taking me.
Delicious turkey sandwich + unpretentious deli shack + awesome view (if you are willing to climb through the bushes and sit on a log) = a dope and memorable start to a Happy Birthday. -

On a nice day, this is the place to be. Sit outside with your fish & chips/sandwich/burger/soup/whatever and enjoy a nice cold soda/beer/water/whatever. Don't worry about those signs on the tables about alcohol consumption though. Seriously, the fish & chips are pretty good. The coating is the bread crumb type, not pure batter. I prefer batter, but this is still good. The tartar sauce is bland, I recommend using the malt vinegar. The fries are crispy and good. The sandwiches are average. The fish burger type stuff usually is good.
They have random stuff in their deli case too, but I've never tried it so let me know if you do. Also haven't tried the garlic crab, but I will be back to try the crab.Listed in: Best Part of Work - Lunch, Chowdah!

Otherwise known as the Truck Stop by my co-workers, Sea Breeze Market & Deli, is a wonderful and unique lunch spot for any Emeryville, Berkeley, Oakland, East Bay working stiff with $10 and an appetite for "crustacean". Besides various presentations of seafood (mostly fried), they offer the odd burger and a wide selection of beer.
I highly recommend you pee before going, as the restroom situation is "porta-a-pottyingly" disgusting. Is that a word? Screw it. That is what happens when I try to be "useful". 4 stars. -

Yum-yum! If you want a great fried seafood lunch with absolutely zero ounces of pretense then you need to come to Sea Breeze to eat lunch!
This place looks like a shack and does not inspire confidence from the outside, but once you get to the seafood counter all your doubts will disappear... They got kickass calamari and they have (had? I didn't see it last time we were here) some way tasty Macaroni & Cheese as well. The soups they serve can be good, and they can be just ok... it's not as reliable of a lunch.
Still, for the cheap price, this is a wonderful place to come and have lunch, especially in March or April when Spring is in the air: just eat your lunch and stare at the Bay... simply wonderful. -

GORGEOUS and sunny Sunday afternoon... we finally made our way to Sea Breeze.
~ Clam Chowder bread bowl is self-serve so you can fill your bread bowl to the brim! $6 for a button-popping bowl of hot soup, mmm! (Could be chunkier in my opinion...potatoes and clams) I couldn't finish mine even with help from my bf.
~ Fried trout burger for my bf. ($9~) He liked it but I wasn't a fan. I'm not a big fan of fish sandwiches/burgers (... pls don't judge) By the second half, he said it tasted really dry...even with the extra mayo he slabbed on.
Wish I got french fries... they looked dericious.
Will def have to come back and try the whole crab! :) :) :) ($20?) -
Review from Dana C.
After a very LONG day of beer pong at Berkeley Marina, my friends and I ventured to the Sea Breeze Deli for some much needed food.
I'll admit I had trouble finding the place (not because of the excessive drinking) because I was looking for an actual restaurant and this place seemed to be more of a converted shipping container.
Nonetheless, we all placed our orders with confidence. I had the crab salad sandwich while my buddies opted for the calamari and fries, crab bisque and sweet potato fries. All of it was goo-oo-ood!
Two small things: my sandwich was $10 which I think is really pricey, and the bathrooms... for shame, port-o-potties (the last thing I want to smell on a warm day next to a seafood restaurant). -

Berkeley, CA
On a nice sunny day with not too much wind, this is a nice place to go to hang out and watch the Interstate 80 frontage road traffic crawl by. The seafood sandwiches are your typical seaside hut variety. They have a selection of fish-and-chips, clams, scallops, etc. all deep-fried to your cardio-vascular delight.
Getting there, it's create-a-space time in the parking lot. Just park where you don't think a trailer truck will back into you or run you over. Order your food, pick a drink out of the fridge, and maybe a bag of chips. Wait, get entree, pay, sit. Use lots of ketchup, skip the cole slaw. Stare into space like you mean it, finish your meal, and leave.Listed in: Find me here at lunch...

It's the only food establishment in its location, and there isn't much to look at from an outsider's point of view; nevertheless, I loved how it was a mini grocery store, drink stand and a deli, all in one. It has everything you could possible need to nosh your belly!
Their menu includes a vast amount of options. Ranging from sandwiches to sea food (calamari, crab, etc.) entrees. The portions are gargantuan! My avocado cheese burger (a bit over $7) was, AT LEAST, 8 inches in diameter. I kid you not! Mmmm, it was one of the best avocado burgers I've ever had =)
All in all, Sea Breeze is a great "quick bite" stop for BIG appetites.
