Their coconut gelato made me take a step back. It's fresh and fruity, with a smooth texture, the perfect treat for a hot (or even lukewarm) day. Friendly service is just icing on the cake. Or gelato.

Screme has a truck in the nearby Verde Square that stocks typical breakfast offerings every morning; if only their gelato was prepped that early, I'd be a happy camper!

The worst gelato I've ever had in my life- if you can even call it gelato. Gelato is supposed to be smooth and soft, but this was more ice cream texture minus the creaminess. Sampled the pina colada, and it was so grainy and mehh. I settled on ferrero rocher, and the flavoring was just okay... I couldn't get over the texture.

Not worth the $5 for a small

I can't believe this place has a 4 star rating!

I came across this truck on a hot summer day and was intrigued. I love gelato and having tried lots of gelato places around the city, and in Europe, consider myself rather a connoisseur of the ice cream delicacy. Plus, nothing beats the heat like a good cup of cold ice cream.

The truck is cute and has a nice design. However, it is just a truck in a park... I mean your not eating ice cream in a charming cafe in the piazza here...however, they do charge "charming cafe in the piazza" prices, 5$ for a small cup of gelato. Yes, they give samples, but I have seriously never been to a gelato place in my life that didn't give free samples.

However, I am more than willing to pay the price for an amazing cup of gelato. I had the coconut gelato. It was good, but nothing special. The gelato was very average and disappointing. While, the staff was very friendly and the location is conveniently located near the subway for those on the go. There are definitely way better gelato places in the city. I recommend saving your 5 dollars and heading elsewhere.

If gelato's going to cost me $7 for two scoops then it should taste like gelato. I mean if there's GELATO in the name then that's what I SHOULD BE GETTING?!  I'm shocked New Yorkers are rating this 4 stars. This tasted like ice cream. To a die hard gelato fan, this is a just sad. Weak.

WOAH, what a place. The best gelato I had - coconut and mint chip. Also had a great panna cotta flavor. They also do cooky junk food flavors like Chips Ahoy, Cap'n Crunch, etc.

A bit pricey ($5 for a small, $7 for a medium) but you can tell it's top ingredients and well worth it.

I decided to try this place based on the great reviews from yelp. After trying 5 different flavors, and finding that none of them had any flavor, I finally settled on the strawberry. Not only did this ice cream not have any flavor, the cone was stale and it cost 5 dollars! I throw most of it away. What a rip off!

I screme, you screme, we all screme for ice cream!

    Except.....it's gelato!

I had the Ferraro Rocher.  Yum!   I was with about 5 people, and we all tried a different flavor, so I got a lick of each one.  The chocolate covered raspberry is quite delicious, as is everything else.

The people who work there are so nice, and they let us sample just about every flavor.  We were looking all over for ice cream, and this place was opened late (it was after 11, I think when we got there).

They also rotate in a Guinness flavor.  Since this is my favorite beer, I am wondering how it will translate to Gelato.  I'll be back to give that a try.

Employees and gelato here are cloying.

Many of the flavors are silly and gimmicky (e.g., Chocolate/Brownie/Whiskey and Cinnamon Toast Crunch), and the ones that seem like they might be good are too sweet for my tastes.

It's not bad, but you're better off going to Grom up the street.

Last summer, we pulled over in our car on our way home from a day of too much food crapulence downtown to try Sceme. The gelato was better than that in LV at Cafe Gelato which I loved and, prior to last week, used to call my standard for comparison. Sceme was more $ but well worth it and the kids working there were super nice. :))) It's a little hole in the wall even on foot, but miss it and you will be missing some tasty frozen yum yums!

The original video version of this song is the first video I ever saw on MTV, a million years ago! :)))

There was no pistachio. REALLY? NO PISTACHIO GELATO?! Fine. I'll deal with it.

First off it is SUPER DUPER EXPENSIVE.

This place is TINY as all heck in here. Claustrophobic!

I got a to-go container that is $25 for 4 flavors. wow. DUDE!

The gelato was only okay to me. Okay is not okay at $25!

I prefer L'Arte Del Gelato in the West Village.

Oh lovely loveliness of cream.  As good and creative as the gelatos are (like chocolate brownie, biscotti), this gets a 3.5 star rating.  The prices are outrageous.  I guess someone has to pay the exorbitant rent in the closet  they dish this stuff out in.  I live around the corner from here, but I have to tell you, I don't go out of my way or visit all that often.

It's scientifically proven that when a girl has a bad day, that gelato will rectify everything and that calories are negligible.  In addition to these magical properties, the "pick-me-up" experience was exponentially improved when the chipper employees at Screme did not ask, but implored me to try each flavor before making a decision.  They just kept handing me spoons, and I just kept tasting.  I came craving something chocolate, but 10 sample spoons later, became interested in the Madagascar Vanilla (some of the best vanilla I've tried) and sorbet.

At this point, my Spain withdrawals were kicking in and I was reminiscing of nocilla gelato.  Fortunately, Screme has Nutella Brownie and Nutella Crunch, both of which were close enough to whet my craving.  And when my resourceful employee combined Nutella Brownie and raspberry sorbet?  Divine!  But because I could only order one flavor in a small cup, I had quite the dilemma.  The ever-resourceful employee chimed in with the solution: to give me a cup of Nutella Brownie and top it off with a dollop of raspberry sorbet.  Amazing!  And she asked one last question: "Do you just like or LOVE brownies?"  And that's how I ended up with countless chewy little brownies in a $5 cup of gelato.

Between the incredible and eager-to-please customer service and the unique flavors of gelato, I am a fan of Screme.  Be sure to follow them on Twitter: @ScremeGelato to know which flavors await you before you visit.

Yes it's $9 for 3 scoops in a small container that was sold as a "large". Pricey? I'd say so.  But the gelato is smooth, tasty and sooo flavorful! We got the strawberry, mango, and nutella and were happy clams as we devoured it while swinging on the slide-y bench outside.

flavor of the gelato was good, but i guess the guy doesn't get to close the door where the gelato sits, so it was a bit melty.

ordered blood orange and pistachio. he scooped so quickly and it was dripping all over my cup, which made it messy. but i love gelato so i devoured it quickly. great place to go if its close by.

Ohhh Screme...I don't know if this is an homage to Neve Campbell, or just your fancy way of saying "I screme" for ice cream. Except if you pronounce it the fancy way it doesn't rhyme. So the jokes on you either way.

The 3 stars is not for the flavor. Screme has a promising amount of interesting flavors AND they've put their own childhood twist on certain choices which I certainly appreciate. The Butterfinger and Toffee Nut Nutella were my picks and I enjoyed them very much. It was not life changing, but it was way better than a lot of other Gelato places in NYC.

The price, however, for two scoops of plain gelato $7.00. Don't you think that's a little outlandish, Screme? Yesterday I had a 5 scoop monstrosity pecan pie sundae for $8. That to me makes sense. The portions at Screme are too small to be that expensive. And while I still gladly ate my gelato, I'd rather go to a parlour where I can get a big ass sundae with toppings for the same price.

I've been to both locations. They're both clean, the staff is helpful in giving you samples. However, at the Lincoln Center location, I'd love for them to expand their seating, which means, expand their restaurant. Times square is bigger...but it's also a location nightmare for true New Yorkers.

So listen, Screme. You'll be a gelato contender when I'm on a date- I'll leave the hefty bill to that lucky person's wallet.

When the girls at Screme saw my camera and discovered I've been writing about the best ice cream in the city, they offered me free samples of every single flavor in the shop. It seemed a little over the top, but from what I've read, these girls are always enthusiastic and generous with the samples.

And while I sensed I was being buttered up to write a good review, I do genuinely feel these young employees love their job and fully believe in their product. Where the owners of Screme got such dedicated and loyal employees, I have no idea. When I visited Best Buy down the street, I received the complete opposite experience.

The good news is, I don't have to agonize over whether I should give them a good review just because I got free samples. The gelato is actually really good. Even after spending close to five bucks for the small portion, I still can recommend their ice cream! It's worth the expensive price tag.

The samples came at me fast and furiously. I started with Chocolate Brownie Whiskey, which was the most unique flavor they offered. It was silky and smooth, but I didn't get a strong liquor flavor. I moved on to Butter Cookie (rich buttery goodness - I could taste the dough), Caramel Brownie (a bit sweet for me), the Blood Orange Sorbet (tart and refreshing), and on and on from there.

I finally settled on the Nutella Chip (which the girl was amazed was the only one I didn't sample). This is a classic gelato flavor and Screme got it just right. It wasn't too sweet, but it was creamy and thick and rich. There was a lot going on, but there wasn't too much milkfat that it would coat my mouth. This is an important quality of gelato.

I also liked the chocolate slivers that were mixed throughout. They were very thin bits that reminded me of a hard chocolate dip. The only thing this dish could have used was something crunchy and it would have been absolutely perfect.

The location has its issues: it's tiny (literally just a storefront) and the prices are steep ($5 for just a single!). But the ice cream is great, the staff is genuinely sweet, and you might just get a handful of free samples. Even if you're not writing a blog on the best ice cream in the city.

I had a Living Social 50% off coupon.  I'm glad I did...because they're kinda pricey...but even if I had paid full price?  It would've been worth the dinero!

Next time I'll try the midtown shop in hopes that it's larger . The UWS shop is super cute...but just not capable of handling more than two customers at a time.

But talk about service!  In front of me was a MONSTER foreign family with a very absent father, a rather pregnant mother yelling at the manager, and two toddlers pounding on the display case while screeching at the top of their lungs (and I'm saying this as a lover of children).  But the manager handled this scenario BRILLIANTLY!  He managed to quell the woman while sticking to his store's needs, politely smiling the entire time and leaving his customers and staff happy. BRAVO!

They also encourage you to sample every flavor to make sure you choose the perfect one for you.  And not only was my coupon transaction hassle-less...but the manager asked for my email to send me more special offers!

They're also serving up some of the best gelato in the states!  I sampled fig & tequila, cornbread, madagascar vanilla, biscotti, snickers, and gelato sundae.  I usually like a much larger selection to choose from, but in the end I was glad to not have to rack my brain over more decisions!

The Gelato Sundae flavor was average.  But the others BLEW ME AWAY!!!  I went home with a 2-flavor container of fig & tequila and cornbread...and ordered a small madagascar vanilla to eat on the way home.  I spent $11 with my coupon...and, since the service was so impeccable, I threw in a buck for tip.

This will be a RARE treat for RATHER special ocassions due to the price.  But this is a good thing.  If they were reasonably priced, I'd be there every other day!

Interesting flavors.  They say that have 2000 flavors so they keep rotating them in and out.  We tried 3 flavors and all were pretty good.  Very rich and creamy as gelato should be.  If variety is your thing, this place is for you.  It is pretty expensive.  $5 for small cup with one flavor and $7 for the two flavor size up.

I would give it four stars but some of the flavors were over frozen ( abit hard and chewy) while others were underfrozen and almost soupy.  For the prices being paid, I would expect even textures with all flavors.  Gelato should be firm but spreadable without breaking (like cream).

so this place loses some points on texture.  I would love to give it 3.5 stars because it is better than OK, but I cannot give 4 stars based off of this experience.

Staff are highly friendly...They will make sure you get to taste as many samples you can until you find the ideal flavor you desire.
They deserved my five dollar tip, which that's how much the smallest cup costs.

Rich flavor, and I have endulged in several ones. You got to try it yourself to be the judge, but I recommend this place.

The place is tiny and you might as well sit down outside, in the middle of the road where there are seats in the mid division.
Other than that, I feel welcome here always and I am now a loyal customer.

On a positive note, they finally have their refrigeration problems sorted out! The texture is better and the ice cream doesn't melt all over your hands. What still concerns me is that I couldn't be sure whether I was eating ice cream or gelato.

When it comes to flavors I don't believe that they are able to handle alcohol too well (overpowers other flavors), for while the Mojito was bitter, the Chocolate Toffee was pretty good. Pistachio fell somewhere in the middle of the spectrum, but well behind the versions at Grom, and L' arte del Gelato.

The reason I bring up Grom is that at $ 7 for two scoops, they are competing on price with Grom. While I do concede that they fill the cup, to the extent that the cup runneth over (literally), nevertheless I don't leave Screme screaming with ecstasy!

The only time I've come close to screaming is when the (well intentioned) servers keep offering me a random flavor to try. No, I do not like Kiwi. Can I not simply choose the flavor I want without it being forced on me? So, step back, good people!

Still, Screme has taken a step or two forward since its disastrous beginning. Kudos!

Great flavors, and the gelato is a perfect fix.  I love the outdoor bar - it's great for after a dinner date.  There's chairs outside too so you can just chill outside after you've had some gelato.

    Free samples!

They also have sorbet flavors that are lower in calorie, and some that are lower in fat as well, so there's something here for everyone!

It IS kind of pricey though at $5 for the 1 scoop (the small size)

But seriously.  This is like authentic Italian gelato.

And in case you weren't fully convinced, the cheery girls behind the counter will offer you a sample of EVERY single flavor, if you so fancy.  And that will pretty much prove how deliciously amazing this gelato really is.

I highly suggest the hazelnut combined with the raspberry sorbet.  It absolutely is an orgasm in your mouth.  Trust.

I have tried a lot of chocolate flavored ice creams and Gelato and not until I tried the Brownie, Chocolate and whiskey Gelato at this place my extreme thirst for chocolate was satisfied. I LOVE their brownie, chocolate and whiskey flavor, it is my favorite but that does not mean that I do not like their other flavors. They are all great and interesting and Cones (Bleeker street) has finally gotten their competition.

The only thing I do not like about Scream is their prices. Yes it is amazing but it is still too expensive.

But do not miss out on their flavors because of the price they gladly offer tastings of their delicious flavors and the flavors are so intense that just a tasting gives you a nice lingering flavor for an hour thereafter.

This is the place to go this summer!

TINY storefront with the friendliest staff (they practically force you to try several flavors before you make your choice) and a dazzling, ever changing array of flavors.  I do wish they'd post their daily flavors online because there are occasions where nothing really speaks to me.  But generally speaking, fantastic gelato with a lot more thought into each variety than the Groms out there.  Personal favorites include Chocolate Peanut Butter, Snickers, Ferrero Rocher, etc.

Now's the time to go while the entrance is obscured by scaffolding.  I'm dreading next summer when (I assume) the scaffolding comes down and the lines will make it a lot less appealing than the easy drop in and try service of these past few months.

I walked by this place dozens of times as I live in the 'hood; but never went in until recently. I was immediately greeted by a smiling gelato-girl asking me if I'd like a sample of cookies & cream. Why yes, I'd love to try it!

They had 8 or 10 selections, but no classics like vanilla or chocolate (they did have a milk chocolate chocolate chip which was okay). The girl kept offering me samples, but I politely declined because I didn't want to seem like a pig. I guess that is their m.o. though so next time I will accept!

Finally settled on a "to-go" container of half coconut gelato and half cookies & cream, although I seriously considered the Ferraro Rocher. It is super expensive -- $16 for the smallest to go, which was maybe 1 pint? I also didn't like that the "to-go" container is made out of styrofoam. Not very environmentaly friendly, but I suppose that's the only way to keep it cold enough.

Not as good as the gelato I remember from Italy, but still yummy.

Even though I've had better, the bits of real biscotti were better than at its counterparts. Unfortunately, the fifth star is withheld because servings are frustratingly small, for $5 for an even smaller-than-par-for-the-course cup. Furthermore, despite being double-scoops, only one flavor is allowed, which I found quite peculiar.

I was just here yesterday for the first time. tiny place, just enough room to order, pay, and get your ice cream and leave. the employees are really friendly and helpful, but that's too expect from a new place ;). they allow sampling (and encourage it), so sample away!.  I tried the the "Chocolate whiskey" - a bit too bitter for my liking, "Pistachio" - yummy and you can taste the real pistachio pieces, "Milk chocolate" nice and creamy and not as overpowering as the "Chocolate Whiskey"

I  ended up getting the vanilla one with brownie and other stuff mixed in -forgot the name of it.. but it was perfect. Not to sweet, but very creamy.

Even though they consider  their product to be "Gelato" I would have to highly disagree. It's very much ice cream. but really creamy ice cream. def. far better than your local Baskin Robbins.

I'm almost ashamed to admit how many different flavors I've tried. Mainly due to the fact that they're so incredibly generous with giving-out samples, but also because every once in awhile I try something that is so awesome I keep coming back to try pretty much everything. Really, not every selection is great, quite a few of them are just okay, but the ones which are winners are stunning. For example the Salted Toffee Caramel Crunch, or the Raspberry Cheese Cake. It's a little expensive, overall, but definitely worth it when you make the right selection(s).

I heard about this place through Living Social, from which I'd purchased a discount coupon to use here.  Well, the first time I walked in, I wasn't heading straight home, and couldn't go through enough gelato to use the coupon .... but just HAD to try the stuff.

    OMG.  Heaven in my mouth!!

Some of the flavors do change over on a daily basis, I understand, with others there regularly.  The hazelnut was fabulous, and I found it there when I managed to get back to use the coupon and take my lovely container of gelato home to my freezer.  I've been savoring it - it's very rich and takes very little to satisfy the craving.

I feel bad for Stone Cold Creamery, just a few blocks away.....

Incredibly delicious. Yes it is small space wise, but the flavors make up for it. They have new ones every day, which makes it exciting to pass every night coming from class. The fact that they encourage you to try the flavors too is awesome. You don't have to feel guilty if you don't end up buying anything, but the friendly attitudes and smiles from the employees always get me in the end. I buy their $7 dish which allows me to get two delicious flavors. Can never have too much gelato, and sorbet!

Taste away my friends, taste away and enjoy!!

I'm in love with Screme. Every time I walk on Broadway, I'm excited just to walk BY it - because I'm usually penniless.

I remember my first experience with this gelato shop was with a free sample - Ferrero Rocher gelato. OH. MY. GOSH. upon first bite, I texted my friend saying we HAD to come to this place.

We finally came, and even after we ordered already, the guy still insisted that we try virtually every single flavor. So he scooped, he scooped, and he scooped some more. They were all SOOOOOOOO heavenly crunchy, yet soft, and sweet, yet subtle.. I'm going back!

I'd recommend the Ferrero Rocher... =)

Headed in here on a hot day...craving something cool and refreshing to cool me down. It's a small place that has no chairs or tables so you just enter, order and then head on out.

I ordered a small ($5) lime (?) gelato which was very tart. Originally, I liked it when I tasted a sample and even half way, still enjoyed the puckerness of the gelato. But as I got to more than half done, my tongue and mouth was feeling more sour and couldn't really take it anymore.

Maybe next time I'll get more of a rich flavor...
